GodMode: He didn't hate other tribes... The North successfully deceived him...
Besides, to be a leader in Nigeria you'll have to dislike other tribes..
Imagine if obj wasn't a puppet and channelled Nigeria's money to the development of the SW...
There would have been so much pressure on gej to develop the SS..
But obj f**ked up for not been a tribalist.. well cunny man bury cunny man. thats life. The North deceived Awolowo,Awolowo deceived Ojukwu,Gowon deceived Awolowo,OBJ in turn deceived AWOLOWO. And the deceitful cycle continues. Moral of the lesson is that TRIBALISM is the virus that is slowly killing Nigeria. OBJ and GEJ were never tribal bigots... God always stops Tribal leaders from becoming President. just imagine a Tribalistic Awo as President,he will enslaved other tribes and only allow The Oduduwas to flourish. just imagine Ojukwu as a President,He will drain-off and starve other tribes to their socio-poli-economical death. Well let see what buhari will dance to. |

ludamix: Chief Obafemi Awolowo pictured lying in state in 1987, his trademark cap placed on glass casket. Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo, GCFR was a Nigerian nationalist and statesman who played a key role in Nigeria's independence movement, the First and Second Republics and the Civil War. Some say he died peacefully in his hometown, Ikenne in Ogun state while others argue that the political heavyweight committed suicide after being allegedly betrayed by a loyalist to the military president -(then General Ibrahim Babaginda). Whatever the controversy may be, the foremost leader undoubtedly contributed to the upliftment and development of Nigeria.

coolzeal: Read this article a long time ago and thought I should post it for those that care to read. Obafemi Awolowo is the undisputed hero of the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria whose wartime policy of starvation and currency change helped kill the Biafran dream. The post colonial era of Nigerian history was dominated by three actors, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello. Dr Azikiwe was an avowed nationalist who preferred one Nigeria above anything else. Sir Ahmadu Bello was a tribalist who initially preferred a balkanized Nigeria to enable his people live their religious and cultural life without external negative inluence and was later reluctantly convinced to seek an agenda for a united Nigeria. Chief Obafemi Awolowo from the onset did not hide his preference for an Oduduwa Republic.
Chief Awolowo is idolized by the Yorubas because he was able to transform the South West into an educational and industrial hub in Africa and build a robust political climate. He so much understood the value of education that he made it free, affordable and offered a lot of scholarships to Yorubas to advance academically to the highest level. He ran a political system in Action Group whereby people have their say while the leader has his way.
Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, a core nationalist, never received the level of hero worship Awolowo received in the South West because Igbos severally accuses him of not taking them out of Nigeria when Chief Awolowo and Sir Ahmadu Bello were angling for a balkanized nation. Chief Awolowo was the sage whose idea ended the Nigerian civil war. He advised the Gowon Cabinet to block all food supply to Biafra so as to end the war quickly and according to him ” starvation is a legitimate instrument of war ” This led to the starvation of over one million Biafran children. Thus Awolowo’s advice and actions led to the quick end to the Biafran dream. Therefore it is right to say that what the entire armed forces of Nigeria could not do, the wisdom of Awolowo did. Chief Awolowo convinced Gowon that every adult Biafran who managed to survive the starvation deserved only #20 pounds to start life afresh irrespective of economic status before the war, an action perceived as intended to further reduce the ability of Igbos to recover economically.
Another policy of his which frustrated Biafra’s ability to import food and arms was the change of currency which according to Awolowo” And it is on record that Ojukwu admitted that two things defeated him in this war, that’s as at the day he left Biafra.
He said one, the change of currency, he said that was the first thing that defeated him, and we did that to prevent Ojukwu taking the money which his soldiers has stolen from our Central bank for sale abroad to buy arms…So I decided to change the currency, and for your benefit, it can now be told the whole world, only Gowon knew the day before, the day before the change took place”.
