You can never predict IRCC's timelines, but one thing is certain IRCC will get back to you in their own time. Just wait patiently for an update.

Please help
Me I reapplied since 22 April 2026 till now no response

What’s the reason ?
IRCC will teach you how to wait and pray. No one truly understands IRCC timelines.

One piece of advice for peace of mind and mental health as you move forward and continue dealing with IRCC: you need a lot of patience or you will get Hight BP waiting on IRCC Whether it's a student visa, PGWP, PR, or citizenship application, IRCC will definitely teach you patience.

To be fair, processing times have improved over the years. There was a time when student visa applications could take 4 to 6 months or even longer.

By the way, when does your school resume? I am asking because IRCC are aware of your resumption date and they always work towards that date in mind for the most part

Stop spamming the thread let's focus on serious issues.
You are very quick to insult people by calling them agents, scammers, and all sorts of names. But the moment someone responds to your accusations, you suddenly say, "Stop spamming the thread; let's focus on serious issues."

In 9 years on this forum, no one has ever called me a scammer. I have never collected money from anyone I do not even ask, and I have helped countless people along the way.

I have never sugar-coated the truth. You may not like my words, but most of the time, they are simply the bitter truth.

You cannot throw insults at people, call them agents and scammers because you do not agree with them, and then complain when they respond to defend themselves and clear their names. It does not work that way.

How did I know about Stanley Okechukwu. Is he not one of the agents you forced on me on this forum? A banker who spent 24hrs of his time on NL
Forced on you? When, where, and how?

Something is seriously wrong with you. I do not even know the person you keep bringing up. Just search his name and my username you will see that this is probably the first time on Nairaland that both of us have appeared in the same sentence. How do you keep making up stories and creating scenarios in your head?

I do not know that person. I have never referred anyone to you. I do not know any agent, and I am not an agent myself. Yet, even after I have stated this repeatedly, it still does not seem to register in your medulla oblongata.

This is the best advice to give.
Not coming here to tell someone planning to come to Canada for study not to come. Telling the ones already in Canada to pack their loads and head to MM2.
Its actually MM1 please take correction

Pointing out that attending a school that does not qualify for a PGWP or provide a realistic pathway to PR is not discouraging someone from coming to Canada.

Telling people that hoping to work and pay all their school fees while studying may not be realistic is not discouraging anyone from coming to Canada

Advising people to select programs that align with in-demand occupations and improve their chances of qualifying for PR is not discouraging someone from coming to Canada.

Providing accurate information so people can make informed decisions is not discouragement; it is simply being honest about the current reality

and when someone that goes to a school that does not qualify for PGWP or the person does not get PR after PGWP what are the options available if not asylum ( which I do not recommend and Bill C12 has mad difficult ) marriage which Badadvisor is doing or MM1 ?

Stop forcing ur agents on us. we are not interested.
The other day I posted about a shared apartment in Winnipeg and d other guy came with a law from Toronto stopping sharing of apartment. wetin concern Winnipeg and Toronto?

And for ur information I have met a Nigerian who shared a single room with 3 other students (four students in the room) in Ontario. u and ur kind keep telling people here "DON'T" just because we choose not to work with ur agents.

I do not have a problem with u sharing ur bitter and sweet experience. My problem is u forcing and luring victims to ur FAKE agents
What is new here? Making up stories in your head, calling me a fake agent, calling me a scammer 😂 with no evidence till today.

Since April 16, 2017, on Nairaland, only you have called me all these names. 😂😂😂 You Chibumalasia, Badadvisor who seems to have personal issues with me because I say it as it is are very quick to pull the fake agent scammer talk with is dead on arrival

Well, I am happy I was able to teach you the difference between a shared room and a shared apartment. You didn't even thank me for that, boy. 😆

So, you claim you met 4 students sharing a 9 m² (97 sq ft) room in Ontario, or anywhere in Canada, and the landlord allowed it to happen? Okay 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆

You still have not shown me the Facebook Marketplace ad where one person was paying $160 CAD to share a room with 4 other people. Show me the ad and stop avoiding the question.

now tell me what's wrong in what I said here tell me point it out what is wrong ??

amnotapervert:
You know that getting extensions after a PGWP has expired is different from the case we are talking about here. In this situation, she does not even qualify for a PGWP in the first place.

The last time Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) did something like that was back in 2023.

Canada previously allowed an extra 18-month open work permit for PGWP holders whose permits expired in 2023.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2023/03/canada-announces-extension-of-post-graduation-work-permits-for-up-to-18-months-to-retain-high-skilled-talent.html?utm

They are not going to extend anything

That temporary policy has now ended, and there is currently no new extension program for PGWP expirations between 2024 and 2026.

Another possible option is a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP), but that only applies if someone has already submitted a PR application, which is not her case. https://ircc.canada.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=676&top=29&utm

So let’s stick to the situation you mentioned: she does not qualify for a PGWP.

