de-humph:I've not heard this in a while. Congrats |
Noswaa: My CEO is my cousin and he did his PhD as well in Canada,he tried as much as possible to prove that to them but because of the way this people regards we Nigerians, they hardly believe u,and my appointed time to be in Canada may have not yet to come,so my husband is going to sponsor me next time. For those that are telling me take heart, yes it is painful for any failure but i didn't see this one as a failure because they stated what i should provide to them to grant me my entry so i don't think that i need more of sympathy than to do what they told me and get my visa.I love the last 7 lines |
linclon: @Spencer, I am based in Canada now and need to get it from Nigeria for the Canadian immigration.@lincoln: I had this same issue when I lived in the uk and needed that police clearance for some security stuff over there and I couldn't afford to come home at the time. There is a way out, here is what you should do. First u need to have someone get the police clearance form for you from alagbon and scan it to u, both pages. Its a black and white form so u can print it out easily. Now the form has spaces for all of your fingerprints I.e, your 10 fingers and 2 other portions for all of your fingers together both hands. Take the form to any police station wherever you reside in canada and tell them to assist you in taking your fingerprints on that form, tell them its purpose and all that. They have the correct ink for the prints and all that. They will help you in taking down your finger prints and filling the appropriate spaces as they are used to such forms and all that type of protocol. Fill in the other portions of the form, sign and attach a copy of the data page of your international passport, and I think 1 or 2 passport photos. Now post these documents to your contact in naija who will take it to alagbon with 4000 naira. Your police clearance certificate will be ready the following day. Have the person get it and post it to you. #shikena. At least thats what i did. |
Lagishan: @acientoneMy refusal was based on ties to home country and not academic issues. |
Obamacare: If I were to be the VO, I will most likely deny you. Reason is UK have some of the best schools and your financial backing is strong enough to make you continue schooling in the UK. Why do an MSC in the UK and now want to go study MSc in Canada? Your financial background doesn't support your salary of 85k is a sharp contradiction of your family worth of over N500million naira. I mean you think about it. And to think that you didnt even submit your personal statement makes it look like you are being pushed around by your Mum and not taking decisions on your own. I guess your chances are high and all you need do is do the right thing. Most millionaire kids would rather go to LBS to get an MBA after-all holidaying in these countries isn't a big deal. I guess your case is the second on this thread in less than a week. Over blotted financial sources without commensurate personal statement to back it upMr obama, yes I quite agree with u that if you were d vo u would most likely deny me, reason being that you probably wouldn't go through my application at all. Whoever said I was going in for an msc again, I thought I said mba...they are two different qualifications. If the vo had issues about my qualifications and why I intend studying I would have been refused for not being a bonafide student ......or don't u think so. Secondly , of course I have other accounts but I didddnt think I needed to submit more than one since I'm not even sponsoring myself, the most reasonable one to submit would be the salary account since I claim to be working....I know of people who did not even submit personal bank account at all because they were being sponsored or they were even unemployed I know someone else with salary of 64k that got the visa so what r u saying? I know i have a pretty good profile and I would get d visa eventually. I need to show stronger ties to my country, that I would do in my next application . I studied and worked briefly in d uk and I left voluntarily with over a years residence permit on my passport . I did not like d place and I left and I came back and got a job. I thought that should show d vo that im not desperate to live abroad. You cannot predict these people , just package your application well. @sirp; thanks for your input that one makes sense. |
Guys, My status changed on monday to Your application reference number ........... is now ready for collection. Please visit the centre where you submitted your application with your Receipt and Identification Proof between 08:00am and 03:30 pm (Local Time) all working days to collect the same which has been processed on 23/07/2012 . I already knew what that meant since I hadn't done medicals, got to vfs yesterday and got d refusal with 2 reasons... 1. You have not satisfied me that u have adequate funds available to u to pay for yur tuition and living expenses while in Canada and return to your country of residence. 