Better late than never, they say. This incident happened on Sunday 3rd October, 2010. I think I owe it a duty to narrate this show of efficiency. I had to travel from Kaduna to Lagos on that day. Our vehicle, a Ford Galaxy, departed Mando Park around 7am. The young and friendly driver whom I heard answering Nathaniel drove with care and dexterity till we reached Ibillo in Edo State around 1pm. So far the trip had been very enjoyable with fellow passengers discussing a variety of topics while Nathaniel occasionally smiled while concentrating on his work. Immediately after the Total filling statio at Ibillo, a white garment church seemed to have closed from service judging by the multitude of their members seen from afar. That was when the undesirable happened. I think we were moving at about 120km/h. A boy of about 10, from nowhere, just attempted to cross to the other side without even looking. Nathaniel tried his best to avoid hitting the boy, but the left headlight still made a terrible contact with him. We all knew that the boy must be dead. And he was! That was a terrible sight to behold. We were filled with terror seeing how people started running towards us. A man in his late 30s picked the boy's corpes and beckoned an okada rider. They zoomed off to hospital. The pastor of the white garment church immediately entered our vehicle and ordered the driver to quickly drive to the Ibillo police station because, as he said, 'he knew what his people could do'. As soon as we had reached the station, the man that took the boy's corpse to the hospital came and made a distress call to the DPO to come fast, very fast to save the situation. We later learnt that he was a police too. In that hot afternoon, the DPO, apparently resting at home, wasted no time. In less than 5 minutes he appeared. A hefty, authoritative man. By then, half of the village had arrived at the station threatening to kill the occupants of the vehicle and burn it as well. The DPO ordered us to be kept inside and warned the youths to allow the law to take its course. He calmed them by saying nothing could bring the boy back to life, so further loss of lives or properties was not a solution. The few of them that wanted to be stubborn were sternly threatened, and therefore had to stay away. I was so chilled with fear while the all these were taking place. One of the policemen, seeing my body language, spoke Hausa to me and asked me not to worry). We were all praying. I was so busy reciting fatiha. Nathaniel was then kept inside a different room while he contacted his employers at Kaduna. They were asked to come the following day for settlement. We the 6 passengers were further kept for close to 3 hours to 'allow things calm down'. The boy was buried same day. Around 5pm the DPO provided us with escort to the village's motor park where we boarded Akure bus. I have never seen a more proactive trio than the first police, the pastor and the DPO. Through them, the Almighty God saved us. Wherever they are now, God bless them. And we were told the boy crossed and bought sweets. The sweets he could not enjoy. So pathetic. May his soul rest in peace. I wish I had seen Nathaniel again, such a jovial fellow ![]() That's my story, fellow Nairalanders. Cc: Lalasticlala |

A message to all of us younger ones. It is never too late to achieve smth new. |
OP, welldone. Your punctuation and syntax can do with some improvement. Good work. |
Casablanca! OMG! I can watch this movie 1000 times without getting bored. It was released in December 1942 |
OP, you need to modify your English. |

About biology, what will you say about Adam that had neither a father nor a mother? Where in the Bible did Jesus invent the 1+1+1 =1 ? I mean Jesus NOT Paul. |
(Today I remembered a jovial friend at school like a decade back. He used to entertain us with his best joke: Geography of a woman. I googled it and decide to share with fellow Nairalanders. May be it was here befo but I copied it and pasted anyway ).Between the ages of 18 - 21 a woman is like Africa or Australia. She is half discovered, half wild and naturally beautiful with bushland around the fertile deltas. Between the ages of 21 - 30 a woman is like America or Japan. Completely discovered, very well developed and open to trade especially with countries with cash or cars. Between the ages of 30 - 35, she is like India or Spain. Very hot, relaxed and convinced of its own beauty. Between the ages of 35 - 40 a woman is like France or Argentina. She may have been half destroyed during the war but can still be a warm and desirable place to visit. Between the ages of 40 - 50 she is like Yugoslavia or Iraq. She lost the war and is haunted by past mistakes. Massive reconstruction is now necessary. Between the ages of 50 - 60 she is like Russia or Canada. Very wide, quiet and the borders are practically unpatrolled but the frigid climate keeps people away. Between the ages of 60 - 70 a woman is like England or Mongolia. With a glorious and all conquering past but alas no future (a bit like Tony Blair, maybe Blair's a women really). After 70, they become Albania or Afghanistan. Everyone knows where it is, but no one wants to go there. |
While BH was having a field day with people's lives, these 'elder statesmen' were busy enjoying arms money from Dasuki. No wonder they all prefered 'transformation' over change. |
The list is actually endless. May God bless our mothers. |
Thank God it is ASSU that we don't know; not the ASUU we know. |
Though the story has made it to the front page, it is very obvious that it was simply the fantasies of the OP going by his previous posts. It really u have a nanny, u should ordinarily be living in a house that offers some little privacy without having to take the kids to neighbourhood. And I doubt if u'll be that careless in the afternoon. So many ? |
So u want her to discuss such an issue wit her husband as advised by the Americans? Are you for real? |
Hope the boy has a known father. To have a kid is one thing, to have both a kid and a husband is another ![]() |
He shaall be called Ojukwu Jr. |
Ugomba:Is there anything to copy from a man who told the whole world that his mama wears adult diapers? |
Humility. And it takes nothing from him. |
I guess the OP had 'friendzoned' this from another source. Kindly acknowledge your source. |
Is the husband innocent himself? It takes two to.... ![]() |
"By whatever name you call a rose it still smells the same" said Shakespeare. A wailer, under whatever disguise (Hawkins or Mustafa) is still a wailer. If truly you voted for Buhari, be patient and prayerful and things will continue to improve. We don't want to know your false name, in case of next time; cos it doesn't matter here at Nairaland. |
See lies! That some gullible people "may" and "might" believe him is surely an absurdity. But then, there must always be more foolish buyers than foolish sellers ![]() |
I don't blame the OP for bringing this trashworthy lie and false picture (and even calling Dangiwa Umar, Gwadabe and Abdulmumini Aminu police) but the apparently mischievous, gullible or bribed moderator that brought it to the front page. Unless of course if Nairaland mods have started taking money for blackmailing people. Very shameful one by the moderators. |
