As a grad, av bn in d job search 4 a while now, infact I wrote d NBC test @ jkk, I wud like u to share ur experience wt me as regrds d job huntn what r d things u think one must do to be where u currently are?

you are very right. everything is God's mercy. I am glad you are a Christian and I'd throw two scenarios to you to judge, so you can be sure you are not speaking from your own limited understanding o how things work in life.

First, the story of King Hezekiah: I ma sure you know he was asked to prepare for his death. he could have given up and said "Oh God has chosen to have me dead". He didn't, he went to seek God's face. That's questioning the order of things. that's bravery, that's thinking outside the box. I am sure if he didn't ask, God wouldn't have spared his life. So is our God wicked? Not at all. Some people need to work out their miracle with actions.

Second, my story with Halliburton.

I did Halliburton test in Lagos in 2013, made it to the second batch of interview. If oyu are familiar with Halliburton recruitment, you'd know they call you on phone when they have nay thing to tell you. after about 5 months, I got a call but I couldn't pick or return the call the call immediately. I was busy with work and my boss was just beside me al through that day. Moreover, I was i supposed to know it was urgent, and that it was halliburton? it was just a regular number and i felt I could just call back at night.

I got home that night and called back the line. it was them, the call I have been waiting for. the manager who called asked me to see him at the airport the following day at 5:30 am. When i met him , he said , all i do is pray for an opening to happen, that he had recruited just then when he was calling me. He said, if only I had picked my call it could have been me.

That chance went, I lost it that year. fast-track to 2014, they brought out another advert, I applied and wasn't invited for the test. I asked a friend who invited them and he told me the name. I sent an email to the recruiter explaining my challenge of 2013 and how much I had expected to be invited for the test of 2014.

4 hours later, he replied me and asked me what I graduated with. I told him. 2 hours later he invited me for a test the following day.

i made it to the interview, he saw me and said. "Oh you, i remember your face now from 2013. You are a smart man to have mailed me. I had to print a new candidate list just because of you"

well, I made it in.


I could have given up and said oh, God has chosen not to have mercy on me.But he did, he needed me to dive into the water when the angel was around and be cleansed. in fact, if God was not merciful to me, nothing on earth would have given me the wisdom to try sending the recruiter an email.

it was my lucky ticket and heaven answered with mercy.

What you don't believe in, don't bother others. you can't know more than God. They are not stealing, in the recruitment ethics, it is allowed. Nigeria has caged you and you must set your mind free. I am not saying you won't make it, but that's still not freedom. you need to be re-orientated about things. ask those that schooled abroad to tell you.

What you see as a privilege here is your right else where.

I don't think kpmg test is that difficult. That was my first aptitude test straight out of nysc and I passed, I couldn't lobby for materials cos I had only 3days to prepare.
the poster should know his/her ability and if he/she is convinced that he can pass it, he should go ahead

of course u r right, it was my first test also mine was during NYSC, but i did nt pass, right in d exam hall i knew d result. I thnk its balanced coming from ur angle. It all depends on candidates background, pple who r well grnded in maths even up to university level have nothn to fear. But for those who av bn far away from maths 4 a while, u might want to revise.

hi poster, if u ve a test wt kmpg on monday and yet by now u dont have ur hands full wt practice materials, i suggest u ask 4 a re-schedule, dia is no hurrying, kpmg allows re-schedule all d tym. Am sayn ds cos kpmg only offers one chance.
And to all dos just asking 4 materials, i av to say am surprised to say d least, sorry if i may ask, did u just discover nairaland job section. All ds while u applied u sud av bn frequenting ere and lobying 4 materials, nt @ ds dying tym. My advise to all is as I've said above, u guys sud gt a reschedule, and if u've neva written any test b4 u sud probably take like a month to prepare 4 ds. Kmpg is real and u dont want to squander ur opportunity. My 10kobo.

yeah, dt d good thng about KPMG and sisters, when ds guys are recruiting 4 grad trainee, so long u grad wt good grades, ur course of study hardly counts, it wot av bn telln my younger ones, u dont have to sit @ home 4 5yrs because jamb didnt offer u d course u wanted, take d one u have and turn the lemon to lemonade.
Infact to surprise u, when i wrote d exam last yr, out of about 100 of us dt were invited for dt batch dia was only 1 accounting student odas were from either engineering or sciences. So dts it bro no course palava, just go dia wt ur 2'1 and be less than 26.

I have met graduates of agricultural sciences in the Environment/Sustainable Development units under HSE working as Environmentalists.

As for Agronomics, I think I have. I recall even I found it interesting. I did not keep in touch.

The question is which area are you leaning towards? Economics is easier for you? I know the course interweaves these two disciplines so well and in the discipline it is almost impossible to separate the two. My take is as an Agronomist, you are more of an Economics graduate than an agricultural scientist. As such you can develop your skills in the area of Oil and Gas Economics and Accounting, or Petroleum Economics and Management. The CAPEX and OPEX people. . You can also focus on on Oil and Gas Project (Risk) Management etc.

As to where am leaning, firstly i dont see my self as a fresh graduate going into d OICs, i prefer to start a carrier wt one of ds consulting companies Pwc, KPMG,Deloitte or EY, before maybe going into oil and gas, so wt dt i know i will be leaning more to accounting and economics. While @ it i will like to know if d OICs have gt any special qualifications dy love to see in pple from my field rather than just experience.
At present sir ,I'm working very hard to @least gt into d big 4, dy say its a good place to strt one's carrier.

SAIPEM, well yes. While they are majorly into engineering and construction they also do other stuff both onshore and offshore. There has been some shake up in the company with a bid to get more involved in more oil and gas activities and contracts. It is almost as if the company is re-branding itself and wants to be more of a major player in the servicing industry.

I know a couple of their drill ships. On the OPL 245 Project (when it was still live, before it was frozen) Sapiem10, 000 drill ship was to be brought in to drill some wells. SEDCO EXPRESS and WEST POLARIS Semi Sub Drilling Rig and Drill ship respectively, were drilling on the field. I remember vividly going through the Sedco Express en-route to the MERLIN. My presence was so critical to Merlin's operations, I was transferred with the Zodiac FRC. . It was not very safe but it was thrilling. I cannot recall the details now, but I think there was a need to speed up field development and another drill ship was to be contracted. Many were considered and Saipem10,000 was favored because it could drill in ultra deep waters. Besides it is a very advanced drill ship and of course it belonged to Saipem which is a sister company to NAE who is the operator of the OPL245 Block. They are fully into drilling services as well.

The Total's Egina Field development (which they are still going ahead with despite the fall in oil prices ) has SAIPEM Playing a great role therein. They are handling EPCI of flow lines, pipelines etc. Of course Egina is considered deep offshore and Saipem is making its mark in shallow and deep offshore environments.

And oh yes. Call it frivolous, worldly, shallow or call it anything. I LIKE THEIR COVERALLS. Why, well I just think it is cute. Also I like the European styled coveralls.

Funny enough the company has huge potentials. Some areas of its activities are not even felt in Nigeria as they are in Europe.

bro d age tingy is pretty serious,when i was dia last yr, some peeps were asked out of d test venue 4 somethng lyk dat, and infact d woman veryfying our credentials told me if my DOB had nt been on my waec cert she wud have asked me out, cos wot was on my nysc id was nt clear, i just wrote 199X.

My guy me sef don write d test b4 but unsucessful but u know what, am applying 4 ds again.nothing do us.
