gentlegenius: Guy, I don't understand why you are wasting so much time to defend against this issue. Even if the stats the Op posted are wrong as you claimed, but you and I know the truth: Those countries don't take religion seriously as Nigerians do. Nigeria arguably has the highest number of Pastors and religious worship centers in the world. There are over 40000 churches in Lagos alone, I don't even mention mosques. Almost everyone who can't get good jobs in this difficult country are going into ministry as Pastors. There's a slight correlation between our country's lack of technological advancement and our over religious lifestyle. Those countries developed because they invested more in themselves by acquiring quality knowledge while we invest more in our religions. Those countries spent more time and money on research while we spent more time in our worship centers. Those countries invent luxurious cars and private jets but we spent our money to buy such cars and jets for our Pastors and religious leaders thereby boosting their income. Why won't they be richer than us? Why won't they advance and develop more than us? When they were busy generating ideas to build their countries, we were busy fighting religious wars and destroying our country. When they were listening to good seminars and learning how to invest their money, we were listening to prosperity messages from our Pastors and learning how to pay tithes and sow seeds. This country will never change until we change our mentality. But unfortunately, today's Pastors and religious leaders has brainwashed us to the point that we believe religion is the only way to progress. Thanks for this. Nigerians should seriously find out how many hours in a week the citizens of other countries spend on religious activities in churches, mosques, temples, shrines etc? www.nairaland.com/attachments/6283627_imge07931_jpege0a00b49091aea98e63408ecf129b9b6 |

Jacksonville: You think. The fact that they made it known to us was all part of God's plan to bring us liberation from eternal condemnation .. Imagine us still sacrificing animals for spiritual cleansing and all other fetish things.. The most important thing is the destiny of our souls. When we close our eyes for good in this realm, where would you find yourself. Don't you want to have an eternal bliss? Perhaps not, If you did, you'd care less of regional and racial differences and become a relativist at most... The KINGDOM is my heart desire.. I hope that you realise that was what the Jews were doing in the Old Testament - "sacrificing animals for spiritual cleansing and all other fetish things." The Muslims are still doing that today with the Ileya ram killing sacrifice plus the Hajj rites. www.nairaland.com/attachments/6391004_image_jpeg9f360c5ab7736510df54c882e9dbf188 |

Dohgon: Developed/Educated countries maybe leaving religion but beware!!! Look at China for instance. A child can get run over on the street and no one goes to help. They are like canibalistic zombies already. Religion has a purpose but unfortunately most humans only see its corrupting properties. Religion was an attempt to control human nature but unfortunately human understanding stopped and turned to (control and manipulation). The continuation of the process is to recognize that Humans are a part of a greater living entity which is Life. If you understand that then you will begin to understand that Spirit is separate from Life. Spirit controls your Mind while Life controls your Brain. When you fail to use your Mind you fall victim to the mechanisms of Life that manipulate the Hormones in your Brain. You become a Zombie Religion is different from spirituality. Jesus Christ explained this severally in the Four Gospels. www.nairaland.com/attachments/4160988_image_jpeg_jpeg6f95b5e7a24ad4fc0808d6698fd37362 |

Puffydon1: We the ph city dwellers should tell you better. No disrespect to the pleasure park though, but to me the pleasure park is over hype. That is just a Christmas light all shining over there. Go near em you go see one smelling gutter flowing along the park with maggots all on top Don't mind us stupid Africans with our low aspiration from our public servants. The same situation in Lagos state where Ambode is being celebrated by the dunces who pay him taxes, generate IGR for him and on whose behalf he collects monthly allocation from Abuja plus loans that their generations unborn will pay. How can anyone celebrate a governor for opening a park that was existing already at Alausa while schools are dilapidated and without adequate professional teachers recruited to reduce unemployment among youths. We truly deserve our public servants. Truly deserved. MathsChic: Some days ago, I was at a secondary school in Surulere (across the bridge from the Island) in Lagos for a friend's event where he is educating secondary students about the perils of peer pressure. I honestly wasn't expecting what I saw as the state of this secondary school. It left me wondering if this was a school or a dump yard. Why in heaven's name are Nigerian leaders looking the other way while the young ones study in this sorry environment?
The attached pictures are what I saw. This is no secondary school. It's a hopeless shanty. I hope this gets to front page and attracts the necessary attention.

Tellemall: Don't bring up the "Africans are so backward" talk. Do you know what happened in America when they requested to see the books of all the churches in the same manner you wish "Africans" could? Do some research and stop feeling that you as an African are in a backward country because you think the rest of the world runs on golden wheels. Indeed you are correct. See as Americans are praying and fasting for breakthrough visas and hustling their way to come to Africa. Just tell us that you were joking. liljboy: It’s okay to marry a woman old enough to be your mother, you can still explain that as love, but someone old enough to be your grandmother?

