Welcome to another edition of ‘Top SEO News For The Week’. Since last week, up till now, nothing really big or disruptive happened in the SEO world. Only the usual few twitter threads or online forums talking about their observations about Google. However, I will still share with you everything that concerned SEO in this past week. Let’s get into it! #1 Pages With Featured Snippets Will No Longer Appear Twice On Page 1 Google has confirmed that it will no longer display a page with featured snippets twice anymore. This is done in a bid to decluster the SERPs and make it easy for users to check through other relevant results. This new update was deployed globally for both mobile and desktop. Previously, you must have noticed that Google displays the same page twice, because that particular page has been used as a featured snippet. Then it reappears again in its right position, usually between position 1 – 3. This new update is cool right? #2 You Can Now Add Images To Your Google Collections In a bid to make things easy for searchers, Google has enabled a feature whereby you can add images on SERP to your collections so you can go back to it later on. You know there are times when you are searching for a particular thing, probably a cooking tutorial, without the intention of doing it immediately? When you get the search results, you often forget to copy the link or even go through the stress of bookmarking the page on your browser. Now, you can simply add to your collections and access it anywhere your Google account is logged in by typing www.google.com/collections in your browser. Isn’t that exciting? #3 Google’s Dataset Search Engine Is Out of Beta Stage Google launched dataset search in September 2018, and it was in its beta stage. Now, Google has declared that it is officially out of beta and it has indexed about 25 million datasets. In case you are wondering what this dataset search is all about, well, it is an engine dedicated majorly for users that intend to know everything about a particular subject, maybe dogs or cancer or biology, etc. Publishers get their research works indexed by Google, who then display to searches who need it. Simply put, the new dataset engine helps you to find all the data available on the particular subject you are interested in. There is a specific markup for displaying data tables in search results. #4 Violating One Of Google Webmasters’ Guidelines May Not Result To Manual Action Manual action is the peak of all penalties, when your site is singled out manually for penalty after you must have tricked the algorithm so many times without getting caught. On Reddit, Google’s John Mueller was asked by an SEO why his competitor was outranking him despite the fact that he was using hidden, keyword stuffed text? Mueller responded by saying, the hidden text is not the only factor considered for ranking, rather, it is just one of many. Hence, a site may not be banned because it has violated one of these rules. Also, some sites unintentionally use hidden texts, and Google has factored this into their algorithm to be lenient with this set. A case of ‘not throwing away the baby with the bathwater’. Going by this, can we advise people to cut corners since the chances of being banned is now slim? CONCLUSION This is it for this week. I hope you are now up-to-date as regarding some of the happenings in SEO for this past week. I will bring more to you this coming week. Please like and share this if you like it. Thanks. See you next week Sunday . |
pushups44:Excellent points. Content is king, no doubt. But offsite SEO is the crown (majorly backlinks). ![]() |

I once had an encounter with a client who practically swallowed everything I told her hook and sinker about her blog’s SEO. Wait! Not that I told her any lies, I just unraveled from the little conversation we had that she didn’t know anything about SEO. Probably, some folks in my shoes would have charged her ridiculously but I didn’t. Out of curiosity, I asked her, “Ma’am, you don’t seem to know anything about SEO”. Her response was, “Why should I learn it when I can outsource it?”. Wow! Just wow! She had a point though, but knowing the knitty-gritty is very different from having the right idea about it. At least, if she had any idea, she could have easily pointed out what she wanted me to do in clear terms. Also, it would save SEOs from a lot of headache caused by clients who want you to perform an overnight magic and make their site or blog appear on the front page of Google. I am aware of what other SEOs do to shut them up in this case. Some simply optimize their content for a low-valued, irrelevant long-tail keyword that will never generate any reasonable click, at least for now. But, since they were able to see their site on the front page, they feel super happy. Knowing what you really want in relation to what is attainable will definitely help you and save you from a lot of stress and disappointments. Okay! I have highlighted 5 reasons