By Kikiowo Ileowo Reputable online news platform Sahara Reporters, has bombed the Nigerian Army, calling them a petty organisation with generals who specialise in deploying troops to attack the news organisation on twitter. In an exclusive chat with the publisher of the news organisation Omoyele Sowore, the New York based publisher told The Paradigm that he his not surprised the army has resorted to name calling. The Nigerian Army had earlier accused Sahara Reporters of working with the deadly Boko Haram terrorist group. Read: SaharaReporters Is Working For Boko Haram Terrorists, Nigerian Army Alleges Dismissing the allegation, Sowore said “the US Government was similarly accused of working for Boko Haram for refusing to sell helicopters to the Nigerian Army. “The Nigerian Army has been reduced to a petty organization, the other day they deployed their men chasing after newspaper delivery vans across Nigeria because some were critical of their handling of the anti-terrorism fight. Mr. Sowore further said that “Since they can’t find or arrest our copies, they’ve resorted to cheap blackmail. “The content of the petition clearly speaks to how Boko Haram could be defeated, states why they haven’t been defeated. “The petition indicted senior military officers including stating how a GOC was diverting money and food, and also building a mansion in Kaduna. But instead of investigating and acting on the content of the petition, the military hierarchy is engaging in subterfuge and deflecting public attention from the real issues. Read: Why We Run Away From Boko Haram Terrorists – Army Commander Writes Pres. Jonathan “We join the long line of conscientious watchdogs branded by the Nigerian authorities for saying and reporting the truth,” Sowore told The Paradigm. While speaking with this reporter, Sowore said that “The Nigerian Army needs to return to being a serious and respectable fighting force in Africa not an organization of generals whose only skills are limited to deploying troops to fight dirty on Twitter”. http://www.theparadigmng.com/?p=27098 |
on december 27, 2014 at 5:10 pm in news Facebook Share Twitter Share Mr Labaran Maku, a former Minister of Information, has given the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) one week to correct anomalies in the party’s governorship primary in the state.Maku gave the warning on Saturday while addressing youths in Wakama Villege of Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Area (LGA) of the state. He said that he had already written a petition to the appeal panel set up by the national headquarters of the party challenging the outcome of the primaries. He mentioned the irregularities that occurred during the primary to include shortchanging of delegates names in many LGAs, intimidation and threatening of delegates, among others. According to him, the fraud committed in the recent PDP governorship primaries in the Nasarawa state is worse than the one committed at party’s primaries in the state in 2007. He said that he would take a decision and seek for peoples mandate directly if steps were not taken to correct these anomalies in the next one week. “Since they think they can shortchange the names of delegates and intimidate them, we will see how they can shortchange and intimidate the members of the public,” he said. He vowed to move on with his ambition to contest the governorship seat of the state in 2015 and advised all those who thought they could deny the state of good leaders to have a rethink. Maku promised that he would restore peace in the state within six months and reposition the state for total transformation if elected as governor in 2015. He, however, urged all his supporters to support the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 for consolidation of development of the country. Maku said that Jonathan was one of the best presidents the country had ever produced using all parameters of developments. He called on his supporters to remain calm and law abiding, stressing that he would make decisions known publicly in the next week. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/nasarawa-guber-primaries-maku-gives-jonathan-pdp-one-week-ultimatum/?utm_source=&utm_medium=facebook |
What happened in 1993 between Alhaji Bashir Tofa and the late Chief Moshood Abiola of the blessed memory is about repeating itself in Nigeria in Nigeria today. Before the June 12 1993 presidential elections, handlers of Alhaji Bashir Tofa knew that comparing Bashir Tofa and Chief Abiola is like Apples and Oranges comparison. General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) Photo Credit: Sahara Reporters Media They knew that it is like comparing a giant with a dwarf. They knew that there is no basis for the comparison, and if it is a 100m dash Chief Abiola would have hit the tape while Tofa is at the starting point. The handlers led by Dr Doyin Okupe initiated a strategy to hit Chief Abiola from all corners and try to panel beat him to Tofa’s level. They failed miserably and woefully too. In the process of doing that they helped in no uncertain terms to catapult Chief Abiola to an unprecedented height. The rest is now history. In 2015, the reckless, useless and fraudulent historians and hack writers are at work again. This time it is a battle between President Jonathan and General Muhammadu Buhari. Buhari has contested presidential elections in 2003, 2007, 2011 and even though he did not make it, he gave a good account of himself. Though he was cheated out, he got millions of votes. He remained consistent, committed and courageous even in the face of all the troubles he had to go through. President Jonathan became a deputy Governor and through luck he became Governor, Vice president and now President and he would have ruled Nigeria for six years by next year. In 2015, Nigerians will take stock. Nigerians are looking back, they are looking at the present and as well as the future. In the past sixteen a lot of water has passed under the bridge. Nigerians have seen a lot. Devastated, pillaged and gang raped in all fronts, Nigerians are now thinking seriously. Shall we continue with this mess? Do we have an alternative? Can we do things differently? Is Nigeria a basket case? Are we helpless and hopeless? Are our destinies in our hands? Can we bring the change we all desire? Can we raise the bar of leadership in 2015? Can we recover our stolen country? Many hard questions demanding hard answers. After the 2011 elections, General Buhari said he may not seek the highest office again. But the crisis of leadership in our country has pushed him to throw his hat into the ring again. He has been compelled by the forces