Chief Awolowo has been variously accused of introducing tribalism into the Nigerian politics. He chased Dr Azikiwe out of the Ibadan in 1954 when the NCNC headed by Azikiwe won majority seats in the West Nigerian House of Assembly and through a palace coup called cross carpeting Zik was denied the Premiership of Western Nigeria, at a time when Professor Eyo Ita, an Efik was premier of Eastern Region and Alhaji Umoru Altine , a Fulani, was Mayor of Enugu. Dr Azikiwe, following the footsteps of Awolowo, had to frustrate Professor Eyo Ita out of Enugu. Chief Awolowo and Sir Ahmadu Bello seems to have a deeper understanding of the Nigerian complexities than Dr Azikiwe.
While Awolowo never trusted the Igbos, the north never trusted Awolowo and theYorubas. The northern oligarchy instigated crisis in Western Nigeria in the same manner President Obasanjo used the Uba brothers to instigate crisis in Anambra State. This crisis led to the trumped up charges leading to the trial and imprisonment of Awolowo . Reports has it that he was to be poisoned in prison before the military coup altered the state of affairs.
Awolowo was released from Calabar prison by Biafran leader Odumegwu Ojukwu and there was an agreement that while Ojukwu declares Biafra in the East, Awolowo would declare Oduduwa Republic in the West. The British establishment, sensing the dangers of Awolowo declaring Oduduwa Republic in the West, convinced Gowon and the north to checkmate Awolowo’s secessionist agenda by appointing him the Vice Chairman of Federal Executive Council. This strategy worked effectively and Awolowo was deceived that after Gowon’s tenure he would be given the opportunity of ruling Nigeria. Awolowo thus had to checkmate the Biafran dream to clear any obstacle to his ruling Nigeria while the north was looking for the right opportunity to throw him into the dustbin. In frustration, Awo resigned from Gowon’s cabinet when he realized he has been politically duped.
Awolowo quashed the Biafran dream while the northern establishment killed the Oduduwa dream and betrayed Awolowo’s presidential ambition thrice. This fact was aptly captured by a prominent Yoruba leader and Nigeria’s former minister of aviation Chief Femi Fani-Kayode while replying to a boastful statement by another prominent northern leader, Alhaji Usman Farouk on how the north dominated the Yoruba people and conquered the Niger Delta.
According to Fani Kayode, “the north literally begged Awolowo not to declare Oduduwa Republic and go the way of Biafra even though that was his original intention…Fourthly it was the support that the south west gave to the north that allowed Nigeria to win the war. Fifthly it was the lie that Gowon and the northern leaders fed to Awolowo that he would be made President of the country after the war and after being effectively being made de facto Prime Minister under Gowon during the war that got Awolowo to support them”, invariably, the Igbos and Yorubas were effectively dribbled, divided, manipulated and overpowered.
The ascension of Awolowo’s kinsman Obasanjo as Head of State was another opportunity for him to realize his dream of ruling Nigeria. The 1979 election result was decided in the infamous judgement where the Supreme Court refused Awolowo’s plea that 2/3 of 19 is 13 states therefore declaring Alhaji Shehu Shagari the winner of the election. The north led by Generals Shehu Yaradua and Theophilus Danjuma convinced Obasanjo on why Awolowo should never be the president of Nigeria. Therefore, instead of a runoff election, which some believe could favour Awolowo, the Supreme Court declared Alhaji Shehu Shagari the winner.
Chief MKO Abiola at one point was used by the northern dominated NPN to oppose the presidential ambitions of Awolowo . He used his Nigerian Concord newspaper and enormous wealth to fight Awolowo and UPN and when they finished using him to deal with Awolowo, they frustrated Abiola’s presidential ambition and he had to resign from the party in 1982. Alhaji Umaru Dikko, then transport minister, sent message to Abiola that the presidency is not for sale to the highest bidder. When Babangida annulled the election of Abiola in 1993, Yorubas alluded to a certain curse Awolowo released on Abiola, in the heat of the later’s opposition to his presidency “that even if Abiola was to be given the presidential seat, he would not sit on it”
In 1999, after the suspicious death of Abiola, the northern establishment sensing that Chief Olu Falae was the choice of the Yoruba people, rigged the polls in favour of Obasanjo . It is obvious that the North had shown evidence of being deadly political strategists than their Yoruba and Igbo compatriots, having used the political suspicion between the duos to dribble them. Conclusively, the north is not as dumb as people assume; they used Awolowo to checkmate Biafra and then dealt with Awolowo and his ambitions. The truth.. Thanks a lot for this comprehensive education...... This post deserve 1000 likes.. Moral of this post is that when you deceitful others will deceive you. Cunny man bury cunny man |

fun4: Please make corrections to my list below:
1. Wole Soyinka
Nigeria's only laureate and a major critic of the Jonathan administration, especially the handling of the Rivers state crisis that nearly swept off his favoured son, Amaechi and the handling of the Chibok girls saga. His opinions are highly sort in Nigeria and beyond and many believe that his disdain for the PDP helped swayed south-west( epecially the young and intellectuals) votes against President GEJ.
