PoliticsRivers Crisis Is Regrettable- President Jonathan by Anazp(op): 5:46pm On Jul 11, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan has
expressed concern over the recent
political developments in Rivers
State and called on all those
involved in the crises to show
greater respect for the constitution
and the rule of law.
In a statement by presidential
spokesman, Reuben Abati, President
Jonathan said the political
developments in the state is
untoward and regrettable.
He urged members of the State
House of Assembly and all other
political gladiators in the state to put
the interests of the state and the
nation above their personal egos
and ambitions which he said seems
to have gotten in the way of their
expected commitment to uphold the
principles of democracy and good
governance.
The President called on all those
who were remotely or directly
involved in heightening political
tension in the State to put an
immediate end to their actions
which are capable of plunging Rivers
State into public disorder and strive
to settle their political differences
without further recourse to barbaric
acts of violence.
He said he expected all members of
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
in Rivers State, irrespective of their
current affiliations or loyalties, to
comport themselves with greater
restraint while efforts continue to
resolve existing differences and
restore internal harmony to the
state branch of the party.
The Presidency denied alleged
involvement of the President in the
crises, stating that there is
“absolutely no factual basis for
suggestions that some of the
politicians involved in the current
dispute are acting at the behest of
the President.”
“President Jonathan certainly did not
instigate the crisis in the Rivers State
House of Assembly and as President
of the nation, he will never support
any actions that negate his avowed
commitment to the rule of law. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/news-update/rivers-pdp-crises-regrettable-jonathan/

PoliticsWhy Gani Opposed Obasanjo On UN Seat Bid- FEMI FALANA by Anazp(op): 2:14am On Jul 11, 2013
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria and
human rights activist, Mr. Femi
Falana, has given reasons why he
teamed up with the late Chief Gani
Fawehinmi to thwart former
President Olusegun Obasanjo’s bid
to become the Secretary-General of
the United Nations.
Obasanjo, who was Nigeria’s military
ruler between 1976 and 1979
following the assassination of
General Murtala Muhammed, failed
in his bid to become UN Secretary-
General in 1991.
Falana said they decided to tow that
line in view of the earlier
undemocratic activities of the former
President. Specififically, he said
Fawehinmi and himself hinged
Obasanjo’s inappropriateness for the
post on the fact that he (Obasanjo),
at that time, had a detention camp
on his Ota Farm, where he was
detaining people illegally.
He said this while urging lawyers to
uphold public interest litigation
during the First Gani Fawehinmi
Colloquium on Wednesday in Lagos.
Falana explained that Fawehinmi
fought for the democratisation of
law in defence of the masses and
protested the excesses of
government officials when
necessary.
He said, “There was a time the
former President Obasanjo sued us –
Gani and I- for libel. He wanted to go
to the United Nations as secretary-
general. We met against that and we
produced a pamphlet, which Gani
felt was the best in that
circumstance.
“I was sent to submit a copy of the
pamphlet at the UN Secretary-
General’s Office in New York and
other UN offices in other countries,
which I did. The pamphlet was to
explain that Obasanjo was not a fit
and proper candidate for the post of
the UN secretary-general.
“And what was the issue? The issue
was that he had a detention camp on
his farm, where he was detaining
people illegally. And of course, that
was then. So, President Obasanjo
stood up and sued us for libel.” SOURCE- Punchng.com

Hello. I have been dating my girl for about five years now. I proposed to her and she agreed to marry me. However after fixing the date from the traditional Wedding, her parents are asking for five million naira as Bride Price. I told my girlfriend to appeal to them to at least reduce it to two million but her parents refuse. They say its an extended family decision like her Uncles and other relatives. I don't understand. I love my girl and she loves me. She's from Orlu, Imo State. I need your advice. Thanks
FamilyMy Sister In Law Just Told Me She Is Carrying My Baby by Anazp(op): 10:26am On Nov 23, 2012
I came to stay in my brother's house after service. During this period, my brother who works in an oil company was posted overseas. I was left alone with his wife in the house. They had been childless for a while now. I simply kept to myself, however my brothers wife was always trying to draw closer. I refused. One thing led to another and we started a relationship. I tried to stop but she insisted we continue since my brother wasnt around. I did not like this at all. Recently she came to me to tell me she was pregnant. She couldnt tell my brother since he would suspect- he had been away for months. Shes insisting she would keep the baby which i'm firmly against. What do i do now?
