Literature / She Is A Ritualist by ankaurspeaks(m): 5:41pm On Nov 25, 2019
SHE IS A RITUALIST

This is becoming worrisome and unbearable. We can no longer tolerate the reprisal of this indecorous act. Na wetin self, ọkụ a na - eme kwa afọ.

It's so sad to witness life hard earnings damaged in a twinkle of an eye. The recent Balogun Market fire disaster saddens the heart.

A fabric store, in particular, was the point of attention. The building, and goods worth millions of Naira were razed completely.

While at the scene of the incident, I saw shop owners from closeby buildings throwing out their wares. They feared a recurrence of the Ochanja market fire disaster in Anambra state, where the whole market got burnt.

On one side, eyewitnesses were narrating how the heartbreaking incident started. Few commenters were also discussing how fetish the owner of the fabrics store was. They all claim the fire disaster is a way the said owner uses to fulfill her covenant.

Fulfilling covenant? Do you mean she does rituals? I was impelled to ask for proof of such a strong allegation.

An Igbo woman responded in a mixture of her dialect and pidgin. "My brother, ọkụ a na - eme kwa afọ. N'ụzọ dị ịtụnanya, she go just gather like say nothing don happen. If next month reach nau, ụlọ ahịa ya ga-ejupụta n’ihe ndepụta ọhụụ. I'm sure Ọ na-eji ọgbụgba ndụ ahụ weghachi nkwa ya na chi ọ na-efe."

Meaning, "My brother, this fire happens every year. Surprisingly, this woman always gets up as nothing has happened. Next month, her store will be full of new listings. I'm certain she uses the covenant to restore her promises to the gods she serves."

I smiled but was astounded at how people fail to understand what made victims get on their feet after such an enormous loss. Instead of yearning for the cause, they chose to resolve to spirituality.

Anyway, as for me, the spirituality in this context is INSURANCE. The woman in question must have insured her wares, hence her sudden rise.

As a business person, insuring your assets should be a top priority. Series of Accidents happened in big companies every now and then. Yes, some have been insuring for years without any critical issues reported. But did they lose anything? Definitely not. They are only sowing seeds that will eventually be reaped in cases of an unexpected incident of this magnitude.

My people, It is wise to ensure that your businesses are insured and appear like a ritualist than to lose your life hard earnings as an ignorant saint.

Literature / Walking The Old Path by ankaurspeaks(m): 11:05pm On Nov 20, 2019
WALKING THE OLD PATH

Williams was a hard-working man with excellent potential to become one of the next under forty millionaires. Most of his friends envy his smartness and the style at which he provides solutions to taxing issues.

One day, Williams was sighted sitting at the corridor in a deeply sobering thought, he looked hopeless and helpless.

Although no one has an idea about his predicaments. All we could see was tears as it rolls down like raindrops.

He tried to narrate his ordeal but his trembling voice overshadows the sound. What we heard faintly was, "I can't help it any longer, my wings are down, I can't fly."

Of all I garnered, I saw a lantern that brightens things but couldn't see itself. Williams doesn't have a slight idea of how positive he has grown.

This is how most individuals fail to nail it. What they frequently see is a stagnant position of themselves, even when they are doing great.

Hey, you might still look haggard and scattered, the truth is, you are getting better as you walk through the old path.

Ride on, but don't forget to infuse the experiences you've gathered.

Beyond the old path lies success, fulfillment, and as well, new challenges.

Literature / My Story, A Tale Of Redemption. by ankaurspeaks(m): 9:27pm On Jul 09, 2019
Growing up in Balogun, a popular area in the heart of Lagos Island, Lagos state, engulf so many memories.

One of such was when I fruitfully maximized a part of numerous advantages enclosed. It was a lifetime learning experience and I won't be fair enough if I don't share it with the world.

The story about to be told was a tale when challenges sprout out of nowhere to obstruct a livelihood that was newly secured. It's one of the most pathetic moments for a young lad who tries to build a career.

It all started when I got an offer to work on contract as a biometric enrollment staff in an Access bank branch located at Lagos island.

On resumption, I met with the branch head to show a copy of the appointment letter gotten from the bank's licensed recruiting firm. Hereinafter, a short questioning section.

There are a few conversations before these below, but this is the part that is useful for this story.

Branch Manager: Where do you reside?

Me: My abode is a stone throw from here.

Branch Manager: Oh! That's nice. Did you relocate to this area because of the job?

Me: No sir; I was born and bred in Balogun, Lagos Island.

He looks flabbergasted as he turned to his assistant and ask, did you hear him?

In Surprisal, the assistant stood up and began to take photographs of me. This time, I wasn't too comfortable with what was going on. I thought perhaps, a former staff that resides in this location had done terrible things in the past (some Lagos islanders can be so terrible at times).

While still meditating, the Branch Manager said, I am surprised to have seen someone who grew up around here appear so calm and responsible. Anyway, congratulations and welcome to Access bank. I hope your performance will be convincing enough.

After all the paparazzi, I was introduced to other staffs of the branch. In the process, I underwent portal registration for new staffs as well as basic training on how to enroll a customer for biometric.

All through the working hours, I was able to register eleven customers and my heart was filled with gladness. I forwarded the treated customer's forms to the branch manager for authorization, but I was dismayed by his response.

With a face filled with anger, he said, " it seems you are not ready for work. You are expected to enroll a hundred customers in a day." As I was about to speak, he interrupted me, and said, go back to your table, write your resignation letter and bring it here". I was shocked.

As I walk off his table, I was overwhelmed with sadness and the fear of losing the job some hours into it. I began to ponder on what next.

Suddenly, the thought of who to seek advice from came to mind. The chief security officer (CSO) was the oldest in the branch, so I decided to approach him for guidance.

While having conversations with him, he said, "my brother, you are the fifth staff posted to this branch for biometric enrollment; you must buckle up if you wish to retain the job". Amongst other advice, he insists on me to contact my colleagues in other branches for guidance.

As I reflect over the CSO's advice, I remembered the story of Julaybeeb, a man who in the midst of utmost rejection showed maximum courage to fight for genuine acceptance.

A few minutes later, I mustered the courage, and walk up to the branch head to apologize for the low performance. I then used the medium to seek permission to understudy a biometric staff from another branch.

He looked straight into my eyes, kept quiet for a few seconds before he granted my request. I decided to choose a branch situated in the market environment, just as mine. The idea is to learn in details what the biometric staff in a similar market branch was doing right.

I visited the other branch and I met with a young smart lady. I told her my story and she was willing to assist. We had a long conversation on possible ways to meet the required targets and scopes to relate with the bosses.

Most importantly, she advises me to penetrate the markets around me. She was confident there are lots of market men and women who are yet to register for biometric.

While on the way to my branch, I began to contemplate on how to make use of what was learned. Then, a solution came through my mind. My mother sells in a closeby market, aside from that, she is also a member of the market committee. So I already had what to leverage on.

