I am so sorry, i think we should take it nice and slow. I am willing to help anyone who wants guidance but I really dont think whatsapp is necessary at this time. You really don't need more than pointers, suggestions and maybe a few recommendations. My interest lies in you being able to identify what is best for you and then taking ACTION. You may reach me via email and ask for whatever guidance you need as regards FMCG. I do have considerable experience in that sector and I can tell you it has huge untapped potential. As a matter of fact there is entry opportunity or anybody at different levels. Reach me via vikbiz2011@gmail.com Hasheem1hash: |
UndauntedYOCA:One of the best posts ever. Humble, Sincere and grateful posturing and yet with a subtle indication of the dignity and strength of the underlying personality. This is the stuff of which success is made of. It will be very difficult for this poster to derail. Please read and re-read the bolded for emphasis. Should you need any help or guidance (remotely of course) please dm me any time. |
kristen12:Do you live in a high density area? Adopt the emboldened and consider starting a from scratch and growing it tenaciously. Listen to advice but ignore all scoffers no matter how close. remain persistent while keeping your eyes to the goal and honestly if you even begin to give it serious consideration, helps will be placed on your path and before you know it you will be growing in leaps and bounds. Set a target to earn 1000 every day. then within two weeks move that to 2,000 daily and then grow it to 3000 daily within thre months. Believe me, there are simple models to adopt and ensure that this is attainable. If you think I could be helpful in providing some kind of guidance remotely then you may wish to dm me. I am very much at your service free of charge but only remotely and no physical meeting) Good luck but remember that you must take ACTION and do increase your energy levels. |
Lizzydavinci:Posterity will reveal to you the yet unfathomable reason why you had to go to school and get the very best results. Please note that there is a lot of emphasis that should be placed on the process of acquiring the degree. the results is important but equally of significance is the process and the effort that gets you there. |
Heineken:Your Moniker represents one of the fastest growing brands in the world. Already quit feeling sorry for yourself and face the reality of the times. Look around you and I am sure that if you concentrate you will definitely find something you can start small and do and before you know it you have become an entrepreneur. If you are in Lagos you may PM me. But just brace up and act. Do something to prove to yourself that you are a better you in 2019 than the previous years. |
Hasheem1hash:My suggestion is that you consider trading. I don't advise that you own a shop but consider the possibility of supplying shop owners what they want. identify what most of them do not have or a totally new product in the environment and introduce it to them. Mind you, the product may not necessarily be from a blue-chip company. It might be something that someone you know makes well that you procure and distribute. Many examples abound. |
Emceesaka:This is fallacious. I believe that in the next 20-30 years you will discover one or two benefits that will come to play a very significant role in your life thus nullifying this present situation. As corny as it may sound, please note that you must have made some social contacts while there in school and they can be very useful in the future. This is just the social angle. An illustration may suffice here. Twenty years ago, my village was expected to present a candidate for the house of reps following the rotational agreement in place. The village was unanimous in deciding that either a lawyer or a Political Science graduate would go. The only lawyer available within the preferred age bracket was already working with an Oil company hosted by our community. The only other option was a fresh Pol. Sc B.Sc (Ed) graduate who was teaching in the community school as a PTA teacher. Please think well before you commence wallowing in regret. Absolutely no knowledge or experience is lost. |
Wow!!!!! This I must say is one of the most impressive threads I have come across on Nairaland especially in the jobs section. Its very diverse nature in the first place is quite instructive. While we have a number of posters seeing it as a platform upon which the largest pity party for frustrated and unemployed graduates to congregate and blame everyone else but themselves for their current circumstances, it has also been a wonderful pedestal for a few graduates who have 'seen the light' to share their experience and thus encourage others. I will attempt a response at some of the posts. I hope my posturing will provide a fresh perspective drawing from my own experience which has been one struggle after the other and while I may not have arrived 'completely' I am quite grateful and expectant. |
Step two involves priming your market/territory in order to objectively ascertain the viability of the market, the relative strength of the purchasing power of the market constituents (your potential customers) and of course the relevance of the particular product to the Owerri resident. If you have resolved this I would then advise that you take out just 50,000.00 (1% of your capital) and conduct a trial run. You would thus be testing the waters by dipping in the tip of your toes first. If the market rejects the product then you would have lost only 1% of your capital. If the market welcomes the product then you need to order the next batch. At this point you could decide to invest up to 5% or even 10% of your capital to conduct a wider survey. All the sampling and surveys should not exceed two weeks. This is primarily because there are people just waiting in the wings for you to complete the surveys and they jump into investing in that business. So when you have decided to invest before the actual investment you must as a matter of expedience sit down with the Management and draw up a memorandum of understanding as regards sales of the product within that territory. I would suggest that if you are the first person to introduce the product then your best bet would be to ask for territorial exclusivity even if it is for a short while (of course this usually costs a whole lot of money but it is worth every dime you pay for it ultimately). |