Realistically, how practical is it for someone to stay in Canada on a one-year visitor record when it doesn’t allow the person to work? We all know how expensive and cold this country can be.

LMIA has also become a pay-to-get system in many cases, with some fake agents exploiting the situation and charging people as much as $30,000, even though it is illegal to charge workers for an LMIA. check Facebook market place you will see American wonda

At the end of the day, she can try anything that works, but her options are very limited basically going back to school or returning home (MMA1).

Share your story. The struggle, the pain, the gain, the dark side and the bright side. Share them here but never tell anyone not to come. Never tell anyone that their only option is MM2.
People's destinies are different.

Never post agents contacts here whether registered or unregistered agents.

If you cannot help someone here navigate for free, allow them. We do not need ur agents.
Hahaha, it's actually called MM1. MM2 is the local airport, while MM1 is the international airport.

and when talking about me Please CC me so I do not miss it

Look, I don't like to sugarcoat the truth. If someone doesn't qualify for something, then sadly they may have to use the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MM1) option.

I remember the case you're talking about someone's cousin attended a school that does not qualify for a PGWP. The person didn't have enough money to enroll in another qualifying school and was asking about their options. They also mentioned LMIA.

All I said was that they attended a school that doesn't make them eligible for a PGWP, and since they don't have the funds for another program, getting an LMIA is very difficult unless you're willing to pay to play as the south Asians have mad this program something else....

I do not have issues with anyone coming here to tell us how tough it is to live in Canada.

It's never easy anywhere in the world.

One thing I want everyone to understand is that "because it worked for Mr A doesn't mean it will work for Mr B" and "Because it did not work for Mrs A doesn't mean it will work for Mrs B".

Everyone's destiny is different.

My problem with that pervert boy is simple. He is a scammer. My first post on this thread was after getting admissions and needed to process my study permit. I posted here that I needed someone with first-hand experience to lead me through and I stated boldly that I did not want an agent.

Did boy started persuading me to use agents. Telling me there were licensed agents about 7 in Nigeria. started sending me contacts of his agents. I kept telling him "NO".

Then someone posted here that he was looking for PR pathways. He forced the person to use his agent.

Another person posted (I guess this person is already in Canada). He was telling the person that his only option is to pack his bags and land at MM2.

Another person posted and he told the person to forget about coming to Canada that Canada is not advisable to come. That Canada was better in 2018 to 2022.

I'm like, you claim u are in Canada. If Canada is not good for him to come why are you still in Canada?

The scammer lure people with that email on his profile to scam them.

He said that if people do not agree to what I say, I call them scammer. Ask him, apart from him, who else have I called a scammer here? He claims he works in a bank in Canada et most of his life is spent on this thread.

There was someone who posted here how he got his visa approved in less that 7 days. the person posted his whatsapp number and asked we reach out to him if we need help.

I asked the person why cant he post whatever info he has for us here, the person said he barely visited this platform. Only for us to know that the person lives and breathe on this thread 24/7.

please let's stop spamming the thread. amnotapervert is a scammer.

Freedom of expression is not discouragement. Sharing personal experiences and opinions, whether positive or negative, is a right.

If people can freely post success stories and encourage others to come to Canada through the student route, then others should also be free to talk about the struggles they have witnessed. Calling every honest opinion "discouragement" is simply an attempt to silence viewpoints that some people, like you, may not agree with.

At the end of the day, everyone is responsible for their own decisions. Advising people to do proper research before spending their money is common sense, not discouragement. The truth is not always comfortable, but it is still the truth.

I did not post my comment to discourage or encourage anyone to come to Canada as a student. It is your money and your decision.

But honestly, I would not advise even my enemy to come to Canada as a student without doing serious research, especially if PR is the goal. I would rather encourage people to consider learning French and exploring other better pathways.

This is my fourth year in Canada. I came as a PR, and I live in Toronto. There is a school close to my house, and I have seen many Nigerian students crying and regretting their decision because of academic stress, financial pressure, difficulty getting work, and no clear pr route.

People post nice pictures on social media, but not everyone shows the real struggle behind the scenes.
Our people need to hear the truth: research properly before making any decision. Research the course, the school, the PR pathway, job opportunities, and other alternatives before jumping into the student visa route.
All you said is true. I have been in Canada for 9 years.

But someone called AbelAbdul will probably say you're an agent, that you're trying to get people to pay you to teach them how to get PR before coming to Canada, or his favorite word: "scammer" 😂😂😂

Meanwhile, all you did was explain the reality on the ground so people can do proper research and understand that getting PR after graduation is not as straightforward as it used to be...

Academic
do not write exam you do not need

what school are you looking at and what program ?

IELTS is good for getting admission, but in my opinion, it is not necessary.

Most school in canada will waive English proficiency for Nigerians.

All you need is to obtain an English proficiency letter from your school in Nigeria stating that your studies were conducted in English, that you were taught in English, and that all your exams were in English.

