Where are you? Are you always like this? I have questions for you. Must you always look for trouble? Whats your real name? . . . .

I don't see this as trouble. Certainly, nothing I'm doing should get anyone on the wrong side of the law. I like to challange people preconceptions or sometimes state things I think are wrong or that I disagree with. There are some subjects which I find interesting and can have lengthy discussions with someone about them even though we agree. However, there are few such topics on nairaland (not that this is a bad thing) [not that there are few topics with which I agree, just few which I find it interesting to continue to discuss my agreement with other people], so I choose to participate in topics of which I disagree with the main or which would challenge people. Those are more interesting to me. I'm not offended by people disagreeing with me. It doesn't hurt my feelings. I like when people can present good (lengthy if need be) arguments against my position. I suppose most people when faced with something like that feel like they are being attacked. As for me, it makes me feel that someone respects me (or my opinion) enough to spend the time to try to educate me (however misguided on their part - haha) that i'm wrong. So, I don't see it as trouble, I see it as a nice discussion.

So, no, i'm not looking for trouble - I especially don't expect to find it in a religious forum. I'm sorry if my disagreement bothers people. . .but look on the bright side, I'm so busy lately, i'm barely here to cause "trouble". So, indulge me in these few moments that I get to engage my fellow nigerians.

Apple's high prices for their machines does not affect the prices of other machines. Their high prices don't follow the price trends of other machines. Apple, in order to sustain their profitabiity, not to maintain false image, must charge a premium for their machines. I think though, they've started to realize that while they were able to gain a few hardcore users, most of the world sees through their bs. Now, they startoff by providing intel processor in their machines, RELEASE software that allows you to boot windows on it (even though for months and years before hand, Apple repeated said they will NEVER allow such a thing to occur).

We are hearing the death knell of this company. When they go under, the average price of a dell won't skyrocked just because apple doesn't exist. What may happen is that someone, Dell, Sharp, Gateway, Sony will buy the Apple name, and create ridiculously priced laptops to sell to the remaining people who think that paying $1000 more for your machine than other people confers upon you some sort of status.

well, i think why may be due to financial security. if you've experienced "poverty" or anything close then you might not really blame such parents 'because they think they're looking out for their children b doing so. well i'm like rich or anything like that but comfortable to a certain degree. My ex is from a not too well off home, her mom raised them on frying of akara and stuff, so she kind of promised she wasn't going to be in the same situation. By that she kind of pressured me out of the relationship, if you understand me

I don't think financial security would make a poor person marry someone else who is poor. Neither does financial security come into play if you are rich and plan on marrying someone else who is rich.

Ahh, here is an interesting question. The problem here is that you are assuming that all churches are supposed to survive. I don't think that God mandated that once any person decided to start a church, it MUST be kept alive through tithe and offering, or kept alive at all. Not all churches survive beyond a few years - this should not be a bad thing, and certainly, cannot just be attributed to tithing or a lack thereof.

There is more evidence to the argument that God created hell.

According to the bible, God created all things and through him, all things which exist were made. If thats not enough for you. . . I don't know what is, but lets go on.

According to the bible, God cast satan out of heaven into hell. This implies that hell already existed. Since before satan's rebellion, there were no other beings to cast into hell or angels to create hell as a dwelling place, God MUST have created hell beforehand.

but i feel that givin one out of ten to God who gave you the 10 is not too much, most especially when you have the rest 9 to your pockets.

For a single person, at least 30% of your money goes to the government, 20% of your money goes to paying your housing and utility costs, 10% goes to food and transporation. This leaves you with about 40% of your money remainiing. Assuming you (wisely) decide to save (at least) 10% (for YOUR future retirement when you will earn $0), that leaves 30%. For people without college loans whose cost of living does not compare to their income, this may be enough to pay out 10% of your income in tithes.

However, depending on your job, you may have to pay 30-40% of your income going towards paying for housing and utility, and 15% for transportation and food. Again, if you mangae to save 10%, you'd only have 5% of your income left.

Throw in having children or debt, even if you have a great job, you could still have little left at the end of the day.

If people claimed that you only pay tithes from the amount you have LEFT after taking care of the NEEDS of yourself and your family, I may not rail so hard against the idea, even though I fundamentally disagree with the actual argument, we are NOT required to pay tithes, it is just a nice habit.

Perhaps that is why she is still your girlfriend. I did not know it was a requirement that a girlfriend "love" her boyfriend.

I prefer windows. Everyday, I see people struggling with linux, this that or the other is not supported. . .

Or, there is no stable build for PHP in Debian and arguments back and forth as to using debian over ubuntu or other crap.

I'll stick with windows. All my devices work. The problems I have are rare. If someone develops something new, I don't have to wait, hope, or develop the drivers myself.

In every other regard, windows is just as user friendly or friendless as linux. The stress levels of the system admins in my dept (windows) and the cs dept (linux) seem to be the same. Actually, our sys admin never seems stressed out at all.

