I would love to read that book by Peter Nzeogwu to gain different perspectives on localized history of the Okpanam folks. Just like Asaba, Illah, Ebu (Agatha Amata of the "Inside Out" fame hails from Ebu), Onitsha, etc, Okpanam is one of the Igala-associated communities in Delta, Anambra, and Enugu States.

naptu2: He already had a doctorate degree in criminology before he became chief of army staff.
Thanks for the insights Naptu2.
That's really mad cool. I never knew that he's such a cerebral man.
Criminology and Strategic Studies are two different fields of study. I suppose like you said, he had a doctorate degree in Criminology before he had the one in Strategic Studies. Both fields are great fields of study though as they deal with security, covert intelligence gathering and global geopolitical dynamics.
umarnuhu1900: In London, prosecutors say Diezani Alison-Madueke was handed “a life of luxury” by oil barons: millions at Harrods, museum-grade furniture, and renovated townhouses in return for favourable treatment in Nigeria’s oil sector. The opening witnesses at Southwark Crown Court have produced those vivid images—but they have also produced something else: a consistent pattern in which the money, contracts, and legal ownership sit with the men around her, above all Kola Aluko, while Alison-Madueke appears as a user, adviser, or mediator, not the paymaster or owner the prosecution wants the jury to imagine.
What the First Three Witnesses Actually Showed
Harrods private-client manager Amina Hamila was called to dramatise the spending. She confirmed that more than £2m was run up on “Madam Diezani’s” account and that the minister enjoyed Black-Tier status and a personal shopper. Harrods’ own records, however, showed those purchases being charged to cards held by Kola Aluko, his company Tenka and, later, other businessmen—not to any card in Alison-Madueke’s name.
Under cross-examination, Hamila accepted that the minister never physically produced a payment card and that internal systems treated Aluko as the paying client. When defence lawyers matched large transactions to passport stamps, some of the spending tagged to her Harrods profile turned out to have been made while she was out of the UK. The headline remains the same—£2m at Harrods—but the identity of the person actually footing the bill does not.
The second witness, Monica Glerean of Mayfair gallery Vincenzo Caffarella, agreed the minister had “good knowledge of furniture,” was “an architect,” and often advised Aluko on what would look good in his house.
But again, the money trail ran in the opposite direction. Over £370,000 in invoices—including a £40,320 order made out to “Sheldon D of St John’s Wood” and a later £63,840 purchase—were all settled on Aluko’s credit cards; Glerean never saw Alison-Madueke hand over money. She also confirmed that Aluko came without the minister on several occasions and spent more than £300,000 on his own account. The pattern from Harrods repeats itself: the minister chooses, the billionaire pays.
The third witness, contractor Tony Mulcahy of Bear Rock Construction, was supposed to lock in the property side of the story. His testimony did the opposite. He told the court his firm carried out multi-million-pound refurbishments at 39 Chester Close North and at a Harley House flat, but said clearly that his client was Kola Aluko: it was Aluko who found Bear Rock, gave instructions, and received every invoice. Mulcahy described installing a lift at Chester Close North because he was told the intended occupant would be Alison-
Madueke’s elderly mother and that the top floor was for the minister’s son. Subsequent accounts record him acknowledging that Aluko’s story about the “invalid” mother was not true and that he had been misled about who would actually live there—undercutting one of the prosecution’s most emotive images.
On the finances, Mulcahy painted a harsh picture. He described arrears that left Bear Rock “on the brink” by late 2013. Unpaid bills for works commissioned by Aluko ultimately pushed his company into voluntary liquidation. Against that backdrop, his description of Alison- Madueke stands out.
He recalled meeting her on site to review samples and later said that, as the dispute dragged on, she tried to assist him by bringing in her lawyer, Donald Amamgbo, to go through the accounts and help him recover what he was owed from Aluko. That is not the behaviour of a hidden owner refusing to pay; it is the behaviour of someone caught between an aggrieved contractor and a wealthy associate, intervening on the contractor’s side.
