PoliticsIgbo Formula For African Development by AmuDimpka(op): 5:52am On Sep 03, 2017
Nigeria is the way it is because any nation that refuses to use its first eleven but insist on pushing mediocrity forward shall remain underdeveloped..

Igbo States have the highest cut off points for any level of education beginning from Primary Schools to University level.

In addition, Igbos have the highest number of graduates, Masters degree holders, Doctorate degree holders and also the highest number of professors. Literacy in Igboland is above 90%, peaking in Imo state with 96.4%.

Despite, these intimidating characteristics, Igbos are rarely found in positions of authority to turnaround Nigeria..

Igbos dominate list of Nigeria businessmen and industrialists. Igbos have 80% of registered businesses in Nigeria Corporate Affairs Commission yet Igbo opinions are not sought on improving Nigeria economy as it plummets to all time low.

The only area where Nigerians often get it right is football. because of our foreign coaches meritocracy rides above mediocrity.

In the atmosphere that there are over 10,000 Nigeria internationals with about 80% of them as Igbo, it is natural that first team shirts go to mostly Igbo footballers. This policy of excellence has pivoted the Super Eagles to leadership position in Africa and admirable position in the world. Nigeria is made proud by great Igbo Footballers like Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Sunday Ogochukwu Oliseh, Christian Chukwu, Emmanuel Okala, Iheanacho, Mikel Obi to name a few.

The Igbo excellence was once again expressed when an Igbo dominated Super Eagles beat Cameroun 4-0 to the joy of all Nigerians at the US Stadium.

It is widely known, that if Igbos are courted in other areas of Nigeria life especially leadership and decision taking that Nigeria shall be pivoted to positions of international pride and acclaim. Many say that the Igbos are capable of reversing the debilitating effects of imperialism and restoring the lost glory of Africa.

Will Nigeria and indeed Africa clinch to the Igbo fast - track of national /continental development or should we continue in our negligence of the black Jews of the world?

PoliticsOur Contract With The Nigerian Youth by AmuDimpka(op): 10:20am On Aug 03, 2017
Looking at the present Nigerian situation, one would agree that present and past governments had no plans for the young generation, especially those within the age of 16 and 30 years.

These Group of Nigerians were abandoned to their parents.

A country that abandons the heartbeat of her nation is already planned to fail.

Our Government will bring in these Group of Nigerians as stakeholders in the Nigerian system.

We will introduce internship and apprenticeships scheme which would create jobs for young people.

20 percent of the Civil Service would be dedicated to this Scheme and the Private Sector who complies with this Policy will give tax relief.

This policy will employ the young people, make them responsible and most especially make them earn money and skill.

Some will become full staff, while some would have saved enough money to pursue their bigger dreams.

We believe that a responsible Youth/Young Adult will grow up to become responsible adults and national leaders in future.

This is our contract with the Nigerian Youth.

AgricultureBabcock University Partners With Chitola Farms On Mushroom Farming by AmuDimpka(op): 3:19pm On Jul 28, 2017
The call for diversification from crude oil to agriculture is yielding fruit lately, with the Ivory Towers keying into the need for food sustainability and reliability. This has prompted the Babcock University, Ilishan Remo ,Ogun State ,Nigeria to partner and collaborate with ChiTola Farms & The Mushroom Development Foundation Nigeria (MDFN) on ways to develop high yielding and quality mushrooms in Nigeria for domestic use and export, in line with the global best practices.

The partnership with Babcock University and ChiTola Farms & The Mushroom Development Foundation Nigeria (MDFN) will bring to bear the modern agricultural practices on Mushroom Farming and the introduction of the Babcock Farmers Business School, ChiTola Farms & Mushroom Development Foundation Nigeria is currently setting up a 5000 bags capacity mushroom farm for Babcock University under the Foundation’s “Mushroom For Schools” Initiative. This will unarguably create the much needed jobs in the community and also give the students a first hand knowledge in modern mushroom farming.

One of the organizers and founders of the initiative, Mrs. Chi Tola, has this to say on the choice of mushroom “Mushroom is a food that is low in Sodium, and very low in Saturated Fat and Cholesterol. It is also a good source of Protein. The mushroom consumption is mainly concentrated in six countries known as G-6 (USA, Germany, UK, France, Italy and Canada) consuming 85 per cent of world consumption. The varieties of mushroom cultivated internationally. This project would give the state the much needed revenue and generate employment”, she added.