2. Enerst Shonekan
Former head of the Interim Government of Nigeria in 1993. He is believed to be a supporter of incumbent President GEJ and has never missed any high government function since Jonathan became President.
3. Mike Adenuga
Chairman of telecommunication outfit Globacom and one of Nigeria's richest and out-of-public private citizens. He is a friend of the GEJ government and as such was appointed as Co-Chairman by Jonathan in 2012 to head the flood committee.
4. South-south PDP Governors
They are governors Liyel Imoke( Cross River), Godswill Akpabio( Akwa Ibom), Seriake Dickson( Bayelsa state), Emmanuel Uduaghan( Delta state) and govenor-elect Nyesom Wike( Rivers state - considered to be a nightmare to incumbent governor, Rotimi Amaechi and the APC). They are major financiers and gave Jonathan a bloc-vote during the 2011 and 2015 presidential elections. Rivers state gave GEJ over 1.4million votes to emerge highest from the region.
5. South-east PDP Governors
Abia - TA Orji, Ebonyi - M Elechi, Enugu - S Chime; they tried to replicate the 2011 magic but I guess something happened along the line. Nonetheless, GEJ won convincingly in the zone but could not win nationally in 2015 as was in 2011. The highest GEJ secured from this zone was 500,000+ in Enugu state.
6. Alex Ekwueme
Former Nigerian vice president under Shehu Shagari and a prominent member of those who formed the PDP in 1998. He complained sometime ago of being maginalized in the mani-stream PDP by the Jonathan administration before GEJ visited his state for the PDP presidential campaign.
7. Shehu Shagari
With a waning strength of 80yrs+, former president shagari is an ardent supporter of the PDP from the then OBJ days to Yar'Adua. He benefited to the extent of making his son a minister and then a Deputy Governor in 2007-2015. President Jonathan is believed to have so much respect for this elderly elder statesman and recent joined former leaders to cut his birthday cake in Sokoto.
8. Ibrahim Babangida
Nicknamed the 'Nigerian Maradona.' He ousted the President-elect, GMB and took over power in 1985 and later went on to annul the 1993 presidential election won by late MKO Abiola. Many believe that Buhari still begrudges IBB for his ouster and not allowing him to bury his late mum. He once sort for the PDP ticket in 2011 with JEG along side Atiku and former NSA and current defence minister, Aliyu Gusau. He is still a PDP card-carrying member and preferred GEJ to GMB in the 2015 elections.
10. Innocent Chukwuma
Anambra born entrepreneur cum billionaire is fine protagonist of the Jonathan administration. He is a major beneficiary of the current President's auto policy on home-made vehicles and manufacturing in Nigeria. Innocent is the first indegineous vehicle manufacturing businessman in the country. He manufactures SUVs, pick-up trucks as well as patrol vans for the Nigerian police force and the federal road safety corps. His company was said to have donate about 15 SUVs to the 2015 PDP presidential campaign.
11. South-west Obas
These monarchs are seen as very powerful in the region and they were seen to be more amenable to the Jonathan candidature than Buhari's and more than one occasion openly supported GEJ for the 2015 elections. GEJ was said to have held meeting with all the power-broking monarchs in the region before the elections.