why everyone must learn a thing or two about SEO. ⇒ Avoid Getting Duped by SEO Agencies The easiest way to get duped by any ingenuine SEO agency when you pay for their services is when you don’t really know what you want or how to measure the effect of their work on your blog or site. If you approach any of them with enough knowledge about what you want, it would become difficult for them to trick you into believing what is not true. Since you have an idea, and the only thing you need them to do is handle the technical aspect of SEO which you forgivably unaware of. Also, you will be able to access their work and ascertain if they did anything or not. With time, as you learn and grow in SEO, you would be able to easily handle a lot of small SEO tasks that you would have normally outsourced because you didn’t know a thing about it. ⇒ Run Quick and SImple SEO Analysis There are tons of SEO tools out there that you can use to run some SEO analysis on your blog before hiring anyone to do anything for you. A lot of times, these tools will detect the problems and proffer appropriate solutions to them depending on the complexity of the tools. The best tools out there are not free, some are really on the high side while the rest are quite affordable too. Squeezing the cost of acquiring these tools will do a lot to help you in the long run, because there are some small SEO issues that require immediate fixes and they have beneficial rewards. Unlike when you have to wait till the issue deteriorate and starts showing visible symptoms before you know the right time has come to take action. It might be too late already by then. ⇒ Easily Implement Small SEO Fixes The more you learn SEO, with time, you will be acquainted with what it is and find it easy to rectify anything in that regard. For instance, one of these tools might suggestions like adding alt tags to your images, or rightly labelling the links you have on your blog pages according to this Google new rule. If your blog is hosted on wordpress, solving this problem is not that difficult. In you Media Library, you can edit the images and add the appropriate (SEO rich) alt tags. Also, editing the ‘rel’ of your links is not that difficult, but this time you really need to get into the html code editor and make the necessary corrections. These are not things you know within a few days, rather, the more time you spend learning SEO, the more you know. Change is Constant and SEO tactics changes every now and then too, based on the changes, the recent one is often referred to as the ‘2020 core algorithm update’. ⇒ Know The Dos and Don’ts of SEO to Avoid Penalties (Google) Google has placed measures in place to penalize defaulting blogs that are most likely doing some black hat SEO tricks. If the automated measures do not detect you, very soon, you may be slammed with a manual action by one of ‘Google online cops’. Unfortunately, you might not even be aware of what you have done to deserve the ban because you have no idea on the dos and don’ts of SEO. It is opined that, ignorance is not an excuse in the face of the law. Any SEO person might have asked you to do some things that will boost your SERP rankings without letting you know the implication of what you are doing. Google greatly frowns against Black hat SEO practices, and you should refrain from indulging in the act as well for the sake of your site. ⇒ Know Little Things to Promote Your Small Business Online Using SEO Small business owners are not left on SEO knowledge as well. You have a lot to benefit from SEO as a business owner that is trying to get your business online. There are so many untapped juices out there online waiting to be harvested only if you know the right thing to do starting from social media marketing, online ads, local seo, etc. Local SEO, for instance, is now growing in popularity amongst businesses online as more and more businesses are now claiming their businesses on Google by creating a Google My Business profile. The benefits of this platform are numerous, and it is so easy to set up a Google My Business profile for your business. CONCLUSION To follow the old cliche, ‘I hope with these points of mine, I have been able to convince and not to confuse you on reasons why you must learn SEO this year.’ That was on a lighter note though. As highlighted in the preceding points, you can now see that it is essential that you learn the basics of SEO. You can start learning here on this blog, SEOJagaban. These 2 basic SEO guide will set you on the right path: “Beginners’ Guide to SEO Success – Ahrefs” and “Beginner’s Guide to SEO – Moz” . I wish you well in this new adventure. Please, share this post and drop a comment on what you think. I would love to hear and listen from your opinion .Thanks. source: https://seojagaban.com/seo-5-reasons-why-you-must-learn-in-2020/

skultrick:Exactly bro. Content is just like 20% of the whole work. Coz no be only u dey churn out amazing contents. |
