Ibime: There is nothing second choice about Dias. What is likely is that City thought Dias is £65m and thought they could do better financially with Kounde at maybe £40m. When they saw Sevilla asking Dias prices for Kounde, they revert to first choice. Same with Koulibaly, nobody will expect Napoli to quote £90m for a 30 year old, and probably hoping to get him for like £30m. When they saw both players back at Dias price level, they go back to Dias.
Na so market be. If you go to market with a thought of buying ofada rice to save cost and you see Ofada being priced same as Basmati, you kuku buy Basmati.
Kounde was not quoted any £70m in 2020. Sevilla won't ask more than £55m if you really want the player and negotiate in 2020. Meanwhile Koulibaly quote was £72m. Who will pay that for a 30 year old CB. When City saw them being unrealistic, then they might as well buy the real thing.
Whatever the case, everything Man City sign is approved strongly by Pep while at Chelsea, the manager will come and complain that he knows nothing about the signing. I have seen your ensuing argument with Trevor012 as well and he is right. You have forgotten that City chased Koulibaly even before they got Laporte and only went to Laporte after the Koulibaly deal did not work out. Then they went for him again after the 2019/20 when the manager had to use Fernandinho and Eric Garcia as CB pairing for City because Kompany retired, Stones was depressed and Laporte was injured after game 2 or so. There is no way to spin this one chairman, Koulibaly was clearly City's first choice. They proved it in back to back years. |

raumdeuter: Transfer fee of a player makes no sense to me
There are many things that control transfer fee including contract lenght especially. PSG got Messi and Wijnaldum for free. Bayern got Lewandowski for free, Arsenal got Sol Campbell for free, Madrid got Alaba for free, Madrid got Kroos under value etc
Someone might get a whole Salah for free next summer. So if we are going by transfer fee.
A club that gets Salah for free has not spent anything while a club that spend 60M on Werner is expected to do better since 60 >> 0
Dembele and Coutinho went for 130M each, Ferran Torres went for 60M, Mbappe will move to Madrid for 0. So we will say there has not been any addition to Madrid quality since they didnt spend anything while Barcelona spent 60M on Ferran Exactly. And if a team buys a player expensive say 60M and then he ends up retiring at the club or leaving when he is 36 years old for free, the selling club gets no netspend out of him and the netspend merchants will tell you the manager spent 60M on the player, forgetting that he got maybe 8 or 10 years out of the player and sold him when he was completely spent. |

Ibime: If Dias at £65m cost more than the so-called 1st to 3rd choice would have cost, you can assume these clowns are just amusing themselves.
Maybe Ake was the one who was fourth choice, not Diaz, afterall they needed two.
It is only Chelsea that the club will sign a player and the manager will come out in press conference to disavow the signing. In addition, Nathan Ake's 40M tag was due to his buyout clause. Which is also proving my point. |

It is only Chelsea that the club will sign a player and the manager will come out in press conference to disavow the signing. Diaz did not cost more than Koulibaly or Kounde. Napoli asked for 90M for Koulibaly when City only wanted to pay 70M and Sevilla were saying 70M or so for Kounde when City wanted to do 55M or 60M with add ons. Diaz buy out clause was 65M yes, but City were able to trade Otamendi and 50M for Diaz. So no Diaz was cheaper essentially and ended up proving to be far better than both Koulibaly and Kounde. |

airmark: Some of you don't read about things regarding Chelsea but will be here arguing blindly.
Conte would have resigned before his 2nd season like he did at Inter after winnin the league. Even the most foolish soccer fan would not equate Conte's Chelsea's situation to Fraudiola's at City. Rest. Sorry to chime in brother but your article and the parts you highlighted are only saying Conté did not want Matic sold to a direct rival. It is clear that Conté wanted to sell the player but he did not want him sold to United. Chelsea on the other hand preferred United because they were the most willing to pay for Chelsea's valuation of the player. |

raumdeuter: Its part of their excuse churning machinery
Na only Pep dey get all his first choice options when we know City went for Alexis, Jorginho, Fred etc and missed out on them but Citeh fans wont complain
Chelsea fans complained that its Lukaku they want, they got Lukaku now, they are saying its not that version of Lukaku that it was forced on them
Truly truly I say onto you, Shekpites are delusional People who are being objective know City's problem. Once they like a player, the selling club always inflates the bill because everyone assumes City have money to spend. It is always one market for City and another for everyone else. Look at Kounde for example, where Sevilla refused to accept City's 65M or so, yet they were very eager to accept 50M or less from Chelsea. That is why City only seem to be successful when they try to buy a player from a club that have a buyout clause in place. It is the reason I always said I hated getting involved in all these player valuation arguments because I know they are largely disingenuous especially when City is involved. From Walker to Rodri to Grealish, All successful City transfers were about paying the buyout clause. Look at Harry Kane as additional evidence. If RM had come for the player, Levy would have sold him easily for maximum of 100M. But with City he even went as far as saying 200M or nothing. Now they have a disgruntled player who will not be willing to break his bones again for the club. |

Same steady986 whose LA LAKERs team are performing like Delta Queens BBall club in Nigeria's women Bball league The irony is, the guy was the one arguing earlier in the season that the new ball was affecting people's shooting and I disagreed with him vehemently. So I was surprised when he tried to imply that that was an excuse GSW apologists or fans would have tried to use for Steph Curry. If any player in this world needs defending for shooting woes, surely it is not the greatest shooter of all times. Instead of people to focus on their own team's failures, they want to troll SC whose team has won atleast 15 more games (at this point in time) than anyone projected we would win. |

Nolito asked to be sold by the way. Who are you and why are you this factual? Bravo left at the end of his 4-year contract and just like you said, Nolito struggled with the weather in Manchester and wanted to leave. Heck, B. Silva wanted to leave as well. The manager already said he will not keep any player that wants to leave. |

Pep has never fancied coaching Chelsea hence the rejection each and every single time they came for him. I also wondered when someone was going to point this out. I had noticed the argument those Chelsea fans had with each other concerning him but nobody mentioned that Roman had even promised to free Catalonia if Guardiola came to coach Chelsea. |

Considering Ralf's age (coaching wise) and his influence in German football, you don't have to wait till Klopp, Tuchel and other German coaches of their set say it before you know that they view Ralf as godfather.
And yes, I've seen who Klopp specifically see as mentor and its not Ralf. Your proposition is valid. |

Klopp and/or Tuchel will be in the better position to say who his/their mentor is. Yea and they themselves never said so. Others did. Klopp only called Ralf a good manager or something like that. I also feel like that was Klopp's way of helping an old friend get a job. Klopp knew that Ralf's PR team were working over time. |

Well he and his agent knows how naive laportass can be with borrowed money You are right but Laporte is quite prudent. I feel Erling Haaland would have wanted to go to Real Madrid however he is pissed that Real Madrid prefer to go for Mbappé instead. So his team (Raoila) are trying to generate this Barca news just to see if Florentino will panic and act. I know you are a Madridista, but Florentino has that history of always doing such. See Vinicius and Neymar for e.g. |
