You're right about the abbreviations in exams. Especially that "d" one. It's not fair on the person who has to read it. So much effort on reducing a word like 'the' to "de", etc.

Sometimes one tries not to be a grammar Nazi, but really.

There is no reason nowadays not to spell words in full on electronic devices. I believe there should be some sort of rehab facilities made available because you need to see old people doing it.

Don't we the younger ones tell our parents they are old fashioned? In a bid to join the trend and be seen as fashionable, they start talking and typing like us.

I worry about the ones coming after us. It's getting worse and worse. Bill boards everywhere, brand names, advertising companies, comic books, one can't escape it. If the spelling of a word is not wrong then it is abbreviated. We need help.

There has to be a total overhaul here and now before we get to start arguing over spellings with our children.

On another note some of the people here proclaiming this use abbreviations left, right and centre. Eg. The last guy on the front page, I think, is using the word/letter "u" to condemn another guy who supports abbreviating. This "u" occurs in the middle of a sentence with regular English spellings.

The problem is too deep. Some don't even realize they do it.

Very true about your observation. I naturally don't pick these things/errors except they affect me directly.

In the days of 2go as an undergraduate, I could abbreviate for Africa! I'll abbreviate some words and the person I'm chatting with will have to ask for the meaning in full, it was chronic. Before I knew where I was, in exams, while writing fast, I write the word 'the' as 'd'. Most times, I don't get the chance to correct it. After a long battle, I gradually began to correct it.

Right now, I'm so prejudiced against this fad that I'll not buy an exercise book that has written anywhere on it, 'skool' because I feel it's the same amount of time it will take to spell correctly this misspelled word. I can't afford to mess with my poor parents investments.

I won't be surprised if she was aided. How many people write their CVs on their own? Anybody who can text that way comfortably to someone she is just introducing herself to won't be able to write correctly in English.

The same thing with people that write in all capital letters.

You see this bolded, I can manage a bit, but if someone types in uppercase and includes exclamation mark in the end, that person will answer himself/herself.

This one too can get a job but your guess is as good as mine when it comes to her job role and remuneration.

Lol. This thing is easy though with our devices helping us spell words even before you finish thinking it. They even go as far as suggesting the next best word, yet people are not maximizing the resource at their disposal.

Some things as formal as job search requires more.
I dare not type 'PFA', 'FYI', 'FYA' etc. to the people I report to, I'll be gone if I dared. That's the same way an employer looks at a potential employee.

The major help I need right now is money to return her to hospital because someone have called me here to inform me that according to the test result, so much damages have been done to all the organs of her body.

I'm really scared and confused.
All the suggested hospitals here, is still expensive to us cus right now we have spend all what we have.

This is a battle my mum, my step dad and I have been fighting for more than 2yrs now.
We can't handle it all alone again.
