Lagos State did NOT bow to any pressure. This is pure sensationalism on the part of the journalist and the newspaper editor.

Tbh, that place isn't conducive for human habitation. After watching series of drone shots and videos of the shanties and polluted lagoon water around that place, it's important to NOT only demolish the illegal structures recently constructed close to the dangerous high tension power lines, it's important to bring the entire settlement down! I noticed that the schools located on the lagoon water also used French as a language of instruction in some videos and articles I read, so, it's very obvious that a lot of those living there are NOT from Nigeria but from Benin Republic and Togo.

Residents do all their toilet activities right inside the water and their is high child mortality rate there. There's also allegedly the biggest seafood market in that area and you can imagine the source of a lot of the acquatic foods on sale. The so-called NGOs collecting money from their sponsors abroad are the real enemies of those Makoko people and Lagos in general by launching propaganda campaigns against the government. Lagos State just announced a plan to redevelop that area. If people are going to live on top of the lagoon, it MUST be properly spaced out like Ganvie settle in Benin Republic.

Benin Republic has a beautiful water settlement that international tourists visit regularly called Ganvie which is well-planned and it's the real Venice of Africa.

'Fela before his "political activisms" started.

I appreciate the article link you added to this thread "on the lost music works" and the video throwback to the 1950s scene with Fela Special (1954-1966).

"Fela Ransome-Kuti & The Highlife Rakers - Fela's Special" truly evokes an "out of the body" experience for me. I'll have to get a full body of his works from the 1950s as well if available.

Second, I once watched an interview where the legendary Orlando Julius Ekemode (who was married to an African-American and passed on a few years ago) strongly affirmed that he is the creator of the name "Afrobeat" and NOT 'Fela
. He also gave extra layers of information on how the legendary James Brown visited Ibadan in Nigeria in the 1960s where Orlando Julius Ekemode said he and 'Fela played alongside James Brown.

The popular James Brown song "I Feel Good" is in reality a sample of Orlando Julius Ekemode's original song... "Ijo Soul" from the 1960s. Another song of Orlando Julius was sampled and it won a Grammy Award in 1981 for the American guy who sampled it.

Nairaland GeneralRe: No Citizen Of Nigeria Is Supposed To Be Taxed by AlphaTaikun: 12:20am On Feb 04
Felicity0001:
Many of you will say what is this man saying, now read.

In a circle of 10 country men, we were all asked to mention benefits derived from their government.

United Kingdom
USA
Canada
Australia
Germany
Netherland
Swizerland
UAE
...
...
Nigeria

Most/all of them mentioned over 5 major things their government does for them so they're very much happy to pay their taxes.

1. A child born in any of these countries starting from day 1 is on the government payroll including standard free education from 6yrs to 18.
2. Electricity
3. Portable water
4. Health care and hospitality
5. Security
6. Job security
7. Roads and infrastructural development
Let me stop here...

What can an average Nigerian boost of? The subsidy an average Nigerian was benefitting has been removed since 2023.

Our Health care system is zero, look at Nanyah she died of ordinary snake bite, she fought for her life with over 2 hospital, non of them have anti venom, how shameful.

We provide our own security, look at the rate of killings in the country, even your own security can't guarantee your safety.

Our roads are death traps, it was God that saved Anthony Joshua in December.

Power absolutely nothing.

Our educational system is a total failure, ASSUU goes on strike just for selfish interest, nothing more.

We all know the level of decay the country is so I won't stress myself saying much.

Nigeria has over 44 natural resources from coal, iron ore, gold, limestone, bitumen, gypsum, kaolin, bauxite, lead, zinc, columbite, uranium, manganese, and various gemstones (sapphire, topaz, emeralds) only to mention a fuel...

With all of these natural resources, what does an Nigeria citizen benefitting from its government? Our Cocoa and cruise alone is enough to build this country, provide jobs and do other things.

