CultureRe: The Oluyares: The Igbo Aborigines Of Ife Who Still Live There by AlphaTaikun: 1:39am On Apr 28
Sojiokungbure:
Iam Ugbo ,the aboriginal people of ile ife. We are not the same as Igbo of Eastern Nigeria who claimed to have originated from Israel.

The Ugbo of Ile ife are now known as Ilaje,Ijebu, Itsekiri, olukunmi, and Ikale. After migration from ife, they broke up into smaller tribes but their root remains Ugbo in Ondo State where Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom reside. It was from this Ugbo they dispersed to their present locations respectively and started bearing different names. For example, the first ijebu king is Lenuwa of Ode omi in Ogun waterside.
Then we have Liken of Iwopin, ogun waterside Local Government . And later, we have Awujale of Ijebu ode. These are first and original ijebu people. Others ijebu communities and groups came to join them due to migration or wars.

Itsekiri are cousins to Ilaje and ijebu while ikale are offshoot of Olugbo of Ugbo-Ilaje. The seventh Olugbo , Oba Olugbo Ameto gave birth to Ikale while some of them claim origin from Benin and few from Ile ife.

Yoruba had always been yoruba right from the beginning though they had previous name they beared before answering the name ,yoruba . These names are Anago, Olukunmi and Omokaro-ojiire . The people oduduwa met in ile ife are yoruba! It was Oduduwa himself who was not yoruba but was welcomed into yoruba land, tradition and culture. He spent sixteen years at oba palace in Ile ero where he learned about Yoruba language and culture.

Aboriginal people of Ile ife defeated Oduduwa after ruling ife for some years and chased his children away from ile ife! If not, how come Osangangan Obamakin became Ooni immediately After Oduduwa 's death? Are you aware that Obamakin son, Olbalufon Ogbogbodirin became Ooni of ile ife immediately after his father? And, his own son Obalufon Alayemore became Ooni of ife after his father, Ogbogbodinrin's death? Where was Oduduwa children and his people during this centuries years of ruling?

Do you know as many Nigerian politicians are claiming to be Obafemi Awolowo's sons and daughters while they are not his biological children is also the same way many Yoruba are claiming Oduduwa? Why?
1 Because they see Oduduwa as father figure because of his popularity.
2. Because they have been manipulated by the Yoruba Historians who told them Oduduwa descended from heaven in chain and found ife while making their real fathers look like victims and scapegoats
3. Because they are lazy to find out the truth about their source and so believe whatever Historians tell them even with conflicting write ups.
Deep perspectives and insights. According to Ufe (Ife) traditions, Oduduwa came from the hilly community of Oke Ora in Osun State (just 8 miles away from modern Ile Ife).

NaWhoTalkAm:
No, this is dangerous misinformation. First, Itsekiri is Itsekiri not Ijebu. Next, Itsekiri is not Yoruba and Yoruba is not the "parent" group of Itsekiri. Yes, the two groups are distantly related just as every two groups in the world are distantly related, that does not make them the same ethnic group. Itsekiri language is classified as its own language not a dialect and it has its own unique features, nor does language similarity even amount to shared ethnicity. It seems you are salivating to be regarded as the owner of Itsekiri land where oil is. But as with many of you Yorubas, you will not go and reduce yourself and your own group to an Itsekiri subgroup, instead you want to reduce Itsekiri to a Yoruba subgroup so you can enjoy our efforts without losing place. I won't even address the rest of the misinformation you provided, I've said enough. Be very careful, we see things clearly.
You created a brand new NL account just to post all these random and lame rebuttals on this NL thread. Go back and read about Itsekiri history going back to several centuries because you CLEARLY don't sound like one. Someone posted a newspaper interview link showing you the strong ancestral relationship between Ijebuland and Itsekiriland and you have the shortsightedness to deny the contents of that historical article.

You CLEARLY have deep comprehension issues. My original post was very CLEAR and succinctly stated about the history of the Itsekiris and the original Itsekiris led by Chief Lenuwa (who are of Ijebu descent at Ode Itsekiri) long before the arrival of Prince Ginuwa (the son of Oba Olua in 1480 from Benin Kingdom.

I'm aware that the Olus of Warri have always sent delegations or representatives of Itsekiriland for years now (with High Chief Jemide and his team at a particular instance) to attend yearly meetings involving Yoruba traditional rulers from Nigeria, Benin Republic and Togo including attendance by Yoruba technocrats and intelligentsia. Ilajes and folks from Ife also historically make up part of the major ancestries of the Itsekiri people. Is that too much for you to understand?

