Money spent on this election to be held next week is more than what will be spent on academic research in 4 years. People still kill to make money !!! Hey!!! The Microscope Was Discovered Accidentally By A Father And His Son. Microscope? What is a microscope? A microscope is an equipment that is used by microbiologists to view organisms that are so small that cannot be seen with the unaided eye. Microbiologists? Who are microbiologists? They are scientists that study tiny living things that cannot be seen with the Unclad eye. A microscope is the main tool of a microbiologist. Sometime in 1590, a father and son who made spectacles, Zaccharias Janssen and his father Hans started testing/experimenting with the lenses they made. They had many different types of lenses in a tube and made a very important discovery. The object close to the end of the tube appeared to be greatly magnified/enlarged, much larger than any simple magnifying glass could achieve by itself! They had just invented/discovered the compound microscope. A compound microscope is one that uses two or more lenses/glasses. So, they were the inventors of the microscope. Galileo heard of their tests/experiments and started testing/researching/experimenting on his own. He described the mechanisms/principles of lenses and light rays and improved on the work done by the inventors of the microscope. He improved both the microscope and telescope. He included a device for focusing to his new improved microscope. Antonie Philips van Leeuwenhoek discovered the microscope rather accidentally while working in his shop. He died in 1723 and was born in 1632. He was a Dutch glassmaker who later became known as the father of microbiology. One rainy day, Antonie Philips van Leeuwenhoek was looking at the rain water that gathered in front of his shop with different glasses in his glass shop. After a while he was able to see some moving life forms when he used a particular glass. He could not see the little life forms when he used other glasses. He became curious and looked and looked with different glasses still with special attention to the one that enabled him to see beyond the water into the organisms in them. Antonie Philips van Leeuwenhoek called those small animal-like forms “animalcules” (tiny animal). This was the beginning of studies into organisms that can not be viewed with the Unclad eyes but with special glasses. Antonie Philips van Leeuwenhoek continued to work on better lenses and improved on the initial accidental glass that he used. He was recognized and honoured by the Royal Society in London for his work. Antonie van Leeuwenhoek was elected to the Royal Society in February 1680. By the end of his life, van Leeuwenhoek had written approximately 560 letters to the Royal Society in London and other scientific institutions concerning his observations and discoveries. These writings can be referred as journal articles today. Robert Hooke (1635-1703), an Englishman is sometimes called the “English Father of Microscopy”, He also spent much of his life time researching/working with microscopes and improved their design and capabilities. Today better designs of microscopes are made in Germany, China and Japan. These new and better working microscopes will make even the early workers in this field to marvel. Prophets can prophesee and prophesay... Egberun Amin Ko To This title is Yoruba language o. It simply means “1000 amen is not enough”. What are you saying? 1000 amen is not enough? Are you kidding me or something? Am not kidding anyone and I don’t say (write) what I don’t mean and I don’t mean what I don’t say (write). Some years ago while attending one of the Ahmadiyya Schools at Oniwaya road, Agege, our principal, Baba Salami told us egberun amin ko to! He was speaking at the morning assembly and stated that some students depend on so many things to pass their examinations. Some depend on juju. I don’t know how that works. I have not and don’t intend to use it. According to him again, some depend on “ogun isoye” (drug that will quicken your memory). According to the aged teacher and administrator again it is what is in one’s memory that ogun isoye will bring back to him or her. If nothing has been stored upstairs via reading and studying the same EMPTY things will be returned to the user of ogun isoye. He went on to say that some depend on prayers alone. And that was when he said “egberun amin ko to”. On the eve of your examination, you have not read anything. Good talk but even if its for a few days you can still learn something and start, then continue... mrpoul: |
Striking undergraduates ke? Yes, it’s the higher institution workers that are on strike but the undergraduates have to stay at home too. So, in a way they are on strike too. While discussing and comparing events in different countries with an American I told him strike in universities is a problem in Nigeria. He asked me “what is strike”? He did not know what strike meant. Nigerians know the meaning of strike very well. For the benefit of the whites and others who don’t know what strike meant I will tell you what it means now. Strike is when workers decide not to go to work in order to persuade the employer to pay more of do more in terms of welfare or working conditions. In Nigeria, it seems strike is the only language that the government understands. University lecturers, polytechnic lecturers and other higher institution workers go on strike yearly to request for