There is no way you will talk about Local SEO without referring to GMB. This platform, Google My Business, is the bedrock of other local SEO strategies. Only few businesses create a profile on this platform and claim their businesses. Even fewer businesses optimized their profile so as to rank ahead of their competitors. I already have a post on how to optimize your GMB profile to rank well, as a result, I felt the need to create this post so as to cater for people who have no idea on how to set up a profile and claim their business. I have no offline business, hence, I am not eligible to use this service. But I created a profile for my cousin’s business even without her asking me to because I know what she, together with her business, tend to gain in the long run. Google has its set guidelines for representing your business on GMB. Also, Google uses some simple rules to rank local search results. They are: Relevance: This means the user search query must be relevant or related to that of your business. As expected, a user searching for the closest barbing salon should not be getting results of a spa. Unless, of course, the spa has a barbing salon. Distance: Another factor is the closeness of your business to the user’s location. Even if your business is so relevant to the user’s search query, your business may not come up if it is too far away from the user’s location. Prominence: Just like normal Google thing, bigger brands are often ranked higher for top, single-worded keywords. In like manner, Google has a soft spot for businesses that are quite popular offline. How do they know this? The customers’ reviews, discussions on social channels, etc. are means through which Google can gauge the prominence of a business offline. BENEFITS OF SETTING UP A GMB PROFILE There are juicy benefits your business stand to gain if you set up your GMB profile, some of which are: Free Business Listing: There are so many places where people list their businesses online for a monthly or yearly fee, but in this case you are listing your business on Google, the biggest search engine in the world. Hence, when people search for businesses like your that are close to them, your business profiles pops up containing all the information needed by the user. Opportunity of Being Included in Google’s Local Pack: You may be wondering, what is Local Pack? Well, simply put, this is seen when you run a search on a business near you. 3 of these businesses that meets the 3 ranking rules are placed on the map for you to see. The screenshot below shows the result I got when I searched the phrase ‘Food Canteen’. Can you see the Local Pack? Good! It is only when you create a profile on Google My Business (GMB) that your business will be eligible for this. Google My Business now incorporates Google Places, Google Listings, and Google + Business Pages. It is the main place where you can manage and update your online business information and business Profile and optimize your business for search rank. Enough of the benefits. Let’s go fully into the purpose of this piece, which is to guide you on how to create your Google My Business profile. Are you ready? How To Set Up Your Google My Business (GMB) Profile. Steps and screenshots can be found on the blog. Link below. source: https://seojagaban.com/how-to-set-up-google-my-business-gmb-profile-guide/

A lot of occurrences happened to SEO, from the beginning of this year and during the course of the previous. See! 1. January 2020 Core Update Rolled Out Of all the other news, this seems to be the biggest, because it is putting a lot of SEOs on their toes. By the time you are reading this news, you might be seeing the impact of this core algorithm update on your blog already. 2. Google Now Apply BERT Models to Search Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers, BERT, for short is a technology that enables anyone to train their own state-of-the-art question answering system. With this new technology, Google can now correctly interpret the intent behind users’ search queries and return the appropriate results. 3. Organic ‘Popular Products’ Listing on Mobile Google previously made this feature exclusive for paid ads, where users will be able to search through the products available on a particular store without opening the store directly. Surprisingly, Google brought back this feature for mobile users and its super cool. 4. Structured Data Does Not Affect Ranking There seemed to be an error seen in the improvement suggestions shown to a blogger. It was a wrong suggestion already debunked by Google. source: http://seojagaban.com/this-weeks-top-stories-on-seo-ep-3/