I will have to block you this boy because you come off sounding and acting like a troll. NOW get off my mention and go get yourself a proper job! Period.

[quote author=Ofun.aofu post=139230428]If You’re Supporting APC, Don’t Send CV”- Nigerian CEO’s Warning to APC Supporters

Tech founder Olamide Adee has gone viral after saying APC supporters should not apply for jobs at her company.
Her comments sparked backlash and debate over politics, hiring discrimination, and freedom of choice.

A Nigerian tech founder, Olamide Adee, has stirred reactions online after publicly stating that supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) should not apply to join her team or send their CVs.

In a series of posts shared on social media, Adee said she would not use her hard-earned money to employ APC supporters, claiming their political choices reflected poor judgment.

The founder also reacted after some critics reportedly emailed her company to complain about her remarks.

“You see ‘co-founder’ in my bio, you clicked on the website, copied the email and tried to fire me from a company I STARTED AND LEAD?
Is something mentally wrong with APC SUPPORTERS?”

She later added:

“Sending mails to my company ‘reporting’ me for saying I won’t hire APC supporters is diabolical sha.
I can see your mail, and I am THE BOSS.”

The posts have since gone viral, generating mixed reactions online. While some users supported her stance as a personal business decision, others criticized the comments and raised concerns about political discrimination in hiring practices.

The incident has further fueled conversations about politics, governance, and how personal beliefs intersect with employment decisions in Nigeria

Pakute:
Lagos State Government has signed a landmark Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with three electricity generation companies in a strategic move to significantly boost energy supply and strengthen the state’s power infrastructure.

The agreement, signed on Sunday at Lagos House, Marina, was witnessed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, while the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Abiodun Ogunleye, signed on behalf of the state government.

The partner firms—Mainland Power Limited, Akute Independent Power Plant and Fenchurch Power Limited are among the independent power producers operating within the state, with Fenchurch emerging as a new entrant in the partnership.

Speaking after the signing, Sanwo-Olu described the agreement as a people-focused initiative aimed at improving quality of life through reliable power supply. He urged all parties to uphold the terms of the deal with professionalism and commitment.

“This agreement is about the people and how easily we can solve problems. Let’s keep promises from both sides. When people benefit, life becomes easier. This marks the beginning of the reforms we are seeing in the energy sector,” the governor said.

Ogunleye explained that the agreement is designed to ramp up generation capacity and revive dormant assets without placing additional financial strain on the state.

According to him, the three firms currently generate about 60 megawatts (MW), with projections to scale up to between 200MW and 400MW within the next two to three years.

He disclosed that Mainland Power Limited, which operates the Ikeja GRA plant, has an installed capacity of 8.8MW and a contracted capacity of 5.8MW, supplying electricity to areas from Ikeja to Oshodi.

Key beneficiaries include Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency, among other critical facilities.

The commissioner added that the Akute Independent Power Plant, now under Fenchurch Power Limited has a contracted capacity of 26MW and is being repositioned as a major energy hub.

Once dormant for about five years, the facility is undergoing rehabilitation and upgrade to supply power to surrounding communities, including the Adiyan Water Works.

On the Island corridor, Viathan Engineering, operators of the Island Power Limited/Peninsula Integrated Power Project, currently manage a combined installed capacity of 21MW—6MW in Lekki and 15MW in Marina.

The project is expected to power vital public infrastructure, including Lagos House, the deputy governor’s residence, and major health institutions such as Lagos Island General Hospital.

The participating firms commended the Sanwo-Olu administration for creating an enabling environment for infrastructure development, noting that the initiative sends a strong signal to investors about Lagos’ readiness to deepen its energy market and attract sustainable investments.

Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has weighed in on the renewed push for the creation of Anioma State. He spoke on Wednesday during a consultation meeting with party stakeholders in Oshimili South Local Government Area, an engagement that also forms part of his political outreach ahead of a possible Senate bid.

At the meeting, Okowa reaffirmed his support for the creation of Anioma State but stressed that the process must reflect the collective will of the people across the nine local government areas of Delta North. While aligning with the broader aspiration, he subtly questioned the approach and motives of Ned Nwoko, who has recently taken a leading role in championing the proposal.

Okowa warned against turning the issue into a political tool, emphasizing that the legitimacy of the demand should come from genuine grassroots consensus rather than individual ambition.