of history to step forward again and this time it is a different ball game. General Buhari of yesteryears is no longer the same Buhari of today. Things have changed. Time has changed. The calculations, equations and permutations have changed. Nigerians want Buhari to come clean up the Augean Stable PDP led federal government is leaving behind. GMB is coming to change the way we think and the way we work. But the enemies are at the door again. The thieves are at the door once again. They are with guns, bombs, Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (IBM), Rocket Launchers (RL), Warships, Jet fighters, Bows and Arrows, AK-47s, etc to shoot him down. They tell us he is a Religious Bigot, an Islamic fundamentalist, a semi-illiterate person, too old and too weak to get things done. They are still manufacturing every bad thing under the sun and are heaping them at GMB’s doorsteps. They are desperate, vicious, hopeless, helpless and potentially dangerous. They are doing everything humanly possible to stop and if possible to kill General Buhari. This is the reason why l want maximum security for General Buhari now. These meretricious mediocrity can pull the house down to remain in power. They are ready to slaughter thousands to remain. They are ready to continue to divide the country to remain in power. The corrupt people and criminals in the land will do everything humanly possible to stop Buhari. We have seen them at work. They know the consequences of General Buhari’s presidency. They know that he is a no nonsense man. They know he will fight criminals head on. They know he is going to remove feeding bottles from their mouths. They know he will do things differently. They know his puritanical disposition and they know he will stop at nothing to stop the mess in the land. General Buhari may be a religious bigot, he may be a fundamentalist, he may be a dictator, he may be an old man and semi illiterate, he may be everything they claim he is but these congenital liars from the pit of hell will kiss the dust. They will swallow their words when the chips are down. They will go down with their pathological lies when it dawns on them that no 21st century idiot will stop an idea whose time has come. They can call General Buhari names, they can call him anything but it will amount to nothing. Those who claimed they are PHD holders have disappointed us. Those who claimed they are not dictators have bruised and oppressed us. Those who claimed they are young brought shame and mediocrity to us. Leadership is not measured by height or age. Mr Webster wrote Webster Dictionary at the age of 80. Buhari remains a candidate to beat in the 2015 presidential election and I pity these characters who will dare to stand on his way. I pity those who did not know when the train left the station. I sympathize with those who did not know when to call a spade a spade. I fear for those who did not know that an idea whose time has come is here. I worry that history is leaving some people behind in Nigeria. I fear that some compound idiots who have ruined Nigeria for years are yet to come to terms with GMB’s towering personality. http://saharareporters.com/2014/12/27/general-buhari-unstoppable-now-joe-igbokwe |
The Opposition, All Progressives Congress, APC, will commence the ‘walk the ward’ campaign today, with the aim of reaching Nigerians at the ward level. This was disclosed by the Vice-presidential candidate of the party, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo via his twitter page. He said, “Good morning, Nigeria. We will be doing a “Walk The Ward” today, to meet and talk to Nigerians, about our vision. The communal spirit used to be so strong, but we all seem to be losing it. It’s time to get it back. We will try to visit your ward too…”. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/apc-begins-walk-ward-campaign/?utm_source=&utm_medium=facebook

OFFICIALS of the United States government have for the first time in months presented an explanation on the sudden termination of oil imports from Nigeria since July, an action which spurred concerns whether there were any possible political connotation especially because of the current strain in Nigeria-US diplomatic relations. Answering a question on the issue from The Guardian, during the week, White House Director of the US National Economic Council, Mr. Jeff Zients, said the cessation of oil imports from Nigeria had to do with the significant rise in US oil production. Zients, US Labor Secretary, Thomas Perez, and White House Policy Council Director, Cecelia Munoz, were addressing a few US journalists on Thursday afternoon on the state of the American economy when The Guardian raised the question wondering why the US brought oil imports from Nigeria to a complete zero, while still importing oil from Saudi Arabia and other major oil producing countries. According to the White House Economic Council Director, “across the last several years, US oil production has ramped up significantly by more than 50 percent to now over eight and a half million barrels per day.” He explained that such a high turn up in local US oil production “has now dramatically reduced our dependency on imports,” Zients noted, adding that “in fact, we now produce more here than we import.” The White House official stated that the development is consistent with President Barack Obama’s energy strategy, which has changed “quite a bit over the last few years as we are much less dependent on oil imports.” That strategy has not only left Nigeria in the lurch, but has generally also driven down the international market price of oil to a ridiculous $60 range by the close of trading on Friday. Oil price, which soared around $100 in September, is now $56.52 for the WTI Crude and $61.38 for the Brent Crude oil. But Zients and the other US officials at the press briefing did not address the issue of the ongoing importation from other oil producing nations, including OPEC members like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and non-OPEC suppliers like Canada. In fact, as at last month, it was reported that, while US completely halted oil imports from Nigeria, it increased its importation from those three countries. The reduction of US oil importation from Nigeria to zero is the very first time since 1973 that the US did not import oil from Nigeria. US Shale oil production is responsible for the infusion of “light, sweet crude,” said to be similar to Nigeria’s Bonny Light oil, and US refineries are said to have preferred buying the locally produced oil, which is cheaper than Nigeria’s light crude. Before Zients explanation on Thursday, there have been muted concerns whether the decision to completely end oil importation from Nigeria has any political connotation. For instance, a German top bank, Deutsche Bank had commented last month that “as if the recent drop in oil prices was not enough bad news for Nigeria’s economy, recent data show the US completely stopped importing crude oil from Nigeria. This marks a dramatic reversal for Africa’s largest economy, which in 2010 was still among America’s top 5 oil suppliers and exported at its peak 1.3m barrels per day to the United States.” The German bank analysis further questioned why Nigeria was singled out, an aspect of the question posed by The Guardian to which the US government officials did not address. According to Deutsche Bank, the decline in US imports from Nigeria, “proceeded much faster than for the US’ other major suppliers.’ It is the rather drastic and complete zero oil imports from Nigeria that suggested a possible political connotation, which was however left unexplained by Zients. Observers say it is not unlikely that oil imports termination with Nigeria and the refusal of the US government to sell weapons to Nigeria to fight Boko Haram might both be political signals from President Barack Obama to the Nigerian presidency as it can be seen as demonstration of a lack of commitment by the US government to a supposed strategic partner —Nigeria — in Africa. The Obama administration’s outright refusal to approve the sale of specific military equipment to Nigeria, in a clear-cut public renunciation of the Nigerian military and security apparatus which requested the okay from the US Defense department is also a potential dampener to US claims of a thriving diplomatic relationship with Nigeria. First, it was the US Ambassador in Nigeria who confirmed that the country would not okay the weapons sales to Nigeria, and then the State Department in response to Nigeria’s Ambassador’s complaints on the issue. This particular refusal is sending clear indications that there are strong oppositional voices against President Jonathan in the White House, the State Department and Pentagon, causing further strain between Nigeria and the American governments, according to knowledgeable US sources. Last month, Nigeria’s US Ambassador had to openly criticise the US government for not approving the sales of Cobra fighter jets to Nigeria to help fight the Boko Haram insurgency at a meeting he had with the influential US Council for Foreign Relations in his office. Adefuye, US sources say was expending his far-reaching influence with top US government officials in an apparent last-ditch effort to change the tone of the Obama administration towards the Jonathan presidency. In fact, authoritative US sources said the denouncement of the military sale and the abandonment of the highly valued Nigerian crude oil by US oil future traders recently are happening at a time when the offices of National Security Adviser and Finance Minister of Nigeria are spending millions of dollars to retain US lobbyists in Washington DC to help plead the case of the Jonathan presidency without much success. Explaining the desperation from the Nigerian government over the need for such lobbyists, a source from the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Abuja also said while the federal government through the office of the NSA and Finance Ministry were paying millions for lobbyists, the salaries of Nigerian diplomats were still backlogged, including in the US. http://ngrguardiannews.com/lead-story/191117-why-we-stopped-buying-nigeria-s-oil-by-white-house

Dr Ugoji Ebujo Widespread anomie prevalent in Nigeria, occasioned by a virtual dilapidation of the societal ethical and moral framework, has literally squelched any social appetite for comparative sociological analysis of any segment of the Nigerian society and a corresponding segment of any foreign country even if that country is Somalia . Any such study invariably ends as an exercise in rendition of woes, lamentations and pity. Our country once mighty have fallen and is falling. The decay is systemic and deep-seated and widespread . Our political system is heavily infected by corruption and the educational system is strangulated by poor funding. But our education suffers from much more. Teachers groan and moan, deride politicians and claim moral indignation but they are equally culpable for the rot that has beset us. The university of Ghana and the University of Nigeria have so much in common besides being named after their respective countries. They were both conceived during the colonial era and they have main campuses located on hills, Legon and Nsukka . Both have very large student population of between 35000 and 38000. They have regional reputations and have produced high quality graduates who have played great roles in their societies. A brief stay in each university last year afforded me an opportunity to reflect on the two societies through those institutions . In Legon, it was an experience of efficiency, culture and aesthetics. All buildings were painted and all were white and all had red roofs and all windows black. Flowers and hedges were manicured and trees added beauty to the environment. Order was evident and everything showed agelessness because the new and the old abided by a laid down code. The library was quaint but noiseless, lacked modern books but had good ambience. The hostels showed they have not lacked care and the newer ones were quite modern. But whether old or new , modern or ancient the colour codes were maintained and all the roofs were red. The Guest house was sparsely furnished but functional and had good landscaping . Order and serenity were evident. The internet wifi system was good. Nsukka was a different experience. A multitude of Uncompleted projects littered everywhere, grasses had Turned to bushes and hedges were untrammeled, free and wild. Many buildings were pale, washed and battered. Hostels were in shambles . The Enugu campus that houses faculties of Law and Medicine has no pipe borne water. The state of the toilet facilities in Enugu campus can only be imagined. A chat with some female students of that campus revealed that students have buckets for defecating. They defecate in the open, along the toilet corridor, many at a time, facing themselves, into buckets and hurl the contents afterward into the toilet Bowls, leaving trails of feces for the cleaners who come when they wish to effect as much cleaning as they can. The buckets are subsequently rinsed with scarce water ,which they have to buy , and kept in the rooms until when again needed. Those who cannot stand the bucket idea defecate into polythene bags and fling them