Christianity EtcA Child Breastfeeds From His Dead Mother's bosom- Picture Depressing by amnestylaw1(op): 10:44pm On Aug 17, 2014
The picture below is one of a dead mother whose child tries to suckle some milk from her breast even as she lays dead on the floor. sad You may be wondering what or who killed her and what her offence is. For those who are in a hurry and who don't like reading lengthy stories, I will try to summarize what happened. She was killed by Buddhists because she is a minority, she was a Muslim in Myanmar,a country where Muslims are considered minorities and Buddhists majority.

Those who are parents will agree with me that this (the below picture) is one of the most depressing pictures of all times. sad I wonder what is good about our humanity anymore. We have some Muslims killing non-Muslims, some Christians killing non-Christians, and now Buddhists whom most think are loving, peace-loving, and humane people, are allegedly killing Muslims because they don't share the same belief huh

According to a January 2014 report,

Buddhists continue their brutal campaign of ethnic cleansing against Muslims in Myanmar. More than a dozen people may have been killed last week after Buddhists rampaged through a town in an isolated corner of Myanmar, hacking Muslim women and children with knives, a human rights group reported Friday.
Myanmar, formerly Burma, is a predominantly Buddhist nation of 60 million people. Sectarian violence has plagued the nation for nearly two years, as Buddhists have waged a vicious campaign of violence, intimidation and discrimination against the Muslim minority.

A Human Rights Watch report issued April 22, 2013, notes that Buddhist monks and their supporters, backed by state security forces, “organized and encouraged coordinated attacks on Muslim neighborhoods and villages in October 2012 to terrorize and forcibly relocate the population.” The tens of thousands of displaced were denied access to humanitarian aid and unable to return home.
Buddhist mobs attacking Muslim villagers, and not even sparing children, puts to rest any notion that Buddhism occupies some moral high ground.
I want us to think about the different erroneous stance we hold about people. I am not a Muslim, yet I am aware that killing in the name of religion is not carried out only by some elements who claim to be Muslims. There are some elements in Christianity and other religions who also kill for their religion. You hardly read or hear about them in the news- for God knows what. I am in no way advocating for any religion for I hardly even identify with any, however, I advocate for you, for me, for her, and that woman and her baby in the picture because we are first of all humans before we became religious or irreligious.

Steven Weinberg said that : “With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.”

iamord: That's why the test on rats..cos the can't go extinct.. They r just too many
It's not just only about extinction, but also about ethics and morality among other things. It isn't just humane to carry out tests on animals cause we want to better our lot. They are equally shareholders in our planet. Because we are powerful shouldn't justify cruelty. It is cruel to inflict disease and pain on another being, especially without their consents.

Yes, if I were to be infected with the virus, the most sensible and logical thing would be for the scientists to try it on me after getting my consent. Afteral, my chances of survival after contracting the virus is somewhat low.

Is it because it is connected to FG(PDP) that the drug was rejected

Pls oooooo

Lagos state give the drug a trial on monkeys before rejecting. Stop playing politics with peoples lives
Now that was inhumane. Why would they infect monkey? To test on an innocent animal who did not contribute negatively to our messed planet? Let them test on the patients, not the animals. Animal testing is cruel.

TravelRe: Guyana - Telling It As It Is by amnestylaw1(m):
I have followed this thread for some days now and I have read several comments- some cool, some harsh, and others neutral. While "I will give my life" to defend people's rights to voice their opinions, I will equally "give up my life" to defend other people's rights to be "respected" and treated "fairly." That Ms Anthony created this thread to inform us about her beloved country, or that some Nairalanders tilted the conversation from Guyana and Guyanese towards focusing on the person of Ms Anthony should not be enough reasons to quarrel among ourselves or hurl "abusive words" on Ms Anthony or fellow Nigerians.

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong in the skepticism displayed by lillaowow in his/her post(s). In fact, we should all be skeptical of any post we read here on NL even if it comes from the so-called reliable sources like our national dailies. History has repeatedly shown that skepticism, garnished with rationalism, help(s) us thread on a safe path. I also think there is nothing wrong in giving Ms Anthony the benefit of the doubt by not trying to "attack" her as though she had ulterior motives for coming on here, posting her pics, her ministry's website etc. There are many foreigners here who also post here. Many have their pictures here too. Ms Anthony (if she really is the one in the pic and if she is whom she claims she is) should be able to post her picture and personal info on her NL account if she so desire. Even if she, like many of us on NL, would like to "catch" a friend of the opposite sex (gender?), for heaven's sake, she has all the rights to do so. It should not be my business that she wants to catch "our guys" as some have been trying to insinuate from the tone of their responses.

I think Ms Anthony makes references to Nigerians in her comments for the following reasons:

1) She has worked (and still seems to be working) with few Nigerians in Guayana, and have come to somewhat understand and like them.

2) She is trying to make a connection between herself and her African past. Remember, she is one of us whose great-great grand-parents were taken away from this continent during the slave trade era.