Taken together, the three witnesses were meant to show that Diezani Alison-Madueke was the hidden centre of a bribery web. What they actually show is something narrower: that she moved inside a circle of enormous male wealth in which other people’s cards paid at the till, other people’s companies signed the contracts, and other people’s stories justified the spending—while she sometimes stepped in to mediate when those arrangements collapsed. https://leaders.ng/2026/02/06/a-story-that-no-longer-holds-shape-case-of-diezani-alison-madueke-by-boluxxxx/
That's NOT Diezani Agama (formerly Madueke before her divorce) in the ATTACHED picture.

SlavaUkraini: President Bola Tinubu met with Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara, on Thursday at the State House, Abuja, over terrorist attack in the state.
On Wednesday, at least 75 residents were killed, with several houses set ablaze, when terrorists attacked the Nuku and Woro communities in the Kaiama LGA of Kwara state.
Rauf Ajakaye, chief press secretary to the Kwara governor, told TheCable that the victims, who were moderate Muslims, were killed for “refusing to surrender to extremists who preached a strange doctrine”.
Tinubu subsequently ordered the deployment of an army battalion to the LGA.
ariesbull: If Yoruba can claim Ogiri is a Yoruba word ...
A tribe that Hausa named Yaribas and later it evolved to Yoruba and Yoruba doesn't even have any meaning in Yoruba language
Tomorrow you will claim Ugu, Onugbu Ugba Abacha Akpu Odogwu
Are all Yoruba words....
What's the meaning of Yoruba let's even start with that !
FIRST off, let's be very CLEAR here, contrary to your post, the Yorubas are NOT a "tribe" but an ETHNIC group with a population of over 70 million strong located in major population centers worldwide. They are indigenous to Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, and Yoruba descendants have been in Ghana for over 500 years engaging in long-distance trading via the Oyo Empire to the Accra region and the Ashanti Empire.
Incidentally, I understand and speak Hausa and NO modern Hausa person calls Yorubas by that name "Yari.ba" contrary to the misleading information you posted... NON! That name "Yari.ba" is a misleading European rendition by explorers, missionaries, etc, of different spellings such as "Yarr.iba or Yeri.ba" in their books. The standard Hausa spelling for Yoruba folks is "Yar.bawa." Hausa names usually end with "WA" such as "Kanawa" for people from Kano. The spelling "Yoruba" was historically coined by Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther, a renowned multilinguist and Anglican clergyman. It was Ajayi Crowther who standardized that spelling YORUBA which is derived from OYO OBA to refer to the Oyo Empire and Oyo people who are a subgroup of the Yorubas. That spelling was used in all his official publications as of 1843. Yoruba is the name for Oyo folks (Oyo Oba or Oyo is King) referencing the foremost ascendancy of the Oyo Empire among the larger Yoruba people. That name Yoruba was then extended to refer to ALL the subgroups with ancestral links in the Yoruba Country. There is a video documentary online that explains in a sequential historical timeline how Ajayi Crowther coined the name Yoruba in the early 1800s. The English people are made up of 3 Germanic tribes called Angles, Saxons, and Jutes. They were fused together and collectively called English (or Anglo-Saxons) with English being derived from one of the Germanic tribes called the ANGLES. The Oyos, the Ondos, Ijesas, Ibolos, Egbas, Ibadans, Ekitis, Ilajes, Ijebus of Lagos and Ogun States, Usen and other Yorubas of Ife (Ufe origins) of (Ovia South West LGA of Edo State), Okuns of Kogi, Ekos and Aworis of Lagos and Ogun States, Akokos, Ejigbos, Owus, etc, are all collectively called Yoruba as of today. YORUBA simply refered ORIGINALLY to the OYO people, BUT it now refers to many of the other subgroups in the Yoruba country such as the Ekitis, Aworis, Ilajes, Ijebus, Akokos, etc, so it is totally disingenuous for you to FALSELY claim on an open with your full chest that Yoruba has no meaning. You can do BETTER.