2. You have not satisfied me that u will leave Canada by d end of d period authorised for yur stay. Funny cus my tuition is 30,000$ and I've paid $10,000 as instructed by d school and even submitted d payment advice direct from my mums account to d school with her personal statement with 10million in it. Plus I have done a masters course in d uk in 07-08 and was sponsored by my mum and she declared that she indeed sponsored me and is gladly sponsoring me again. I am to go in for an MBA at vancouver island uni bc.Anyway here are d docs I submitted. My first degree certificate from unilorin. Sociology. Transcripts for that. My msc certificate from the uk.operations & business mgt Transcripts for that. Membership certificate of chartered mgt institute uk Prince 2 project mgt professional certificate Nigerian institute of mgt. Membership certificate. Toefl result: I scored 101 out of a possible 120. Sponsors docs. My mums PERSONAL statement of account with 10million. company reg docs C of O of my fathers property at VI with valuation worth 500 million. Tenancy agreement of d property with rent to d tune of 12million pa. My fathers death certificate. Study plan. My own employment letter Payslips for 6 months Account statement for 6 months. Letter of intro from my office. Not d best of jobs but I have a job, and I earn 84k monthly as a csr with glo. Although as a subcontrated staff from dier sister company gml.I only submitted my company docs to show i have a job and I'm getting paid monthly. I receive regular allowances from d proceeds of the rent as well.but there was no money in my acct at d time I submitted. I used my mums personal act and not company act because that's where the payment of rent for popsis property goes into and did not see any need for including company statement again since that's not where d funds for my studies is to be taken from, I only included her company docs to show she has her job and does not rely solely on d proceeds of the rent. Anyway d vo did not think property worth 500m in my late fathers name bringing in 12million yearly is not enough reason for me to come back home , that's interesting.........they must be handing out gold on d streets of canada. Lol. Plus my mum has just 1 other dependant my younger sister who is in uni in ghana and my other siblings are my two elder brothers who are all married and settled in naija.I stated all dis in Mumsi sponsor letter and on d application forms. Luckily d school has January start as well so ill be reapplying in sept.because it seems applying very early can also be a problem as I have learnt. I applied march 23 at vfs it got to cdhc march 26. My decision was made july 23. Exactly 4 months. I learnt about this forum only after I had applied, I would have definately done some things differently if I had known about this. |
moty4all: Same with me 2, I miss my passport.my mum. you? @galala: who is your sponsor? |
3 months and 2 weeks gone. I miss my passport. |
any other march or earlier applicant still awaiting medical call up? |
canadianboy: Hello House,I am interested in an answer to this question, particularly the bit about contacting all previous employers. @ codebrain , u mean u applied since 2nd feb and for sept admission and youve still not heard from them? Guys i think applying very early in advance is also becoming an issue. Lets take note. I also applied march 26th, no word till date. |
To those that have been waiting for medical call ups for like 3 - 4 months , I think you may need to visit the embassy. i applied since the 23rd of march and have got no response so i visited cdhc yesterday and to my surprise i met a number of people who had the same issue, i met this one guy who had applied for a study permit since febuary and a number of people who were waiting for their visitors visa, some had also applied since feb, some march , some april, all had sent emails but no response, and the irony is that many applications that came in after they had applied have already been processed so why the delay. I met this one guy and another lady who applied for a visitors visa to go for their kids graduation, in fact the ceremonies had already passed with no response from the embassy. They complained bitterly because many of them have other visas on their passport and need to travel urgently. In fact the majority of them had come to withdraw their passports saying they did not need the visas anymore. We were all asked to fill a form with our details stating our requests, either to withdraw or to enquire on status of your application. However we were just 2 with the study permit enquiry, the other guy was called in and refused instantly, all the other guys that had applied for visiting were either issued the visa instantly or given back their passports with their documents withheld and asked to send back their passports when they are through with it for the visa. Bottomline the delays are not limited to study permit applications alone, it appears that these applications had not been touched at all and just pushed to one corner for whatever reason, not until they visited the embassy to withdraw did they start looking through them. some of them were processed that same day and issued their visas ( I mean visitors as they do not need to do medicals) some had come for like 2 - 3 days before it was issued. So these delays are not just limited to study permits, but i think you should visit the embassy to fill the form to at least expedite the process because your application may just be lying there untouched, and please do not wait till its so close to your start date, the guy that was refused the study permit was supposed to resume june 20th. I pray God grants us all our hearts desire. CDHC clearly have issues but we will overcome in Jesus name. |