Your school registry in Nigeria knows how to issue this letter...even at that for some schools once the admission office in Canada knows you are Nigeria they normally wave language requirement

Your Canadian school will likely waive the IELTS requirement, but if you want to take it, you can. However, in my opinion, you do not need it

You have summarized it very well.

The refusal numbers are indeed concerning. I remember discussing the trends back in 2025 when refusal rates were already attracting attention. At the time, some people felt I was being overly pessimistic or trying to discourage prospective applicants. Looking at the direction of policy changes and increased scrutiny today, it is clear that the assessment environment has become much more demanding.

I can only imagine what the final 2026 statistics will show. Regardless of the numbers, I genuinely hope that everyone pursuing a visa or immigration pathway receives a fair assessment and achieves the outcome they are working toward.

I also agree with your main point: it is not just about money.

Many applicants still assume that a strong bank balance, admission letter, or employment document automatically translates into approval. In reality, officers assess the entire application as a connected story. Financial capacity is only one component. Career progression, source of funds, travel history, ties to the home country, study rationale, credibility, and overall consistency all play important roles.

Some applicants with modest finances are approved because their applications are logical and well-documented, while others with substantial funds are refused because certain aspects of their profile raise unanswered questions.

That is why applicants should focus on building a coherent and credible application rather than concentrating solely on proof of funds.
do not talk about numbers and statistics ooo AbelAbdul will say you are discouraging people from coming 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I understand where you're coming from. The frustration is real, especially when applicants see people with seemingly strong profiles getting refused with very similar refusal letters.

That said, I don't think the situation is simply that IRCC is "running out of excuses." What appears to be happening is that Canada's immigration system has become much stricter in how it assesses risk, particularly for temporary resident applications such as visitor visas and study permits.

A lot of applicants still focus heavily on having enough money, admission letters, or employment documents, but today's assessment goes much deeper into consistency, source of funds, travel history, career progression, ties to home country, and overall application logic.

In fact, I recently wrote a detailed breakdown explaining why some "perfect" applications still get refused in 2026, how automated triage is changing application reviews, and what applicants can do to reduce avoidable risk factors.

You can read it here:

I'd be interested to hear from others as well. Have you noticed refusals increasing among applicants with otherwise strong profiles, or do you think most refusals still come down to weaknesses that applicants don't initially see in their own files?
You have said it all. Yes, the rejection numbers are crazy.

I know I talked about the numbers before, which were around 75% in 2025, and because of that, AbelAbdul said I was discouraging people from coming to Canada and even called me a scammer. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I can only imagine what the 2026 numbers will look like... I pray everyone looking for visa will get what they are looking for...

I have nothing else to add you have said it all. I agree with everything you mentioned. It's not all about money; every aspect of a person's application needs to add up. Strong finances alone do not guarantee approval.

My

I was thinking towards passage and the like
I don't know how Passage works, but even if you get a loan, you will need to explain to IRCC how you obtained the funds. If they find out it's a loan, that could be a major red flag because you will have to repay it.

IRCC understands that, as a student, your primary focus should be your studies, and your work opportunities are limited. Because of that, they may question your ability to repay the loan while studying.

You will need to clearly explain the source of the funds to IRCC, and in my opinion, relying on a loan does not look very strong.

Take it or leave it and face the positive or negative consequences. The North American visa officers (US/Canada/Mexico) from the beginning of Trump era are now super-psychologists 😀 I mean they issue visas based on real intentions and reasonable permutations.

It may not fly well opting for Msc in Canada. Do your Msc in a reputable public research University in Nigeria ie OAU , ABU. Unilorin, UNN etc ....work with good professors and try harder to come out with better cgpa.

Then apply for Phd in Canada which comes with fundings and working options (based on your academic standing.

Seeking for loan to apply for study abroad is a red flag in visa issuing decision no matter how well you can display the repayment to the visa officers except if you are an undegraduate with a scholar feat but who come from a humble family.

Alternatively you can look out for Msc with the option of graduate assistance (work-study) with your ican and years of teaching experiences as well as good recommendation letters and use court affidavit with a family member or outsider as your sponsor. You must apply alone if you are considering this option.
Thank you for your reply

I wanted to say that loans for studying abroad are a red flag, but one person called AbelAbdul will say I am discouraging people from applying abroad hahahah and start to use his favorite work scammer Agent etc with no evidence

I wanted to change my tone to be nice for a sec, but the average Nigerian doesn’t like direct truth; they prefer sweet lies. Just like one guy mentioned, he paid 20k to join a group so they can add him so he can know how to school in Canada for 10 million naira

People who do not even have the funds are thinking about loans; IRCC does not waste time with that....

except you get a scholarship its very hard becasue you must explain to IRCC how you got your funds

I will always be direct: schooling abroad is not cheap siina. the avergae 2 years masters or PGD program will cost you about more than $45,000 CAD thats a conservative amount
