Mr. Khaleel Umar Al-Makura, the son of Nasarawa state governor Umar Al-Makura, has been arrested over the killing of a student, Ovye Amos of Government Secondary School, Lafia. The killing of Amos in a road accident on Monday night had sparked a protest in the school. The students took to the streets on Tuesday carrying placards with various inscriptions demanding justice for the killing of Amos, a Junior Secondary School two student. The police, officers of the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps, teachers and government officials intervened to calm the students. The governor’s son was reported to have hit the deceased with a car. Addressing the students at the school parade ground, the Nasarawa state Commissioner for Education, Aliyu Tijjani, said government had taken measures to ensuring that the Governor’s son that perpetrated this killing was brought to book. “He has already been arrested.” “I want to express my profound dismay and sadness over what happened here yesterday. It is unfortunate, very very unfortunate.’’ The school Head Boy, Goodluck Agwu, had explained that Amos was hit by the car driven by Khaleed when he went out to buy batteries for his flashlight at 8:00pm. The students who were not satisfied with the explanation of the commissioner continued their protest, but the police were deployed to calm them. The police explained that they were investigating the case. The area commander of Lafia area office, Mr. Maikudi Shehu, assured the students that they would be briefed on the development. “It is a painful thing, we sympathise and empathise with you and we assure you that investigation is ongoing and that particular culprit as we are speaking now is under detention in our custody” “We will keep you informed of developments as they unfold,” he said. http://onomeasike..com.ng/2017/03/governor-al-makuras-son-arrested-over.html |
The body of the medical doctor, Allwell Orji, who jumped off the 3rd mainland bridge on Sunday evening, has been recovered. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, confirmed the recovery of the body on Tuesday. He said the body was recovered by the Marine Police at the Onikan end of the lagoon. The body was found three days after the incident occurred. Until his death, Dr. Orji worked at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Surulere area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria. He was said to be on his way to Victoria Island for a meeting with the Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria when the incident happened. Temporary reports from Police authorities revealed that the deceased had asked his driver to stop the vehicle before jumping across the bridge and into the water. LASEMA said there was a distress call of a man who parked his grey coloured Nissan SUV at about 4:50 pm around Adekunle and jumped into the Lagos lagoon. The agency said the vehicle and the driver had been taken to Adeniji Adele Police Station for further investigation. Spokesman of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr. Kehinde Adebayo, had said the agency was alerted by concerned Nigerians. Just three days after Dr. Orji case, a similar incident has been recorded as a middle-aged woman reportedly jumped into the lagoon in the Maza-Maza area of the state. The woman was, however, rescued following the timely intervention of local fishermen and divers in the area. According to witnesses, the woman had walked casually to the Maza-Maza bridge in the Mile Two area and to the shock of people around, she took a dive into the lagoon but the fishermen dived in after her and rescued her. The woman, dressed in a blouse and trousers was earlier seen walking aimlessly and when she got to the middle of the bridge, she climbed the rail and jumped. http://onomeasike..com.ng/2017/03/how-body-of-doctor-orji-who-jumped-into.html |

On Sunday 19 March, a doctor named Allwell Orji was reported to have jumped off the Third Mainland bridge into the Lagoon with search till ongoing to bring him out dead or alive. Yesterday, a picture of a young male nurse who co-incidentally bears same name as the doctor circulated online as the ‘jumping’ doctor. It is now clear that it was a case of mistaken identity. I had dinner with my lawyer friend recently and our discussion took us to how the rate of divorce is drastically increasing in Nigeria. The most shocking part of that discussion was when she told me the reason for many of these divorces. She said in 3months, she had close to 9 divorce cases and 7 of them were because THEIR PARTNERS COULD NOT SATISFY THEM SEXUALLY and 1 case was because THEY BOTH WERE NOT COMPARTIBLE ENOUGH TO BEAR CHILDREN. She went on to add that, ‘do you know that many Nigerian women actually forgive their men for cheating on them and continue in the marriage, but almost No woman can survive sexual frustration for a long time?’