Hi all, this is my first post on dis thread..but ive been observing silently all the while, congrats to all those who have got their trvs and medical call particularly for sept. If you have qualifications or/and experience from abroad, and you currently live in nigeria, you can still apply, they would invite you. |
Shanice, Thanks for starting this, i was about doing the same, im actually sort of in the same dilemma. I saw the advert on the university of edinburgh career website and i applied, i have been invited to the summit on the 15th and 16th as well. Trouble is i already got a return ticket to naija on the 27th to return mid jan, but with this i need to make other arrangements because the ticket i bought is non refundable and cannot be amended. So if im really going to attend i have to buy another ticket, and you know how expensive tickets are in the Christmas season. Thats why im trying to find out how likely it is for one to get a job through the event, is it just one of those career fairs where the companies would just flaunt themselves and tell you to go and apply through their website and in the end nothing would come out of it or are there serious companies going to be present who would very likely book you for an interview. Im quite happy to take a risk but not an entirely blind one. Please someone help as time is running out. |

Hello my people, its me ancient 1, the poster of this topic here again. Let me share some things as i see them now, Well well well, i went back to Nigeria to try and get a job right, and i must say i quit my 2 not-okay jobs here from which i was earning a little over a thousand pounds monthly. I have to tell u i was in nigeria for 2 full months and did not get a job, in fact i met a guy who had come from uk after his masters like 6 months before myself and had still not found a job, i attended a couple of interviews tho, all the companies offering to pay peanuts. You would never imagine. There was 1 in particular, the number 1 of the big 5 auditing firms in naija which i was particularly interested in (Im sure you already know the company im talking about and are like yeah i know that company, their pay is massive, Yeah right!) , even after agreeing to collect their little over 100k salary (can u freaking imagine) they later said ehn, my qualifications do not match up their expectations, lol, i was like err, this is an entry level graduate trainee programme, i have not only a first degree but also a masters from abroad and my qualifications do not match? (Jokers) and i must point out that the ppl i met whom i was interviewed with had only bscs, so what do u have to say to that? My people, make no mistake there are jobs in nigeria, even if there are no jobs the jobs would be created if your legs are long enough, its a sad reality but the fact is that connections rule in the naija job market and if you dont have the connections, the only way u might be able to substitute for that is if yu have very very relevant qualifications along with years of experience to back it up, but as a fresh graduate without experience and connections, my sincere advice to u is that yu should not go back just yet, hang around a little, work, save and write professional exams, try try try to get a job and gain some experience before going back. Needless to say im back in the UK, enrolled for a professional course, and i should be writing another after this 1. Also working on an unpaid placement in the US to gain some experience, ive actualy been taken and i should start before the end of d year. We must never give up, you just have to keep on pushing, thats it. |
actually i started dating girls since i was about 16, im 26 now.Its funny but till date ive never dated a lady my age, all have been older. its nothing delibrerate, it just happens, not like 4,5,6 years older but say 1-2-3 years older. my present girl is about 2 years older and we plan to get married next year. Also my brother dated a girl 6 years older than him for 3 years before he got married to her two years ago and they are doing fine with their baby now. So what do u say to that, I feel its just the stupid naija girl thing, that makes them feel when they are young that they cant date guys their age because of maturity, maturity my foot. When they start growing old and are desperate to get married thats when they get flexible and start saying age is but a number. They dont mind age then. Ive been in europe for how many years now and age is really nothing, you like me i like you, whats left, lets get it going. , im dating a naija girl tho and shes super ( shes older than me but she treats me like her king). |
too bad for you, your girlfriend is being bunked by your mate, trust me when you let her go she wouldnt be bothered 1 bit, until he dumps her then shel come running back to you, pls dont give her face then, cheers youre not alone tho, |
more news of job cuts/ job losses in the uk economy, the recession is hitting badly, egba wa o!!!!! |

go back to nigeria and get a job |