I got to the branch and gave the branch manager feedback of what was learned. Then, I requested to allow me to go into the market to fetch for unregistered customers. But he declined for reason best known to him.

I had to convince him of some facts. I explained that, aside from growing up in this locality, my mother sells in the Oke-Arin market. And I said with assurance, "I will convince market men and women to open accounts in this branch, and as well enroll multitude for biometric verification."

I felt he needed me to do that, he granted the request immediately after the assurance. But he warned me to be careful with my dealings. As I was about leaving, he reminded me that securing my job hangs on how better I perform.

The following day, I set out like a starving blue shark, dived into the nooks and crannies of the market to exhume unregistered customers for biometrics.

Though, I knew it will be very challenging for an individual like me who wasn't trained on marketing. But when challenges came calling, the brain works extraordinarily perfect. I braced up to secure my job and as well, a livelihood.

Few weeks into the new challenge was so hectic. Despite the leverage, I couldn't enroll beyond the previous. All the effort infused was to no avail. They all kept saying the same thing in their local dialect.

BI FI N? E WO TUNI BI FI N? AWON ARA BANK PELU ARA OTUN. EMI O SHEE OOO. Meaning, "BVN? which one is BVN? Bankers with different innovations. I'm not interested.

The branch head was on me to raise the bar or resign. My boldness began to fade off as I got lost in deep thought.

Then, here comes a night when I made a decision to quit. I prepared a resignation letter to be handed over the next morning.

Career / Visualize The End by ankaurspeaks(m): 2:41pm On Jun 10, 2019
Visualize the End.

Have you ever been in a situation where your set goals are shambled and appears difficult to achieve? I am once a victim. So I knew how it feels like.

Most times when those goals are set and we couldn't accomplish it, we begin to wonder what went wrong. The simple truth is, most individuals fail in achieving their goals while setting it.

These set of individuals have never had the real pictorial ending of what they intended to achieve. So, achieving their set goals is like dreaming to walk on the ocean.

How easy can you get the pictorial ending of a set goal? The illustrations below will help.

If you intend to shop at ShopRite on a Saturday at noon for your newly found love, the basic fact is, the moment will be programmed in your conscious mind prior to that day.

So, the moment you step out of your home, office or wherever at that period, ShopRite will be your next stop.

Until that is fulfilled, the mind will keep remembering you of what you've registered in it. So as having the aim to celebrate your birthday, attending a friend wedding, and so on.

If you can place priority to your business and life goals the manner it was placed on your social life, you'll always have what you've envisioned registered in your conscious mind. Hence, aiding you to strive in achieving it.

What are you intending to achieve today?

Sports / Uefa Champions League: What To Expect In Final Against Liverpool And Tottenham H by ankaurspeaks(m): 3:28pm On May 24, 2019
UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: How Liverpool Fc and Tottenham Hotspur survived through the semis and expectations ahead of the final.

Football matches have always been left undecided until the center referee blew the whistle at the final minute of the match, which is mostly after 90 minutes or some few added minutes, as the case may be.

Some weeks back, the 2018-19 champions league finalists emerged, Liverpool FC, and Tottenham Hotspur. They both upturned a three goals deficit to qualify ahead of FC Barcelona and AFC Ajax respectively in high-intensity matches at the second leg of the semis.

This is the first time in a decade two premier league teams will be featuring in the UEFA champions league final. The last time was in 2008 when Manchester United triumph Chelsea FC in Moscow to lift it third UEFA champions league trophy.

The outstanding performance of Liverpool FC at Anfield.............

For the second consecutive year, the five times European champion who lost to Real Madrid in the 2017-18 final will again play in the final of the European most prestigious tournament, the Uefa champions league. Two goals apiece from Gini wijnaldum and Divock Origi was enough to take the kops to the Spanish capital and as well dumped out a team captained by a five times Ballon d'Or winner.

Although progression seems impossible for the reds following a disappointing outing in the first-leg at the Camp Nou. The Reds went down three goals without a consolation. The situation got worst when most of the club first team players were affected by injuries. So, it appears somewhat that Jurgen Klopp side won't be participating in the final this time.

But hey, it was magical at Anfield. The Kopites shows FC Barcelona Allstars why Anfield is a fortress to visiting teams. The fans raising their voices and chanting was an addition to the coaching staffs discovery to outsmart the Barcelona players after that comfortable three-goal lead in the first leg.

It was gathered that some members of the coaching staffs did a proper reviewed of past Barcelona matches, including the first leg against Liverpool. And Part of the outcomes of the reviewed was the brain behind the decisive corner kick by Trent Alexander Arnold that dumps Lionel Messi and co out of the 2018-19 champions league.

The Lucas Mora moment at the Johan Cruff Arena...........

Tottenham Hotspur wowed the footballing world with an epic comeback against the young, energetic, and talented AFC Ajax team that had evicted the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus FC amongst other top teams from the tournament.

During the first leg, AFC Ajax stunned the host by a goal to nil at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. With an away goal in the bag ahead of the second leg, the Eredivisie champion scored twice again in front of their own fans to make it three goals on aggregate. At half time during the second leg, Pochetinno and his boys were on the verge of exiting the champions league. After all, the team has managed to qualify to the semis despite been hit by injuries and suspension.

Here comes the Lucas Mora moment. In the absence of Harry Kane through injury, and the likes of Dele Ali, Christian Eriksen, and Son Heung-min not in their best form, Lucas Mora took the center stage. He scored a hattrick that made Tottenham Hotspur progression to the UEFA champions league final possible for their first time ever. It is a magical moment for him and the rest of the team. They made the unbelievable believable.

Expectations ahead of the Finals in Madrid..........

A highly contested match between Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur is expected at the Estadio Metropolitano stadium in Madrid on June 1, 2019. And this is why I arrive at that conclusion.

Literature / The Crazy Moment I Acted Like A Don - Final Part by ankaurspeaks(m): 8:45am On Apr 02, 2019
The crazy moment I acted like a DON - Final Part.

The Lessons Learned.

Lesson one:

Concisely, I detest impersonation because it most times affect personality. But despite the discomfort of being an imposter, at that instance, I couldn't have thought of a different thing to do.

Growing up in Lagos is a lesson in itself. In this part of the world, I have learned that civilians have greater regard for military personnel, hence, the act of an impostor. Although it wasn't a better approach I must confess.

Come to think of it, what if there was real military personnel in that vicinity. But hey, something terrible might have happened too if I had decided to sit on the fence.

I had once sat on the fence and watch a life ruined. It still lingers and I can't afford to be guilt-sick anymore.

Lesson Two:

If I could remember, the first and only time I had the privilege to be trained by a soldier was in February 2013. And that was in parade sessions during NYSC, precisely the first three weeks in camp. So, how on earth do I acquire the skill to act as an undercover agent? Jokes.....

In life, you can only give away what you've previously acquired. Far beyond my relationship with soldiers years back, I have long made a conscious decision to always defend the defenseless no matter the circumstances.