One of the drawbacks of this aspect of agriculture is the lack of trained manpower is among the bottlenecks for the growth of the mushroom. With this partnership with Babcock University and Chi Tola Farms , there will be a shift in paradigm. Skills transfer is one of the major areas of partnership.

According to online research by Yes Bank, Mushroom belonging to fungi species, is a nutritious vegetarian delicacy and a good source of high quality protein (20-35 percent dry weight). Presently 3 varieties of mushroom are cultivated namely, white mushroom (Agaricus bisporus), the paddy-straw mushroom (Volvariella vovvacea) and oyster mushroom (Pleurotus sajor-caju). Agaricus species are mostly cultivated mushroom globally, contributing 35-40 per cent of the world production. Mushroom is consumed as a delicacy and possesses several medicinal properties. Mushroom is an efficient means for conversion of agricultural wastes into valuable protein and presents huge potential for generating additional income and employment. Globally, the mushroom market is in excess of an estimated $2.7 billion annually.

CrimeLagos Police Command Cautions That Ikorodu Residents Moves Around With Id Cards by AmuDimpka(op): 2:09pm On Jul 07, 2017
The Lagos state police command would like to inform members of the public especially residents in ikorodu and environs, that from henceforth everybody moving around that part of the state, residents, students or workers should always have on them a valid form of identification.

This has become important and necessary because of the series of police operations lined up in the area by the Lagos state police command led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations.

The Lagos state police command is deeply concerned about the criminal activities in the area which is not only unlawful but also affecting the integrity of the state.

The planned police operations demands residents to carry on them a valid form of identification which will be verified, in order not to be restricted or face apprehension as adequate security arrangements have been put in place for the safety of every Nigerian throughout the state by the police and other security agencies.

This order takes immediate effect from the 4th of July 2017.

What he does for a living , many couldn't say. How he does that for a living many couldn't fathom . Hate him , like him or be indifferent, he is living it up. In a street parlance he is balling out of control. A baller per excellence, Hushpuppy demystifies opulence and splendor. The wealthy Nigerian who was listed by Daily Mail as one of the ‘Rich Kids of Nigeria‘. That's how the international media described him and he had lived to that tag to the fullest and he owes no one an apology or disclosure.

Though, he had been in news lately for his "beef" with some of the finest artiste in the country where he was said that ,their houses couldn't buy his shoes. The misunderstanding he had has seen him a in news lately,, from Phyno to Kcee to Davido lately.

His response to some of the beef was when he displayed an array of shoes calling it "red sea" and the sea was red with his red soles snickers and shoes. Sometimes , we were wondering if he is a Christian Loubertain endorsed fellow .

The clapback to some of these beef was impressive . According to an online source , the issue with Davido was when he went to a top notch club and the artiste was spending...

He spent N11m in the club to prove to Davido that he was a self-made man and was not living off his father's wealth.

After popping so much in Quilox, Hush Puppi dropped a sub on his Instagram. "They need to talk about me to get attention because if they spoke about themselves, no one would give a Bleep #Gucci #BabaOlowoHimself " he wrote on his Instagram page on Sunday.

Phyno response to Hushpuppi was epic , though , it was alleged that Hushpuppi set the dice rolling in his Snapchat ,when he said to the artiste that "If you don’t want people to patronise pirated copies of your work, don’t patronise pirated copies of other’s work,” said Hushpuppi in his SnapChat diss.

Phyno, a dude who has been there ,done that and represented the street from 042 isn't the type that can be dissed and he will go with his tails tucked in between his legs like a scared puppy. Trust Phyno..He fired so much salvo that people got wondering. In one of his finest epic response or do we call it salvo, he said " I represent continent brand and other things, what do you represent" a response his admirers will term as epic. But, to us we see it as legendary. Have they made up, we don't know .

What we must all agree with me is that ,hushpuppy might be seen as arrogant , but there is always another side of the coin. He has been reported to have filled out some money to assist in payment of school fees. He has also demonstrated humility in his story. In his Instagram page, he described how he shared clothes when growing up with his siblings. He had a word of advise for the youths that always cry government didn't do this or that for them, he advised them to believe in their capacity and get a grip on their lives. If we can't take nothing else from Hush, we can At least agree that this advise is timely when the he suicide rates has gone up and depression hitting an all time high in the country. The advise becomes timely. Hushpuppi is always in the news. He is living it up.