United Kingdom doesn't have any reasonable natural resources, they survive mainly on taxation and royalty from around the world as they're likened to mother of the world. So citizenry can be taxed. But we has Nigerian, what can our government boost of giving us to make us taxable?
Road, healthcare, security, electricity, or jobs...? I can't point a single thing
NOT paying tax in any country is an offence.
Nigeria is not different. With the newly introduced harmonized taxes starting from 2026, you have a fairer deal than BEFORE when multiple taxes existed.

Paying taxes and monitoring how it's spent is important herd. Period.

I watched the Wode Maya interview where he talked about it. Now, it's still disingenuous to expect that the authorities will be told about it. Why? Who is ishowspeed? He's a bloody blogger. Yes, he streams online and is the most popular and earns the most, I don't put it to him to promote anything. For instance, I hear them talking about Peller, Peller wey no go school go understand the tourism strategy. See, it's not about planning for a special welcome and curating your story. Like Wode said, these streamers thrive on action, not organisation and for his demography, they love ACTION. What the state should do and the government too is put things in place for whoever comes in. He is a young man. Not every country welcomed him, Ethiopia did but in a different way and they did not involve any celebrities but again, the young man said he wanted authentic experience, not curated ones. In the other thread where I commented, I highlighted that other people have come into Lagos or Nigeria, there's no big deal about this young man. The only difference is the hype and buzz.

The streamer has some statistics to keep up otherwise his stream count will go down. He didn't meet with Peller because as the analyst said, they belong to different streaming platforms so he wouldn't promote it. See we don't need to script everything, Nigeria alone is enough content but for the officials to sit down there and wait for people to come to the and then inform them, they are not ready yet. They say they were not informed but Peller already knew the young man was coming? I laugh in Isalẹ Eko. If every visitor has to inform you that we are coming to your country, then you have a lot of work to do more than North Korea. Tourism is not by force and through force. You put things in place and it sells itself.
I don't care about the 21-year-old either but what attracted me was the hype and outrage surrounding the physical attack on him on Lagos Island. Then, I saw the highly embarrassing video of that semi-literate boy called Peller [who I hear is just a few months younger than "IShow"] when he was physically prevented from meeting IShow. The B.S. talk online that IShow only wanted to "meet regular" people on the street level is a big LIE! He certainly met with a lot of "influencers" in many of the countries he visited and most definitely he met influencers in Ghana where the organizers originally came from. Even the Ghanaian Tourism Board said they didn't know he was gonna visit as of the time he was presented with a Ghananian passport.

The Ghananian organisers of the Nigerian visit definitely didn't provide a proper ring of protection for the young man and they definitely tried to denigrate Nigeria by allowing him to go to areas of Lagos he shouldn't have been to.

They legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was a great jazz artist and some do NOT know he started off playing jazz music back in the 1960s through to the 1970s and that was reflected in his style of music... Afrobeat.

I have nearly all 'Fela's musical compositions from the 1970s right to the 1990s.

The speed boy said he wanted to experience real people and not meet celebrities but our state officials did not understand the assignment, they said next time they should be informed when someone is coming to the state so they package the experience like they did to Ciara as if citizens of the state don't deserve the same packaging to live a normal life. I was even more dumbfounded when the Arise anchor was insisting that they make it a law that the state must be informed. The joke is on you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoOdpl9WnsU
I'm in total support of the authorities in Lagos being informed. I never knew that 21-year-old African-American until his visit to Morocco and then days later after his supposed visit to Lagos and Abuja. He celebrated his 21st birthday in Lagos Nigeria and his followership hit the milestone of 50,000,000 in Nigeria.

However, the Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya finally confessed that it was Ghananians that organized the whole journey to Africa for the young man and I affirm that it was highly disrespectful to Lagos and Nigeria that the authorities were NOT informed by the Ghanaian organizers so as to provide tighter security and give him a proper your guide of places to visit in order to avoid any potential attacks.

Nearly every city on Earth has major black spots so you have to be aware to avoid those places. In the United States, there are dangerous areas on the South Side of Atlanta, Chicago, in NYC, Detroit, etc, so, you have to be careful or you get mugged or shot at by gangsters. I found it despicable that some people are highly uninformed about the goings on in several countries of the world so these dweebs like putting Nigeria down and begin to engage in baseless grovellings.

