Aside this, be ready to do some post graduate studies. It is good to be a biochemist in the developed world.

Two Nigerian men were arrested on Friday, September 30th by a joint team of Delhi and Goa Police for cheating several people after befriending them on social networking sites.

The suspects identified as Chukwuma Collins, 35, and Nicodemus Obinn, 27, used to befriend people on Facebook and then ask for money to send "necessary items" to their family members in UK.

Police said that the two used to cook up stories about the poor conditions of their family members living in western countries and ask the victims to help them with money. After receiving the money they broke all contact with the victims. Both have been involved in several cases of fraud and an FIR was registered against them in Goa cyber crime cell.

Bridget Fernandes Rai, a victim made a complaint to Goa Police, claiming to have been cheated of around Rs 8 lakh by the duo. She said that she had befriended Collins on Facebook and after a few days of chatting he started calling her.

Rai told the police that Collins started referring to her as his sister and asked for Rs 8 lakh to transfer some money and jewellery through a courier to his relatives. He claimed that the courier was stuck in legal processes at the customs department in Goa and he needed to get it delivered quickly as his wife had expired.

Rai agreed to transfer the money to his account. As soon as the money was transferred, Collins disappeared. After some time, Bridget received a call from the custom department, which raised questions regarding the parcel she had sent, and realised that she was duped.

"A team from Goa Police approached us in Delhi after a technical surveillance pointed to role of some people operating from here. A joint team was formed to track the accused. The duo was arrested from Mahavir Enclave in south Delhi," said Ravindra Yadav, joint commissioner, crime.

Collins and Obinn confessed to their crime and disclosed that they had cheated several others in a similar way. Three laptops, seven data cards, 36 SIM cards and 26 mobile phones, three USB pen drives, were recovered from the duo.

During interrogation, the duo claimed that they had arrived in India five years ago for business and then started cheating people using different techniques. Both accused were produced in a Dwarka court and taken on a transit remand by Goa Police.

Mark Essien, the CEO of Hotels.ng, Nigeria’s biggest hotel booking site had some advice for Nigerian startup founders. In a recent post on his blog titled “My advice to Nigerian startup founders” he outlined 17 advices for entrepreneurs on the road to building a successful business.

Here they are below:

Focus on making users use your product before you over-invest time in building the product. If people don’t want to use a simple version of the product, they won’t want to use a complex version. Building the first version of the product should take at Most 3 months.

1. Give your technical co-founders equal stake, or have enough money to pay for the good guys. Or be convincing enough to convince someone good. If you hire a 50k programmer and give him 3% equity and you are not technical, you are doomed.

2. Understand the Unit Economics of your startup. If you don’t know what Unit Economics is, spend the next 7 days reading up on it.

3. Read the book called “traction” by Gabriel Weinberg.

4. If your product does not have a clear and single primary method with which you will gain your first customers, then don’t build it.

5. Social Media is not a distribution strategy.

6. Ads is not a monetization strategy.

7. There are some very common startup ideas that nobody has made work yet (e.g small e-commerce store, artisan recommendation). Do not go into them unless you clearly understand why the others failed.

8. To go from idea to product to first revenue or first users. This is YOUR job. Don’t try to raise money to achieve the above. Save money to get to those stages. This is your traction benchmark: 100 daily users OR 100k in monthly EARNINGS. Not SALES VOLUME.

9. Don’t confuse SALES with REVENUE. If you sell goods worth N1million, it makes a huge difference if your margin is 30% or 1%.

10. You will raise money through recommendations and through introductions, not through cold emails. If you want to send a cold email, send your numbers and traction.

11. If you do not have 100 active users 6 months after you started working on your idea, move on or change something.

12. Consumer internet is very hard in Nigeria. B2B is much easier. If you are going into B2B, understand “SALES”. Read up on various sales Books.

13. If you consider yourself D-Class in the tech circles, get the C-Class excited about you. Then work your way up to the B-Class and ask for the intro’s to the A-Class, who are the gate-keepers of investors.

14. If you are going to ask someone to mentor you, come with something. If you go visit a chief to ask a favour, you take a gift, right? If you request someone to give their time, then also offer your time in return.

15. A word is enough for the wise. Ask for just 2 sentences feedback from people you respect about your product. Fix those 2, ask another 2,etc.

16. Don’t be stubborn. Doubt your own idea. Don’t defend it, join others to criticize it, and try to think if the criticism is unfixable or if it can be fixed. If it can be, fix it. If not, work around it. If nothing can be done, move on.

17. Hire people you are scared to hire because of how good they seem.

A graduate of civil engineering or any of the engineering do not need to write sporting or like meeting people in his/her CV as and interest &hobbies it do not tally..

It is Better if he/she writes:networking, training, thinking, researching etc. As their hobbies/interest.

Ops I disagree with you that an engineering graduate should not write sporting or meeting people as hobby. Hobby is just an interest. You hobby helps know your personality. An engineering graduate might like football or sports. Have you heard of oil and gas games? It is like Olympic Games for workers of Nigerian companies in the oil and gas sector. Sport also means you are living a sort of healthy life. Some sport requires serious thinking and strategizing -Chess. Some increase your knowledge - Scrabble. Meeting people is more or less like networking and having a global mindset. It means you can work with people of veried background and orientation. And by the way.....not all engineers work on sites. Some work as Engineering sales personnel and their work requires meeting a lot of people

Hobbies in some way shows your personality. It help the organization in teamwork and networking

I totally agree with you. Implementation is always the issue in Nigeria occasionally affected by Corruption, tribalism, nepotism. In other climes, they have 5 -10 year development plans in which they highlight area of priorities based on developmental needs, population, technological advance etc

Truly a master piece!!!

Nigeria flagship airport, Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, has been is a state of despair for ages now. Presently effort is going on to rehabilitate this Nigerian gateway with the ongoing construction of a new terminal. Power outage, poor ventilation and sanitary services has been a big issue. Congestion is all worth mentioning.

I stumbled on the design of the airport and I must commend that if this project come to fruition it will give Nigeria and Nigerians hassle free travel in and out of Nigeria and it may help develop Nigeria as an aviation hub in the sub region.
Let us all call on our leaders to expedite action on this . This is a viable way to diversify our economy.

This is not about hatred for Fayose. This is about objectivity and "prioritization". Can you tell us why a dualized road which experiences less that 1000 vehicular flow per hour and traffic of less than 5-minutes (caused by traffic light) be replaced with a flyover?

Especially when the state is owing 6 month salary to his workers, when health care services is moribund, when universities and other vital agencies has not receive their subventions.....

It is just like replacing the road in front of MKO Garden/Japaul House with a flyover even though traffic on this Ekiti road is less than 10% of what we experience.

Fayose is just wasting Ekiti money on useless project to appease his political godfathers and enrich himself.

I must also commend Fayose in the area of road construction. Kudos to him but on this flyover thing, he lost it totally. Wrong timing!!!!