These people decided to arrive with Biafran flags and banners to the venue, large flags and banners. They hoisted the flags all over the stadium. They waited for their governor for more than 4 hours , he didn’t show up.

Information filtered in that he has asked them to reconvene at Heroes Square, some said ICC, some, freedom park. Some persons marched to these venues and the governor did not show up in any.

Suddenly news filtered in that Nnamdi Kanu was passing through Douglas road to Mbaise road enroute Umuahia.

Immediately the crowd surged, persons numbering more than 100, 000 came out to have a glimpse of this circumstantial hero and “fraud” as you Mr and Mrs integrity refer to him. NCAN where are you
Lindalilian:
Nigeria’s economy contracted for three consecutive quarters shooting inflation to an all- time high in 10-years in a roll. The situation in a roller-coaster effect affects adversely the illegal business of s*x in the country. ADEREMI OJEKUNLE who visited some of the daring Lagos brothels in this report, presents the anguish of the economic situation on s*x workers.

The pathway that leads to the Onore bar, a notorious brothel well known to residents of Otodo Gbame - a fishing community in Ikate, Eti-osa Local Government Area of Lagos - remains calm, antithetical to the usual bubbling lifestyle.

But for the music blaring from huge speakers, the main bar remains dry, dull as the sisters of the night who wait fruitlessly for would-be-customers.

Clad in skimpy see-through dresses, the prying eyes of the sex workers race back and forth, shaking their ‘assets’ to attract the few customers on patronage.

‘Babe, how far?’ one of them hail this journalist. ‘Come, I will do you well,’ Esther (not real name) added after an initial scorn. In seconds, this reporter was surrounded by the girls, advertising their market.

Harboured in chalets, hotels and guest houses, Lagos sex workers popularly called ‘Olosho’ have a direct livelihood sustenance with the country’s economy.

In December 2016, the Nation's consumer prices increased by 18.55 per cent year on year, the highest figure since October 2005. Also, unemployment figure rose to 13.9 per cent month under review. The report released by the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics showed that 555,311 persons that fall under labour force were unemployed.

prostitutes.JPG
Photo source: IBTimes - Nigerian Prostitutes

According to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, in November 2016, Nigeria's gross Domestic Product (GDP) contracted by 2.24 per cent in the third quarter which showed negative growth in the year as the economy shrunk by 0.36 per cent and 2.06 per cent in the first and second quarters respectively, Nigeria's economic woes can largely be attributed to the struggling oil sector, upon which the economy is dependent.

With these unfavourable economic figures, life has become tougher for many of the sex workers.

Economic downturn presents the odd means of survival

For Esther, 24, life in the street has been a bearable menace up until late 2015 when the economic situation began to bite on her ‘business.’

The Imo-state born mother of two lamented how ‘everything’ changed since economic regression.

“Since January 2016, customers no longer pay well, at least by December 2015 we are still making little cash. Before, some customers will dash you money after the service but we no longer have that. These days, some will even come and tell you they want to sleep with you overnight for just N1500.”

“Buhari don't want to help situation and all sort of things. Workers don't get their salaries when due. People saying hardship, time of Buhari. Things have been very hard for us this time.”

Like Esther, Ngozi Okoru, a mother of three has been unable to make both ends meet in recent times due to the economic situation. Having joined the sex business 3 years ago due to the sudden death of her mum and husband in 2013, she laments that the drawback in business has affected her such that the caretaker in charge of a room apartment where she pays a weekly rent of 7,000 has been on her neck for defaulting.

“We seldom pay house rent this period, the economy is so bad. Our director understands sometimes, he knows that the hardship is everywhere.”

“The truth is that I have kids and I have to take care of them. I lost my mum and husband in 2013 so I have to hustle to keep them going, at times, I plait hair for people to make little cash aside the night hustling. I am here to fight for my children, even though my parent couldn’t do that for me, I cannot let my children suffer”, she concluded affirmatively.