onto a heap behind the hostels. That heap has survived generations . Its pathetic. An Alumni exists but the atrocity has persisted. The Vice chancellors residence is state of the art, new. The vice chancellor has managed to ensconce himself in five star comfort while students are dehumanized . Dont ask me who is being groomed there. Perhaps pit toilets , since they cannot have water, may actually restore some dignity. Its that bad. Students learning early how to be wild. The school’s internet network system functions so abysmally slowly that I could not use it . Lecturers and students can hardly do meaningful online researches in that remote location. A senior lecturer told me she sends articles to foreign journals using her blackberry phone. That is the story of Nigeria . And ironically the school’s motto reads: To restore the dignity of man. Ghanas 2015 budget is 50 percent donor funded, Nigeria is rich and lives on her own money. Legon is to a great extent insulated from political and local administrative changes because Legon has a tradition. A tradition that all must follow. That entrenched tradition is the institution. So while projects in Legon are completed before others are started, and buildings are repainted yearly, Nsukka is a picture of haphazardness and planlessness. An environment of order and good tradition will culture , nurture and instill order and virtue in young minds but if you sow disorder , you will reap disorder. Often Nigerian academics sneer at the politicians claiming they are superficial, flimsy, selfish, shortsighted and wasteful. But Nsukka indicts Our academics. And Its not just about funding. And Nsukka is not alone ,other public universities are perhaps worse. Nsukka is a reflection of our society .University of Ghana indicts all of us. And we shamelessly now troop there in droves in search of better tertiary education for our children. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/shocker-nigerian-university-students-defecate-open/#sthash.aYHRTXCq.dpuf

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK DEC 24, 2014 823 41 0 The South East All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated Ndigbo for topping the list of donors to the Buhari Support Organization Campaign Fund, a peoples' contribution to General Muhammadu Buhari’s (GMB) war chest for the 2015 presidential election. Muhammadu Buhari with son of former Nigerian Nnamdi Azikiwe “We are happy to announce that when the managers of the First Bank of Nigeria warehoused fund unveiled N54 million so far realized, Ndigbo topped the list of the highest donors; a unique account that has GMB as the only signatory,” APC South East spokesman Osita Okechukwu said in a statement. “By topping the donor list, Ndigbo has graciously demonstrated that the celestial bond between GMB and the Nigerian Masses and the Middle Class is Pan-Nigeria and not sectional as insinuated,” he said. He noted that the Buhari Campaign Support Fund has General Buhari as the sole signatory for purposes of transparency, and is aimed at assisting the candidate, who refused to enrich himself while in office, to prosecute his presidential campaign. “The South East APC salutes our people who embrace the Buhari-Bandwagon-Vehicle for Salvation; for it is our candid opinion that it is less than wise for the hard working and enterprising Ndigbo to election after election put all our eggs in one basket,” Okechukwu said. http://saharareporters.com/2014/12/24/apc-south-east-salutes-ndigbo-emerging-highest-donors-gmb-support-fund |
Ijaw youths have threatened to attack supporters of the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in southern part of Nigeria. The youths said on Sunday that they would visit Buhari’s supporters in the South with violence if the loyalists of President Goodluck Jonathan should be attacked in the North. The Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide said the decision to attack Buhari’s supporters was informed by reports that some persons in the North had resorted to sending open threat messages to pro-Jonathan governors and other supporters. In a statement by the IYC spokesperson, Mr. Eric Omare, the youths said, “All Nigerians irrespective of his or her place of origin has a right to contest for the presidency of Nigeria and Nigerians have a right to support any candidate of their choice without molestation. “It would be recalled that hundreds of Nigerians, especially NYSC members were killed and properties worth millions of naira destroyed in the aftermath of the 2011 elections as a result of similar undemocratic disposition of some elements in the North.” “We of southern Nigeria have not at any time threatened or attacked supporters of General Buhari; hence any threat or attack on supporters of President Jonathan in the north would be visited with proportionate action from us in the south. “Governors Amaechi, (Rochas) Okorocha and (Adams) Oshiomole; Timipre Silva, John Oyegun, Bola Tinubu and other supporters of General Buhari in southern Nigeria are going about their campaigns without any molestation from southerners. “Enough is enough for those who promised and are making northern Nigeria ungovernable for President Jonathan. If they want their own country, let them say so as we can no longer accept the ‘Extreme North Must Rule’ mentality of some northerners.” http://www.punchng.com/news/ijaw-youths-threaten-attack-on-buharis-supporters/ |

In the presidential media declaration of Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe told the audience that Buhari and APC want's to take Nigeria back to the 80's and he asked, Do you want the Nigeria of the 80's? And i want to answer that question. The answer is YES!!!, But like seriously ![]() Doesn't Doyin Okupe know that in the 80s, we slept with our doors open without fear? Doesn't Doyin Okupe know that in the 80s, the naira was almost equivalent to the dollar? Doesn't Doyin Okupe know that in the 80s we had functioning refineries?? Doesn't Doyin Okupe know that in the 80s the price of fuel was almost free?? Doesn't Doyin Okupe know that in 80s, Generators were something we distantly heard about?? Doesn't Doyin Okupe know that in the 80s, religious bigotry never existed?? ....the questions are open ended, the goodies of the 80s are endless. May God return the Nigeria of the 80s, precisely that of 83-85. Amen! |
