Religion / Happy Jumaat Sermon by ALMUSTAQIM(m): 10:18am On Dec 15, 2023
Assalam Alaekum wa Rrahmatullah wa Barakatuhu.

Every minute, someone leaves this world behind.

We're all in "the queue" without knowing it.

We will never know how many people are ahead of us.

We can't move to the bottom of the row.

We can't get out of line.

We can't avoid the queue.

So, while we wait in line.
Make the moments count!

Make priorities.
Make the time.
Let your qualities be known.
Make people feel important.
Make your voice heard.
Make big things out of small things.
Make someone smile.
Make the change.

Make love.
Make Peace.
Get it together.
Make sure you tell your people you love them.
Make sure you have no regrets.
Make sure you're in a state of readiness always.

Very true.
Live life and let live, enjoy, be grateful,
don't waste time arguing,
fighting in doing bad things.

Life is short,
live it,
be humble,
love yourself and be happy with what you have.

Ya Allah,

We ask You to remove our attachment to worldly things.

Instead, make our hearts attached to You and make us love You more.

Keep our hearts pure and always obedient in Your Path, no matter what’s going on in our lives.

It’s the only way to have peace in our hearts.

Aameen, Aameen

Religion / Responsible Parenting by ALMUSTAQIM(m): 8:21am On Dec 08, 2023
Assalaam Alaekum wa Rrahmatullah wa Barakatuh

Responsible Parenting

Reasons parents beat their children:

1. To gain the respect of their children whereas, In reality, beating or smacking does not in any way make a child respect the parents but rather fear them.

2. To make them cooperate at the moment. The children end up fearing the parents so much that they only cooperate with the parents at the moment and then, what happens when the parents aren't available?

3. To be in control of the children.

Out of these reasons, only One can be effectively attained, which is cooperating with the parents at the moment.

To attain respect, discipline and cooperation, the following must be in place.

1. There must be clear rules and boundaries.

2. There must be clear consequences.

Attaining Respect

1. Be a listener to your children. Listening and speaking to children a lot establishes a connection with them. Listen to the important and not so important things they say. Speaking to your children. The parents could take the opportunity of speaking and listening to children to build empathy in them. This could help in validating their emotions and showing care genuinely. Speak to your children about your emotions too and when listening to your children ensure that it is flowing, don't cut them short.

2. Play with them a lot. This is from the legacy of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم , he used to play with his grandchildren a lot. It could be something as simple as playing scrabble or building bricks with them. The more you play with them, the more they are familiar and depend on you.

3. Display your affection for them. Showing affection to children would increase their dependence on you making it very easy to gain control of them.

4. Praising children. A lot of parents only criticise when kids do things wrong, they do not praise them when they do things right. Praising children would make them seek more validation and approval from you.

5. Using positive words for your children. Using positive words for children increases their motivation to strive to do better and live up to the expectations of the parents.

6. Teaching children a lot of things. Teaching children a lot of things would increase their dependence on you for guidance. Being a good role model to children by teaching and guiding them in their struggles would make it easy for them to look up to you and respect you.

7. Being a warm presence to them. Build up the image of a warm presence to your children by not constantly nagging and making it a responsibility to make them a source of joy for you.

Attaining control and cooperation at the moment

1. Give them very clear explanations calmly when giving them orders.

2. Give them choices. This makes them feel like they're in control by giving them the opportunity to make their decision after giving them choices. Be firm but give them choices, this breeds responsibility in them towards what they want to do.

3. Describe rather criticise. You don't have to criticise but rather describe your orders simply and clearly. You don't have to get yourself frustrated, this would give you a more peaceful life. The way we give the order is what causes us to become frustrated a lot of times. Just see the description as a routine of what you are meant to repeat to the children. So, keep repeating those descriptions, they'd eventually learn to do it on their own with time.

4. Parents should give information rather than orders. Giving information rather than orders will make children more willing to carry out the orders. Give information in single words e.g Amal, the door (Meaning close the door) Abdullah, the table (Meaning clean the table) etc.

5. Leave notes. You could leave appreciation notes on things they do positively.

Attaining discipline

1. Teach the process. Teach children how they are supposed to carry a particular thing by giving detailed steps.

2. Get involved by effectively communicating with the children. Getting involved has to do with communicating with the children and making valid plans to make them better. All these require studying and researching widely on processes that would help them get better.

3. Make them take responsibility by facing natural consequences.

4. Giving external consequences that does not require beating.

5. Using our bond or connection with the children to our advantage. It could be by denying them some of the natural things you do with them for a short while e.g playing with them.

Ya Allah,

We pray that you continue to guard and guide us aright always so we can effectively discharge our duties as Parents and Guardians

We pray that you provide for us Sufficiently abundantly to meet the needs of our Children and family members

Aameen.

