ChimaAdeoye:

I see a lot of Nigerian airforce high-ranking officers (Not security guards) as part of the entourage.

Does anyone know if the Nigeria Airforce has been allocated a spot to build their Umueri Airforce base? If so, I hope they won't distort the airport's master plan by moving their structures too close to the runway or the future parallel taxiway right of way as they did in Akanu Ibiam Intl airport, Enugu. No building at the airport should be closer to the runway than the distance of the current terminal building from the runway. Similarly, the apron whether for MROs or airforce should not be closer to the runway and taxiway than the distance of the current apron serving the terminal building. These standard distances must be adhered to so that the right of way of big cargo airplanes using the airport in the future is not sabotaged by building structures that encroach too close to the main runway or future parallel taxiway.

The Nigerian airforce should learn to build standard airforce bases with both standard respectable buildings and adequate apron space to house their attack helicopters and fighter jets and not park military airplanes next to civilian planes on the civilian apron! They should take a cue from the Indian airforce or Kenyan airforce that builds their own apron away from the civilian apron in many Indian airports.

You are totally right. Air force should be given ample land to develop their own air force base in the place.

There was a report some months or a year back on the parlous state of the hostels at UNN, with specific mention of the FRANCO hostels. Anyone know if they've now been refurbished?

I've noticed Unizik and Odumegwu Ojukwu universities have an advantage over UNN in the sense that they don't lack high-networth Anambrans prepared to spend big bucks to support and fix up their infrastructure! UNN on the other hand, seems largely to have been left to the pitiable funding they get from Abuja! Maybe it's also a case of UNN not being able to manage and apply its internal revenue properly, because with the huge amount of students they have and all the fees charged, i don't see why those FRANCO hostels would be allowed to rot to the level we saw in the pics shown about a year or so ago! Also, all the wealthy Lions and Lionesses don't seem to be doing much for their alma-mater!

Noticed how vehicles are recklessly parked/scattered everywhere all in the name of bus stop. It's too bad that Awka as a state capital don't have central park.
What about demolishing that brown roof dominanted TRACAS park, build a standard multistorey car park there, then connect the Enugu lane (side) of the express way to the multistorey park on the otherside by building an interchange across the highway?
Then turn that Eastern mass motor park and environ to a garden.

Very good suggestion concerning the central park, though we have some already in the city but more is needed

Is that the only part of the city? What about this this too? Though I am advocate of more infrastructural advancement and developments across Anambra. Next administration will continue where Obiano stops to expand the infrastructures in the city and across the state.

The local escrow platform based in Anambra State is a trusted third-party that receives and "locks" transaction payments from buyers and only releases payment to the intended seller when the seller has delivered the necessary goods or services in the agreed condition.

The middleman service helps to protect both buyers and sellers from online fraud, thereby boosting eCommerce activities and helping more people earn a decent livelihood.

According to the Director of EscrowLock, Elochukwu Eze, the information was contained in a statement issued by Facebook and made available to EscrowLock's office in Agbiligba Nanka, Anambra State.

He also said escrowlock Marketplace engages over 1,000 Nigerians as affiliates.

EsrowLock's Strategy Lead, Ms Sandra Iheanaetu, said the company would soon provide micro-grants and visibility to small businesses run by online individuals across the 36 states of Nigeria and the FCT. The challenge is designed to hold, at least, every quarter of the year.

The manner which you refer to the airport as is very disrespectful. This is an airport the state singlehandedly built without borrowing. I think we can give Willie a break for a second.

By the way , that airport is very sexy. We don't need a white elephant project that not only is beyond the means of the state but will take another 4yrs to complete. I am actually satisfied with the quality and pace , though I didn't support the idea of an airport in the beginning.

Yes , it a very decent airport. Exactly what Anambra needs without emptying our pockets.

Saw the response to my question yesterday about the narrowness of the body of water adjoining Nkisi GRA. Can now see the land on the other side is part of the island in the middle of the Niger.

Anyone know which state owns it? It looks massive and could be used as a nature reserve or park where families can go to chill. I don’t think building up the area with more real estate is a good idea though.

Both states may share most of those small islands, but boundary details could help in determining on which state they actually fell

I think it's an excellent idea to display the images so that the workers will have a picture of what their work should look like when completed.

You are very correct. Having the pictorial details around the construction sites always keep the workers on their toes to deliver on precision and details.

ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT DECLARES 3 DAY MOURNING FOR LATE ARMY CHIEF ATTAHIRU & OTHERS

1, The Anambra State Government has declared a three-day mourning period for the Chief of the Army Staff, Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru, and some other officers and soldiers who died in the plane crash of Friday, May 21, 2021, at Kaduna Airport. Consequently, Governor Willie Obiano has directed that the state flag fly at half-mast in all public facilities in Anambra State from Monday, May 25 to Wednesday, May 27, 2021.

2. The mourning is in appreciation of the role of the Nigerian Armed Forces in bringing about peace, stability and order in the country as a whole and in Anambra State in particular. Together with the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Security, Nigeria Civil Defence and Security Corps and Anambra Vigilante Group, the Armed Forces have played a huge role in making Anambra the most peaceful and the safest state in Nigeria in the last seven years, despite the security breaches of the past few months. Officers and men of the Armed Forces patrol are to this day patrolling streets, towns and villages of the state, especially troubled parts, both day and night.

3. As a result of the safe and peaceful environment, Anambra State has in the last couple of years attracted huge investments. The state has recorded investments worth between four and five billion dollars ($4-5 bn), creating products and services as well as direct and indirect employment in various sectors.

4. The people and Government have always been proud of their relationship with the Nigerian Armed Forces. We are proud that the first university graduate to join the Nigerian Army, Dim Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, was a worthy son of the State. Despite being the son of Nigeria’s wealthiest man in the 1950s and despite obtaining a master’s degree in Modern History from Oxford University, Dim Ojukwu joined the Army as a noncommissioned officer and rose through the ranks.

5. The people and Government of Anambra State recognize that military duties are sacrificial, carried out to serve the public good. In the imitable language of the Holy Book, “no love is greater than that a man should lay down his life for the benefit of others” (John 15: 13).

6. May the soul of Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru and those of the officers and men who perished with him last Friday in the service of our motherland rest in peace.

Signed

C. Don Adinuba

Commissioner for Information & Public Enlightenment.

Attahiru was a fine gallant officer. May his soul and souls of others that departed with him, rest in peace