Few cash chasing expensive goods

Ngozi discussed how she managed to scale through the hurdles of economic hardship and sustaining the double digit inflation since first quarter of 2016. From a single meal per day to drastic cut in wears and reduction in price of sex for customers.

She said: “I have been eating once in a day mostly, because you have to watch before you do anything. Before recession, I do spend like N1500 per day but now I only manage N500 because our customers refuse to spend like before.”

Obalende red light district

For Bukola, a young Yoruba lady who trades sex at the Obalende arena, Lagos, said this reporter must have sex with her else she won’t grant the interview requested.

The arena is well known for its notoriety as hundreds of sex workers earn their daily bread between the hours of 7 and 12 a.m. daily.

To a newbie, the area is just another sex fantasy market as none of the sex workers own a room to herself but a closer relationship with them reveals more.

The price for sex starts from N500 upwards and the ‘customer’ will pay another N200 or N300 to use the small rooms crafted in plywood in most of the ancient buildings around.

chalet.jpg
Lagos, Obalende chalet - upper view of one of the rooms

Business has become drab lately and this partly explains why Bukola insisted on sex after entering one of the rooms with this reporter. In the end, she decided to answer some of the interview questions in her local dialect.

“I come here every day from Badagry every day to do and living this kind of life is not my choice. Life situations force me into this. Before I was introduce to this by a friend, I used to sell petty items in front of my house but trade has been so low that I can no longer provide food for myself and my daughter again. That is why I decided to make extra income here.

While the interview lasted, the owner of a popular chalet busted in one of the room, ranting loudly: “what are you guys doing there over an hour.

“Please come outside and allow another customer in. Just today that we have more customers, you people should not come and spoil market for us,” he said making a resounding effect as he shut the door.

Bukola also lamented on the low patronage as most of her old customers have decided to stay off the vicinity because of economic trouble currently facing the country.

“The economy is not good at all. If I have means to sustain my kid and pay house rent, I will stop this work.”

Buhari should help us!

Many believed that the administration of present would have helped to cater for the economy which largely depends on the survival of any business in Nigeria, even for the night workers. However, this seem not to be the case as lamentations takes over many of their conversations.

Some of the sex workers wants the federal government to operate an economic policy which will favour all.

For Bukola, President Buhari should maintain a stable price level for goods and services. “Before now, I make between N8, 000 to N12, 000 but this time, I barely make up to N2000 in a day.”

“I want the president to help us. If things are not expensive, our customers will be able to save money and make it trickle to us too.

Esther, on her own part wants the President to maintain a good economic policy and as well legalise the sex work in Nigeria. She explains how economic hardship has force working class ladies to sex hawking.

“Presently, many ladies who are employed have joined us. They come back from work, dress up and hit the street. I don’t blame them, some of them are owed months of salaries and they need to survive. The economy is bad, the president should help us. I also want Buhari to legalise prostitution. That will allow us to have a balanced price for our services.” she said.

Former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana has said that the Middle Belt minorities will not follow the North if Nigeria breaks up.

Gana said this while delivering a sermon at the St. Matthew’s Church, Maitama, Diocese of Abuja (Anglican Communion), in Abuja on Sunday.

He also berated Northern youths over the ultimatum given to Igbos to leave their region.

“They think when it comes to break-up, we will go along with the North. We have already told them that if they allow this country to break up, we are not going with the North.

“We are staying where we are. So, just take notice. If it comes to that, we will tell you that you are Arewa and we are ‘Middle-Belters.’

“We love Nigeria and it was changed to a federal system because of the minorities so that we can have a place.

“So, we love Nigeria but in the unlikely event that people want to go their way, the Arewa in the Sahel will go. But we will remain here in the Federal Republic of Nigeria,”
Gana, who is also the current National President of the Middle Belt Forum, said.

He also lambasted a former Vice-Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University and the spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, for supporting the quit notice issued by the northern youths.

“One of them, who also spoke is a former vice-chancellor. I thank God he didn’t sign my certificate. My own was signed by Prof. Ishaya Audu.

“How can a man of that stature, of that status, of that level of leadership, says he supports the youths in Kaduna to give to other legitimate citizens, an order to go? Who are you? Who says that?

“In this country, there are no second-class citizens. We are all first class. We are all sons and daughters of this land and that was why I decided to call a conference of all the minorities from 14 states and we had to state in clear words that the quit notice was totally unconstitutional. This is our home,” Gana said.