The big question is, what deliberation have you made in support of the powerless?

All required from you is zeal, courage, and boldness. Not necessarily in physicality, but financial and otherwise too. Inasmuch as it won't disrupt your happiness and safety.

Nelson Mandela once said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” Take a step today

Lesson Three:

One good thing that amused me was when everyone at the park irrespective of tribe or religious beliefs stood to defend the broad-chested man from the hand of his tormentor. We all stood for him because we had realized that the conductor wanted to cheat and as well humiliate him.

Ask yourself, what type of person are you? Are you the type that waits to verify if the person in crisis is of your tribe or religion before you step in to help. Are you that person that has made a vow to never have anything to do with a certain tribe or religion, all because of your past experiences with a person or people?

You see, there is something you must know. At first, we are human beings before tribe and religion came visiting. So, don't allow a common visitor to separate you from another human being whom you are obliged to shared love with and be kind to. Remember we all emanate from the first man, Adam.

Final words....

The best of mankind are those who tolerate one another. Standing up for each other in time of crisis/need is the best way to continue to live in harmony. Let's shun racism of all kinds and respect each other's beliefs.

My name is Oyewole Moshood (Ankaurspeaks), I'm passionate to help the youths shun negativity, embrace positivity and lead a meaningful life of impact and value.

The crazy moment I acted like a DON - part 2

Just as the speed of light, my conscious mind whispered to me, Oga you don dey pass your boundary (you've gone beyond the limit).

But because I was born and bred in that part of Lagos, I knew what will happen if I had shivered.

So, I decided to maintain the status quo of still in charge. I collected all the money with the conductor, gave the chesty man his balance, and I handed over the rest to the bus driver.

Without wasting much time, I immediately signaled the guy to leave as I am also in a haste to disappear from the scene before they realize who I truly was.

It's the combination of funny, scary and terrible experience. I can't really quantify the level of my fear after that slap.

====================================

This wasn't shared because I want to be perceived as the DON, moreover, I wasn't one.

I shared the story mainly for us to learn a few lessons.

I will be sharing my thoughts about lessons I learned on this platform soon, but before then, I want you to share with us what you've learned from the story.

Literature / The Crazy Moment I Acted Like A Don. by ankaurspeaks(m): 11:52am On Mar 29, 2019
The crazy moment I acted like a Don.

A couple of days ago, while returning home after a stressful day at work, I got caught up in an ugly scene. A fight broke out between two individuals but my immediate action, like that of a Don saves a life.

From a little distance where I was, I saw two guys exchanged words angrily, and as I move closer I noticed it was a disagreement between the conductor and a passenger of a particular bus. The disagreements were based on a balance of transport fare.

Though, as Lagos is, someone must be very careful before intervening in an issue that doesn't much concerns you. Since none of it is my worries, I decided to keep my distance and watch.

While keeping a close watch, I noticed one of the guys (the conductor) was very slim and the other is the complete opposite, huge, tall, and chesty. In my mind, I had already felt pity for the conductor and I prayed the disagreement doesn't lead to a fight.

The disagreements went on before a fight finally broke up between them. But to my surprise, the huge chesty guy whom I had envisaged to smack down the conductor was seen been beaten up instead.

I was flabbergasted, the same as you are right now.

The other passengers quickly alighted the bus and began to accuse the conductor wrongly. It was then I realized who exactly was at fault, so I decided to interfere.

Here comes my act like a DON.

I started by acting up like an undercover agent, and in sub-zero's voice, I asked both of them to come over to where I am standing. They both approach me overwhelmed with fear.

While listening to what transpired and the thoughts of other passengers in the same bus, I was able to deduce that the conductor had refused to give the broad-chested guy his balance and still, he decided to intimidate him.

I got furious, and unconsciously, I directed a big slap to the conductor's cheek.

Yee paa, I'm done

Causes And Solutions To Youth Exemption In National Politics..... Final part

Rotation of old politicians into elective positions:

This is a cancer in virtually all the African countries; politicians in this continent have always rotated themselves in elective or selective positions. Do you know that the longest-serving president in the world is the incumbent president of Cameroon - President Paul Biya? He has been at the helm of affairs in Cameroun for more than 42 years. Idriss Deby of Chad, Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, are few among the incumbent African presidents who have withheld power for more than 10 years in their respective countries. This is to show the magnitude at which the youths are been side-lined. This invariably, has dashed the hope of many African youths from participating in the political and democratic system.

Nigeria as a country in Africa, is deeply rooted in rotating old politicians into elective positions. These politicians prefer to be in positions of authority for decades, instead of building a brighter future for the nation by encouraging the youths to attain the leadership roles they have held for years. As such, these set of politicians are killing the interest of the youths to participate in core economic discussions, hence, steadily dragging the nation to its downfall.

A Political Scientist and former Student Union President of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Abdullahi Oyekanmi, in one of his writings, gave insights on how to avert the rotation of older politicians. He writes, “Taking over power would not come with ease; the youth must be prepared to have generals ready because, it won’t go without the blood of ideas and unprecedented courage. The youths do not need to be merely idealistic; they must be thoroughly breaded in ideological warfare of Marxism”.

Youths in Africa need to unite with one voice (just as the founders of the Nigerian Youth Movement did in the 90s), and form an army of soldiers adorned with guns of ideas and strategic shield, to protect the country from further collapse. They must participate wholeheartedly in political and democratic processes, and vote for vibrant youths with the zeal for advancement and the will for National Development.

Politics / Causes And Solution To Youth Exemption In National Politics.........part 3 by ankaurspeaks(m): 3:33pm On Feb 21, 2019
Imposition of candidates on the youths by political godfathers:

This act is one of the major causes of degradation in the participation of youths in Nigeria’s political and democratic processes. Imposition of candidates destroys the unity among party members in political parties, as well as the general public. Imposition of candidates is brutal to the political stability of a nation, yet, this barbaric act is practiced by the so-called political godfathers in Nigeria. Imposing candidates on the youths who have prepared for political positions through full participation in Community Development, weakens the youths’ morale to further participate in community or nation-building.

The development and future of any nation that deliberately debilitates or cripples the involvement of youths in politics and National Development, hangs on a cliff and swings like a pendulum. Therefore, political party members in Nigeria are hereby advised to stand against the imposition of candidates and insist on party primaries. They should also enormously support the inclusion of youths in the National Working Committees and enforce strict penalties on any member found culpable of imposing candidates.

The Nigerian populace should encourage youths that actively participate in Community Development, by supporting them to attain Legislative and Executive leadership positions, especially now that the “Not too young to run” bill has been signed into law. Nigerians should also speak and campaign against the barbaric act of imposing candidates on the populace.

Causes And Solution to Youth Exemption in Politics.........Part 2

Financial handicap due to abject poverty and deliberate act to disenfranchise the youths by making unwanting laws.