I didn't want to respond to parts of your post because what I posted some months ago on this thread which you are quoting here is self-explanatory. Just to be CLEAR, the Yorubas of Kogi and the Igalas are close neighbors and are ancestrally related as told by Attah Michael Ameh Oboni with Igala being a fusion of people of different ethnic groups. So, it's NOT strange that you have 65% of Yoruba-derived words in Igala while the remaining 35% of Igala words are largely of Idoma origins. The former American lecturer of the University of Nigeria Nsukka named Shelby wrote in his book entitled, "Ibo-Igala Borderlands" that as far back as the early 1700s, Yorubas and their Igala hunter friends were already hunting in the forests of Nsukka and the Igalas learned divination and the art of charms from the Yoruba and vice versa.
Fourth, "Ewe Woroko" or "Eweroko" is the well-known Yoruba name for fluted pumpkin leaves used for centuries to make vegetable soup by the Yorubas, which the Ibos call "ugu." The Hausas, Efiks and Ibibios have their own indigenous names for the fluted punpkin leaves as well which I CLEARLY stated on this same thread.
NO Yoruba person will ever claim those Ibo words you wrote up there with the exception of "Oloriogun" (or Ologun) which is called "Odogwu" which practically mean the same thing... (Head or leader of Warriors). Just so you know, PURE Yoruba words in Igala language such as "Ogun" meaning War in Yoruba is spelled dialectically as Ogwu in Igala, Ogun is Medicine in Yoruba is spelled as Ogwu in Igala, Ogun Deity in Yoruba language is spelled as Ogwu as well based on dialectic and diacritical marks, "Egungun" for masquerade in Yoruba is spelled as Egwugwu in Igala, "Ewa" for beans in Yoruba is spelled as Egwa in Igala, "Omi" for water in Yoruba is spelled as Omi in Igala, "Ogede" for plantain in Yoruba is spelled as Ogede as well in Igala, "Omo and Oma" in Yoruba is spelled as Oma in Igala, "Ifa" divination in Yoruba is spelled as Ifa in Igala [which the Ibos of Nri and contiguous areas influenced by the Igalas corrupted to "Afa"]. Iba for fever in Yoruba is spelled as Iba in Igala, "Osu" for month in Yoruba is spelled as Ochu in Igala, Ise in Yoruba for work is spelled as Uche in IgalaI've seen Ibo folks online from Imo and Abia States who strongly affirm that "Odinani" is the original Ibo traditional religion NOT "Afa" which Anambra communities such as Nri and co [which have Igala influences via ERI the Igala Prince and son of Achado] like to claim as the indigenous religion. This goes to show that Ifa (corrupted to Afa) is NOT indigenous to Nri but was brought from from Yorubaland via Igala due to the Igala connection with Anambra, Enugu and Delta North in the last 500 years. The red chieftaincy cap too is NOT indigenous to the Ibos, BUT it was FIRST introduced into the Nsukka area within the last 500 years by the Igalas whose conquest and settlement of what is now called Northern Iboland in Enugu and Anambra States included Nsukka.
Some noticeable Yoruba words and Yoruba-derived words in Igala have found their ways into the Ibo lexicon. Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther who is a trained linguist and Anglican clergy man was the FIRST EVER person [using the foundations of his work in creating the Yoruba language alphabet, Yoruba bible and Yoruba-English Dictionary as of 1843] to write a book in Ibo language entitled, "Isuama Ibo: A Primer" in the late 1800s. This highly respected Yoruba man [named Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther is a direct descendant of Alaafin Abiodun, the Emperor of the Oyo Empire who reigned in the late 1700s], wrote the same language books for Igala and Nupe languages. Samuel Ajayi Crowther lived in Onitsha as a missionary and could speak the Onitsha Ibo dialect. Brilliant linguists and missionaries such as Ajayi Crowther had to be proficient in multiple languages for their missionary activities.