The agitation for Anioma State—strongly backed by Nwoko—stems from longstanding demands by people of Delta North seeking greater administrative autonomy and fairer representation within Nigeria’s federal structure. Supporters argue that a new state would address perceived marginalization, enhance governance, and drive development in the region.

PropertiesRe: House Rent In Lagos Fourth Most Expensive In Africa— Report by AlphaTaikun: 12:59am On Apr 27
Estello:
A new report by Fortren & Company has placed Lagos as the fourth most expensive city in Africa for rental housing, highlighting growing pressure on affordability that is pushing many residents away from central urban areas.
The study, which analysed average rents for two-bedroom apartments across major African cities, ranked Abidjan first, followed by Cape Town and Accra. Lagos came in fourth, ahead of cities such as Douala, Nairobi, Kigali, Dar es Salaam, Cairo, and Casablanca.

In Lagos’ premium neighbourhoods—including Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Banana Island—the average yearly rent for a luxury two-bedroom apartment is estimated at about $19,379 (roughly ₦26.8 million). This is significantly lower than Abidjan’s $41,671, Cape Town’s $27,813, and Accra’s $26,299 for similar properties.

However, analysts warn that although Lagos is fourth on the list, rent inflation in the city is among the fastest on the continent. Over the past two years, residential rents have reportedly surged by 50 to 200 percent, driven by strong demand, limited housing supply, and broader economic pressures.

Housing experts note that affordability has become a major concern, with some estimates showing that renters in Lagos now spend up to 70 percent of their income on housing—far above the 30 percent affordability benchmark recommended internationally.

The rising cost of rent is also reshaping settlement patterns in the city. Many residents are moving from central districts to outer suburbs in search of cheaper accommodation. Yet even in these outlying areas, rents for standard two-bedroom apartments now typically range between ₦1.5 million and ₦2.5 million annually, showing that the pressure is widespread.

Market observers attribute the situation to a mix of factors, including high inflation, expensive construction materials, elevated borrowing costs, and the weakening naira. These conditions have made homeownership more difficult, increasing demand in the rental sector and pushing prices higher.

Another key driver is the pricing structure in high-end areas, where many luxury properties are denominated in US dollars. This practice, analysts say, limits access to a small segment of wealthy Nigerians and expatriates, keeping rents elevated.

Some ultra-luxury apartments in exclusive parts of Ikoyi reportedly command as much as $130,000 per year, underscoring the sharp divide within Lagos’ housing market.

Across Africa, similar trends are visible. Cape Town has seen rent increases of nearly 70 percent since 2014, partly due to rising demand and the growth of short-term rental platforms. In Accra, strong economic activity and expatriate demand—boosted by multinational companies and diplomatic missions—continue to strain limited housing supply.

The report also highlights structural issues affecting rental markets across the continent. In Nigeria and several other African countries, tenants are often required to pay one to two years’ rent upfront, a practice that places heavy financial pressure on households.

Experts argue that this system persists due to weak credit infrastructure and low trust between landlords and tenants, prompting property owners to demand large advance payments as security.

While the housing crisis continues to deepen, analysts say opportunities exist for investors, particularly in developing affordable rental housing such as one- and two-bedroom apartments, which are increasingly in demand in urban centres like Lagos.

However, they caution that without significant policy reforms to expand housing supply, improve financing access, and regulate rental practices, affordability challenges in Lagos are likely to worsen in the coming years.

PoliticsRe: Gbadebo Is Yoruba, Named by My Father – Olawale Rhodes Vivour (GRV’s Father) by AlphaTaikun: 11:24am On Apr 20

That is why most Igbos won't vote for him. I am like Gbadebo for example, I speak fluent Yoruba from primary one to my university, read lots of yoruba novels, speak awori fluently, I can contest an election in my hometown but will never win because most regard me as a Yoruba even though I speak fluent Igbo.

I live abroad and I am allowed to context any elections here though I may not get required votes due to my skin colour.

Not voting for Ghadebo is OK, telling him he cannot context or constantly referring to him as "shinedu" is all shades of wrong. I understand if the uneducated do so but we are the future of our country and should build something better for the future.

The rich and the politicians are friends to each other, only the suffering masses cling to tribalism. If you hate someone from the East or west, it is within your rights to discriminate but blatant tribalism has no profits and not good for anyone.
Bump.