The Libyan Red Crescent posted photos of dozens of bodies in black and white bags lined up along the shore near the western city of Zawiya. A spokesman for the aid organisation said there were still bodies floating out at sea as the agency had no way of retrieving them. He said the migrants were all adults, mostly from sub-Saharan African countries, and all but three were men. The UN migration agency, the International Organisation of Migration (IOM), said the dinghy had set off on Saturday with 110 people on board. The agency said traffickers deliberately took the engines from the boat and then abandoned it to drift.

The co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls, BBOG, group, Aisha Yesufu, has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter to the Senate on why he cannot sack and prosecute indicted Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal.
Recall that Babachir had been alleged to have diverted money meant to fight humanitarian crisis in the North East, and the senate had called for his arrest and prosecution.
But Buhari, on Monday had explained why he cannot honour the senate’s report calling for Lawal’s arrest, prosecution and sack.
In her reaction, Yesufu called out the President, saying the reason for his defense was because he was corrupt.
In a series of tweets on her Twitter handle@AishaYesufu , she called on Buhari to resign.
She tweeted: “Does the President need the senate to even sack d SGF? You must not only talk tough. You must act it.
“It’s surprisingly amazing. President Buhari that was using sachet of milk and beverage now carrying teapot in London. Wahala dey.
“I will rather die imprisoned for saying the truth than become Defender of the Corrupt like President Buhari.
“Democracy is not fraud. The win for me was that we changed a sitting government and we would again Insha Alla.
“If Pres Buhari @MBuhari has any shred of honour, character & integrity he should RESIGN. Enough of the damage that might last a generation.
“If President Buhari can clear someone that stole 200m from vulnerable IDPs in this type of recession, then imagine what he would have done in abundance.
“Either Babachir looted on behalf of Buhari or President Buhari has looted more and Babachir has evidence or PMB is going senile.
“In Nigeria when one is poor one is faceless, nameless and voiceless. President Buhari whom the poor supported massively just reaffirmed it.
“Rich Nigerians must get fair hearing. The rest can be lynched for whatever reason on the streets. Whatever you do, don’t be poor in Nigeria.
“In Nigeria it seems stealing is not crime. It’s stealing small amount or stealing while you are poor or with no connection that’s the crime.
“Rich Nigerians must get fair hearing. The rest can be lynched for whatever reason on the streets. Whatever you do, don’t be poor in Nigeria.
“And I would give up on it if you actually stood up for him.” https://i1.wp.com/icirnigeria.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Why-I-Didnt-Sack-SGF-%E2%80%93-Buhari.jpg |

Femi Makinde, Osogbo
The Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has said he deserves commendation for building the Moshood Abiola International Airport at Ido-Osun, Osun State, for N11.5bn.
A consultant to the state government on information, Mr. Sunday Akere, who spoke on behalf of the governor, said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Tuesday.
He said the contract was not inflated to siphon the state’s resources as alleged by the Peoples Democratic Party. He said the increase in the contract sum was necessitated by the inflation caused by the fall of the naira.
Akere said, “The PDP in Osun should be ignored, they are just seeking relevance. They should find out how much PDP states like Akwa Ibom, Gombe and others built their airports.
“When former President Goodluck Jonathan was in power, he said he added an additional airstrip to the Nnamdi Azikiwi International Airport, Abuja with N36bn. We should be commended for building an airport with N11.5bn.
“If we are building a complete airport with a hanger and other facilities for N11.5bn, then we should be commended. The governor deserves commendation.”
Akere also said the initial cost of the airport was underestimated.
But the PDP accused the governor of increasing unilaterally the contract sum of the airport from N4.5bn to N15.5bn.
The Director of Media and Strategy of the Osun PDP, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, said this in a statement on Sunday.
The statement read, “We are aware that Governor Rauf Aregbesola, on January 8, 2016 through a letter with reference number SP/S96/1/vi/348 re-awarded the airport contract to the same contractor and a payment of N472m was paid as take-off sum.
“The same company had earlier been paid N2.7bn for the same project without any serious work done on the project.
The PDP also accused the governor of inflating the contract sum in order to embezzle the bailout funds it got from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The opposition party lamented that workers in the employ of the state were languishing in hunger as a result of unpaid salaries.
The party had said, “We are calling on the President and anti-graft agencies to send a secret team to the site of the so-called Moshood Abiola International Airport, Ido-Osun, to confirm what the government and the airport company had done with the N2.7bn taken from the purse of the state on December 14, 2012.
“Out of the amount, N2.5bn was sourced as a loan from a bank to be repaid monthly at N100m from the SURE-P funds. That loan is now part of the N88bn restructured for the state by the Central Bank for repayment till the year 2034 .”

mpowa: And who told you I don't love my neighbor? I give to the needy around me every now and then, But I give to the Kingdom much more because I'm part of it, and we as a Church give to our environment. You cannot give to God/Kingdom except you give to the needy as Jesus Christ stated below: Matthew 25
The Judgment of the Nations 31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' 37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' 40 "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.' 41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' 44 "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' 45 "He will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' 46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

That fact is because people from different places make business in Lagos state. If they make their business elsewhere, then the money in Lagos will be redistributed in those places.