. One of her clients who came to her for help and narrowly escaped divorce is a Lagos housewife by the name Chioma and here is her story in her own words. “We have been married for 7 years and I was nursing a pain which eventually turned my marriage sour. I and my husband had it going good for at the beginning. After a while, I just became more and more sad every time we had sex, but it got worse after we welcomed our first child. Well, as a well brought up and the very moral woman, I tried to talk myself out of the feeling of frustration I had, cause I thought I had to bear it as a way of showing I loved my husband.” Well, cut the long story short…. Her husband, Dave, lost his job along the line, go into the tiring race of trying to get a new job. Since, that did not work out, he left it and started trying to start a business, and since Chioma was a full time housewife, they became dead broke and more frustrated. According to her, “To add up to all these mishap, Our sex life headed for the rocks. I had to look for ways to avoid sex as I did not want those hopeless feelings creeping up on me since his performance was below par.He always cited excuses for his below performance, from tiredness, stress and lots more. I wept bitterly because I was sex starved. Whenever Dave entered me, he spilled even before three minutes. We talked about it and one of the divorce restraint I had was the fact that I saw him doing his best to help the situation to no avail.” She continued saying “ shortly after I came to you to pour out my heart concerning the situation, I visited my childhood friend, Ireti at her home. She got married some years before I did and since I could confide in her, I poured out my heart to her in tears. She revealed a secret to me which left me speechless. I appreciated her kind gesture and quickly rushed home”. You can read the Testimonials Of Other Men here “Days later, one evening I decided to share the secret with Dave with detailed explanation. He applied the secret that evening and that same night, we made love and his performance improved a little because it sure was better than it had been in the past years.” “The wow thing was that by the fourth day, our sex life had greatly improved to the point of having several sex rounds.I was and am still short of words, there are times when I have to gaze at him for long to be sure I was in my husband’s arms. It feels now like he has a magic touch to his performance. The greatest part is the fact that his confidence has returned and he is now in control. Thanks to this amazing secret” “Thank God I did not give up on us when I was tempted to. Our sex life has been re-positioned and it’s a get relief as our marriage has indeed entered a new phase. If you want to have Dave’s Secret of Long Lasting Performances that God used to save my marriage, you can get it here. As this was exactly where I got it from”. I was so moved by Chioma’s story that I decided to write about it to help the multitudes of marriages today in the same situation of sexual dissatisfaction or childlessness. It just might be the miracle you are praying for. Please share this with as many people as you know. Let’s keep divorce at its barest minimum in Nigeria. Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday briefed President Muhammadu Buhari on some of his activities as acting president while the president was away in London. Osinbajo who made this known after a closed door meeting with the president in Abuja, said “I’m back to my regular position as Vice-President .’ He said that the president, who was updated on national and international issues as they concerned the country, gave specific directives on the next steps to be taken. “We just had a very long meeting. As you can see we were basically trying to bring the President up to speed on some of the things we have done while he was away. “He has given a few directives on what we should be doing on so many areas, the Northeast, budget, the economy, a wide range of issues.’’ On the readiness of the president to resume work, the vice-president said he had already handed over the governance of the nation to the president. “He’s held a meeting with me for well over an hour now where we discussed a wide range of issues. “So, his readiness for work isn’t in doubt at all. As a matter of fact I think he is over ready. “Oh yes! I’m back to my regular position as vice president.’’ On whether the president was impressed with his performance as acting president, Osinbajo said President Buhari “was reasonable satisfied’’. Osinbajo dismissed the assertion that there might be a lot of delegation of duties to him, due to the health of the president. According to him, nothing will be done without the president’s clearance. He said: “I think the president, as you know, has always given me several responsibilities. “I think what we must recognise is that the way this administration work is that it has always been team work. “Very little is done without the president’s clearance. “Generally speaking, even with responsibilities that are my constitutional responsibilities, we have full discussions on them, we have full agreements on all of those issues.’’ Source: http://okhunlun..com.ng/2017/03/osinbajo-briefs-president-buhari-says.html

