I don't have the full story but I am reading all sorts of conflicting views. Not sure where he was born. One report says he was born in the UK, the other says he was born in Nigeria. Then there are reports that the child is gay and he has been beaten in Nigeria, na waO!

Ok, I am reading that the guy was actually born in the UK but the parents said that he was born in Nigeria. I don't know what the story is.

Well it depends on if he still has an official Nigerian passport and if he entered Nigeria with his British passport and a Nigerian visa. Then he will be seen as a British citizen first and foremost regardless of birth.

I am not sure how UK law works in this case. Maybe the boy is now a British citizen and at 17 underage.

His mother was ordered to have her son brought back to Britain but she obstructed efforts and was jailed for eight months yesterday.

Edirin had flown out to Nigeria, where his father John Idogun is a special adviser to the governor of the Delta State, in July.

The teenager, from Newham, east London, was expected back in August to start a college course in Hackney.

He had been given a protection order under forced marriage laws by a judge last year and provided with emergency accommodation before he disappeared.

Mrs Justice Macur said: 'Edirin told his litigation team he had been forced or subjected to procedures which were meant to exorcise him from his disobedience to the will of his parents and to remove him from what they regarded as unsatisfactory friendships.'

In November, after a hearing before another judge, Mrs Erhire signed a letter instructing her sister to facilitate the return of Edirin from his Nigerian boarding school.

Jailing the mother for contempt of court, the judge said: ‘I am not satisfied that she is truly remorseful for the imperilment of Edirin's welfare.

‘I am not satisfied that she has shown any indication of a willingness to co-operate on anything but her own terms.

‘The chronology has shown beyond peradventure that this woman only co-operates in the face of a prison sentence and then begrudgingly.’

She ordered that Mrs Erhire should be committed to Holloway Prison immediately for eight months, but said she would have the opportunity to apply to purge her contempt.

The student, who was due to study business and media after finishing his A-levels, came to Britain with his mother in 2004 and had settled in Newham.

Tiwa Savage did not win anything. She co-wrote a single on Fantasia's 'Back to Me' album. The single she co wrote was not nominated and neither did the album win.

This was taken on the red carpet because I saw her standing in the background on E! TV when Ryan Seacrest was interviewing some celebrities live before the event. After I saw her Ryan interviewed Jennifer Hudson, Nicki Minaj,Justin Beiber and Drake on the red carpet before they went in so there is so way it was at the after party unless Omotola wore the same dress there.

Nothing wrong in getting tickets but if one are going to take pictures on the red carpet of a global event they need to make sure everything is correct as these pictures will go around the world.

The dress was wrong and only served to highlight her gut and huge arms.

She could have invested in a better weave.

Good to see someone pointing out Sade is a band not a musician. I've been arguing that will dumbs forever.

Whitney was Clive's biggest discovery and she made him a ton of money back in the day.


Sade is a band but they only go by that name when they back the singer Sade Adu. This came about in the 1980s when the record Company signed only Sade as a solo artist. Sade then told them that she came with the band, that they were all called 'Sade' and refused to sing without them backing her. The record company still only issued one contract for 'Sade' and till this day the money is only paid to her and she splits it evenly with the band. It must also be noted that Sade is the main songwriter and lyricist for the band.

When the band don't back her they are called 'Sweetback' and they have backed many artists like Maxwell and Amiel Laureux.

Same here. But in America it is expected and they will give you attitude if you don't do so whereas in places like England and Nigeria it is not obligatory.

I think Chika98 is using the US as his point of reference. In that part of the world it can be considered highly offensive if you don't tip.

Its a cultural thing. Tipping is a must in America whilst in the UK you have a choice as to whether you want to or not. Nigerians have their own form of tipping like they will give a bit extra to a bus driver after a long journey ect and maybe to the waiter in a bukka joint but it is not the norm for people who don't have money to spare whereas in America if you don't tip they will get pissed and let you know.
I remember one time I was in Tokyo and my friend left a tip on the table in a bar. When we walked out the waiter ran after us and put the money back in my friend's hand saying 'Japanese style!'. So I guess tipping is not the norm in Japan.

I believe the Malaysian govt in wholly involved in the palm oil industry in their country. It all started when the British introduced the fruit to them under colonial rule but I have no idea why production didn't take off in Africa. I wonder why the British decided to ignore a rich large land like Nigeria to focus their efforts on production in Malaysia?

However that being said , I am not interested in palm oil production. Not for my forte or job at all. It is the governments job to come up with ideas and strategies to improve the economy of Nigeria, not mine. Agreed individuals can help but individuals alone do not have access to large funds/the ability to build huge processing plants or set up trade agreements with other countries to help export the product etc. That is why the people elected the government.

Again, why can't Nigeria get in on the act? The palm fruit is indigenous to their land and they could easily blow Indonesia and Malaysia out of the water in regards to production. Do you think if the British were able to grow a product like palm oil on their land they would ignore it like Nigeria is doing? It appears that in this case you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink!

The British still have plenty of overseas territories all over the world including the Caribbean and South America e.g. Falklands

Question: Before the British introduced palm oil to Malaysia from Nigeria there was absolutely nothing there that could have generated enough income to develop Malaysia to the standard that it is today. Why hasn't Nigeria done the same with their home grown product? Granted, some may say that the British did not impart the same knowledge on to the Nigerians as it did with the Malaysians but what is stopping Nigeria today from taking ownership of their own product?  The Nigeria is about 10 times bigger than Malaysia and can produce 10 times as much palm oil so what is the hold up?

Again, this has nothing to do with writing 'properly' and I certainly didn't use the word 'properly' in my initial post'. Please understand and look at the example above I used about native pidgin English speakers and Rab C Nesbitt.

All I said was that the OP did not come across as someone who has been in the UK all their life and as it turns out I was right because he has now admitted that he lives in China and claims he is basically communicating in 'Chinglish'. This was after basically outing himself in his first post about being in Kenya. As to why a native English speaker would communicate in this so called 'Chinglish' on an English language board is beyond me but it just tells me he is lying. Furthermore it appears that the girl he is after is also in China and I think the method of applying for a UK visa for a Chinese national varies slightly (disclaimer - correct me if I am wrong)

Just admit you jumped on the defensive wagon a tad bit early.

In any case if a person born and bred in Britain couldn't write properly they still wouldn't form sentences and use certain terms like "She make a big error of judgment' like Ukvette does. A UK native  like Rab C Nesbitt would simply say "She made a helluva mistake"/ "She blew it" or "She fcvked up!" even if you they could not write properly.  Another example is when a person writes in Nigerian pidgin English and one can tell immediately that they are not regular speakers of or familiar with the dialect.

I have been informed that this situation now requires the intervention of a specialised lawyer.
My uderstanding is that when the lawyer submits to the UKBP the court hearing date, this is usually sufficient to grant the spouse visa.

I read on the UK border web site that they can not withold a UK visa in the event we are married.
We want to live and have the oportunity of life together in UK.