Happy Jumaat, happy weekend 🩷🧡💛💚❤️

Nigeria at COP28: Separating The Facts From Fiction By Temitope Ajayi

The number of delegates from Nigeria attending the ongoing Climate Summit in Dubai otherwise called COP28 has generated a lot of controversies and strong social media conversations in the last 24 hours. It is important to set the record straight and provide some clarity. To begin with, the Summit is tagged COP which means Convention of Parties. The ongoing Summit in Dubai with over 97,000 delegates from more than 100 countries around the world is the 28th in the series since the issue of climate change and action took preeminent stage in global affairs. COP27 took place at Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt last year.

When the world comes together to take actions on achieving a common goal and proffer collective solutions to a nagging global concern, there are parties involved from government, private sector, civil society, media and multilateral institutions. The people coming together to advance their different agenda and interests from governments, businesses and civil societies are the parties to the convention who represent various shades of opinions and pushing for various mitigating actions.

In Nigeria like so many other countries, interested parties comprising government officials from both the Federal and sub-national governments, business leaders, environmentalists, climate activists and journalists are present in Dubai. Also participating  are agencies of government such as the NNPC and its subsidiaries, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, NIMASA,   NDDC. Many youth organisations from Nigeria especially from the Northern and Niger-Delta regions whose lives and livelihoods are most impacted by desert encroachment and hydrocarbon activities are also represented. The President of Ijaw Youth Council, Jonathan Lokpobiri, leads a pan-Ijaw delegation of more than 15 people who registered as parties from Nigeria. Among delegates from Nigeria are also over 20 journalists from various media houses.

Their participation is very important. It is not for jamboree as it is being mischievously represented on social media.

It is important to state here that delegates from all countries whether from government, private sector, media and civil society groups attend COP summits and conferences as parties and the number of attendees are registered against their countries of origin. This does not mean that they are sponsored or funded by the government. It must be said also that the fact that people registered to attend a conference does not also mean everyone that registered are physically present.

As the biggest country in Africa, biggest economy and one with a bigger stake on climate action as a country with huge extractive economy, it is a no-brainer that delegates from Nigeria will be more than any other country in Africa.

Among the delegates from Nigeria are UBA Chairman, Tony Elumelu, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA group, and other billionaires whose businesses are promoting sustainability and climate actions through their philanthropies. These businessmen and women and their staff who came with them to promote their own business interests are part of the 1,411 delegates  from Nigeria.  Their trip to Dubai is not funded by the Federal Government.

United Nations Climate summit, by its very nature, commands attendance of big names from across the world - statesmen and women, politicians, lawmakers, corporate titans,  journalists and activists, etc who promote big global agenda. So, people attend the summit for many reasons. And because climate issue is the biggest global issue of the moment, it is not surprising that over 97,000 people including Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, King Charles of United Kingdom, Prime Minister of Netherlands, Mark Rutte, U.S.

Vice President Kamala Harris, US Special Envoy on Climate Change and former Secretary of State, John Kerry, President Bola Tinubu, United Nations Secretary General, Antonio  Guterres, World Bank President, Ajay Banga, International Monetary Fund President, Kristalina Georgieva, World Trade Organisation Director General, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Africa Development Bank President, Akinwumi Adesina, former US Vice President and Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Al Gore and almost 100 Heads of States and Governments converged on Dubai for COP28. It is the first of its kind in the history of the summit because of the importance of climate change to global well-being.

After the opening and national statements by Heads of States which began from November 30 when the summit opened and up until Saturday December 2, 2023, the real work of COP28 which are the technical sessions and negotiations, financing, etc will begin from Monday, December 4 till December 12 where agreements will be reached on many proposals for consideration and ratification by the parties.

Those with sufficient understanding and knowledge on climate matters know that issues around the subject have  layers and multiplicity of factors that require experts from various fields. There are lined-up technical sessions on financing climate actions at sub-national levels, regions and local governments. State Governors from Nigeria such as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Umo Eno of Akwa-Ibom have been really busy with their officials at COP28, making presentations, speaking at panel sessions and pitching some of their sustainability projects to development partners and investors.

Multifaceted stakeholders from different countries including Nigeria are on ground in Dubai because they don't want decisions that will affect them to be taken without pushing their own agenda. It is the reason delegates from China and Brazil are over 3000 respectively. China is one of the world biggest polluters and Brazil is at the centre of global climate debate with her Amazon rainforest. These two countries know important decisions that will affect them will be taken and they have to move everything to be fully on ground and ensure they are fully represented by their best brains at every level of discussion and negotiation.

Like former President Muhammadu Buhari and other African leaders who demanded fair deal and climate justice for Africa at previous UN Climate summits, President Tinubu is leading the charge at COP28 on behalf of Nigeria and the rest of the continent, demanding from the West that any climate decision and action must be fair and just to Africa and Nigeria in particular, especially the debate around energy transition. President Tinubu has been unequivocal in his position that Africa that is battling problems of poverty, security and struggling to provide education and healthcare to her people can not be told to abandon its major source of income which is mostly from extractive industries without the West providing the funding and investment in alternative and clean energy sources. President Tinubu and other officials on the Federal government delegation are in Dubai for serious business not jamboree. Our President has been very busy representing our country well. Since Thursday morning when he arrived Dubai, President Tinubu has spent not less than 18hours daily in attending very important sessions, pushing our national agenda whilst holding bilateral and business meetings on the sidelines.