No doubt, evicted fake Big Brother Naija housemate, Ese Eriata, has big ideas about love, romance, and sexual satisfaction. Little wonder Big Brother specially hand-picked her alongside fake housemate, Jon, to storm the Big Brother house with the major task of putting the real housemates on their toes to bring their A-game to play in the reality TV show currently taking place in South Africa. In a recent chat with Potpourri, the model turned singer, who recently released her debut single, Super Love, expressed her opinion about the use of intimacy gadgets to derive sexual satisfaction. To her, there is nothing wrong if a woman satisfies her libido with a intimacy gadget, but she should make sure her man is in the know. “To me, I don’t think it’s a bad idea having a intimacy gadget because it would reduce the level of cheating in relationships, but whenever you use intimacy gadgets, you should always tell your man about it. I don’t think there is anything wrong for a lady having a intimacy gadgets”, the sensual singer, who recently returned to Nigeria after fulfilling her mission in the Big Brother house, believes that intimacy gadgets could help in the drastic reduction of crisis in relationships. A large scale cassava farmer in Ilorin, Mr Tajudeen Onilu, has attributed the sky-rocketing price of gari in several parts of the country to the decline in cassava production. Onilu, who is also the Secretary of Cassava Growers Association in Kwara, told journalists on Saturday in Ilorin that cassava farming activities had declined drastically. According to him, this development has resulted in scarcity of cassava, thus triggering a hike in the price of gari and other food and non-food items prepared from cassava. Onilu observed that that several young Nigerians who were supposed to remain in their localities to engage in cassava farming, had migrated to urban centres and taken to commercial motorcycle and other businesses. The cassava farmer called on the Federal Government to introduce accessible and affordable loans to genuine cassava farmers in the country, to enable them embark on mass production. A plastic container of gari, which was formerly sold for between N180 and N200, now sells for N400, while the price of a small container of the product, has shot up to N40, from its former N20. Property means a thing which is capable of ownership. It also refers to a right of ownership, as “the property in the goods”. Fixtures are chattels, which are so affixed to the land or to a building on land as to become part of the land. Such chattels lose their character as chattels and pass with the ownership of the land. The general rule is that the chattel is not deemed to be a fixture unless it is actually fastened to or connected with the land or building e.g. a caravan, or a heavy water tank, however heavy, upon the land does not prima facie make such an article a fixture. If any object or superstructure can be removed without losing its identity it is not regarded as a fixture. An example is a printing machine weighing several tons, standing on the floor and secured by its own weight. The case will be the same if the posts that support the roof of a corrugated iron building are not embedded in the concrete floor, but are held in position by iron strips fixed into the floor. The concrete foundation which is a fixture, is regarded as a separate unit from the superstructure. But a chattel that is strictly attached to land could be a fixture so as tp form part of the land. Thus a varadah connected with a house is fixture, as also are doors, windows, chimney pieces etc because these are annexed for the more convenient use of the land or building. Tenant Fixture Tenant has the right to attach fixtures to his leased property for his convenience or for the purpose of carrying out his trade but such fixture must be removed before the expiration of his tenancy otherwise they become a gift to the landlord. But any fixture which partakes of the nature of a permanent improvement and which cannot be removed without substantial damage to the house does not come within the exception of an ornamental fixture. For instance a tenant rented an apartment and decides to tile the floor and also beautify the ceiling with (POP) Plaster of Paris during his tenancy. On expiration of his tenancy the tenant has no right to destroy the improvement he has made to the apartment because it will cause damage to the property neither does he has the right to ask the landlord to pay for the improvement. At common law the principle; Quicquid Plantatur Solo Solo Cedit (i.e. whatever is affixed to the soil belongs to the soil.) Buildings form part of the land. Therefore before affixing anything to a property, you should know the pros and cons. Source: http://okhunlun..com.ng/2017/03/fixtures-on-leased-property.html

Pope Francis said in an interview published on Thursday that the church may consider ordaining married men who could potentially then work in remote areas faced with a shortage of priests. . . “We must think about whether viri probati are a possibility,” Francis said referring to older, married men who are already involved in church business.“Then we have to decide what tasks they can take on, for example in remote communities,” he added in the interview with German weekly Die Zeit. Many in the church believe, given the lack of priests in many places, that a new path to ordination should be opened. They think that in addition to priests who take a vow of celibacy, older, married men with a long commitment to the church could also be considered. Pope Francis said in May 2014 that “there are married priests in the Church” citing married Anglican ministers who joined the Catholic Church, Coptic Catholics and the priests of some Eastern churches. The church, and notably the current pope’s predecessor Benedict XVI, had previously said that celibacy was not a matter of inflexible church dogma unlike, for example, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. However, Francis said allowing priests in training to choose whether or not to be celibate was “not the solution”.