According to World Poverty Clock in June 2018, over 86 million Nigerians live in extreme poverty, which is 44.2% of the nation’s population (the number has increased tremendously in the past eight months). The unemployed and underemployed youths cover more than 20% of this statistic. This signifies that a large number of Nigerian youths live below poverty level and invariably, lack the funding capacity to partake in the nation’s political sphere (funding campaigns and execution of little projects in the communities). This inability to raise the required capital or resources, has relegated the youths to common voters and supporters of political parties.

In another way round, the selfish motives of political actors in Nigeria have overridden the goodwill to make suitable laws for the general public, mostly the youths. Over time, they have deliberately made laws to scare the youths off top elective political offices. A typical example is an unnecessary hike in the sales of nomination and interest forms for presidents and senators by political parties. I know of a sound-minded individual and Successful entrepreneur, who stepped down from the presidential race all because of the abnormal cost of party nomination and interest form.

Education is said to be the greatest weapon against poverty, therefore, the youths should acquire more of vocational and entrepreneurial skills, in order to alleviate poverty and be self-sufficient. This is one of the recommendations highlighted in the previous article on youth and political violence in Nigeria.

A Yoruba adage goes does, "when bigger trees falls on the smaller ones, the best approach is to remove the bigger ones first". The same approach must be applied by Nigerian youths if they are keen to salvage the much corrupt democratic process. Having a young, energetic, vibrant and result driven president is a wish for all Nigerian youths but they must start solving the problem from the basis. The youth should first seek to occupy the state and national assembly to reorganize and amend the constitution where necessary. Hereinafter, a working and unbias economy which will pave the way to finally and peacefully elect young leaders to occupy top positions.

If the youths in Nigeria can align with the recommendations above, there will be a drastic reduction in the number of unemployed and underemployed youths, as well as in the number of those living in abject poverty. Hence, It facilitates raising capital to execute little community projects and as well, aid the youths to be financially ready to copiously participate in the Nation’s political and democratic system.

Causes And Solutions To Youth Exemption In National Politics...........Part 1

Thankfully, there are lots of youths vying for top elective positions in the country. But the big question many kept asking was, are the youth ready to wrestle and strip the old off power?

Yes, most of the youths are not ready. Their assumption or rather the belief they had is that striping the old off power is like a rugby match or that of a fisticuff. That is why they abusively attack political office holders via social media handles whenever they wanted to air their views on recent happenings.

Forgetting that lack of genuine participation and failure of the youths in Nigeria to acquire basic knowledge of politics shows a lack of readiness to attain elective political offices in Nigeria. These are parts of the key reasons why the youths are left out of the country’s decision-making process.

Acquiring knowledge about Nigeria’s political and democratic system, does not necessarily mean to understudy prominent politicians or badge a Ph.D. in political science or any other related course.

Sufficient knowledge about Nigeria’s political and democratic system can be acquired through active participation in Community Development. This serves as a mentoring stage to learn new things about politics and leadership. In Nigeria, the youths’ nonchalance towards participating in Community Development and genuine discourses on politically related issues, has prevented them from attaining certain positions in the nation’s economic building.

Development as it starts from the grassroots, hence, the Nigerian youth should as a matter of urgency, resuscitate her involvement in the nation’s politics by partaking in the development processes in communities and towns in the local governments of the country.

This will serve as a preparatory foundation for them to take up the mantle of leadership in the National political sphere. The youths must also show excellent participation in political discussions at various ward levels in Nigeria, as this will help build the creativity, objectivity, compassion, and confidence needed in leadership positions. It will also aid to cultivate the respect and support they need to vie for elective positions in all arms of government in Nigeria.

In the next parts, I will give hints on how the youths can stay in line financially with the old politicians. I will also discuss and proffer solutions on how godfatherism and rotation of older politicians have deprived the youths the active involvement in democracy.

Politics / Who Are The NYM Founders And What Was Their Ideology? by ankaurspeaks(m): 3:59pm On Feb 18, 2019
YOUTH EXEMPTION IN NIGERIA’S POLITICS AND HOW TO INTEGRATE THEM IN THE POLITICAL SPHERE

Introduction continue......

Who are the NYM founders and what was their ideology?

Youth involvement in the Nigerian political system can be traced back to the 90s when the first genuine Nigerian nationalist organization, “The Nigerian Youth Movement” was founded in Lagos, in 1933. The founding members of NYM were dodged and vibrant youths, who aimed to sustain the political advancement of Nigeria and intensify the socio-economic status of her citizens. Professionals like, Professor Eyo Ita (30), Ernest Okoli (40), Samuel Akinsanya (37) and Sir Kofo Abayomi (38), were among the founding fathers of the organization. This set of youths were the driving force that won the Lagos Town Council elections, ending the dominance of Herbert Macaulay of blessed memory and the National Democratic Party (NDP). They stood on their tentacles despite all odds to defend the interest of the people and protect the future of Nigeria; they understood that the growth of the nation hung on their shoulders.

They created a just atmosphere for the people to develop faith and confidence in the organization, through the fair leadership style they exemplified. As a result, the masses gave them the required support that enabled them to find solutions to most issues of Community Development and welfare of the people. The transparent and fair leadership of the NYM encouraged the likes of Chief Nnamdi Azikwe (33), Chief Obafemi Awolowo (29) and many other notable young political minded fellows, to develop an interest in the organization’s agenda and join the movement.

Decades after the demise of these young leaders, the participation of youths in politics has retrogressed massively, despite the fact that they make up more than 35% of the nation’s population. This retrogression was due to the inactive participation of youths in political discourse relating to National development and their lack of respect for democratic principles, values, etcetera. This inactiveness has placed the youths in non-prominent positions in today’s democratic process and they have been marginalized in political and decision-making processes.
It is high time the youths in Nigeria reflected on the past and return to active participation in political and democratic activities; thankfully, the “Not too young to run” bill has been passed and signed into law by the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration.

According to Samson Itodo, the Executive Director of YIAGA AFRICA (a youth-based non-governmental organization), “it is not necessary for the youth to be in authoritative positions but it is mandatory to attain leadership positions in order to embrace service to humanity.” By strategically analysing Samson Itodo’s words, it can be deduced that before the youth can attain the position of authority, he must learn to embrace service to humanity by vying for leadership positions. It also implies that the youth needs to show his readiness by contributing to the development of the Nation; this will help him achieve the desired authoritative position(s).

On this note, further discussions will be based on some causes of youth exemption in politics and the necessary steps on how to integrate them back into the system. Stay tuned.

Politics / Youth Exemption In Nigeria’s Politics And How To Integrate Them Back by ankaurspeaks(m): 11:13pm On Feb 17, 2019
YOUTH EXEMPTION IN NIGERIA’S POLITICS AND HOW TO INTEGRATE THEM IN THE POLITICAL SPHERE

Introduction......