12. Northern states PDP governors
These are the governors of Kaduna, Kebbi, Jigawa, Bauchi, Niger, Adamawa, Katsina, Benue, Plateau, Taraba, Kogi and Gombe states. Of all these governors none was able to win even a LGA for the PDP save for Taraba, Plateau, Kaduna, Adamawa despite all the Billions given them during the presidential elections.
Why they have refused to congratulate the President-Elect on his victory at the 2015 polls is yet unknown but I believe that will be left for historian, researchers and scholars to unravel.
ADD YOURS IF ANY anyway my point is off topic. I just realized that Mark Zukerberg is worth 34.8 billion USD chai. University Education is a big scam... There's no professor in the world that is worth even $10B |

vowiski: The Mobile phone giant foresaw the dooms day; it is unlikely to think that they didn’t. Unluckily, the response by Nokia to the technological trend failed to take the company forward. These four costly mistakes by Nokia would prove to be the reasons why Nokia has seen it’s once dominant brand go into oblivion.
4. Ignored The Market
androidIn 1998, Nokia over threw Motorola as the World’s biggest mobile phone vendor. Nokia continued to dominate and went on to become the largest mobile vendor for straight 14-years. Fast-forward to 2015, the whole scenario has changed! Nokia no longer has that prestigious crown, it has been toppled by Samsung.
Although, Samsung seem to have lost its course and charm. What befell Nokia may befall the South Korea company soon, because Samsung’s Mobile future is falling apart.
Nokia’s inability to make custom phones for the U.S market didn’t win itself many allies among the local carriers; this lead to a further decline in it’s market share. While other companies made friends in the US, Nokia was too conformable with the ego of being the World’s largest phone maker. It had loyal fans in Africa and other European countries and when these fans decided to jump camps, it slept the beginning of doom days for the multi-billion dollar company.
In the Smartphone market share, Nokia is on a steady decline, while Samsung and Apple take the larger cut.
3. Ignored The Threat Of The iPhone
When the iPhone first launched in 2007, it sent shock-waves through-out the industry. It was a landmark achievement by Apple, seeing the massive leap from what the conventional Windows Mobile, Symbian and Palm OS had to offer.
Nokia was particularly blind to the threat of the iPhone. They saw the iPhone as an expensive piece of gadget that would not stand the test of time.
No doubt, the original iPhone was extremely expensive, but it soon became a mainstream gadget once Apple strucked a deal with AT&T; which saw the price fall to as low as $200. From that moment, every iPhone released has sold in millions. iPhone 6 and 6 Plus sales which were very strategic gave the guys at Samsung sleepless nights whose competing flagship, Samsung Galaxy S5 was an embarrassing flop.
The introduction of App Store on the iPhone tied consumers into a world of apps that worked on only the iOS. This cemented the dominance of iPhone, making Nokia phones look like toy.
2. Not Ditching Symbian
rip symbianNokia owns the Symbian OS which simply explains why they were literally stucked with the OS for so long. In 2007 when the original iPhone was released, it showed the weakness of the Symbian OS. In fact, Nokia’s Symbian OS was dated once the iPhone hit the store-shelves.
Also See: Nokia Finally Kills Symbian OS
Symbia OS become a total joke when Google’s mobile operating system; Android was released. Android was cross-platform, it gave other phone manufacturers a new bound-less mobile operating system to work with. Enabling them to compete against the iPhone, Nokia again, didn’t give a hoot.
Symbian OS still had enough juice, Nokia would have thought. That’s a genuine imagination, but Nokia’s loyal fanbase thought otherwise. They saw the age of Symbian OS, and were already jumping camps. Nokia only needed to act during that period but they didn’t, even Motorola which was lost in the Mobile industry found light once it adopted the Android operating system.
Immediately Verizon saw the events, they too gave the Android OS a major push in reaction to counter AT&T’s iPhone. HTC was quick to adopt Android and saw an immediate benefit. Sony and LG followed more slowly, and then Samsung but... http://www.techrez.com/4-embarasing-mistakes-that-led-to-nokia-downfall/ Am still using My Nokia android.. am not a glory-hunter. Nokia once serve the whole Nigeria as the only affordable, when other phones were fucken expensive..... The biggest mistake the made was to partner with Microsoft... |