Christians in the North have asked President Goodluck Jonathan to resign over his comment on Boko Haram. Jonathan was quoted to have said he could not crush the Islamic sect because “they are our siblings and you cannot set the army to wipe out your family”. In a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Sunday Oibe, the Northern Christian Association of Nigeria said the comments credited to Jonathan was an indication that the country was in a helpless situation as the President “does not seem to understand the aim of the sect to destabilise his administration.” According to the CAN, it is shocking for the President to say he will not deploy the military to deal with terrorist who have been killing other Nigerians and threatening the corporate existence of the country. The body argued that it was clear that the President has been shielding the group at the expense of the lives of innocent people, urging Nigerians to have a rethink on the type of president that is governing the country at moment. The statement read in part, “What he is telling us now is that there is nothing he can do about it, but we know that the Federal Government has the capacity to stop the madness being unleashed on Nigerians. However, it is now obvious that the President will rather shield criminals. “Every Nigerian can recall how former President Olusegun Obasanjo reacted when the Niger Delta militants attacked soldiers in Udi. Even though the militants were asking for their legitimate right, Obasanjo dealt with them squarely for resorting to criminality in agitating for their right. No country in the world will allow its soldiers, trained to defend the territorial integrity of the nation to be killed by a gang of criminals and get away with it. “Nigerians can also recall that in Zaki – Biam, Benue state, the same Obasanjo as President sent troops to deal ruthlessly with the people there for allegedly killing soldiers. “Now on a daily basis soldiers, police and other security personnel are being killed by Boko Haram members and the President has the effrontery to tell us that these murderers are members of the family and he cannot mobilise the army to deal with them. “Jonathan has failed us Christians, he has failed Nigerians and he should resign because by this statement, it is very clear that he is not capable of handling the danger pose by the Boko Haram insurgency.” Also, the Anglican Communion, Kaduna Diocese said illiteracy, unemployment and poverty in the North were not responsible for various crises in the region. In a 10-point – communiqué issued at the end of the 1st session of the 19th Synod of the Diocese and signed by the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev Josiah Idowu –Fearon, insisted that illiteracy, poverty and unemployment were never the cause of the sundry crises in the region as many were wont to believe. http://www.punchng.com/news/jonathan-should-resign-northern-can/ |

(Deuteronomy 21:10-14 NAB) "When you go out to war against your enemies and the LORD, your God, delivers them into your hand, so that you take captives, if you see a comely woman among the captives and become so enamored of her that you wish to have her as wife, you may take her home to your house. But before she may live there, she must shave her head and pare her nails and lay aside her captive's garb. After she has mourned her father and mother for a full month, you may have relations with her, and you shall be her husband and she shall be your wife. However, if later on you lose your liking for her, you shall give her her freedom, if she wishes it; but you shall not sell her or enslave her, since she was married to you under compulsion." |
What will a christian brothers say about this: (Judges 21:10-24 NLT) So they sent twelve thousand warriors to Jabesh- gilead with orders to kill everyone there, including women and children. "This is what you are to do," they said. "Completely destroy all the males and every woman who is not a virgin." Among the residents of Jabesh-gilead they found four hundred young virgins who had never slept with a man, and they brought them to the camp at Shiloh in the land of Canaan. The Israelite assembly sent a peace delegation to the little remnant of Benjamin who were living at the rock of Rimmon. Then the men of Benjamin returned to their homes, and the four hundred women of Jabesh-gilead who were spared were given to them as wives. But there were not enough women for all of them. The people felt sorry for Benjamin because the LORD had left this gap in the tribes of Israel. So the Israelite leaders asked, "How can we find wives for the few who remain, since all the women of the tribe of Benjamin are dead? There must be heirs for the survivors so that an entire tribe of Israel will not be lost forever. But we cannot give them our own daughters in marriage because we have sworn with a solemn oath that anyone who does this will fall under God's curse." Then they thought of the annual festival of the LORD held in Shiloh, between Lebonah and Bethel, along the east side of the road that goes from Bethel to Shechem. They told the men of Benjamin who still needed wives, "Go and hide in the vineyards. When the women of Shiloh come out for their dances, rush out from the vineyards, and each of you can take one of them home to be your wife! And when their fathers and brothers come to us in protest, we will tell them, 'Please be understanding. Let them have your daughters, for we didn't find enough wives for them when we destroyed Jabesh-gilead. And you are not guilty of breaking the vow since you did not give your daughters in marriage to them.'" So the men of Benjamin did as they were told. They kidnapped the women who took part in the celebration and carried them off to the land of their own inheritance. Then they rebuilt their towns and lived in them. So the assembly of Israel departed by tribes and families, and they returned to their own homes. O |
Former Governor of Borno state, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has denied having any links with the Russian Cargo plane said be carrying attack helicopters and other military hardwares that was detained at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport even though he admitted that he flew to the same airport on Saturday, the day the Russian plane was detained. Sheriff addressing audience at press conference Photo Credit: Sahara Reporters Media The former Governor said his visit to Kano which he claimed was in company of "some friends" was to connect a flight to Abuja after arriving from Katsina where he attended a wedding. He said he flew to Kano from Katsina as according to him, there was no direct flight from Katsina to Abuja. Sheriff's statement circulated to journalists in Maiduguri yesterday, didn't say whether he flew to Kano on a commercial or private plane, though his claim that there was no direct plane from Katsina to Kano seem to suggest he might have joined a commercial aircraft. The