It was a very difficult moment for me, when I tried using some of the plugins that I installed on my blog. I discovered that none of my plugin was visible anymore. I tried further to try installing them again but I was getting an error such as the one seen below. ‘Installation failed: Could not create directory’. Of course, as expected, I rushed down to Google and I entered my search query. Trust me, the results that were returned gave me a peace of mind that soon turned out to be false, because almost every blog that I visited was saying the same thing. Everyone on the forums or blog comment sections could bet a fortune that nothing else could be the solution except what they have proffered. I tried what they suggested, but it was not working in my case at all. Just like the way you are probably feeling right now. I didn’t know what to do anymore. I kept at it until I stumbled upon a blog were a user was lucky enough to detect another source of the problem. Fortunately for me, her solution solved my problems easily. I kid you not. In this article, I will walk you through the steps you can take to rectify this error whenever you encounter it. For clarity sake, I will mention the other common solution as well, and the one that worked for me will be mentioned last. Honestly, I would have posted the guide here, but including the screenshots here is not an easy task. If you are passing through the same problem, you might want to check this post out. Thanks! sources: https://seojagaban.com/installation-failed-directory-could-not-be-created-solution-2020/

It is no longer news, I believe, about how important SEO has grown over the years. As a matter of fact, Google seem to be major player dominating this sphere. This is not surprising because it is the biggest search engine worldwide and the most used. Hence, it dictates the tune to which every SEO must dance to. Google is seen as the standard. You are probably one of the people who believe SEO is unfruitful and the big players and early adopters have dominated the juicy keywords. Or you might be like me who believe that while I do the right thing, I don’t have to pay specific attention to any SEO tips. Where do you fall? Meanwhile, you should check out other good reasons people hate SEO. Let’s start! It can be unpredictable There is an algorithm behind Google that makes it do whatever it does. Unfortunately or fortunately for us, as the case may be, it is becoming more brilliant as the day goes by because of the volume of data available. It refines this data and teaches itself by itself (lol) how to do the right thing. Hence, because of the unpredictable nature of Google, most people dislike SEO. We have seen cases of blogs that went under the water and never came back to shore as a result of a major update made to the algorithm. Sometimes, a little readjustment at the right time may avert any disaster. Other times, the algorithm update may affect a particular niche of websites e.g. Sport betting sites. It is so unpredictable! Google may do everyone the priviledge of announcing these updates or they may keep mum about it while they let SEOs detect these changes based on fluctuations seen in their site data. In other words, a strategy you may have to ditch away a strategy that you have already begun work on no matter how much you have devoted to it. Requires a lot of work initially For a new blog, you are required to start running your blog with the consciousness of the presence of SEO. Oftentimes, most of the things you have to do can be stressful and difficult. But I bet it can’t be as difficult as it would be for an old blog that is just starting to take SEO into account. This is why I said, SEO requires a lot of work initially and even more work later on, because you have to be on the lookout for new updates to the algorithm so you can make the necessary jump if you don’t want to drown with the sinking ship. In addition, if you craft out a very nice SEO strategy, the stress and pain will be worth the numerous gains you will get in the long run. This is only attainable if you have a valid plan. There’s no instant gratification Unlike what people may expect from SEOs, there is no instant result for every task completed. It takes time for search engines to actually notice your effort, take note of it, analyze it and determine if it’s good. If it’s okay, then the results will start to show gradually. For instance, a newly published content does not just rank and top the SERPs overnight. No! It does not happen and it will never happen, sorry. To rank high with time, your content needs to offer true value to the readers which Google can detect based on the number of shares the particular post is getting in the social sphere, as well as the amount of time they are spending on that particular page. This does not just automatically push you to the top of the page for major keywords, however, it may do so for long-tail keywords which I strongly suggest that you use, other factors exist which you must cross before the magic happens. There is no two ways about, it takes time. As a result, I’d advise you to be beware of SEOs that promise to perform that kind of magic to you. It doesn’t exist anywhere. Even IF it does happen, trust me, it will be short lived and you risk getting your blog flagged by Google. Consequences of the actions