Youths in Western Countries of the world through immense participation in political and democratic processes, have exhibited persistent determination to elect preferred politicians into various arms of government. This group of individuals have remained the key components not just in electing political office holders, but also in producing National leaders below the age of 40 years. The likes of Sebastian Kurz of Austria and Enrico Caratonni of San Marino, were elected as Presidents in October 2017 at 31 and 32 years respectively. However, the scenario in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, is at variance with happenings in other democratic parts of the world.

Youths in African Countries are yet to wake up from their deep slumber. Very few youths in Africa are active in political and democratic processes and this has to a large extent prevented them from participating in discussions pertaining to national importance. Do you know that the youngest serving president in Africa is a 46-year-old man, who has spent 17 years in power? President Joseph Kabila of The Democratic Republic of Congo attained power at age 29, in 2001, days after his father, President Laurent-Desire Kabila, was assassinated. He has since remained the only youth to attain such a position in Africa.

Just like in other African countries, Nigerian youths are often underdogs to older politicians due to reasons ranging from inadequate knowledge of the democratic process, to lack of participation in Community Development; these acts are contrary to the sermon preached by the founders of the Nigerian Youth Movement (NYM), an organization founded in the 90s.

Who are the NYM founders and what was their ideology?

Stay tuned.

Politics / Youth And Political Violence In Nigeria; The Lagos Island Example And The Way Fo by ankaurspeaks(m): 12:40pm On Feb 16, 2019
Youth and political violence in Nigeria; the Lagos island example and the way forward. Final Episode

Why are the youths used as disruptive instruction in politics? Continue.......

Nigeria youths should know that poverty is a threat to peace, national security and the reality of a nation, therefore it is most kind for the youths to ask important questions from those that pose to represent them at all levels. Typical questions based on positive empowerment, peace, and development.

The youths in Nigeria should open up their mind to know who among these politicians are worthy to follow. They should learn not to accept all promises made by these politicians; rather the youths should vote in people with good conscience and be a frontier for peace and development. The youths should not be involved in supporting a political party or voting during elections alone, they should also participate in democracy by vying for legislative and executive positions at all cadres of Nigeria government.

The youth should strive to acquire Knowledge on how to develop positively in other to have a great impact on economic development. The Nigerian graduates and youths, in general, should seek to learn in particular vocational alongside entrepreneurial skills because the chances of getting white collar jobs are minute. There are numerous entrepreneur platforms which are created to aid in imparting skills, sponsor start-ups financially and otherwise. Such platforms include; Africa Young Entrepreneur Empowerment Nigeria, (AYEEN), The Tony Elemelu foundation, (TEF), and Ceos’hub (a multinational organization for start-ups and entrepreneurs), among others.

The supporters and followers of political parties and politicians respectively should seek dialogue on serious political issues that can cause rift and violence. They should also learn to abolish the mentality of the blame game.

State governments are advised to establish or in other cases see to the functionality of independent peace and conflict resolution agency to curb continuous conflict as well as promoting peace in all communities during and after electioneering processes. This will put an end to youths participation in violence that is either politically driven or not.

Finally, the national security forces through their intelligence units should intensity efforts to detect areas that are prone to violence and be proactive enough to stop all intending feud in all region. The traditional rulers, leaders, and stakeholders in various communities across the country should work handily in dispute resolutions.

If proper consideration is put into the recommendations above,

Nigeria democratic processes will be applauded by international communities.

Politicians will achieve their political ambitions without instigating the youths against one another.

The youths will be the first point of call for economic building through the knowledge acquired (in particular, vocational and entrepreneurial skills).

The youths will have a large number of representatives among those in the helm of affairs.

There will be lasting peace in all geopolitical zones of the country.

And the participation of youths in political violence across Nigeria states will not only be grounded but there will be a drastic reduction of violence in political gatherings, electoral processes and the nation at large.

Thank you for staying tuned. This is where I will end the series on this topic. Hopefully, during the week, I will take you through "Youths exemption in Nigeria politics and how to integrate them back into the political sphere."

Youth and political violence in Nigeria; the Lagos Island example and the way forward.

Continue.....

Stainless was discharged from the hospital but lost his sight after several surgeries, Kunlepoly later resurfaced and he secretly reconciles with Stainless, but the youths gathered to perpetuate this unrest loses their sense of responsibilities, some sustained life injuries, while others lose their lives.

A boy named Ganiu who was popularly called “Mental” is one of the frontiers for Stainless boys, he was captured and shot by the special anti-robbery squad during a robbery incident in Lagos state, years after the feud has been settled. Who knew maybe the guns with him gingered him to partake in the robbery.

The unfortunate part of this scenario is that the political parties and politicians later denied their involvement in the clash; rather they said the dispute between the two leaders was based on territorial disagreement.”

In the illustration above, It is seen clearly that none of the politician's children get involved in this act. So, this should serve as a lesson to the youths that they shouldn’t allow themselves be used as political machinery by politicians or political parties because “when the youth fight for nothing, there is nothing to be gained.” It was also deduced from this scenario that most violence in politics is engineered by some top politicians who don’t care to destroy the life of Nigeria youths to achieve their political will.

These politicians in most cases deliberately weaken the educational system, refuse to pay staffs salaries, and fail to create employment opportunity for the nation teaming youths, deprive the populace of basic amenities, infrastructure, and so on. They went further to frustrates the private firms to pay higher tariff charges, all in the aim to get Nigerians used to poverty and frustration, and in this case, it becomes easier to secretly handpick the youths to perpetrate violence at their command.

Politicians should note that instigating one youth against another in a bid to achieve political ambitions is barbaric and totally unacceptable. These set of politicians should understand that the youths are the bedrock for sustainable development of any nation if they are positively investing in.

The act of godfatherism in politics should be properly checked because it causes the major reasons why violence is greatly embedded in Nigeria democratic process. Every elected politician should be given the free will to relate and answer to the calling of his/her people.

Politicians at all level should seize the opportunity given to them by the masses through vote as a means to provide lasting peace, basic amenities and foster development within their respective regions. Empowering the youths to be self-sufficient will greatly boost their own chances to achieve political ambitions alongside good record. Hence, enhances national peace, security, economic stability, and development.

As for the youths, there are better ways to participate in democracy than instigating violence. Stay tuned for the roles and responsibility of youths in the concluding part of this series which will be posted in the early hours on the Election Day.

Politics / Why Are The Youths Used As Disruptive Instruments In Politics?" by ankaurspeaks(m): 9:40pm On Feb 14, 2019
Why are the youths used as disruptive instruments in politics?"

The youths cover a large percentage of the population in Nigeria and over thirty percent of these youths are unemployed, majorities are graduates from different institutions in and outside Nigeria. These set of unemployed youths are seen day by day roaming the street to find a livelihood, failure to find a good means of living leads to frustration, and some of them out of impatience engage themselves in immoral acts like gambling, hard drugs, pickpocket, internet fraud, prostitution and many more. These youths got frustrated to the extent of accepting any offer that comes their way, such as been hired as political thugs to cause mayhem in political functions. A real-life scenario of the use of youths as political thugs is highlighted below.