Assalam Alaekum wa Rrahmatullah wa Barakatuhu

Life is short

Too short, honestly.

Everything you engage in should therefore serve a purpose.

Don’t let the distraction around you make you lose the focus.

Remember, time lost is never regained.

Unfortunately, man is always in a hurry.

Take time to pause.

When angry, pause.

When in doubt, pause.

When you’ve done your best but don’t see the results, pause.

Learn how to pause deliberately.

It will have a significant impact on your life.

Ya Allah

We beg You to grant us peace of mind amidst the turmoil we face in our daily lives.

Don’t let anxiety and stress get the better of us.

Grant us clarity of vision to do what’s best, what's right and just, always.

Guide us on this journey of life which is often paved with obstacles.

Just within 100 days in office, Dr Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has been able to:

Cleared over 200,000 passports backlog he met in office ✅

Colloborated with the Private Sector to raise over N500m fines owed by over 4,000 of our inmates in order to set them free, thus, decongested our Correctional Centers ✅

Introduced technology in the security of our borders. ✅

Working assiduously to improve the welfare of our paramilitary ✅

Automation of Nigeria’s passport application, a process which is 99 per cent completed. ✅

Introduced E- gate in our international airports, reducing physical contacts with Immigration officers ✅

Reduced the whole process of passport processing to about two weeks ✅

Indeed, Dr Olubumi Tunji-Ojo has demonstrated that the ministry of interior is not just about declaring public holidays, he has set the pace in the ministry so high.

Do you have friends who will speak good about you behind your back?

Friends who will stand up for you and defend you in your absence?

If you have such friends, you’re blessed.

Nurture the friendship.

True friends are those who are willing to show up during all of your seasons - the good and bad, happy and sad, celebration and grief.

The problem today is we have too many fair-weather friends.

Ya Allah,

We sincerely ask You to make us better people today than we were yesterday.

Help us win the fight between desire and discipline so we may get closer to You.

Islam for Muslims / Jumaat Sermon: Avoid Broken Home At All Cost by ALMUSTAQIM(m): 8:58am On Nov 10, 2023
Assalaam Alaekum wa Rrahmatullah wa Barakatuh

AVOID BROKEN HOME AT ALL COST

Consequences of pride in a marriage could be irreversible.

If someone tells you that he/she has a perfect marriage, just know right away that he/she is a great liar.

Couples fight and fight badly for that matter but it's the ability to revise and reverse ones stand, communicate with respect and be honest with each other that determines the survival of any marital relationship.

If you remove pride and arrogance in your marital relationship, the marriage is already 90% promising, stable, peaceful and can thus, stand the test of time.

Invest in your marriage through giving, talking and compromising here and there.

Your business as a stakeholder in marriage should be what to do to make your home peaceful and stable for you, your spouse, and your children as well other family members.

STOP running to 3rd parties who equally have their own challenges, they are probably hiding and managing. You may end up getting nothing positive or helpful from such friends, family members, Church/Mosque members, and colleagues to whom you are exposing or trading what should be the secrets of your home.

Broken home is like a war. No party goes uninjured. Each party goes with an injury they nurse for the rest of their lives. That is the reality. Whichever party claims unaffected/uninjured is a chronic liar, chronic pretender, and an unrepentant soul. l mean he/she is stone hearted. Such a person has no idea of what a good home should be. He/she is ignorant of the positive impact of unbroken relationship on the home itself, the community, the church/mosque congregation, and the society at large.

No amount of success in life could compensate for failure at home. Simply ensure that your home is not scattered. Repair it now before it is too late.

If your home is experiencing separation now, ensure that you shed your pride and compromise to arrest it from drifting to a broken home.

STOP narrating your home affairs around to seek sympathy. Most people you have taken your story to and are supporting you, are in their own homes, keeping their homes intact, sympathising with you while you are already out of your own home.

To be sincere with you, what you will be treated to outside your home will not be what you bargained for. Think now and go back. May God help and bless you.

In marriages, we are all managing each other and there is no perfect marriage and till death, couples must continue to manage each other.

If your marriage will last, manage your spouse, there is no perfect marriage out there.

Oh Allah,
Please never let our heart be disturbed by the trials of life, open the doors of your mercy to us, ease our ways of life, accept our worship, bless our time, comfort our graves, forgive our sins, grant us favour in everything we do, never forsake us and our family in this world and hereafter, Aamiin.......

Happy Jumaat, Happy Weekend ❤️🩷🧡🧡💚
