I think swimming is better if you want to de stress and burn calories but if you don't have access to a decent pool jogging is just as good.

We (former colonies) should be closer to the Motherland (Britain) but because we haven't taken care of our countries that's why they treat us this way. Believe me, if our country becomes like Dubai tomorrow, the West will make going to their countries visa free.

That is the way they are. They always want something in return.

I have come to realise that society would expect you to be generous with the truth at all times but they can't handle it! Why don't you go to the Western Embassies and honestly tell them that you want to just come and better your life in their countries?

Fact. Back then there were no visas.

Fact: today in 2010 people must obtain visas to visit certain countries and comply with the conditions of the visa.

Dubai is currently visa free to British citizens as far as I know and vice versa so what is your point?

I won't judge the poster but he willingly broke the law and so must face the consequences. Moaning on NL about his predicament  will not change that fact.

The British signed the EU treaty and so they are essentially powerless to stop EU immigration. Besides plenty of Brits emigrate to other Euro countries and so it is an even playing field.  I don't understand why people ignore this fact as use it as a weak argument to back up their argument.

I think if the British had left in 1980 Nigeria would have been more developed. As it stands Zimbabwe and Angola are more developed structurally and systematically than Nigeria despite all their issues.

If the British had left in 1980 I reckon there would have been:

An efficient sound railway system
An efficient public transport system in general including buses and water buses, possibly a local metro system.
proper water systems in most areas.
local amenities such that benefit the community such as public libraries, leisure parks, sports centres etc
Most towns and cities in Nigeria would have benefited from proper town planning
the electricity problem would not have been as bad as it is now
The value of the naira would not have depreciated as much as it had
I think the British would have developed Nigeria in to a glorious tourist destination as they would have made features out of of Nigeria's unique natural points and improved accessed to them.

Lagos for instance would have looked like and probably been better than Lagos in Portugal.

This list is not exhausted.

I think Nigerians need to be realistic and realise why after 50 years have they failed to developed their country. Stop pointing fingers and start taking responsibility for your failure.

The sad thing is if the British were given a 10 year lease of Nigeria they would probably have all of the above  and more operating efficiently in less than 8 years.

Nigerians and their 'HEAVY CASH FLOW'! Please tell me what use is a heavy cash flow when the quality of life is dire? The stress of sorting out and paying for every single basic amenity yourself from books for your child because there are no libraries available and making sure the generator is adequately filled with petrol because NEPA will inevitably take the light. . .The list is endless. Yes with a 'HEAVY CASH FLOW' one can buy a decent car but are there decent roads to drive on? And what if one doesn't feel like driving? Is there decent safe public transport to go on? And don't get me started on the amount of time it takes one to travel to work. . .getting up at 4 in the morning to beat the traffic and returning home at 11pm only to repeat the process again the next day. What quality of life is that with your 'HEAVY CASH FLOW?' Then after you live like that you eventually die and are buried without the 'HEAVY CASH FLOW' that you value above all things, BULLSHYT!

I would rather pay my monthly stipend, that is TAXES and enjoy the benefits of a decent stress free life. If my kids need books they can borrow them at the local libraries, if they want to do swim, play tennis or kick a football in a real park there are local amenities provided. They will not have the stress of thinking of if there will be light when they get home. They won't suffer the stress of traveling on potholed roads. If I don't feel like driving to another city because I have work to catch up on do I can easily to get a train equipped with wireless so I can connect and do my work, no stress. I easily go to the Supermarket at 1am in the morning if need be without checki g my back for armed robbers. Yes at the end of the month I may not have as much disposable income but I will have piece of mind and when I eventually die my life would not have been unnecessarily stressful had it been if I lived in Nigeria.

I hope Bobby is really in love and is not just going through this marriage to get a visa!

It doesn't matter if one is from the poorest village in Nigeria or the spawn of Bill Gates or Adenuga, travelling and taking time to explore the God's world outside your box is a major achievement in life and something to to tell the world about; Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I am a travel addict myself and I think I am wiser, more educated and more open minded for it.

So what are you into as your not into art? Did you just stay in London during your visit to the UK? If you did next time you come you should try other historic cities with beautiful old architecture such as Bath, York, Canterbury, Stratford (Home of Shakespeare) and Oxford ect. Edinburgh and Dublin are gorgeous too. There are plenty of students in these cities too and so you will feel right at home with your peers. How about Asia? I was in Tokyo not too long ago and it was amazing even though it rained loads. Anyway you are still young and inquisitive and so I am sure you have plenty planned. Just make sure you keep us posted.

Good move. The UK is too small to cope with an influx of immigrants. It is an Island a thousand times smaller than Canada yet already has double the population of Canada. I think for the benefit of those who already live and work here immigration should be stopped completely for at least 10 years. I'm talking about immigrants and not students or visitors.

Yes there is a huge problem with immigration both EU and Non Eu but capping non EU students, wrong move in the interest of the UK.
Non EU students predominently from AFrica and Asia are the ones that keep UK universities afloat for sure!!

They already put a capp on the number of students entering university which will make life harder so tell me in order to facilitate and continue with specialised departments where will the money come from if their capping International students, ?

Hmmm, me thinks they may not have realised the knock on effect this will have on the Universities who are under strain already, 

Overseas students are not the same as immigrants. Most genuine overseas students go home after studying, immigrants on the other hand normally want to work and live in the country long term with their families.

As previously stated, the UK is one of the smallest countries in the world and cannot cope with an influx of immigrants whether they be from EU or not and something drastic has to be done. One can easily fit 900,000 Great Britains into Canada yet Canada only has half the amount of people in it. Methinks immigrants would be better of immigrating to the US or Canada which is in dire need of people. People are a countries greatest asset but unfortunately the UK is at breaking point now and its services can no longer cope.

Even if that wasn't the first storey building in Nigeria, the person who put that sign up ought to be ashamed of themselves as does the local government responsible for that area. Com'on if you are going to make claim like that and go as far as to promote the house as the first by putting up a sign then at least have the decency to fix the house up and make it presentable to potential visitors.

The link below shows the the oldest (1600) surviving house made of timber frame in America. Look how well presented it is?

This a good measure. The UK is full to breaking point and cannot cope with the amount of people already living here. As an Island, the UK is more populated than Canada which is 1000 times bigger than the UK. Methinks Africans and Asians looking to immigrate should try places like Canada or the US.