I've just stumbled upon this thread for the FIRST time ever and read your insights right ABOVE. It was infact Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour's cockiness, disrespect and past use of ethnic slurs years ago on X (formerly Twitter) against his supposed Yoruba kinsmen in order to appear politically correct was his major undoing. He even openly supported ip*b in his tweets (and ip*b members are well-known to post hate speeches and disinformation on FB, YouTube, X, WhatsApp, etc, against Yoruba folks and other ethnic groups). He even said "he doesn't think in Yoruba" which was a political and verbal blunder to have made on his part in the heat of election campaigns in a traditional State like Lagos State. He has cockily NOT offered ANY apologies till date and Yorubas can be very unforgiving of people like that.

Contrary to the disinformation online by some people from the East of River Niger, it isn't BECAUSE his mother (Nkechi Rhodes-Vivour) hails from Anambra State that the resentment towards this young man (born on March 8,1983) started. It's because of his tackless past verbal comments and X posts online. The Governor of Osun State, Jackson Adeleke is from Ede in Osun State while his biological mother is from Akwete in Abia State and he was massively voted for by the Osun citizens. It was the events leading to the Nigeria Civil War [from July 1967 to January 1970, lasting exactly 2 years and 6 months] that made the entire Adeleke family then based in Enugu to abruptly leave the East and headed for Ibadan after Col. Emeka Ojukwu ordered ALL non-Easterners to immediately leave the East of Nigeria. It was the former Governor of Osun State, the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke who granted a Punch newspaper interview shortly before his sudden death and that's how I got to know more about his Ede in Osun State paternal and Akwete in Abia State maternal ancestries. Same thing too with the young man David Adeleke (Davido's) father who is a PhD holder and is well-loved for setting up a University in Ede and for his philanthropy.

Last BUT NOT least, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (born on March 8, 1983) has a younger sister named Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi (born in 1987) who is a lawyer and the current Head of the highly effective Lagos State agency on Domestic Violence (DSVA). She's brilliant, got TACT and very well-spoken in all her comments on radio, YouTube and TV channels and she has BETTER electoral value to Lagos State and Nigeria than her brash older brother and folks would vote for her because she isn't TACTLESS like her brother. Her other names are Nkechi just like her biological mother and Titilola even told Jimi Disu of NigeriaInfo 99.3 located in V/Island (which I listen to online) that she speaks fluent Yoruba, so how did Gbadebo even end up saying among other blunders that "he doesn't think in Yoruba?"

Right BELOW is an update to the post I made on Page 2 in response to your post on Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi (born in 1987) of Lagos State's DSVA. I've just found out after further online background checks that Titilola's biological father is NOT the Supreme Court Justice 'Bode Rhodes-Vivour whose wife (Mrs. Adedoyin Rhodes-Vivour) and daughter were kidnapped in 2013 on the Benin-Ore highway.

The name of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour's (born on March 8,1983) biological father is Barrister Olawale Rhodes-Vivour and his wife is "Nkechi" who he got married to in Port Harcourt in 1982 as revealed in an early 2025 video interview. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi (born in 1987) also has "Nkechi" as her other name as seen in her resume. Therefore, I assume you are indeed correct that Titilola is Gbadebo's younger sister. I appreciate your insights on Page 1 as the very brilliant and articulate Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi's direct paternal ancestry is much clearer to me now.

Further reading:
The biological father of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, is Barrister Olawale Rhodes-Vivour.

Family Background: He is part of the prominent Lagos-based Rhodes-Vivour family, known for a long line of legal luminaries.

Grandfather: His grandfather was the late Judge Akinwunmi Rhodes-Vivour.

Heritage: Olawale Rhodes-Vivour has publicly clarified his son’s Yoruba heritage, noting that his son's name was given by his grandfather in line with Yoruba tradition.

Olawale Rhodes-Vivour is a respected figure and often speaks on his son's behalf regarding the family's deep roots in Lagos state.

The real reason China grows vertically instead of horizontally.

If you fly over any major Chinese city, the view is unmistakable: a repetitive, vertical forest of concrete. But why did China choose this extreme high-density model instead of the sprawling suburbs seen in the West?

In the second episode of our "Built on Land" series, we go beyond the skyscrapers to uncover the hidden constraints that forced China to grow vertically. From the " 120 million hectares " farmland red line to the unique institutional framework of state-owned land, we explore how resource scarcity and financial necessity created the most rapid urban transformation in human history.

In this video, we cover:
• The Food Security Trap: Why China’s 12% arable land dictates its urban height.

• The Ultimate Landlord: How state ownership of land creates a supply monopoly.

• The Math of Density: Why high-rise apartments are a financial necessity for developers.