e be like say na call centre job boys dey take hold body for here, i do the same. But well said sukkie, its madness to sit on that kind of job after paying so much for a masters, when you can get somthing better in naija, ive got mates who have been on the call centre job up to 2 years after graduating. Lets just keep trying and stick to our timeframe. Ive gone for some interviews with some companies now that that believe me i diddnt quite beleive they would call me. Lets hope for the best, but still credit crunch or no credit crunch, men dey get job ooo. @ the end of the day its not a bad idea to get some experience here, but then no time, |

Nice feedback from left right and centre every1, im sure you agree with me that posting this topic has brought out so many issues and would definately guide anyone faced with this dilemma in making a decision. Well as for me, im still here alright, luckily for me ive got a job i do (doing customer service, definately not what i want) which pays quite an ok amount of money every month, i plan to do some professional courses (prince 2 and six sigma) to be specific while i still scout for proper jobs. Please guys comment on this, does this make sense? i mean the professional courses, im of the inpression that they would add to one seling himself for a job over here, or should 1 wait to get some experience before doing these courses. I think its worth doing now anyway, pls respond guys cheers. |
"What am I driving at is, if only you guys have 3 or more months international experience on your CV, you have a better chance of getting a good job in Naija" 3 months experience?? does that really make a difference and this thing about lying, are yu guys sure these guys dont verify and it wont backfire in some way. What about just exaggerating your job role and salary at somewhere you actually worked. ? |
I decided to start this topic because i know from experience that this is a very pressing issue in the minds of thousands of Nigerians like myself who have managed to get a foreign degree. I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about, particularly if you travelled abroad to study (many times after a bsc in naija). OK so you've finished your programme you've done your graduation, you've got your PALI, do you jump on the next plane to MMA or do u stay behind? Now there are a couple of perspectives to this. Some would tell you to stay behind and gain some experience, 6 months, 1 year or 2 years and then come back and you would be a lot more competitive because of your foreign experience . Now the problem here is in getting that experience. I'm sure by now with the number of Nigerians in the UK and US, it is needless to describe how difficult it is to get that Graduate job, (I have to say it is worse in the UK), cause you've got so much to contend with, first of all your immigration status, OK fine, you've finished your programme and you've got the post study work rubbish visa for another 2 years, most of these employers are not willing to take on someone who has got a limited leave to remain in the UK. Meanwhile you should know that there are thousands of experienced British citizens who want that same job. Now the implication of this is that you would continue looking for that job (unsuccessfully), and continue to do your part time job (man must survive na) whether as a cleaner, MC Donald's sales assistant, or better still carer, or security guard (with your £13,000 worth msc), lol, It is important to say that getting a job is indeed possible but just extremely difficult because of the competition and it may not come as soon as you planned. The problem here is that time is going and your mates in naija who haven't even got a masters are rising becoming assistant managers, gaining experience, moving on with their career. Now others would tell you to come back immediately, to many this seems to be the wisest thing to do, but now for those that came for their masters immediately after NYSC or graduating in naija without working at all, you need to know that you would have to start at an entry level position just like any other naija graduate (well lets be fair and say you would get some preferential treatment with your foreign pali, but then is it really worth it?). And then you know naija with its who know who system, you shouldn't be surprised if you find yourself sitting at home for months (in your parents house most of the time) reading tuesday and thursday guardian, looking for job, with your foreign pali!!!!! after so much has been spent on you!!!! And finally others would say, "stay abroad and process a job in naija, don't come until you've got an offer and a job is waiting for you" very sound advice i must say, but then does it work out that easily, i mean you are sitting your ass abroad while there are thousands of people on ground in naija ready to take up the offer and start immediately, shouldn't be on ground struggling things out with the others , lol. So wetin man go do? ![]() So then my friends, don't get it twisted i aint no pessimist but then we need to face reality, there are so many people caught up in this dilemma and though they appear confident and all trust me, they really don't know what to do and could use your insight on this, so please have your say, cheers mates!! |