one thing or the other in Nigeria. Most times they are asking the government to implement certain agreements that they have made together. The government is good. The government is strong but no matter how that can be individuals have to plan what they want to happen to them. My mentor once said “no one will plan your future for you, you have to plan it yourself”. Undergraduates need not sit at home and spend the free strike time away. They should invest the time in a skill. Some undergraduates who are not on strike invest an hour a day to learn a skill how much more those who have free time at their disposal. Skill here those not include olosho things as they say nor drug addiction plus sales. I am referring to learning something that can add value to you now and in the future. In Israel among the Jews, history has it that a man that does not let his child have any handwork is like someone who is training his child to become a thief. No matter your course of study you can learn a trade that will be useful to you, your family and the society at large now. So what exactly can you learn? A lot of skills can be learnt depending on the interest of the individual. One of such is proper computer operation, data analysis, computer repairs/engineering, inverter and decoder installations, barbing, plumbing, electronics/electrical repairs, refrigerator repair, air conditioner repair, plating of hair, fixing of wigs, soap/deodorant making, bead works, tailoring, bag making, shoe making to mention a few. Skills that you can engage in are so diverse. With your level of education, you can do a lot of things with your time and with your life. A law student that I know of makes quality shoes and sells in the range of 10,000 naira. Your ultimate goal may be to get to the peak of your educational pursuit but in the absence of finance it may be hindered. It may be stopped. The goal may be unreached. Not everyone has correct uncles and aunties or daddy and mummy that you can run to with your life goals. If you have a skill you can support yourself in your planned and prayed for targets. Don’t wait for people to make things happen for you, make things happen for yourself. Take your destiny in your hands and stop the begging streak by learning a trade or skill now. read more at my blog https://newkokoro.com/2019/02/06/striking-undergraduates-should-go-learn-a-trade-or-skill-now/ |

Thats good. Have your wife and unite. have your husband and unite. Reasons Why You Should Start Your Own Business Or Company A man who was into fast food sales and has many outlets all over was asked to teach an MBA class. He asked the students what they thought was his business. They all laughed because the question was simple. The man, they assumed was in the fast food sales business. He surprised them by informing them that that was his job but real estate was his business. He made more money from real estate than from food sales. He buys the land on which the fast food businesses thrives and makes more from that. You need to own your own business. You need to start your own company. Whether you work for government or private make sure you start a company of your own. Here are some reasons or benefits of starting your own company or business. Decide to be a business owner today. 1. Free time and time at your control. Owning your own company grants you some free time. You can take a break whenever you desire. Initially though, when the company is just starting you have to do a lot of work sometimes without free time. When it stands you can have some free time for yourself. Everyone has 24 hours per day and 168 hours per week. The only difference is what each person does with time. If you were trapped in a burning building and had only 2 hours to escape, you wouldn’t do some nasty things but think only of safety. When you apply the same level of importance and quickness to your business you will be an instant success. 2. You build something in your name. It is not easy to start anything. It is difficult to start. Starting your own company makes you one of the few who are bold enough to stand out from the crowd and keep doing exploits with their one singular life. The business you build bears your name and you leave a good legacy behind; in your very name! 3. Tax advantage. Starting a company sometimes can give you some advantages in terms of tax. Because you are an employer of labour the government may give you a tax break or reduce the tax that you pay. Find out about this if you have a company and take advantage of it. 4. Feeling of fulfilment and joy. Building a company can give you a sense of fulfilment, pride and joy. Just like footballers celebrate after a game so owners of companies are happy when its successful. 5. You can pass the company to your children or family. A job cannot be inherited by the children or family members but a company or business can be inherited by one’s family members. Your family members cannot inherit your certificates too. 6. You have a job always and cannot be sacked. During downsizing and retrenchment company owners are not usually affected. It’s the others that become jittery and are affected. Having your own company means that you have a job always and cannot be sacked except the company is no more. 7. You get to know many more people. As a company or business owner you get to interact with many people at different levels. This increases your network. Your network can determine your net worth.