“Prior to the 2007 governorship election in Lagos state, there was a feud between the supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN. Two known supporters from these political parties turned the whole of Lagos Island Local Government of Lagos state into a battle arena, leading to the death of several promising and innocent youths.

It all started when a former senator of the federal republic of Nigeria and minister of works during President Olusegun Obasanjo second term in office, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe appointed Hon. Saidi Salawe, a onetime Lagos Island Local Government chairmanship aspirant on the platform of the PDP and Abdul-Azeez Kunle Lawal popularly known as Kunlepoly to oversee the functions of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) in Lagos Island. The two appointees, who see this appointment as an opportunity to use federal might, consistently frustrate the efforts of Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA), a traffic control agency in the state. The LASTMA officers who felt powerless and intimidated reports this case to the appropriate quarters and actions are been deliberated to curb their acts. On a fateful day, Salawe decided to visit the local government secretariat for some issues, on the sight of him by the executives, the head of operations Mrs. Aderinola Disu ordered for his immediate arrest. He was arrested by the Nigeria police force but was later released through the influence of PDP chieftains in the state.

The duo who knew they had the full backing of the federal ruling party; PDP, used the medium to overpower anyone that crosses their line in the state. This sends a strong signal to the ruling party in the state, ACN, and collectively they were thinking about how to put an end to this continuous threat by Kunlepoly and Salawe. While contemplating on possible actions to be taking, a well-known supporter and member of the ACN in Kunlepoly’s locality, Abu Ismaila popularly called Stainless, decided to confront the intimidators and this confrontation marked the beginning of unrest in major areas of Lagos Island during that period.

In a bid to silence each other, Stainless and KunlePoly gathered in large number miserable youths from different areas to serve as gladiators in support of their cause. Guns and other life ammunitions were provided for these youths to carry out this heartless act. All political functions in this region at this period were always disrupted either by Stainless or Kunlepoly gangs depending on which political party handling the gathering. This went on through the electioneering process and a lot of killings took place, that includes the death of Kunlepoly’s close relation.

After two years of unrest in this region, the two gang leaders were persuaded by peace-loving elders to put an end to the mayhem, they both yielded, and a date was fixed for reconciliation but an unfortunate incident happened on this day. Stainless was shot in the eyes by a member of Kunlepoly’s gang while reconciling. Stainless boys retaliated immediately and the gathering was scattered. Due to this incident, Stainless was hospitalized, Kunlepoly went on an exile for months, the respective gangs kept their guns and they all remain in silence till this present moment.

Unfortunately, no one could repatriate these ammunitions from the boys and it is believed that the majority of them are still in possession of these dangerous weapons.

And like a blockbuster Nollywood movie, this is just the beginning. Stay tuned for the final episode.

Politics / Youths And Political Violence In Nigeria; The Lagos Island Example And The Way F by ankaurspeaks(m): 10:56am On Feb 13, 2019
While in a conversation with some friends a few days back, one of them asked, moshood, where do you stand? What are your views about the whole electioneering process? And because I'm so passionate about the youths and as well good governance, I have decided to respond to his questions with this series on "Youths and Political Violence in Nigeria; The Lagos Island Example and the Way Forward."

This will be the point of discussion for the next three days.

Political violence encompasses political assassinations, Killings, political-thuggery, Stealing of ballot boxes and papers, intimidations, riggings, and fraud. Electoral fraud is also part and parcel of political violence and there has been a bane of our nascent democracy.

Taking Nigeria democracy as a case study, political violence poses a serious threat to the genuineness of electoral processes in federal, state and local government of Nigeria. Political activities/functions are mostly disrupted by violence in all geopolitical zones of the country and this has created a hindrance between democracy and development. A large number of followers and supporters of politicians and political parties respectively believes violence is a necessity to achieve political objectives. Their leaders see this urge and they produce for them the resources (firearms and other dangerous weapons) needed to carry out the dreadful acts.

After several years of reclaiming democracy from the military, the violence embedded in Nigerian democracy has often deteriorated the democratic process of this nation.

According to Webster, politics is the science and art of government; political activities, beliefs, and affairs, factional scheming for power. In another term, Politics can be described as an activity carried out by the government to govern, stabilize, and increase the wellbeing of the people. In a democracy, political parties are created by people to represent their interests and ideas; these parties are designed with manifestos that suit their objectives.

The individuals in these political parties often agree on the same terms to achieve a common goal. In recent years, Nigeria politicians had cultivated the habit of moving from one political party to another in other to achieve their personal interests. Followers, in this case, tend to align with their leaders and move with them wherever they choose to be. With this, people of different political backgrounds are been merged to achieve a common goal but different in political interests and beliefs most times bring about collision/clash of interest at the end. Thus, these causes political grieve and ultimately lead to violence among members. Violence in the political realm is also caused by members of different political parties before, during and after elections. Typical examples are the clashes that occurred between the member of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Rivers state during the electioneering process of 2015, and the recent clash between the APC and APM in Ogun state.

Severally, Nigeria youths are seen on the frontline of violence that occurs in political functions and I believe a critical question needs to be asked on “Why the youths are used as disruptive instruments in politics?"

Stay glued for the next series.

Politics / Calamity? It Befalls Not The Tribe That Speaks The Same Language by ankaurspeaks(m): 11:48am On Jan 28, 2019
Calamity?

It befalls not, the tribe that speaks the same language.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
This isn't about the inconsistency in the leadership style of governance but the sentimental attitudes of the citizens being governed. This isn't about the bastardise and callous way the minority has chosen to govern the majority but the high level of nonchalance to critical issues on the part of the later. Thus, it has ultimately empowered the minorities to deliberate, dictate and enforce self-custom laws that are selfishly motivated.

These are more reasons the system remain stagnant and not working as expected. More reasons the youths failed to live a fulfilled and purposeful life and more reasons they are the ones championing mayhems. All these are more reasons why the majority should rise to protect their terrains. They must begin to ask the right questions when they ought to and halt taking sides. Unfortunately, taking sides has only successfully placed these citizens on a path, a path where the majority are minority's prey.

Once again I will go with my favorite quote from Banky Wellington,

"When you find yourself in a lose-lose situation, you don't take sides, you change the situation".

Yes, you change it to avoid being exclave.

These can be avoided when the majority collectively demand answers to critical questions that bothers around educational development, youth and women development, economic growth, internal and external security challenges, and etcetera.

It can also be avoided when the majority quit favoritism and greediness, and elect or appoint into offices dedicated and trusted individuals who know their onions.

All these can only be achieved when the majority sees development as a collective responsibility and not the responsibility of a sectional minority.

A word is enough.

Education / Identifying A Career Path, A Critical Step To Success by ankaurspeaks(m): 12:08am On Jan 16, 2019
Identifying A Career Path, A critical Step To Success.