perpetrated by Black Hat SEOs Sequel to what I told you earlier, SEOs coming to you with the promise of getting your website to top the SERP ranks are most likely going to do SEO tricks known as Black Hat SEO for you. This may generate the result you want ASAP but when the SEOs are gone, you will be the one to bear the brunt whenever Google comes knocking on your door and there will be no one there to save you. Now, people who are victims of this act may feel Google is unfair. A friend of mine had the same issue with his music blog, a blog he started to allow people to download music from. While achieving his aim, he was infringing on so many rights and he was reported to Google a good number of times before Google decided to penalize him. Guess what he got? His blog disappeared totally from Google search engine where most of his traffic comes from. Now, he had to start afresh. In his own case, he was aware of the consequences of his actions right from time but he decided to do otherwise. Still, he is blaming Google for his predicament. Popular keywords are already dominated by big brands It is always in the rules of the game; “Those who have a lot of cash to spare will lead, while others will follow”. This is very obvious on SERPs, big brands have already dominated the major keywords, aside this, they also spend a lot of money on PPC to still put their brands ahead of small folks like us that are putting a lot work into content marketing. They outrank and outspend their competitors. That’s the game. All these are not meant to scare you, because there are cool ways around this that can make you get your own fair share of traffic. The top on this list is the use of long-tail keywords. The benefit of using this type of keywords is that it is not broad, but very specific and target the right audience. That is, if you are spending on ads, it will be minimal and very effective. In like manner, if you are trying to rank naturally for these keywords, it will be easier for you. They are commonly called a sort of ‘low hanging fruits’. You are too focused on Google Yes, I know! Google is dominating the search engine space and they dictate the tune to which every developer must dance to bla bla bla bla bla. Yea, I said it earlier and I am saying it again, so do not try to tie my hands with my own words. LOL! To be frank, there are some situations where people don’t even make use of Google before they achieve their goal. Twitter is a search engine. Quora is a search engine. Yelp is a search engine. Facebook is a search engine. Youtube is a search engine. Pinterest is a search engine. Amazon is a search engine. Yikes! There are so many search engines out there aside Google that people still use to get things done. Though, the numbers may be small, but they can still work for you. What I am trying to say is that you target your prospective clients directly from those sites and they will find you easily using their search engines. Think of a scenario where you are about to make a purchase and the first thing on your mind is to get people’s opinion, so you headed to Nairaland, after weighing your options and already armed with adequate information on what you want, you can go directly to the e-commerce store where you will make your purchase based on what people have said. Do you understand? If you do, then paint other scenarios through which you can direct traffic to your website by actively bypassing Google. Chart out a course, create a strategy and work on it. I wish you luck! CONCLUSION SEOs who overpromise and underdeliver are everywhere, I have seen them during my daily interactions with people here in my country, Nigeria. I have also seen people from other countries who do the same thing too online. Nigerian bloggers and all African bloggers generally who are still unaware of this should be informed now and stop wasting funds on irrelevancies. SEO is way beyond optimizing your website for Google or any other search engine on its own, but rather,. It’s about optimizing your presence across the web (that is, on all available and applicable channels). source: https://seojagaban.com/6-undeniable-reasons-people-hate-seo/

Hi all, I am working on a personal project that requires me to grab the value selected by the user from the drop-down and use that value to in another place probably to display it as a text.
I was getting errors stating that it can't find the value of undefined. I even tried to see if the eventlistener is working perfectly, and it is. This issue is giving me tough time even though I am using the value on the same page, imagine whta I am going through trying to use a grabbed value in another page. I am so sorry if my question is not clear enough but you can always ask for more clarification. Thanks in advance. |

Sanchez01:Wow. Cool stuff. I'd like to know more. Why did you ditch the AMP though? Because, I remember when my blog was down, the AMP version was being displayed to mobile users coming from Google. |