The FACT remains that 65% of Igala words are derived from the Yoruba language due to the fusion of Yoruba bloodlines in Igala ancestry (Igalas have part Yoruba ancestries) as confirmed by the Attah of Igala, Michael Ameh Oboni in a 2017 Sunday Punch newspaper interview. This is why Igala language is classified officially by linguists as a Yoruboid language. There's NO doubt that the influence of the Igalas who are indigenous to parts of Anambra, Enugu, Delta North, and Kogi (including several states in the Middle Belt) led to the inflow of these Yoruba words into modern Ibo lexicon as LOAN words via the Anambra/Igala border lands.Yoruba words such as "Ewure" for goat which is Ewu, "Enu" for mouth which is Onu, "Okuta" for rock or stone which is spelled Okwute in Ibo, "Egungun" for masquerade in Yoruba is spelled as Egwugwu in Igala and Ibo. "Olukumi" or Oluku is an Yoruba word meaning my confidant/protector which is disingenuously corrupted to "Onuku" by the Ibos to refer to the Igalas.
The amount of LOAN WORDS derived from Yoruba language in Ibo language lexicon isn't more than 2%, BUT in Igala language 65% of Yoruba language are in Igala with 35% of Idoma words embedded in Igala language as well.
Last but NOT least, I have seen works of scholars and linguists of Ibo origin online who CLEARLY affirm that Yoruba words such as Akara, Egusi (corrupted to Egwusi by Ibos as a LOAN WORD), Agidi, Moyin-Moyin (which has been bastardized to "mai mai" by Ibos), Elubo (corrupted to alibo by Ibos) etymologically are derived from Yoruba language as LOAN words. The "Longman Ibo-English Dictionary" published many decades ago by an Ibo scholar and a European scholar CLEARLY states that "Egwusi" is a LOAN word derived by the Ibos from the Yorubas (YOR) who spell it as Egusi. Elili is the actual Ibo word for Egusi. I also read that different parts of Ibo have different names for the same thing. The original spelling of "Moyin-Moyin" alternatively shortened to "Moin-Moin" with the letter "Y" removed in recent history is simultaneously called "Olele" which are both Yoruba words emphasizing the "stickiness" of the beans pudding. The Yoruba name for Walnut is both called "Asala" and "Ausa" depending on regional variations in Yorubaland. "Ugbo" and "Igbo," mean forest or bush in Yoruba. "Ule and "Ile" mean land in Yoruba. Oma and Omo mean child or indigene in Yoruba language.
Goo0dHardDick: Before you rent a new place, take time to understand the source of income of the landlord. Many landlords don’t have any active source of income aside from the house you’re about to rent. To survive, they depend entirely on tenants for their livelihood. This often leads to frequent rent increases, unnecessary billings, and constant financial demands that can frustrate your peace of mind.
Choosing a landlord who has other income streams can make a huge difference in your rental experience. A landlord who isn’t desperate for the property’s income is more likely to respect agreements, maintain the property properly, and avoid making tenants the financial pillar of their personal life.
This isn’t just about finding shelter; it’s about securing your peace, stability, and sanity in a place you’ll call home.
ogododo: Dangote Refinery has outlined its fuel production and distribution operations, warning that reliance on coastal logistics could significantly increase petrol prices if the additional costs are transferred to consumers.
In a statement on its official X account on Thursday titled “Six things to know about Dangote Refinery fuel production and distribution”, the company said its refinery operates a world-class gantry facility with 91 loading bays, capable of handling up to 2,900 tankers daily and evacuating over 50 million litres of petrol and 14 million litres of diesel through continuous 24-hour operations.
Dangote noted that gantry loading, which it described as the most cost-efficient evacuation method, helps eliminate port charges, maritime levies, and vessel-related expenses that do not benefit end users.
The firm said, “Gantry loading is identified as the most cost-efficient evacuation method, as it eliminates port charges, maritime levies and vessel-related costs that do not benefit end users.”
The refinery also emphasised that marketers are free to choose between gantry and coastal loading, adding that the company does not impose restrictions on evacuation modes. However, it warned that coastal logistics could add about N75 per litre to petrol costs, potentially pushing pump prices close to N1,000 per litre if passed on to consumers.
“Marketers are free to choose between gantry and coastal loading, and the refinery does not impose restrictions on evacuation modes. Coastal logistics can add about N75 per litre to petrol costs, potentially pushing PMS pump prices close to N1,000 per litre if passed on to consumers,” it said.