The expression equally applies to Nigeria and of course Yoruba political space: corrupt and inefficient government, recklessness, lawlessness everywhere, failed system, corrupt judiciary and broken criminal justice system, brazen robbery and endless looting of the treasury, violence here and there, fear, panic, strife, grieve, by citizens from day and night marauders on our streets, our roads, and in our communities who kill at will. Unyielding overt and covert hostilities and tensions between the federating parts that will ultimately bring Nigeria into her knees.

It's easy to hide from the fight for survival if the fight is mythic in scale. And at this particular time in our history, things feel apocalyptic. The Yoruba deal makers who made possible the merger and alliance of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and Congress for Political Change (CPC) which became All Progressives Congress (APC) that produced Muhammadu Buhari as the president, have become cartoonishly immobilized by playing second fiddle in national affairs particularly the future of Yoruba race vis-a-vis on-going debate on the possible breakup of Nigeria. The Hausas have made their position known on the breakup of Nigeria when the northern youths gave three-month ultimatum to Igbo to vacate their region. Similarly, Igbo people continues to agitate for Biafra. Only Yorubas among the three could not agree with one voice on where they stand on the future of Nigeria and most importantly, on the future of Oduduwa people.

The present makeup of Yoruba political leadership is populated by cowards. This is evident by its prevarication on the all important issue of whether or not Yoruba will stay or leave Nigeria. Their cowardice to stand up and articulate the fears and concerns of Yorubas as vocally expressed by the other two groups make Yoruba the sick man of Nigeria. Amazingly, Yoruba political leadership has not yet figured out how to respond to the issue. I believe they have two choices: they may either unify and rally Yorubas around a common cause, or express their support to one ungovernable, stunted, barbaric, primitive one Nigeria and see Yoruba dissolve into the political abyss.

This is not the time for Yoruba political leaders to play a wait-and-see game. As cowards, they are content to play the better of two evils without resistance when faced with a political dilemma. They have refused to move in the best interest of majority of Yorubas, too afraid to take a stand because it is politically expedient for them to drag their feet. There's no person among them with the spine, the backbone, the moral constitution to convince other groups and their lackeys that Yorubas are more than forging political mergers, alliances, or alignment. They too can be resolute in determining their own fate and destiny.

It seems to me they need a deeper understanding of what the word progressive means. Let me be clear: any leader or leaders who fail to take a stand on behalf of their people are not only sell-outs, but blindly ignorant at best and flatly dangerous at worst. They are content to hope that time will present an advantageous opportunity to resist the coming breakup of Nigeria. They are content to hope that they can continue to operate as though business as usual will be enough. Yoruba people demands this is the time for the political leaders to abandon politics as usual, and act boldly and swiftly. The most basic resistance from them is to say no to one Nigeria where our people are impoverished, bed ridden by disease, joblessness, hopelessness, and paralyzed by fear and insecurity, and pinned to a cul-de-sac where the pursuit of happiness is impossible. They should refuse to play nicely, but protest with radical fervor any advances that do not favor our cause and course.

To me, the present Yoruba political leaders are not leaders built for leading, not built to protect the rights of our people, but only to protect their political spoils. By the time they wake up from their stupor, however, there may not even be a Nigeria left to save. They'll only be able to thank their strategy of waiting for an opportune time to start resisting of being part a country that's fast vanishing before their eyes. They will regret that they have not started their own movement and preparation for the inevitability a long time ago. May be now they can join the rest of us who want to live without wondering if we'll ever survive this new hellhole they help put us in. The Yoruba leadership need to wake the hell up!

The cowardice of such leaders to declare their stand in unambiguous language will be an indelible and damning part of their legacy. But one thing I'm sure of : history doesn't forget the noisy voices once the dust settles, the winners and losers. When our history is written, we'll celebrate those who exhibited bravery, and we'll decide the aggressively malignant. We'll cheer the heroic. History tells us that leaders who let their people down at times like these are the ones who run and hide in the woods until the dust settles. Political self-preservation in dire circumstances is just about the same as cowardice.

We have a word for people who are dominated by fear. We call them cowards. J.R.R. Tolkien once wrote: “A man that flies from his fear may find that he has only taken a shortcut to meet it.”
