Work has entered second stage at the Anambra International Airport City Project, Ivite-Umueri, Anambra East Local government Area of the State. The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Orient Petroleum Resources, Engr. Sunny Okoye revealed this while briefing the Press on the extent of the work so far at the project site. Engr. Okoye during the briefing displayed the structural designs of how the airport will look like after completion and expressed strong conviction that the company handling the project – Sino King is capable and will deliver the project within the three years time frame. The Orient Petroleum Resources boss, also stated that the Airport City Project has been fully licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Contributing, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Engr. Emeka Okoye stressed that the Airport City Project is going to be the biggest project and legacy the Government of Governor Willie Obiano will deliver to Ndi Anambra. Mr. Okoye who restated that the project will not cost Ndi Anambra anything, however said that contrary to opinions of the less informed that the Airport is going to be handed over to the Federal Government through Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), explained that that the duties of FAAN is to ensure that airports have necessary safety measures for airplanes and not claiming its ownership. On his part, the Project Manager of Sino King, Mr. Yu assured Ndi Anambra that the Airport city Project will be ready in three years, as well as within budget. The State government says it has procured three hundred and twenty- four transformers which will be distributed to industrial clusters of the state to boost the capacity of industries to create jobs for the people. Governor Willie Obiano who disclosed this when he received a high powered delegation from Nnewi at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia, revealed that the first batch of one hundred and fifty transformers which will arrive soon will be installed in the most strategic locations across Nnewi North and South. The delegation comprised notable Nnewi stakeholders including former Governor of Anambra State, Dame Virgy Etiaba, the wife of late Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Chief Mrs Bianca Ojukwu, a business magnate in Nnewi, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah and host of others. Addressing the people, Governor Obiano who noted that Nnewi is a major industrial city in the South East, further revealed that the expansion of the Obosi power injection substation which his administration is doing, is also aimed at maximizing the operations of the industries. He revealed plans by his administration to dualize Nnewi road in his second term to change the face of infrastructure, adding that the Nnewi Development Authority will soon be set up to coordinate the modernization of the city. The Governor recalled how he had intervened in the reversion of Nkwo Triangle Market to Nnewi people, which according to him, foiled anticipated crisis that would have emanated and reminded them that voting him in the upcoming election will guarantee that Nnewi region is not forgotten in the scheme of things. Former Governor, Dame Virgy, in her remarks described Governor Obiano as a man of integrity, whose sincerity and vision had printed indelible remarks in governance within his three years administration. For a Business Tycoon from the area, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, supporting Obiano was a unanimous decision of all the stakeholders in Nnewi, in view of his outstanding administrative policies that are human-oriented. Governor Willie Obiano has inaugurated and switched on the newly upgraded 36 kva line drawn from the Obosi power injection substation. Government House correspondent Kenechukwu Ofomah was at Nnewi North Council Headquarters where the project was inaugurated and reports that the 36 kva line replaced the initial 18 kva line conveying power to over 37 communities in Idemili North and South, Nnewi North and South and Ihiala Council areas. It will ensure constant power supply for the benefitting communities at least 16 hours a day. [b]Inaugurating the Project which cost the state government 1.8 billion naira, Governor Obiano said it fits perfectly into his administration's blueprint to make Nnewi, the industrial hub of Africa in line with his industrialization agenda. He revealed that the idea was conceived after a very unpleasant experience of poor power supply he had during one of his visits to the industrial cluster in Nnewi, noting that with its completion, some industries which had gone moribud will spring back to life. The Governor who observed that when they start running at full capacity, the industries will create ample jobs for the youths, urged the people to vote him for a second term to sustain the tempo of development in the state. The Commissioner for Power and Domestic Water Development, Mr Obi Nwankwo who revealed that the state government has taken delivery of the first batch of 150 transformers it purchased, said it is presently working out modalities for the distribution of the transformers for greater efficiency. He also harped on the need for the people to protect the power facilities installed in their localities by government. The Regional Director of EEDC, Engineer Obiorah Ekwerekwu said the project is a shining example of the kind of support the Company requires from the government and commended Governor Obiano for his doggedness in seeing that the project is completed within the specified period. Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Council Area, Prince Chukwudi Orizu thanked the Governor for all his people oriented programmes and assured him that Ndi Anambra are aware of all he has done for them and are resolute in their support for his second term bid.