Nigeria Education System is not structured in its design to evoke one's innate career path. But as an Individual, you must be able to manipulate and navigate through the systems in such a way that you faction out career path from the chaotic system by searching for strengths and focusing on strengthening those areas through formal and informal education. Working it out with what aligns with your passion, It is your implied duty to receive learning outside the four walls of the school.

Not born with a golden or silver spoon, so, getting a formal education in this part of the world is a great challenge for individuals like me and some others. Government-owned schools like ours lack basic funding and tools to help us stay in line with those that attended private schools, talk more of engaging the outside world. Nonetheless, few of us strived to succeed by learning through thick and thin, we dare the roar of the Lion King to be among the bravest.

The first interview I had after my first degree paved way for me to be a better person. In 2014, I received a mail from IPI Solutions Nigeria Limited to appear for an interview. During the oral interview section, some typical questions about my field were asked by the panel but I failed to provide answers. When the CEO, Mr. Adamu Garba asked why I don't have basic practical knowledge about my field, I blamed the system. The CEO responded by asking, IS THAT AN EXCUSE? Then I said No. I knew it wasn't an excuse for me to lack practical knowledge as an engineering student. Yes, the system isn't fair to someone like me, but I'm obliged to be a better person in what I've chosen as a career.

Education is not only what we receive in school. That is where most of us get it wrong. Education is what artisans gives too, education is what surfing the internet in the right way gives too, education is what I am giving here, Education is what our parents dish out, education is the very air that we breathe in. But do you consider it like that? Do you see these lessons? Do you structure it to manifest positively and guide you towards a definitive purpose?

The school is not 100% but if you come out of it well, it gives you more than a certificate. To identify a career path is to make a conscious decision to extend the field of knowledge acquisition. It gradually narrows down your path through conscious learning and acquiring skills in a particular field.

If Career is an occupation undertaken for a large chunk of the period of a person's life, which is also referred to as profession, job, vocation, calling, employment etc...then we should know that sometimes we don't find careers, careers find us. But it depends on what you're doing. It's like saying whatever you're doing when you die is what God will count for you. Were you drinking? Were you smoking? And trust me it is usually whatever it is that you do most.

I started out as a wannabe blogger, writing and posting through a free website. I was encouraged by a friend to attend a writing class in other to perfect my writing skills. The writing class I had some months back was the foundation to who I am becoming today. It all started out from somewhere, there is no magic in being successful. You gain expertise in what you do most.

Simply ask yourself these questions as regards career...In school, what do you do most? In life what do you most? What do you enjoy doing? What are the things you are naturally attracted to? These questions are important so that at the confluence of your meeting with career, you'll be making the right decision.

Ultimately it is about taking what's valuable for you and organizing it in a way that aligns with what you identify as your purpose in life. Learning skills to strengthen you and working and walking in that direction is a step closer to succeeding in life.

My name is Oyewole Moshood (Ankaurspeaks), I'm passionate to help the youths shun negativity, embrace positivity and lead a meaningful life of impact and value.

Politics / Osun 2018: Senator Adeleke Charged For Examination Malpractice By The Police by ankaurspeaks(m): 9:24pm On Sep 19, 2018
The governorship candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ademola Adeleke has been asked to appear in the police headquarters, Abuja, for questioning over an allegation of examination malpractices and impersonation.

The authenticity of Senator Adeleke school leaving certificate and examination saga started back in July 2018, immediately after the PDP governorship primaries. Fellow PDP gubernatorial aspirant, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi earlier charged Senator Adeleke to court over the non-submission of his Secondary School leaving certificate.

Senator Adeleke was later charged to court by two members of the APC in Osun, challenging his candidacy on the grounds that he doesn't possess a WAEC certificate. In the court hearing on September 19, 2018, the West Africa Examination Council affirm that the senator sat for SSCE in the Apr/May 1981.

Some hours after the court hearing, the police public relation officer, DCP Jimoh Moshood again summoned the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming election in Osun state for impersonation and examination malpractice. The police PRO claimed that senator Adeleke and his brother sat for the internal NECO examination in 2017.

Meanwhile, the PDP has strongly condemned the action of the police, says the police department is playing a script of the APC.

Another unconfirmed report says president Muhammadu Buhari has stopped the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris from inviting senator Adeleke.

Politics / Saraki Warns Nigerians Against Voting Atiku And Other Presidential Aspirants Pro by ankaurspeaks(m): 2:22pm On Sep 18, 2018
The Senate President and presidential aspirant under the platform of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki has warned Nigerians against fellow aspirants promising to restructure Nigeria, if elected.

He said this during his state visit to Lagos PDP secretariat, to meet with stakeholders and members ahead of the party presidential primaries stated for October.

It can be recall that restructuring has been the main discourse among some stakeholders in the country, and presidential aspirants has equally made it top campaign promises.

Some weeks back, the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, who is also a presidential aspirant under the platform of the PDP, argued extensive with Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the incumbent vice president, on the urgent need for restructuring.

Meanwhile the senate president has called on Nigerians most importantly the electorates, to be wary of presidential aspirants promising to immediately restructure Nigeria, if elected.

He said: “Many aspirants will tell you that they will restructure Nigeria, but don’t let them deceive you because restructuring is not something only a president can do because certain laws also need to change.

“So you need a president that has political sagacity to carry people along. But there are very few aspirants today that possess such charisma. Once I assume office, I will devolve more powers to the state.’’

Politics / Our Political Retrogression, Our Legislative Flaws by ankaurspeaks(m): 9:30am On Sep 07, 2018
Lack of political ideology has deepened the political insanity in Nigeria. It’s so unfortunate that after nineteen years of successful democratic transmission from the military, Nigeria has hugely declined democratically due to greediness and selfishness of some of her citizens. Elected individuals were clouded with the fight for survival (to remain relevant in the political sphere), despite minimal or no contribution to the development of their constituencies, talk more of adding value to the nation at large. While majority of the electorates preferred to take bribe before casting votes.

Since the show of shame of 2014, the word "Defection" no longer sounds strange to Nigerians, just as laying siege on the National Assembly complex is a script that must be played after the later.

In November 2014, lot of defections occurred between the parliamentarians. The immediate past speaker of the house of representative and the incumbent Governor of Sokoto State, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal alongside Senator Bukola Saraki spearheaded the defection of legislators to the main opposition party. Days after the defections, the police barricaded the National Assembly Complex, denying the parliamentarians to exercise their constitutional duties. Although, the spokesperson of the Nigeria police said the imminent invasion by hoodlums and thugs led to the closure of the National Assembly complex.

The scene that caught the eyes of Nigerians and the media, both local and international, was when Rt. Hon Tambuwal was stopped by the police while trying to gain entrance to the complex. The refusal by the police to open the gate for the speaker made other members of the parliament, largely from the All Progressive congress, APC, to scale the fence, and forcefully open the gate for the speaker. In an unprecedented action since the return of democracy, the police operatives fired tear gas at the legislators that escorted the speaker after they had successfully breached the barricade. With all the threat by the police, the speaker and other legislators find their way to the main complex to commence the day proceedings. The speaker, who was not satisfied with the events that transpired, adjourns sitting till the next month.