Total Box Office Revenue (Nigeria cinemas) — ₦15.64 billion

Lagos alone generated ₦7.94 billion — 50.8% of the national total.

The combined revenue of the next 9 top states (Abuja, Rivers, Edo, Oyo, Delta, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Kwara) is approximately ₦5.90 billion.

Lagos out-earned the next nine contenders combined by over ₦2 billion. If Lagos cinemas were removed, half the industry's revenue would disappear.

The figures of movie goers (or cinema attendances) are indeed a representation of the spread of modern cinemas with multiplex facilities.

I'm aware from a YouTube video I saw a couple of days back that the Ooni of Ife recently launched a luxury hotel with modern cinema facilities for the public in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

There were many cinemas in Nigeria right from the 1930s and rapidly grew in the 1940s to the 1950s due to the investments by a wealthy Syrian businessman in Lagos, Warri, PH, etc, and even the heavyweight boxing star, Anthony Joshua's great grand father built a cinema in their hometown of Sagamu several decades ago before independence.

It's impressive that the rebirth of the cinema-attendance culture kicked off again from the late 2000s after the home video industry (and the ability to purchase Betamax and VHS video players) from the late 1980s, [The FIRST EVER home videos were produced from 1988 by the Yoruba movie sector of the Nigerian movie industry] began to cause a rapid decline in cinema attendances. That's one of the best way to boost the sales of Nigerian movies like the Indians do in their own movie industry headquartered in Mumbai.

I also killed this one recently while inspecting my site. I don't know the English name but we call it 'Ogba' in Yoruba language. This particular snake is very fast and highly venomous. People living near bush or forest need to be very careful and watchful of their surroundings in this dry season.👇
The snake looks big and venomous. Utmost care has to be taken when working on farm sites. The snake skin has a dull greenish color and it could fetch some tidy sums of money if sold to the right source.

What State in the West of Nigeria did you kill this snake?
Science/TechnologyRe: See The Snake My Dad Killed Yesterday In The Night. by AlphaTaikun: 11:09pm On Feb 02
Maxitomxane:
Yesterday around 10pm, My Dad was doing his routine check of the environment to ensure things were in order before going to bed.
He was with a torch when he noticed slight movement close to his feet as he moved, he shone the torch towards the direction(the torch wasn't very bright) and saw a tail behind one of the kegs on the ground beneath one of the windows of my parents room and thought it was a lizard.
Our compound is large, so we keep kegs, bowls and some other stuff behind our house. Our chickens' coup is also behind close to the fence.
As my dad moved to check what it was, the snake suddenly moved rapidly behind other kegs.
When my Dad saw it, he shouted Jesus, who no go shout?? cheesy My mom heard it and was like "what's that"...

My Dad didn't answer, he just swiftly entered the kitchen via the back door and got the cutlass.
The first strike didn't get the snake well, so it tried escaping and slithered towards the chicken coup.
My Dad had to wait for about 30 minutes making sure the snake was in a enclosed area before he stuck it on the head.

He said it took the snake almost 2 hours after he had struck it before it stopped moving completely.
From 12am till this morning, my mom never sleep and she no gree open window cheesy.

Omo, I thank God for his protection, coz imagine my Dad wasn't with a torch or somehow, the snake entered the house, Kai.

I know it's a cobra probably a forest cobra.
Within 30 mins, pesin don kpai. cry

Harmattan season is snake season.
The snakes would seek warmer spots like underneath rocks and close to human environs to keep warm especially during the cool evenings and cold nights.

Let's ensure to check our environment and use a bright torch at night especially.
The snake is indeed big and long. You don't mess with such reptiles especially if you don't have the anti-venom that is specific for that specie of snake. One type of anti-venom will NOT work for treating snake bites from another snake.

According to information gathered, Nanyah reportedly made frantic efforts to save her life after the incident, rushing herself to two different hospitals for urgent medical attention.

However, she was said to have been turned away or left untreated due to the unavailability of anti-venom at the facilities she visited.

Report indicate that she did everything she could to survive. She went to more than one hospital, but there was no anti-venom.
