Literature › Walk Your Talk..... One Step At A Time by AloyalNigerian(op): 11:07pm On Nov 19, 2017*. Modified: 11:26pm On Nov 19, 2017 |
"If we did the things we are capable of, we would astound ourselves." Thomas Edison. Those are the words of a great man that once lived. A man who WALKED his TALKS, one step at a time. Many of us are living our lives talking the talk but not walking the walk. We have a false believe that we can get credibility and people's respect through our words and not our actions. A lot of things are much easier said than done. This describe the problem many people experience. We all have something in life that we would like to do: a dream we want to achieve, a goal we want to reach. However after talking, we never try to put the plans into action.
It is of utmost important that all that which we dream is not left undone. If you have a dream or plan that you want to bring to life, don’t procrastinate; don’t give up or put it off. If you do, it will end up being left by the wayside , forgotten. Keep in mind that words are blown away with the wind. You can always say, over and over again, that you are going to start working on your goals or dreams to drive them towards actualization, but if you don't start, you will never see any result coming forth. Action is necessary if any dream is to yield result.
Having a preconceived notion that because a path is a difficult one it is not worth taking, makes starting an almost impossible task. But, if you can discard all doubts and take the first bold step you will definitely experience small successes throughout the journey that will give you satisfaction and motivate you to take the next. Standing there, staring into the distance, talking and hoping that everything will just happen is a futile effort because it just won't. “Act instead of asking. Sacrifice yourself without any hope of glory nor reward. If you want see miracles, make them yourself. Only in this way can you reach your own unique destiny.” -Ludwig van Beethoven If you keep talking about your great ideas and projects without doing anything, be rest assured that you will never make a mistake, but will also never achieve success.
Definitely, when you decide to do something for the first time with little or no prior knowledge, a moment may come in which you start feeling dissapointed and maybe regrets. It will get to a stage that you will wish you never started it in the first place. However, the rewards of those who are brave to keep on walking are much greater than those who gave up. It is idleness that reap no rewards, and instead generate fear. To live always feeling trapped, fleeing from anything challenging or ambitious, does not lead to greatness, happiness, or a feeling of pride in your accomplishments.
Finally, the regrets of not having taken action is much worse than having starting, done something and making mistakes. You will always know that at least you tried and did everything you could to reach your goal, your objectives and what you believe in. Don’t remain frozen, don’t hesitate, before getting started. Don’t even allow yourself a day in which you only talk about your big ideas and take no action. This will only make you feel extremely frustrated and sad. Don’t let fear paralyze you and prevent you from enjoying life as much as possible. Think; the opportunity is right in front of your own eyes .
It is important to always take chances and be brave in life. In order to see your dreams achieved, you have to begin with action, not words. Don’t listen to those who tell you that it is better to wait, because they are wrong. Be brave and work towards that which you want, because that is the only way to live a full and happy life.

AntiWailer: Yes u can..
All u need is a motivation.
U need to target 5.0 in at least 3 -4 semesters and nothing less than 4.6 in others.
5.0 is easy. Target 75 in all ur courses for that semester. Attend class and don't procrastinate.
PM me let us have a deal.
If u push your CGPA to 4.5 I will give u 50k.
And 20k every semester u are still in that 4.5 till u graduate. **** is my phone contact. Thanks. |

daseento: This should encourage you. I use to be there and I made it eventually. My Cgpa was 4.17 at the end of 200level and guess what I didn't give up. What I did was to go back to the drawing board and restrategise, my major advice is for you to identify your priority and be ready to pay the sacrifice, it won't be easy but with determination, impossibility is nothing but a figment of our imagination.
You can use this formula to extrapolate your CGPA
Anticipated CGPA = ( present CGPA *number of semester spent so far ) + (anticipated G.P) ______________________________________________ Number of semester spent + 1
The above formula will help you to plan your semester ahead including your desire grade in each course, this is necessary to keep you focused on the job.
I hope my 2cent help. Yea, it did. Thanks. |

Ojugunrege: yes, you can!
I will assume that the 4.25 is your current CGPA...I hope I'm correct. Mathematically; you need to get a minimum GPA of 4.61 every semester from now & boom you got your 1st class: (4.50×10 - 4.25×3)/7 = 4.6071= ca. 4.61.
now what does that mean in grades? it means more A's than B's.going forward target to get all A's with the occasional B's as slips. in that way, u are sure of your minimum GPA of 4.61 per semester...& watch your CGPA make that steady climb.. pay very particular attention to your high unit courses too...strive to get A in them.
BTW, I was in your shoes..I dropped from 4.53 to 4.39 to 4.17 & I really wanted a 1st class... one of my lecturers who knew my academic precedence (graduated top of my class in secondary school with 8A + 1C; was top of my dept on the admission list to university) and there I was struggling...gave me the advice above & I took it to heart...it was a lot of hard work, tireless end-2-end reading/studying all the way, never left anything to chance, prayers..by God's grace it paid off..the upward climb each semester was really encouraging...I had a GPA of 5.0 twice...I eventually left with a CGPA of 4.51.
more than a decade after. ..it still remained one of my most cherished achievements...
go for it...all the best! Thanks for the enlightenment. I will surely work on that. |

I am a living testimony, I dropped from 4.71 GPA to 4.11GPA with a CGPA of 4.44 after two semesters on campus( 100 level), To the Glory of God I graduated with a CGPA of 4.64 at the end of the 8th semester (400 level). Wow. Thanks. |

godwinony: Like I said, it isn't impossible if it is possible mathematically..try coding an excel sheet and input all your courses till final year then project all your scores using B..or you could try doing it manually which is hectic. If at conclusion you hit first class Cgpa, then aim for 'A's in some of the courses.. At least that's what I did. Having a physical target/goal does wonders for morale. Thanks. I will do that. |

Pridestorm: Which course are you studying? Crop, Soil and Pest Management. But I have special interest in computer science coz I write codes. So, I wrote jamb again and scored 286 but I'm not using it anymore. The sad thing is that, I prepared for the UTME at the expense of my course. So I had a straight drop from 4.57 to 4.28 and now 4.25. It's really painful though, but I want to make amends. |

Mitchely: Very Possible. You need to identify and deal with the issues. Aim to the best you can be, do not limit yourself to a first class (which is just 4.5 out of 5.0). Also do not just go through school, also acquire diverse skillets and all round development. These with a 'first class first class' is possible. Thanks Bro |

I'm presently on 4.25 after dropping from 4.57 to 4.28 and then to 4.25. I relented due to some issues. Because, I had several options before me so I started losing interest in my course.
Now, my question is, can I still make a first class degree having spent 3 semesters out of 10. |