Nigerians are talking about sexual consent online following an incident on TV's "Big Brother" A housemate was expelled after appearing to molest another contestant while she slept (CNN) The Nigerian version of "Big Brother," the reality TV show known for featuring the worst excesses of human behavior, has sparked a conversation about sexual consent in this African country. Nigerians have taken to social media to discuss the issue after a contestant, Ekemini Ekerette, (also known as Kemen) was booted off the show recently for appearing to molest another housemate as she slept. The latest incident has led to soul-searching and recriminations in a country where studies show that rapes go largely unreported and victim blaming is common Influential political blogger Japheth Omojuwa recorded a video in which he said many people in Nigeria are "genuinely ignorant" about sexual consent. He said this is an opportunity for "Big Brother Naija," as the show is called here, to use their platform to address "one of the biggest social issues in Nigeria -- rape." The Lagos Mirabel Center, which provides support for victims of rape, says they have handled more than 2,252 rape cases since July 2014. "The challenge is that some victims face a lot of stigmatization and they are not free to come out. Also, they don't want to press charges because of pressures from their families, religious institutions and landlords," center manager Juliet Olumuyiwa-Rufai said during a press conference Monday. "The factor reinforcing rape is impunity," she added. "If we have enough convictions, it will serve as a deterrent to others. We have not recorded up to 20 convictions since we started. Because of this, intending perpetrators are emboldened. Also, there is no support for the victims." In one notorious case, a video surfaced on YouTube in 2011 showing five men raping a woman at Abia State University in eastern Nigeria. It sparked public outrage, but police did not make any arrests because they said they couldn't identify any suspects on the video and the woman had not resisted the assault. The suspects in this case were never brought to justice. Since Kemen's expulsion from "Big Brother," thousands of Nigerians have debated whether the show's producers made the right decision. Many men and women have pointed blame at Tokunbo Idowu ("T-Boss" , the female contestant. Some said they didn't believe T-Boss was unaware of being touched while asleep. Others thought it highlighted a bigger problem of sexual consent in Nigeria and talked about the casual groping and assaults they have faced in public places. I want to urge Big Brother Naija to use #Kemen 's, incident to educate about serial offenses. Our men must learn that no means no. Don't imagine a consent you are not given. Don't claim she' s leading you on when you are the one that is on. A lady owns her body, she has the right to it, she has the power to give it or not. Don't force yourself on the next woman. Please parents, let's raise better men who will be protectors of women not aggressor. Let's do more to protect women, they make the world better place. @bigbrothernaija2017 @bbbmedia #TOYINABRAHAM #TOYINTITANS #WomenSupportingWomen One of the most popular responses was a video, made by a British police force, that used a tea-drinking metaphor to raise awareness and understanding of what consent is. The second season of "Big Brother Naija" premiered in January and is due to wrap up in April. Source: http://okhunlun..com.ng/2017/03/big-brother-has-nigerians-suddenly.html
