Jorginho was at fault for that last goal and the less said about calamitous Kepa the better because the boy's arrogance is way too above his goalkeeping ability. |

OJURONGBE1: I just read it on Dailymail news that Chelsea have agreed terms with Kai Havertz.
Total waste of money if you ask me Coughing out £75m on a one season wonder. The losses the club incurred on Kepa ,Bakayoko, Drinkwater and Zappacosta is enough. I thought they were about to get it right with the singing of Hakim and Timo without breaking the bank. Havertz is not a one season wonder he's been performing across various positions since his breakout season with Bayer be it CM, CAM, RW and CF. His best position is CAM where his goal scoring, passing and dribbling will be most useful, we don't currently have the player who can do what he brings to the table don't mention RLC because he's not always fit. |

BlueAngel444: not only defensive reonforcements we need good defensive coaches in that backroom.
At a point Cesar was playing crap. We couldnt defend set pieces, couldnt defend counter attacks, not even stop outside shots. Conceeding late goals, defensively disorganized. Lampard uses a combination of man and zonal marking but the application has all shades of wrong against Palace Gilmour was marking a player who was almost 6'3 and in another game Azpilicueta was marking a taller player. |

donstan18: Pep didn't change his style of play in Germany, rather he changed Bayern style of play to his possession style of play.
We watched Bayern especially in UCL from 2010 to 2013. We saw how clinical, solid, counter and attacking minded they were. Recall 2013 against Barcelona? Recall how played and knocked Madrid in 2012 also? These Nighaz were dangerous af then with their German style of play.
Then Pep took over, introduced possession game, everything changed, UCL humiliation became a norm to them from Spanish teams throughout Pep's reign. He didn't change his pattern a bit in Bayern.
In EPl, he did because he didn't and couldn't get the players he needed for it, not because it can't work in EPl. Afterall, he destroyed and humiliated all the top EPl teams he met with Barcelona aside Chelsea. Guardiola adapted to the demands of Bundesliga while sticking to his core principle look at a quote from that book he co-authored with Perarnau, ' One should never confuse ideology with the correct strategic response to a specific situation'. He changed his pressing game, and the way his team attacked, that he wasn't successful in the UCL is a thing of luck |

popizaino: What of a proper 9? Werner, Ziyech, Pulisic, Abraham, Giroud, Mount and if can secure the services of Havertz will guarantee us goals. What we need is defensive reinforcement to solidify our backline and take us to the next level |

BlueAngel444: true about Koulibaly, but would still swap him for Rudiger if Rudiger doesnt improve.
But City will spend, they have always been that way, they have already beat united to Ferran Torres in order to replace Sane. And City didnt lack goals this season o.
They are still after Alaba, even though they have Mendy, Stones and co. They mighy not spend close to 300m or 200m their usually amount but I wouldnt beat against them taking it past 100m and Rum coming here and telling us it's because Sane left and Silva retired You can't blame City for replacing Sane with Ferran Torres and going for Alaba, losing a player and not replacing him will leave you behind your competitors by a transfer and it will be difficult to correct and when Pep bought Mendy he thought the lad will be as good as Alaba technically, tactically and professionally but Mendy is another failed project so far and hence his pursuit of Alaba as both of them enjoyed a successful time together at Bayern. |

donstan18: The truth is that any style of play can work in any League so long as the exact team got players who are good with that style of play.
Barcelona aren't that physical with their pattern of play. Does this mean they'll be relegated in EPl? Same goes with Bayern and Psg.
Get a good coach, good players that suit your style and you are good to go. Jorginho is good and not as useless as people criticize him here.
I understand your post regarding the needed qualities to excel in his position, especially in a club like Chelsea where you must play like a tout to be valued by their fans.
But he is GOOD!!! Guardiola said that he had to adapt to the peculiarities of Bundesliga and change the way he played in Spain, also he said he will adapt to the demands of EPL in a book co-authored by Marti Perarnau titled: Pep Confidential, The Tactical Evolution of Guardiola. In Quiet leadership Ancelotti said he'd to adapt to the various leagues he's coached in. |

BlueAngel444: What makes this man city transfer ban that was canceled more annoying is they have power in the market. The £150m they want to invest this summer in their squad would have been what they would have lost if the ban was upheld and that would for once make them frugal in spending.
I had hoped maybe Chelsea would consider going for Koulibaly seeing he may not join a UCL banned team giving his age, and the fee might be just about £60m but with city in the mix that's a dream now.
Anyway if we do sign Rice he can play DM as well, if he doesn't make that CB position work that is.
I would like a CB that's great in the air and as you said an organizer not a pointer or a mere shouter ManCity will not spend much because of drop in match day revenue and how lucky they were to escape hammering they will only buy if they can move on some of their fringe players for decent sum of money which is highly unlikely due to financial crisis occasioned by Covid19 pandemic, so Chelsea may be able to beat off City's competition. As for Koulibaly I'm quite skeptical of him due to age and occasional brainfarts if we move for him at present he'd struggle to adapt and the expectation will weigh him down. |

donstan18: Players like Jorginho and Busquet are few these days and not something a big team should sell off.
Just pair them with a dirty player and you'll enjoy them.
Jorginho is good and will be rated above 80% of midfielders if he play for Pep.
Sarri won a major trophy at Chelsea, but Chelsea fans hated him because of his possession game. They are used to Conte and Mourinho style of play.
Toooom toooom tooooom! Win by all means!!
Just dey booooley the ball like that till it enters the net, forgetting that they don't have strong strikers like Drogba and Costa! Jorginho is at best a poor man's Pirlo, Michael Carrick was a better DLP than Jorginho during his playing days yet he was heavily criticized for his lack of athleticism. EPL is a different animal compared to other leagues because the intensity is higher and your DLP must have legs and be physically robust else he will run into trouble, Xabi Alonso was DLP and excelled in that role while playing for Liverpool because of his athleticism coupled with his technical qualities, Fernandinho excelled too in this role because of the aforementioned qualities. |

BlueAngel444: "Ajax and Argentina left-back Nicolas Tagliafico, 27, is a potential transfer target for Manchester City this summer."
Imagine, our next should be a LB please, since Havertz won't be let go till after europa. The board should focus on saving the defense with better reinforcements. We can't lose both Tagliafico and Alex and still not sign Chilwell (who it seems leicester have found his replacement already) Chilwell is a fraud we are better off without him we need a dynamic fullback not a one-trick ponny, we need a DM that's mobile with good passing range to shield our backline and a center-back that is good at defending and organizing the backline |

airmark: This one, as a football great, understands the game well and what derailed Hazard's season.
Some agbo sellers, road-side mechanics here on nairaland, have no clue. Hazard didn't do himself any good by joining Madrid being overweight it shows his lack of seriousness and ambition to reach the Pinnacle of football, but he's a joy to watch if he's interested in playing the game. I will give him next season and if he turns out worse then Marina did a great job in cashing out |