In 2018, the later reoccurred. This time, Nigerians witness the biggest defection in the country democratic history. The incumbent senate president, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki dumps the ruling party alongside some legislators to join forces with the party they left four years ago. The former senate minority leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio who has spent his entire political career in the People's Democratic Party, PDP, move the other way. Coupled with another disgraceful act, the National Assembly again adjourns sittings for two months.

These acts from Nigeria's political weaklings parading as gladiators has clearly shown that they do not have the interest of the people at heart, the only word that kept lingering in their memories is SURVIVAL.

Before we begin to take sides, either we are for "Change" or "Change the change" let's have it in mind that 8.7 million uneducated children are roaming the street hopelessly everyday; more than 33 percent of Nigerian youth are either unemployed or underemployed, and which may likely rise. On daily basis, Nigerians are scared due to attacks because our security agencies are now fearsome instead of been fearless.

Most of these defectors can’t point to a successful completed project in their constituencies, absolutely none. Still, they hired amongst us “herd’s media men” to speak in their defence, no matter the atrocities they've committed. Take time to scan through the social media, you will see them in multiples.

Inasmuch as we blame the president for the hardship that has ravaged the country, don’t let us forget that our legislators has proven to be the weakest in recent years, so It won't be ideal if we keep voting for these set of individuals to represent us because they shared in the blame too. As for the electorates, let your conscience judge you for accepting bribe before voting, you shared the largest blame.

My fellow citizen, our woes has gone beyond bribe. Let's rise and speak against the shameful attitude of these legislators. Let's get our Permanent Voters Card ready, it is the only legitimate weapon we possess, to vote out the dishonored and none distinguished, and to elect those that will truly emancipate us.

Politics / Rotation Of Old Politicians Into Elective Positions. by ankaurspeaks(m): 2:51am On Sep 05, 2018
This is a cancer in virtually all the African countries; politicians in this continent have always rotated themselves in elective or selective positions. Do you know that the longest serving president in the world is the incumbent president of Cameroon - President Paul Biya? He has been at the helm of affairs in Cameroun for more than 42 years.

A Political Scientist and former Student Union President of Tai Solarin University of Education, Oyekanmi Abdullahi Plato, in one of his writings, gave insights on how to avert the rotation of older politicians. He writes, “Taking over power would not come with ease; the youth must be prepared to have generals ready because, it won’t go without blood of ideas and unprecedented courage. The youths do not need to be merely idealistic; they must be thoroughly breaded in ideological warfare of Marxism”.

Politics / President Buhari Decline Assent To Electoral (amendment) Bill 2018 by ankaurspeaks(m): 10:06am On Sep 04, 2018
For the second consecutive time, president Buharii declined assent to the amendment of the electoral bill. The bill was declined assent due to some unaddressed drafting issues noted in the same bill earlier forwarded to the president.

The senior special adviser to the president on National Assembly matters Senator (Dr) Ita Enang made this known in a press release duly signed by him.

Below is the full text in the press statement:

His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has by communication dated August 30, 2018, to the Senate and the House of Representatives declined Assent to the Electoral (Amendment) Bill, 2018.

I pray for leave, that in view of public interest, the fact of the National Assembly vacation, the imperative to avoid speculation and misinformation, that I give just a few of the rationale by Mr. President.

‘’Mr. President is‘’declining assent to the Electoral Amendment Bill due to some drafting issues that remain unaddressed following the prior revisions to the Bill.’’

Mr. President invites the Senate and House of Representatives to address these issues as quickly as possible so that he may grant President Assent to the Electoral Amendment Bill.

A few of the outstanding issues are:

‘’There is a cross referencing error in the proposed amendment to Section 18 of the Bill. The appropriate amendment is to substitute the existing sub-section (2) with the proposed subsection (1A), while the proposed sub-section (1B) is the new sub-section (2A)’’

‘’The proposed amendment to include a new Section 87 (14) which stipulates a specific period within which political party primaries are required to be held has the unintended consequence of leaving INEC with only 9 days to collate and compile lists of candidates and political parties as well manage the primaries of 91 political parties for the various elections. This is because the Electoral Amendment Bill does not amend sections 31, 34 and 85 which stipulates times for the submission of lists of candidates, publication of lists of candidates and notice of convention, congresses for nominating candidates for elections.’’

For clarity, may I provide some details of the provisions referenced.

Clause 87 (14) states

‘’The dates for the primaries shall not be earlier than 120 days and not later than 90 days before the date of elections to the offices.

The Electoral Act 2010 referred to herein states; in Section 31:

Section 31: ‘’That every Political Party shall not later than 60 days before the date appointed for a general election submit to the Commission the list of candidates the party proposes to sponsor at the elections.

Section 34:

‘’That the Commission shall at least 30 days before the day of the election publish a statement of the full names and addresses of all candidates standing nominated.

Section 85 (1)

“That a Political Party shall give the Commission at least Twenty-one days’ notice of any convention, congress etc., for electing members of its executive committees or nominating candidates for any of the elective offices.’’

For the avoidance of doubt, neither the Constitution nor any written law allows a President or a Governor to whom a Bill is forwarded by the Legislature to edit, correct, amend or in any manner alter the provisions of any such Bill to reflect appropriate intent before Assenting to same. He is to ASSENT in the manner it is or to withhold ASSENT.

Politics / Why Nigerian Politicians Don't Want Youths To Prosper In Politics | Ankaurspeaks by ankaurspeaks(m): 3:18am On Sep 04, 2018
I once spoke to a politician demanding for the need to empower his constituents economically; do you want to know what his response sounds like?

"Please, leave them the way they are. If everyone is empowered, then who would be loyal to us? If you empower these youths and women, you would lose their loyalty soon. As much as you keep buying them drinks whenever you are around, they would hail you and remain loyal to your mandate.

Wow! I heaved a sigh of bewilderment! Surprisingly, not quite long after he dropped the bombshell, one of the youths in his constituency came hailing him, ''my leader, your boy loyal o''. And his response to him was, '' are you sure? Okay go tell Madam Bleep to give you a bottle of beer. This is not fictional but a reality of what operates in ruling parties across board.

My initial intention was to actually discuss an empowerment initiative with this politician hoping that such would benefit his people, but my spirit was killed by this unpleasant experience. Taking a lead from a book he claimed to have read, this prominent politician (whom for reasons best known to me, I would not like to mention in this article) said '' do not empower your followers to stand lest they may not need you anymore and if they don't need you anymore, you have lost the ability to control their power of decision". May be this was part of the content read in the 48 Laws of power or other leadership books, but I was shocked by such expression of the political juggernaut.

Am sorry, this is the much I can write here.