Dangote Refinery added that Nigeria’s daily consumption averages “about 50 million litres of PMS and 14 million litres of diesel,” noting that reliance on coastal logistics could impose “an additional annual cost of approximately N1.752 trillion.”
Highlighting the impact of local refining, the firm said, “Local refining has significantly reduced fuel prices, with diesel falling from about N1,700 to N980–N990 per litre, and PMS dropping from around N1,250 to N839–N900 per litre, while also easing FX pressure and supporting naira stability.” https://punchng.com/coastal-logistics-may-push-pms-near-n1000-litre-dangote-refinery-warns/
treasure2: Stabbed 20-year-old UK based Nigerian student dies in hospital
Wale Elegbede
A 20-year-old United Kingdom based Nigerian student, Khaleed Oladipo, has died in the hospital after he was stabbed on Tuesday in Oxford Street, Leicester, police said.
Oladipo, a cyber security student at De Montfort University was fatally stabbed in the chest close to the university campus.
The Leicestershire Police said an 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of his murder and remains in police custody while extensive inquiries are being carried out.
The deceased, who was living in Leicester but was from London, was in his second year at DMU. A post-mortem examination has been carried out and found that Oladipo died as a result of a stab wound to the chest.
Police said it was called to reports a man had collapsed in Oxford Street, close to the junction with Bonners Lane, just after 17:00 GMT on Tuesday.
Several roads were closed after the stabbing including Infirmary Road, Oxford Street, Infirmary Square, Carlton Street, York Road, Lower Brown Street, The Gateway and Gosling Street.
Four ambulances and an air ambulance scrambled to the city centre and Khaleed was rushed to hospital, but he sadly died a short time later.
In a tribute, his devastated family described him as an “extremely loved” boy.
His family thanked the members of the public who stopped to try and help Oladipo, and paid tribute to the ambulance service and hospital staff.
They said they believed the Arsenal supporter was going home to watch his side play when it happened.
“Khaleed was a good boy who loved his family. He was in his second year at university, and we were so proud of him.
naptu2: There are many dams in the south-west that were conceived in the late 1970s and early 1980s and they have the potential to generate electricity, but most of them have been abandoned. These include:
Ikere Gorge Dam (Oyo)
Oyan Dam (Ogun)
Ogbese Dam (Ekiti)
True that.
If these dams are strategically positioned, they would be able to provide all-year round irrigation for agriculture and that would crash the price of food. Those who governed Nigeria in the past especially the military dictatorship of IBB, Abacha and even OBJ as a civilian President did Nigeria dirty by abandoning the completion of Ikere Gorge dam.
It was part of former President Shehu Shagari's plan as of 1981 to ensure that Ikere Gorge dam provided drinkable water to as far as Lagos State.
naptu2: FG CONCESSIONS IKERE GORGE DAM IN OYO STATE FOR HYDROPOWER GENERATION
The Federal Government has officially handed over the 6MW Ikere Gorge Hydropower Plant, located in Iseyin, to Messrs Quaint Power and Infrastructure Nigeria under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) concession arrangement in Oyo State.
The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation Prof. Joseph Utsev and Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu performed the handover ceremony.
The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, described the concession as a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s drive to bridge infrastructure financing gaps and enhance sustainable power generation through private sector participation.
Prof Utsev commended the vision behind the establishment of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), noting its critical role in ensuring transparency, value for money, and efficiency in PPP-driven infrastructure development, emphasized the importance of leveraging private sector expertise and capital to complement public investments.
He noted that the Ikere Gorge Hydropower Plant is the product of a long-standing collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation and the Federal Ministry of Power, dating back to 2012, aimed at harnessing Nigeria’s hydropower potential
The Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to private sector-driven growth in the power sector, describing the handover as a new chapter in sustainable energy development.
He noted that the Ikere Gorge Dam, initially developed for water supply and irrigation, is now being repositioned as a strategic asset for clean and renewable energy generation.
