Well believe it or not hardly anyone knows who Adewale is outside the US or in England even though he is 'technically' British.

We should be discussing if it was right to convince 2.3 million British people that Nigeria indeed operates in that way

OZ was how many years ago? And he isn't in LOST anymore. He obviously got too big for his boots and left without any decent quality work lined up. Associating yourself with Ghetto movies like 'Get rich or die.   .   .' will not get you respect and recognition as an actor in the industry. If Ade is not careful he is going to typecasted, which means he will always be cast as the African or the gangster in a ghetto movie.


David is on his way believe me. It is only a matter of time before he and Chiwetel become the first actors of Nigerian origin walk away with Oscars. Not knocking Adewale but he needs to diversify a bit. One doesn't always need to look at the paycheck before taking a role as some of the best movies are made on peanuts. See 'Precious' or 'The Hurt Locker' which blew away  billion dollar movie 'Avatar' at this years Oscars.

Its not how many movies you have but the quality of the line up. Ordinary actors could have a long line of commercials while Brad Pitt could have one major movie which pays his $15 milla. Moreover, Oyelowo has not premiered in many movies though.

Well Brad Pitt starred in that long winded mess 'Benjamin Button' which was a load of crap. As I said it is not always about the paycheck.

I have just checked imdb.com. David has plenty of work lined up and is extremely busy. Adewale Agbaje on the other hand has hardly any. While Ade is, without a doubt a great actor, he has not starred in an Oscar winning movie like David. Given those facts I doubt he can command more money than David.

I hardly ever watch BBC made dramas because they more often or it get it wrong especially when it comes to black people. However I found this one quite riveting and in spite of the lousy accents I am quite impressed. Well done BBC!

I guess the fake accent was off putting for most anglo-phone Africans especially Nigerians but I guess the mentality of the producers is that majority of the audience (2.3m) would not have a clue.  So taking away from the quality, only applies to a very small subset of the audience (which I am)  , hence they just ignored.

This is it. The drama was not really meant for a Nigerian audience. If it had been then perhaps they would have given that aspect more attention to detail.

I also agree with your point about Nollywood standing up to the table and getting themselves up to world standard so that they can tell the stories of Nigeria instead of letting the foreign media do the job for them. Some of the stuff that comes out of Nollywood is downright embarrassing!

BBC is doing a film on and in Nigeria but yet half of all the main Nigerian characters in the movie are played by foreigner actors.

Out of the other half that are Nigerians, about 80% grew up and reside outside Nigeria.

Evidence that, as I have always put across, most Nigerian actors are rubbish and substandard. Unfortunately, most of them are comfortable with this due to the mentality of the average Nigerian not trying to be the best they can be. Hence the rubbish production and acting in Nollywood, the crap broadcasting of BEN TV, the cave-like customer service of Nigerian Embassy etc.

Thank God for the likes of the exceptions like Nigezie.

There are plenty of world class actors of Nigerian descent in the UK that they could have used.

They did use David Oyewolo. Perhaps they couldn't afford the others. . Anyway, I am tired of the BBC cutting corners when it comes to these things. The South Africans were obviously cheaper to use and while they may be good actors the obviously false Nigerian accents take away from the quality of the production.

I understand the BBC having to resort to filming this in South Africa but I think that they should of at least gotten some real Nigerians to play the parts of the Africans. Those fake accents are off putting.

Exactly! People are acting like winning those gold medals basically solved all of Britain's financial problems. Most people haven't even heard of those games not to mention that he probably got funding from the British government to participate anyway. Proper funding like a monthly living allowance, professional training to help him achieve his goals. Perhaps he can now make use of that training in Nigeria.

Vincent committed a criminal offence. It doesn't matter if the offence was driving 1 mph over the legal speed limit of going on a killing spree in Peckham. The fact remains that he broke the law and as he is not a citizen he gets to be deported.