former Governor is however known to have private jets which he uses to fly to most destinations as he rarely in Nigeria. The former Governor’s statement was in reaction to an online news published by Premium Times on Sunday, alleging that he was in Kano on Saturday and held secret meetings aimed at freeing the detained Russian Cargo plane, alluding to a link between Sheriff and the Cargo plane. Sheriff, though didn't specify how long his transit in Kano airport was, said he left Kano before night as against the claim of the media report that he held meeting at about 10pm with some officials in an attempt to free the detained Russian Cargo plane. "At the risk of exposing my private programme and movement last week, I like to say, all the same, that I left Abuja for Katsina last Thursday for the wedding ceremony of Muhammed, son of my friend Lamai Hassan who died 20 years ago. After the wedding, I needed to return to Abuja on Saturday with other friends through the Kano International Airport, since there was no direct flight from Katsina. The alibi I had was a meeting that I attended at the Transcorp Hotel, Abuja at 9.00pm on Saturday; whereas the report quoted an unreal source that I visited the Kano International Airport at 10.00pm same day!. What a report! What incongruity! What a blatant lie! Indeed, I dare anyone who said he saw me at the Airport having anything to do with the detained Aircraft to produce evidence, much as I will be instructing my legal team to take steps towards defending my name on this issue. I found it most interesting that the same Premium Times which insinuated that I visited the Kano International Airport to lobby for the release of the Aircraft, within a short spate of time, reported that Russia had claimed ownership, while the cargo was hired by France for delivery of military equipment in the Central African Republic. I wonder what business I had with either Russia or France to be negotiating the release of the detained Aircraft, even at an odd time suggested by Premium Times. Can someone just pay attention to the contradictions in the two reports published by Premium Times which sought to put me on the spot, needlessly? It is against this background that I like to advise our brothers and sisters in the pen profession to refrain from giving journalism a bad image in Nigeria. The manner Journalism is practiced in civilized climes makes the profession to earn respect with a high rating as the Fourth Estate of the Realm. We need to take a cue from this if we are to use the media to help ensure the growth and development of Nigeria. It amounts to making Journalism over- reach itself as a profession when practitioners willfully submit themselves to the agenda of Pull Him Down, Character assassination, bearing of false witness and peddling of falsehood in general. To round up, I will not be tired of dismissing every report linking me with terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria. On this note, I reiterate that as a Nigerian who had served two tenures in the Senate and two terms as a governor of Borno State, I have not, and I will never have anything to do with a group or individuals who like to pull down Nigeria or any part of it, while I say categorically again that I have nothing to do with terrorists and insurgents in any part of Nigeria, as my conscience can bear me witness." The statement said. The former Governor described as completely false the Premium Times online report captioned, “Ex-Borno Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, In Secret Visit To Arms-laden Chad-bound Plane Detained In Nigeria”. Sheriff said he read the story "with consternation" much as he also said, "I felt scandalized to be linked again to an issue I absolutely knew nothing about. For me, the publication has a ring of a conspiracy meant to dragging my name in the mud by some cowardly, malicious and unschooled political rivals who, in their little minds, love to engage ill-trained media persons to peddle lies against me. "I hereby use this means to say to my adversaries anywhere they may be that their evil motives to soil may name and hard earned reputation will not stand. Those who are drawn into the conspiracy to hack me down under any guise will always fail as much I am certain that they will continue to get soaked in the whirlpool of self- delusion and hopelessness. "Let me declare with strong emphasis that the report in the Premium Times which oozes strong elements of libel is utterly untrue, illogical, malicious and very distasteful. The authors, if anything, only succeeded in exposing their ignorance, lack of integrity and gross misconduct rooted in their feeble grab of the basic tenets of journalism which they were taught to uphold. "I had nothing whatsoever to do with the grounded foreign Aircraft in Kano, a reason the Premium Times report fell flat in deceit and misinformation. http://saharareporters.com/2014/12/08/ex-governor-ali-modu-sheriff-admits-flying-kano-saturday-after-russian-cargo-plane-was |

By Oceherome Nnanna Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is haunting his hand-picked former protégé, President Goodluck Jonathan, like a malevolent ghost. You may wonder why OBJ, after four years as a military ruler and another eight years as an elected president, is still butting like a stubborn, demon-possessed ram at the doors of Aso Villa, Abuja? What does he still want? What did he forget in the seat of power after occupying it for 12 years? Why can’t he just go home and enjoy his new-found affluence after his latest eight years as president during which he doubled as Minister of Petroleum Resource for six years? If you put this question before Obasanjo he will tell you it is because he “loves” Nigeria; he is a great “nationalist”, and he cannot keep quiet when things are going wrong. He will conveniently hide the fact that he is the cause of many of our problems. Political interests He will not accept responsibility. Instead, he will divert attention and point accusing fingers at others, making accusations that he is also guilty of a million times over. In the process, Obasanjo succeeds in hoodwinking a few gullible, uninformed Nigerians and raises applause among those whose political interests resonate with his objective of bringing down a sitting president. *Olugegun Obasanjo But those of us who know him probably more than he knows himself are not carried away. We know his motives and methods all too well. Obasanjo’s estranged daughter, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, in a letter in January this year in which she disowned her father, told us Obasanjo believes in his heart he “owns” Nigeria. President