Whoa! I logged on to NL for the FIRST time today after a busy schedule and one of the first three headlines I saw on the NL frontpage is the Ikere Gorge Dam in Oyo State which the former President Shehu Shagari started back in 1981 but it hasn't been completed till date.
Those Military dictatorships totally abandoned it and I remember reading decades back that the the brand new turbines which were brought in from Germany had become damaged through rust over the years.
I'm highly impressed that the FG under President 'Bola Tinubu is finally tackling this highly embarrassing hydro dam non-completion since 1981, through the PPP format of concessioning, so, that electricity, portable drinking water from the dam to Lagos and contiguous States, and irrigation for all-year round agriculture by farmers in the South West can take place.
Just as I stated about the non-completion of the Ikere Gorge dam here on NL in 2025, it's a big SHAME on former President Olusegun Obasanjo that he couldn't finish the Ikere Gorge dam in his 8 years in office despite his allegedly being from the South West region of Nigeria. That dam is a low-hanging fruit and I suggested that if 'Bola Tinubu can find a way to make that dam work for the benefit of Nigeria, then he'll be writing his name in the sands of time. NOW he's doing something through Adelabu. Kudos to them all.
United States President Donald Trump has acknowledged the presence of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the 74th National Prayer Breakfast held in Washington, D.C.
Speaking during the event on Thursday, Trump drew attention to Mrs Tinubu in the audience, describing her as a respected figure and highlighting her role as a Christian pastor in one of the largest churches in Nigeria.
“We are honoured to be joined today by the First Lady of Nigeria, who also happens to serve as a Christian pastor at one of the largest churches. A very respected woman,” Trump said.
Addressing her directly, the US president added: “First Lady, where are you? Thank you very much. It is a great honour to have you with us.”
Things are gearing up pretty fast in terms of global geopolitics to the consternation of those who are totally clueless, have self-hatred for themselves and Nigeria on the Motherland.

"Challenge Zero" with the RED flag on a long poleas seen in the video marks the spot or intersection where Ondo State and Ogun State meet along the cleared section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
There's NO doubt that the irresponsible person(s) who created that doctored video of Adams Oshiomole massaging the SA girl's foot on that private jet is (are) from Nigeria and it was done with the intent to maliciously tarnish his image. The video is definitely a deep fake video because Adams Oshiomole's face didn't show any expressions and he couldn't have dressed like a labor union comrade in brown khaki to have an outing with a girlfriend. Oshiomole CANNOT be that tacky as to wear brown khaki on a date.
A lot of people online and on NL are terrible haters of others, highly impressionable and GULLIBLE. They have lost the ability to analyse videos and images critically.
The moment I saw that trashy video yesterday, I knew instantly that it was a FAKE or doctored.
Let me say here and now, the world is already under seige from photoshopped images and now from deep fakes or AI-generated images. Right now, Americans are complaining about deep fakes showing exact images of Martin Luther-King and other dead people who passed on decades ago still alive as of 2025. That's a grand distortion of history.
The intelligence agencies MUST take down the person(s) who created this fake video of Oshiomole and ensure they are charged to court and duly punished.
Pakute: The Presidency has fired back at opposition politicians, especially the African Democratic Congress, ADC, after a global report named Lagos the world’s fastest-growing emerging tech ecosystem.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, celebrated the news on his verified X handle (@aonanuga1956), taking a direct swipe at critics.
“ADC must not read this,” he posted, warning that “desperate politicians, always on the lookout for negative statistics, will be unhappy that Tinubu’s Nigeria has recorded a global tech recognition.”
The ranking comes from Global Statistics’ list of the top 20 fastest-growing emerging technology ecosystems worldwide. Lagos claimed the number one spot, surpassing cities like Istanbul (Türkiye), Pune and Mumbai (India), and Belo Horizonte (Brazil) across Asia, Africa, and South America.
Onanuga positioned the accolade as a sharp rebuttal to what he called the opposition’s “persistent negative narratives” on Nigeria’s economy and governance.
The ADC has been vocal in criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly on economic reforms.