1. I assume that you are a serious minded fellow (I believe you will be serious enough to take action on whatever you decide) 2. I also deduce that you are based in Owerri (correct me if I am wrong). 3. It is also appears evident that like me you are not interested in anything online business....at least for now. 4. I am not selling anything here but could recommend some products/companies......should you request for this (by pm only) Having stated the above I am going to recommend a model for you that is simply phenomenal. My contributory post will be free but will come in two or three parts.I will nonetheless ask you to consider it and then decide if it is worthwhile and of course if it is in sync with your aspirations; the latter being very important. In putting all the contemporary variables into consideration and adding the fact that this may be your first incursion to big business (as inferred from the reason behind you putting up the post in the first place) your best bet is an investment in fast Moving Consumer Goods Business. It is the best rung on the business ladder that you can launch out from. This model thrives on high density demographics so Owerri Municipality would be a good starting point and also a nucleus for Imo State. you could then expand into Orlu and Okigwe while of course ensuring that the Mbaise stretch is also taken care of adequately (No I am not from there, never lived there but did work as National Sales Manager for various companies and for many years too so I know the whole country quite well). There are multiple stages you would have to go through in order to arrive at your desired eldorado. Step one would be to identify a good product from a reasonably sized company. My suggestion would be that the product in question is not at the moment available in owerri and Imo State. The preferred product should also be a daily need or a snack/juice that appeals to young and old alike. Alternatively, you could chose two products from the same company (either a small cheap like Solo vs big more expensive like 1litre ). This is a very important stage in the evolution of your FMCG company. The product must be right. And remember the fewer the people who have access to its distribution in Owerri and indeed Imo State the better for you. I will discuss step two later. Typing can prove rather difficult for some of us who are not so young after all. |
I have only decided to comment because among all requests for ideas I have across in the business section this is one of the very few that makes some level of sense. Very sincere presentation and equally realistic expectations too.So here goes my opinion; If I had 300,000 and wanted to invest in a business that would give me a 5% margin monthly (N15,000.00) and I wouldn't directly want to get involved there would be a few options that I would invest in that would ensure the desired returns 100%. The first and more common option would be to invest in a supplies business. That is very tasking and also risky though but then very lucrative. A second and more attractive option would be for me to employ just one SSCE graduate in my neighbourhood and then source a product that he would deliver to different sales points in my immediate neighborhood and beyond and getting back my money instantly or on return. I know someone who has done this before and it worked very well. The results were quite astounding. many people would not understand this moddel but it works like magic if well designed and implemented. |
BEST ADVICE EVER. Action begets results. Inaction begets results too. If you know, you know. I had to find the thread and read through it. Superb thread filed with great advice just like this one. I hope we all take massive and consistent action this year. ASPIREX: |
Ayofaks:Wonderful idea. You can source cartons primarily or secondarily. Whichever option you choose, you will still smile to the bank if you are consistent. There are several carton depots in Lagos where you can get used cartons for a 'steal'. Mind you, I speak from experience. A good business for the new entrant into business. |
Quinns:I owe you one Bro! Your prognosis was substantiated. Nigeria is indeed a very funny country, but I suppose the comic relief s good for us. Details in a subsequent post. |
Oktane:Just to say thanks and state my observations. The two options you provided were fair. I invested 20,000 (10,000 in each product). The household product was rather slow and though it was revolutionary in terms of packaging and pricing it was still considered generally slow. The second product was the bomb maybe because of its consumable nature. It finished so fast that I was myself amazed. But the company is closed till next week. So, I have decided to settle for the latter and request that you provide guidelines as you promised regarding how I can make 5k per day. I will send you a mail later today. Kindly respond with the guideline. |
Quinns:I consider your tone quite civil and matured thus my proclivity to responding. First of all I am a hired hand. I work for a recruitment firm that is hired to fill the positions advertised. On the issue of name of company, I am not at liberty to disclose that here. But let us just say that they are a food business seeking to expand their frontiers. Its not a well known name. Regarding getting qualified candidates I agree with you that geographical limitations (for which a number of reasons were adduced) will definitely make it difficult to attract the very best. We all stand in recognition of this and the client has said that if he gets trainable candidates he will forge them to suit his expectations. I am sure you will agree with me that this is as god an approach as any other. Finally, I am of the opinion that the contemporary means of communication especially social media has shot this issue of ritual killings out of proportion. While I admit that there will be series of kidnaps and ritualistic killings I am also inclined to believe that they have benn exaggerated beyond reasonable proportions. I stand to be corrected. |
Quinns:The advert specifically limited the catchment for candidates to the proximity of the company. We even added that only interested candidates already residing in that neighbourhood will be considered. The last statement though (as bolded) is quite revealing about your person and disposition. It does not deserve a response. Fortunately, there are some courageous applicants who will overlook such 'fears' and trudge along in their search for a legitimate and humane opportunity to improve themselves careerwise while earning some income. |
Please ensure that you state clearly the position/role you are applying for as the subject of the mail. |
Only candidates residing in and around Akute will be considered. Applications are coming in from different parts of Lagos. It doesn't make sense for you to apply for a job in Akute while residing around Agbara/Ijanikin. We have even received applications from candidates residing in Igbo Efon. How do you cope? Please read the advertisement carefully before applying for the preferred position. |

adaomaoluchi:Our brief specifically stipulated Food Science and Technology. Drawing from my experience i would like to state here that graduates from related disciplines like Micro-Biology, Biological Science, Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry could also apply but would have to write a very detailed cover letter which should seek to explain the relevance of your training/certification to the advertised role. I have seen something similar playout in the Oil and gas sector. The position advertised for was Petroleum Engineering Executive. During the shortlisting process the most favoured candidate appeared to be a Petroleum and Gas Engineering graduate from University of Lagos. There was however one young applicant with a FUTO Chemical Engineering first degree who applied with a very passionate cover letter that made a successful go at detailing the relevance of his training to the position. It was only fair that we at least invited him to an interview. This guy was the bomb and he really defended himself. The panel was so impressed that he was the numero uno recomendee. he scaled through primarily because he was smart. My advice would be that the Microbiology and graduates of other related disciplines should apply. Afterall, you really don't lose anything in applying. But please pay attention to your cover letter. It could make all the difference. |