Jonathan, in his own angry rejoinder to a windy, scathing attack by Obasanjo, likened the Ota poultry farmer to a goat seller who, after selling his goat and pocketing the money, still holds on to the goat’s tether rope. In other words, Obasanjo, after handpicking and installing people in power, seeks to control them. When they refuse to be at his beck and call, he starts to fight dirty in the public square because he has come to see the Nigerian seat of power as his personal booty. After all, he fought the civil war and collected the instrument of surrender from Biafra. We have since heard the truth about how Obasanjo fought that war. One of the civil war commanders, Brigadier Godwin Alabi-Isama, in his book: The Tragedy of Victory , actually described OBJ as a coward. In various interviews after the book was published, he disclosed that Obasanjo has bullet wounds on his buttocks. This means he was shot while running away from enemy onslaught! But he makes loud noises about his civil war “heroism” and feels entitled to exclusive freebooting on our national estate. Obasanjo is confronting GEJ because the president is a gentleman. He could not try it with the late President Umaru Yar’ Adua, who was much tougher and savvier in the game of power than Jonathan. As sick as Yar’Adua was, he was able to curtail Obasanjo’s goat-seller mentality and keep him tightly leashed. Those were the days when people like Nasir el Rufai actually bolted to America and only returned to become a troublemaker because Jonathan is a gentleman. This same Obasanjo troubled General Babangida when the latter was in power because Babangida respected him. But when he tried it with General Abacha, we know what happened. Obasanjo came out of jail in 1998 looking like an exhumed corpse. Besides, Obasanjo is a master in the game of hypocrisy. He likes to call other people thieves, and he is the first to accuse another person of being corrupt. The idea is to divert attention from his own unquantifiable deeds that fabulously enriched him, both as a military leader and elected president. Sound Sultan, one of Nigeria’s most creative avant-garde musicians, has a song he entitled: “One day bushmeat go catch de hunter “. In it he sang: “Ole de shout ole”. When you catch a pickpocket red-handed, to avoid being lynched he begins to shout: “ole!, ole!!” (Thief!Thief!!).Was it not under Obasanjo that bags of money meant to induce lawmakers to impeach a political enemy of the president were displayed in the House of Representatives? Yet he calls MPs “looters”. When Abacha raised the pump prices of petroleum in 1994 he established the Petroleum Trust Fund, PTF and used the proceeds to intervene in infrastructural reconstruction. Where did Obasanjo put proceeds of eight price hikes that took fuel price from N22 to N65 per litre over eight years? At least, Jonathan ploughs back his own increase from N65 to N97 into a fuel subsidy regime that guarantees steady fuel supply and funds for the implementation of Subsidy Re- investment Programmes, SURE-P, nationwide. Fuel subsidy was bedevilled by corruption, but it is working. We are enjoying it. But we can’t see anything Obasanjo did with his own extra N43 per litre. Billions were sunk into the refineries but they never worked. Billions were wasted on Independent Power Plants, but turbines were imported and left for years at the ports because they could not be moved inland. Government companies were sold for pennies to fronts and cronies. But in four years, Jonathan has laid down a clear agenda to overcome the challenges of the power sector. It is very slow-going, but is moving forward, with zero reports of corruption in the sector which is now mainly in private hands. Yes indeed, Jonathan has his problems as a leader. He is too laid back about fighting corruption. It doesn’t seem to bother him. President Jonathan is too much in the background as my leader. I like my leaders there up front, inspiring me with words, deeds and examples. I like them tough and decisive, but always putting the interest of the nation first. I don’t like walking up front and looking back for my leader. Thirdly, I don’t like the way Jonathan has handled Boko Haram. If he had done the needful things two years ago, we would not have the second largest number of displaced persons in the world, with parts of our territory under devilish Salafist Islamists. I also have reasons to believe that if the Jonathan regime was given the support it needed, it would have recorded more successes than any other in our history. The quest by regional hawks to snatch power by all means, tied to the Boko Haram terror war and jackal-like opposition, have taken a toll on all of us. No regime has been sabotaged by the same people it strives to save from their enemies the way some Northern leaders have undermined the Jonathan regime. People who destroyed Nigeria in their 40 years of total brigandage are ganging up as the “opposition” to return us to where they left us in 1999, and Obasanjo has become their fire-eating generalissimo. If Jonathan is a problem, Obasanjo created it by selecting him to pair with a terminally ill Yar’Adua, so that he (OBJ) would call the shots from Ota. Yar’ Adua and Jonathan were his “Plan B” after he failed to grab third term. I agree with former Speaker, House of Representatives, Umar Ghali Na’Abba, that if Obasanjo looks into the mirror he will see the trouble with Nigeria. The goat seller wants his goat back after pocketing his profit. Well, Nigeria is not Obasanjo’s goat. The earlier he gets the message the better for him – and us all. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/obj-prowling-goat-seller/#sthash.8yUovF6a.dpuf |
By Jimitota Onoyume About eleven persons were feared dead in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba Egbema Ndoni local government area of Rivers State, following a shooting spree by gunmen who stormed the area Friday night and yesterday afternoon. Community sources told Sunday Vanguard that the gunmen, who wore masks, shot indiscriminately for several hours on Friday night, adding that they later fled when men of the Joint Task Force, JTF, engaged them in a shootout. The gun were said to have regrouped, yesterday afternoon, to continue the shooting at the market. Sources feared the shooting may not be unconnected with plans by some politicians to hijack the collection of Permanent Voter Cards which commenced in the area on Friday. File: Port Harcourt during a recent crisis. Among those killed, sources said, was a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who was simply identified as Godspower. The Chairman of the local government area, Mr Austin Ayamadu, who condemned the incident, appealed to residents to remain calm, assuring that security men had taken charge of the area. Ayamadu said the gunmen went from one street to the other shooting before security men swung into action. The Chairman, who could not confirm the death toll, said some persons died in the incident. “Unknown gunmen invaded Omoku and started by killing an elder of the APC and some other people were also killed. The figure I cannot immediately say because of the security situation, but it is more than five”, he said. Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, who confirmed the development, said it was a clash between rival cult groups, stressing that security men were on top of the situation. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/11/11-feared-killed-rivers-gun-attack/?utm_source=&utm_medium=facebook |