Yep, Britain is small Island and can no longer cope with the influx of immigrants like America can with her huge land mast. That being said it is extremely rare of one to be stripped of their naturalized British citizenship. I don't know the full details of Knowall's story but I doubt the criminal in question had British citizenship to begin with or perhaps they had dual nationality? If a person without dual nationality is stripped of the one citizenship they hold then that would be a case for the Human Rights Courts.

Abu Hamza apparently had dual status and was publicly advocating the killing of British Soldiers in Iraq in the centre of London. Once he started doing that then the law was specifically changed to deport his a$$ to whence he came. I don't know why anyone would be surprised at that.

As far as I am aware he is the only one of two people who had his British citizenship taken away. The other was a white Australian who was being held in Guatamano Bay. looking at these two stories it is obvious that terrorism plays a key factor in the decision to strip one of their British citizenship and as I said in order for one to be stripped of it they must have dual nationality.

I would be interested in knowing more about the man Knowall's story.

The move follows the introduction of new powers earlier this week allowing British nationality to be removed from people with dual citizenship who are believed to have acted against the vital interests of the UK.

I don't know. But I know what you are getting at. Please bear in mind that the World wheelchair games (WWG) is hardly on the same level as the Olympics/Paralympics or the world championships. The WWG  appears to be on a very much lower level and in fact I hardly knew it existed until I read this story. Perhaps to be compete in the WWG for a country you only have to be legal resident in that country. In any case Vincent participated in the 90s and I think the rules have changed since then.

More fool Vincent for not getting his citizenship status sorted out before he decided to break the law.

The UK needs a lesson or two in lawyering a la America.

If that guy was in the US, the immigration lawyers, for a nice fee - though some may do it pro bono, would have overwhelmed the system with clauses extracted from every written document, to make sure he remains in the US. That he is even in a wheelchair will only make his lawyers more willing to test the limit of the immigration courts. That he won five gold medals for the US in the mid 90s would have been grounds for him to file for a greencard under the "persons with extraordinary ability" clause. Then within five years he would be eligible for citizenship.

It seems either there aren't enough immigration lawyers in the UK ready to take on the government or the immigration procedure in the UK is very very different from that in the US.

In summary, this is unlikely to happen in America.

This man hasn't the financial means to pay for a big time Lawyer in America. That plus I doubt any Lawyer would risk their reputation and careers to take up a case for a persistent offender who just happened to be illegal. Just like Britain, America has it own fair share of criminals to deal with so why should they have to deal with an illegal one too? Especially one that is a burden on the state finances?

Further more had this case been in America it would have long been done and dusted the first time Vincent's illegal behind broke the law with him back in Lagos where he belongs. To hell with his gold medals! Na Gold medal we dey chop??  As much as I love Britain, I do think that sometimes their compassion can get in the way of common sense. The Americans don't play that. A call centre would offer plenty of job opportunities for young Nigerians in Nigeria but perhaps you should focus on the local businesses first before trying to provide a service to the big multinationals in the West.

I say this because I just can't see big companies like BT, British Gas etc allowing their customers in the UK to freely hand out credit, debit card and other personal identification details to Customer Service Operators in Nigeria. That is the sad truth of it I'm afraid. Such companies got enough flack when they opened up call centres in India and Pakistan and even today these call centres in Asia have not grown as fast as they should have because some some  people in the UK and US simply refuse to deal with them.

Plus none of these companies are looking to get sued to death if they misuse an individuals personal data. This is why as NaijaCutee put it, 'Trust is paramount' in industries like call centres. Nigeria has a long way to go but they should try crawling before running; Start locally first and see how it goes from there.

Tony Blair although born in Scotland choose England as his nationality and we can't question that. He has never addressed himself as a scot. Even when he quit no 10 he moved to where he see as his home town Sedgefield which is an English town.

The lady is half German half Scots. The House of Windsor (English name) only changed its name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (German name) as recently in 1917 to show solidarity with the British people during world war 1. Now why would they need to do that if they were considered primarily English by English people?