People claim that linux offers the out of the box experience - everything up and running within 30 minutes, no need to install other third party apps AFTER installing the OS. Well, you can do it with windows. In fact. . .I experienced it a few weeks ago when I got a new machine. Connected it to the network and went to the Sys admin. He reimaged the machine and within 30 minutes, I had everything, XP, antivirus, office, matlab, and tons of other software necessary in my work - not to mention all drivers installed, etc.

In my experience, the difference is a matter of taste and ideology, not functionality or even cost. Though linux is technically "free" for those who see huge costs from licensing and supporting systems - ie major companies and universities - studies (as well as company sys admins) have repeatedly shown that linux costs about the same as windows.

To the regular consumer, almost every machine you buy comes preloaded with windows. It's built into the price of your machine. . . so, you don't notice it as a line item when acquiring your new machine. Assuming you only operate one machine at a time, even if you upgrade to a new one, you can migrate your licensed copy of windows.

The security argument is just as full of holes.

I would definitely suggest linux as an alternative if one cannot afford windows.

I've had my current . . . hard drive (with windows installed) for almost a year now. This hard drive migrates from laptop to laptop and I've never had to reinstall windows. I'd expect that I could do this with linux (assuming that the components could use the same drivers) and with a mac os, assuming i'm transferring the hard drive to an identical laptop. Windows is the only OS in my experience which can achieve seamless transfer from one machine to another one which is radically different.

somehow, this seems like a copy of something that exists somewhere else, and not your own personal problem.

if you don't feel like reading something, it doesn't mean that its too long and boring, it means that either you are not interested, you are too lazy, you don't feel like it, or some other reason, or combination of reasons. The world would be in a bad place if people didn't read things that were longer than that post.

That is so true. Somone tells me. . .often. . . that the things you say about yourself can bring either blessings or curses onto you. If you are treating someone or calling them (even in your mind) a dishonest spouse, even when there is no real evidence to make this judgement, you are on a dangerous path.

It is easy to misinterpret the actions of another person when you have projected negative. . . images onto them. For example, many people have been seriously injured or worse by reaching into their pockets or some other (normally) harmless motion by police (or some other person) who believed (erroneously) that said person was armed and dangerous.

I'm not saying the parents harass the child im saying the child would be harassed at school if people knew he had gay parents. Also I have been to three different private schools and know that the child would be likely to get payed out harshly at all of them. I went to school in the US. I and other kids were harassed because our parents (and us) were AFRICAN.

Perhaps we should ban all africans from having children or at least from leaving the continent so that their kids can have happy childhoods where they are harassed for other reasons?

@ dakmanzero please, and please, if you do not know about something please do not criticise it. I am sure you have not tried installing linux in the past three years.

I will repeat again, I have used windows from 3.1 up to XP. I have installed win ME, XP, 2000 professional, 2000 Advanced Server, 2003 on various computers in the past.

I have installed various flavours of Linux e.g Mepis, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Knoppix, Suse, Kanotix etc on various laptops over the past one year.

I have installed Mac OSX twice on an Imac.

WINDOWS
1. Install Windows OS
2.Install drivers for Network card,wireless card, printer, scanner,etc etc
3.Install Software such as MS Office, Firefox, Thunderbird
4.Install Anti-virus before connecting to interner.
5.Install plug-ins such as Java,Flash,Adobe acrobat etc

Time taken: Minimum 3 hours.

Can you use your computer while it is installing Windows: NO

Simply Mepis
1.Put in CD switch on to boot into Live CD mode
2.Install Mepis onto your computer

Over 2GB of software compressed into 700 MB CD image.
most neccessary software all included in install viz Open office V2.0, Firefox, THunderbird, Gaim etc
Plug ins installed along with Mepis: Flash, Java, Adobe acrobat etc
Drivers for all major printer hardware included. Printer,scanner,digital camera,network card,wireless card ALL work without installation of extra drivers.

Time taken to install: Maximum 30 minutes

During the installation, continue to browse the net or do whatever you want to on your computer.

Now, kindly tell me which you think is easier? Linux was difficult ages ago, but since last year when I started using Linux, I have been pleasantly impressed and as far as am concerned, it beats windoze hands down

Funny. . . a couple friends of mine were just installing linux on their machines the other day. This was the routine:

1) Download the package they wanted
2) Configure another machine to be a compile farm
3) Build source on their machines, send to compile farm
4) Compile farm builds objects/executable,etc and sends back to their machine

Total time: 4 days

Could they use their computer during this time - HECK NO.


I've had the same experience with windows that you've had with linux. After the initial install of windows on my thinkpad, I cloned my hard drive. Now, if I want to put windows on another machine, I just clone that copy to a new hard drive, and change the cd key.

Guess what, this process takes 35 minutes. It takes about 30 mins to clone the drive, 4 minutes to place the new hd in its machine and boot to windows, and one minute to change the cd key.

Just like you, if I have all the drivers, apps, software, and OS, already packaged on a CD (or in my case, hard drive) ready for install, the process takes under an hour.

Oh, and while I'm doing this, I can be surfing the net, playing games, etc, while the cloning runs in the background.