Mark behind delay in Jonathan’s impeachment – APC Senator on november 29, 2014 at 10:39 am in news Facebook Share Twitter Share By Johnbosco Agbakwuru, Abuja An All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator yesterday told Saturday Vanguard that the leadership of the Senate was behind the delay in the commencement of impeachment proceedings against President Goodluck Jonathan, as the Senate President, David Mark and his principle officers had always pleaded for calm and thwarted previous moves. The Senator, who spoke on condition of anonymity for now pending when those behind the impeachment plot will officially make open their identity, noted that the agitation to commence the impeachment proceedings on the President had been in the senate but was triggered by the recent police invasion and the poor state of the nation’s economy and the insecurity in North East. He alleged that, “Since President Goodluck Jonathan wants to destroy the country because of personal ambition, impeachment is the only option left to show him the way out so that efforts of our fore fathers would not go in vain.” He claimed that the President had committed grievous impeachable offences which if ignored would lead to the destruction of the country, pointing out that among the offences included none implementation of the budget since 2011, the crumbling of the economy, the increasing security challenges and the use of security operatives to harass and intimidate perceived opponents of government. The APC Senator said the move was not a party affair rather a collective effort that cuts through political lines to save Nigeria from imminent collapse, adding that as at the time he was appending his signature on the impeachment list, seven Senators of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, signed in his presence. Reminded that the process was a rigorous one that needed much time, he said that they were aware of that and were doing everything possible to ensure that it was followed and executed to the end. There were reports that about 63 Senators had signed for the impeachment of the President, but two die-hard PDP supporters in the Senate had told Saturday Vanguard some of the PDP Senators had decided to consider the interest of the masses while considering any issue unlike before where the interest of the party was first considered. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/11/mark-behind-delay-jonathans-impeachment-apc-senator/?utm_source=&utm_medium=facebook |

Good morning friends! This is a thank you note for the tremendous support and goodwill our campaign is enjoying since the beginning of our meet-the-delegate nationwide tour. Today, our country faces three existential threats: insecurity, disunity and corrupt leadership. On all fronts, Nigeria is being attacked with vicious intensity. Its territorial integrity is being desecrated by savaged terrorists, its unity is being torn to shreds by a divisive leadership, and its treasury and future prosperity are being squandered by an I-don't-give-a-damn, stealing- is-not-corruption ruling class. I am in politics to confront all these evils: to restore our territorial integrity, rebuild our unity, and sanitise governance. I am for tolerance, pluralism and cooperation. My presidency, if elected, will work towards dismantling all barriers to national unity. I will be firm and fair to all, and will treat every Nigerian equally irrespective of his party, tribe, religion or region. I strongly believe that my candidacy will serve as the foundation for a truly united Nigeria. Join the movement for a truly united Nigeria! # SupportBuhari # OneNigeria # APCChange! |

O ver the weekend, a team of armed robbers is reported to have charged the law firm of Wahab Olatoye, a plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging President Jonathan's eligibility in the 2015 general elections, Leadership newspaper reports. President Goodluck Jonathan Breaking in through the ceiling, the thieves allegedly robbed and ransacked the office, destroying computer systems and safes. Most critically, the robbers stole files containing vital court documents regarding the case. Olatoye and a colleague had previously sought an order from a Federal High Court in Abuja to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from allowing President Jonathan and Vice President Sambo to re- contest. The plaintiffs argued that by the virtue of the Nigerian Constitution, the President and the Vice President were taken to have been elected for one single, four year term. “It is really a great surprise to me, when I was called on Saturday morning that my office had been burgled by yet to be identified persons. It was my office alone that was burgled out of all the offices in the plaza. The thieves came in through the ceiling and ransacked all the files in my office. “Although, they made away with some amount of money I left in the office, they also took away some documents, especially the ones I am using in pursuing my case against the eligibility of President Goodluck Jonathan. “As a plaintiff in the matter and a legal practitioner, there are some documents I need to hand over to my lawyers which I kept in the office. All my computer systems in the office were also destroyed, the office safe was also destroyed. “The matter have been reported to the FCDA police station in Garki, and the police have promised to come around on Monday morning for further investigation,” Olatoye stated. Olatoye and his colleague launched their suit against Jonathan on the provisions of sections 132(1), 135(2)(a) and (b), 137(1)(b), 142(1) and (2) of the Constitution and the Supreme Court decisions. http://saharareporters.com/2014/11/24/armed-robbers-ransack-law-firm-steal-legal-documents-challenging-jonathan’s-2015 |