3) She perhaps, is trying to educate us on the reality that not all that shines is gold. You see, many of us would sell our properties, get indebted, just to travel to Guyana and anywhere called "abroad" only to realize that we were better off staying at home. We end up taking smelly, laborious jobs and try to make ends meet...

Please let's all try to patient with one another. We don't need to attack each other. We should try to respect everyone irrespective of their belief or reason(s) for creating their thread. We should try to give Ms Anthony the benefit of the doubt that she exists and is whom she claims to be. We should also be skeptical of every post coming from her, from me, from everyone on this thread and other threads such that, when we smell rat, we can back off, alert others, and not fall trap. We can do this without resorting to name calling or e-violence.

Nduwin,

There is a section of the UK Open University where you can learn about water technlogy or potable water treatment. The weblink is http://www.open.edu/openlearn/science-maths-technology/engineering-and-technology/technology/potable-water-treatment/content-section-0

You will notice that on the left hand side of the webpage, there is a CONTENT table where you can navigate between lessons. I hope this helps.

Please house, I'd like to know if there's a website to learn interior design? Any useful information about this will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
Hi Egomah:

There are so many websites where you can learn Interior Design for free. Some of them may award you a certificate, others may not. I think the most important thing is what you learned, not the paper. So, these are websites with information on where to learn them for free. Good luck.

successking401: pls is it a degree program or certificate course?secondly what abt its accreditation and acceptability in nigerian labor mkt or elsewhere?thanks in anticipation of ur response
Hi, these are certificates programs. There are degree, diploma, and vocational certification programs available for those who pay. For the free courses, once you listen to the lecture (watch the videos) you take the corresponding the quizzes to test your mastery of the subjects or concepts and upon completion, you can get a CERTIFICATE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT. The certificate are not anything serious, they can help boost your resume anyway, but they are not stand alone qualifications on their own.

To put it simply, those courses are offered by Open University Australia (Just like National Open University in Nigeria). For the paid versions, you can enroll in a program to get the qualification in that program. For the free version, you register (free of course) for the individual courses, take them and download your certificate of accomplishment when you are done.

So my brother, you do the maths whether they are acceptable in the Nigerian labor market. I'll say since they are free, go for it and learn something which may help you outshine others in the labor market.

The paid versions which lead to certificates, diplomas, and degrees are accredited and may be recognized and accepted by an employer of labor in Nigeria. I should like to add that the Open2Study houses different universities and colleges. Depending on the program you register for (that is for the paid version), you can graduate from well known Australian universities. The closest example I can give about what I mean is that- for example, it is like NOUN offering free courses in Human Rights, Management, Marketing etc and also offering degree and diploma programs in different disciplines whose degree are awarded by UI, OAU, UniLag, UNN etc.

You may check out www.saylor.org and www.alison.com for other free sites to get free education. Saylor offers free courses and free unaccredited degree. You can complete a Bsc in Business Admin and get a Saylor degree but at the moment they are not accredited. You can also complete free alison courses and get a beautiful Diploma in the mail. Alison offers you courses for free but they charge you for hard copy Diploma if you want one.
If you are intersted in christian degree UP TO THE MASTERS LEVEL, you can check www.nationsu.org or www.nationsu.net

Nations University is a christian university that has been given the permision by the relevant state authority in US to operate through distance learning. You can get a BRS = Bachelors of Religious studies (if you have a WAEC or NECO result) or Masters of Religious Studies or Masters of Divinity (if you already have a first degree http://www.nationsu.org/#!about2/c4nz). The school is free for everyone except US citizens who must pay certain amount.

No problem, Ms Anthony. I knew it was an oversight. smiley By the way, I am Nigerian. I love to hear about my African brothers and sisters whose descendants have made the Americas and other parts of the world their homes. We are all one and I believe all blacks (both in Africa and the Americas) should forge some kind of tie, to have a melting-point where we come together to share/experience -that "Africaness" and humanity that connect us together- and help each other learn about the past we have missed, the present we are individually experiencing, and the future we are yet to experience...

holyghostfire: @dd25251 can a nigerian train nurse get a better job in guyana?
If I understand it correctly, Ms Anthony has been saying that Guyana's economy is not such that encourages migration from Nigeria or other countries to their's. She seems to suggest that Guyana is not a place where those seeking "better life" should go as they will be disappointed when they find that even Guyanese are moving out the country to other parts of the world in search of the same "better life." It seems she states that Guyana is good if you want to start all over, get the citizenship and increase your chances of being able to travel to more countries where Nigerian passport may not be welcomed... That said, I'll add that going to Guyana as a nurse on humanitarian ground is a nice thing. If one plans to go for the sake of service, not making money, it could work out, however, if one plans to go there and make the kind of money that most Nigerians plan to make abroad, I don't think one can make it...

I refuse to believe that the quality of our lives cannot improve. Nigerian roads have been slaughter slabs for how long? 10? 20? 40? 50 years? Don't we deserve better? These people had families and loved ones.

This harvest of death is totally avoidable.

We must choose governments that fear us (we the people) enough to live up to their responsibilities or these needless deaths will continue.

The choice is ours.
