Onyeka Onwenu, an ace singer and actress, says she would ditch the south-west for her homeland if Nigeria breaks up.

Onwenu spoke on Tuesday during a virtual pre-book launch briefing ahead of the release of ‘My Father’s Daughter’, her memoir, billed for October 1.

The 68-year-old movie star, who is married to a Yoruba Muslim, said her decision would be due to her commitment to contribute to the development of the south-east, which she said, had been marginalised for long.

The human right activist cum politician recalled once joking with her sister-in-law, who is also a Muslim, that she would leave her children for “Biafra” if the country splits.

“If that happens (referring to Nigeria breaking up), I will go back to the south east because I want to go back home. And even if we don’t split, I want to do so much in the south east,” she said.

“So, I am not afraid…nothing spoil, nothing lost, we’re still going to love each other.”

Onwenu went on to enjoin those from the south-east to try and invest in the region, adding that such collective will is crucial to development within that part of the country.

“We have neglected the south-east and I am telling every Igbo person that whatever they are doing outside the region, they should go home and invest,” she added.

“It doesn’t take away whatever you are doing in Lagos or Abuja or wherever else…you are free to live where you like and trade but remember back home. We have been marginalised for a very long time, we are in need of development.

“We are going to develop other people’s places because that is what we do. But we must not forget that our investments are needed at home.”

Using her marriage as a reference, the music star also enjoined every Nigerian to uphold the country’s unity.

“We should stop insulting and denigrating each other. We are blessed with the richness of our culture,” she added.

She revealed that her forthcoming book, which contains over 450 pages, will examines aspects of her life which are hitherto unknown to the public.

I married an Igbo guy from Orlu Imo State. It's only pidgin English I know, most of the girls attacking me for speaking pidgin English are married to Nigerians as well.
One girl just slide into my dm saying that my family will be so ashamed of me with the way I'm speaking pidgin English on social network especially your grown son must be ashamed to have you as a mother, what has my speaking pidgin got to do with my son Lolo Ifunanya as she's known on social media questions. In 1999, a governor wanted to locate IMSU outside the state capital. Owerri people fought him. He stopped.
From 2007-2011, another governor wanted to take IMSU out from Owerri. They fought him.

From 2012 to 2019, Rochas Okorocha as governor built huge university structures for IMSU outside Owerri area.

Owerri people have wound a deliberate controversy upon the university facility in Ideato built by Okorocha.

This time, the governor of Imo state is only interested in relocating Imopoly from Umuagwo to his hometown in Oru East lga, and open another mini university near Owerri..

Imsu permanent location and Eastern Palm University facility built by Okorocha are not the issues now.

Imo in limbo.

Congestion problems for IMSU in Owerri where Futo, ALVAN, Polytechnic Nekede Federal College of Lands exist.

All because Orlu is ever punished with leaders who don’t understand the importance of public university in a place.
There is no public university in the whole of Orlu senatorial zone.

Leaders from Orlu zone serve themselves. A curse on the zone as imbalance in education between people in Owerri and Orlu zones is like the imbalance between a cow and a dog.

But who in his right mindset except far north Moslems still see Nigeria as one country?

Udenwa dug the Eluama-Orlu water borehole which packed up shortly after commission, like most water boreholes of government hardly maintained. Someone from Udenwa government callously named it: “Orlu Regional Water Supply Project.” Falsehood. Orlu Regional Surface water supply project was mapped out by IMSG starting from Mbakwe’s to supply treated water to most of the local government areas in Orlu zone. Udenwa was busy reactivating the multi billion Naira worth Okigwe regional surface water supply project, maintaining the multi billion Naira worth Owerri Regional Surface Water Supply system.

Rehabilitate water boreholes to supply a population of nearly half of a million people with water; instead of building the surface water supply project proposed by IMSG starting from Mbakwe’s? Orlu and entire Orlu zone still yearning for its proposed Regional Surface Watee supply project - a most sustainable public water supply system.