• The Future of the Vertical Model: What happens when the growth engine slows down?

Titopeblog:
In Lagos, indigeneship is often determined by ancestral connection. That is, if your father was born and buried in Lagos, you are a bona fide "son of the soil."

Dr. Hamzat was born on Lagos Island on September 19, 1964. His late father, Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat, was a prominent Lagos politician who was originally from Ogun State, while his mother is an indigene of Lagos from the Epe division.

His critics argue this still disqualifies him from contesting for the highest office in Lagos, and their position is straightforward: Lagos indigeneship passes through blood and soil, and his father's soil is not Lagos.

His supporters argue the opposite. Since entering Lagos politics in 2005, Dr. Hamzat has served as Commissioner for Science and Technology under two administrations and Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure—overseeing the completion of the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge and the Lekki-Epe Expressway—and is currently serving as Deputy Governor for his eighth consecutive year. Their argument is also simple: he has sacrificed many years for Lagos, and that makes him an indigene.

In addition to this complexity, Dr. Hamzat is also a U.S. citizen, which means he possesses dual citizenship: Nigeria and the USA. In 2023, he was in court over claims that to obtain his U.S. citizenship, he had renounced his Nigerian citizenship. The court ruled in his favor after evidence proved he holds his U.S. citizenship without having renounced his Nigerian nationality.

The question his candidacy forces Lagos State to answer is: "Can contribution make one an indigene? Or is blood the only currency that counts?"
https://www.titopeblog.com/2026/04/is-dr-hamzar-truly-lagos-by-blood-or.html?m=1
If Obafemi Hamzat's mother is from the town of Epe in Lagos State, then he can contest for the Governorship of Lagos State. After all, Akinwunmi Ambode's father hailed from a royal family in Ilajeland in Ondo State and had to be buried there according to royal customs of the Ilaje-Yoruba people despite having lived and worked in Epe as an academic.

Besides, Obafemi Hamzat's father (ObaMufutau Olatunji Hamzat) was the Lagos State Commissioner of Works (under Governor Abdulateef Jakande of the Unity Party of Nigeria [UPN]. Jakande was infact born on Lagos Island BUT with both his parents hailing from the Yoruba town of Omu Aran in Kwara State) who oversaw the Lagos Metroline project which the Airforce officer and Military Governor of Lagos State from 1984 to 1985, Gbolahan Mudashiru said in a media interview which I read back in 1986 that he personally terminated the project in order to reaward the construction of the Metroline which got twarted by the Ibrahim Babangida-led military coup of August 1985.

Are you sure Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi is Gbadebo's biological sister? I want to assume that it was Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi of the DSVA who was kidnapped alongside her mother (Mrs. Adedoyin Rhodes-Vivour) while traveling through Edo State a few years ago (and her mother isn't Gbadebo's Anambra-born biological mother).

Indeed, I totally agree with you about Titilola having more electoral value than Gbadebo. Titilola has got a great diction, well-spoken (while on radio, YouTube and TV) and she told Jimi Disu that she speaks fluent Yoruba unlike Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour who said "he doesn't think in Yoruba" in the heat of campaigns which was one of the terrible social blunders for him to have made in the media while vying for the Governorship in a traditional state such as Lagos State.

Based on reports from May 2013, the wife and daughter of Supreme Court Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour were kidnapped in Edo State.
Key details of this incident include:

Victims: Mrs. Adedoyin Rhodes-Vivour, her daughter, and their driver were abducted.

Location/Date: The kidnapping occurred on May 10, 2013, along the Benin-Ore road in Edo State.

Search and Rescue: Security agencies launched a massive search, with operations extending to forests in Ondo and Ekiti states.
Suspects: The State Security Service (SSS) later paraded suspects involved in the kidnapping.

Outcome: Reports indicated that after ransom negotiations, the victims were released

Foreign AffairsRe: Trump Orders Probe Into Missing US Scientists by AlphaTaikun: 11:53pm On Apr 19
NationalNewsNG:
Donald Trump has directed a federal investigation into the deaths and disappearances of at least 10 American scientists linked to sensitive aerospace, defence, and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) programmes.

The directive was issued after intelligence briefings earlier in the week raised concerns about a possible pattern among the incidents, some of which date back to mid-2023.

Officials say the review will examine scientists working in high-level institutions, including NASA and defence-linked laboratories.

Among the reported cases is physicist Michael David Hicks, who worked at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and died in July 2023 under undisclosed circumstances.
