chronique: Don't know where youguys gotthis silly picture from but stop peddling lies. Exchange rate under GEJ was an average of 150-160 and it only rose to 200 due to the panic and tension the 2015 elections brought. This was because foreign investors rushed to pull out funds from the country and this affected every sector. Nigerians also rushed to buy forex to relocate themselves out of the country. Simply put: the tension the 2015 elections brought, had a negative impact on the economy and this in turn, impacted on the value of the naira, foreign reserves and all that. Thanks, bro, for breaking it down to the economic neophytes forming gurus. No wonder they called an "expired" mallam who has no record of business performance or economic growth in all his four decades in public office as their "only saviour" ? Who does that except brain-dead zombies that they are The same panic due to senseless utterances of the confused DullardPoo caused fuel scarcity at the tail end of Jonathan's transformation federal administration. www.nairaland.com/attachments/3075523_bubu_jpeg548c6e11ce99a7bdf3febf4edabed9eawww.nairaland.com/attachments/2589504_subsidy2_jpeg57ea79bc1f8758353f00f8db1d53dbf1www.nairaland.com/attachments/3075524_bubu1_jpeg88275f10f2430d13576e18436b244ea1 |

StOla: We are suffering for the waste and gluttony of the past administration.
The only administration that could not increase the foreign reserve despite selling crude at very high prices, instead it depleted what the OBJ regime saved despite lower oil prices then.
If OBJ could increase the reserves from $3Billion+ to $45Billion and still pay a Paris club debt of $18Billion with an oil price ranging from $16pb to $60pb in his 8 year administration from 1999 to 2007, what exactly is Jonathan's excuse for not building on that especially when crude sold for about $100pb in 4years out of his 5years administration?
Yar'Adua built on the $45Billion inherited from OBJ and took it to $47Billion in less than 3years, while still spending about $16Billion to cushion the effect of the 2008/2009 global financial meltdown.
That Jonathan's regime left only $29Billion in the country's reserves without any tangible infrastructure, should be considered a treasonous offence.
What was the money spent on? The PDP envelope of dollars? Why do zombies tell LIES so easily and repeatedly? Do they think that their fellow citizens are all brain-dead like themselves Ask the JagbaJantis of Bourdillon and the 36 state governors -what was the money spent on. Okay? FG, States, LGs Share N568.4 Billion for Oct 15 NOVEMBER 2013

Also, $1billion was proposed for distribution to complement shortfall in expected revenue." The $1billion is a compromise by the FG over its words in September not to augment shortfalls anymore.
Responding to the presentation, the chairman of the States Commissioners of Finance and Ebonyi State Commissioner of Finance, Mr Timothy Odaah, lamented that the statutory allocation was getting smaller and smaller. "It appears this is the worst in terms of returns. This is the least in allocations as far as this year is concerned. We are mourning the dearth of funds and this is a wakeup call for states and local governments to buoy up their internally generated revenue."
While appreciating the "magnanimity" of President Goodluck Jonathan to approve the $1billion from the excess crude account and to be shared among the federal, state and local governments, Odaah expressed disappointment with the returns made by the NNPC.
He said that the states had requested for $2bn to complement for the shortfall in revenue but got only $1billion. In September, Odaah and fellow commissioners had walked out of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) when the federal government said that the framework of the 2013 budget was no longer realistic and it won't augment shortfall in revenue. Odaah raised issues with the statutory allocations of previous months.

https://www.osundefender.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/TINUBU.jpg
The Lagos State Governor, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday joined issues with the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CB N) over the recent face-off between the different tiers of government on the excess crude oil sales reserve account of US$ 1. 8 billion which is about N198 billion.
Expressing concern at the impression being created that the economy is rudderless, Tinubu argued that the central issue transcends the release or non-release of the fund into the Federation Account.
In his words: “The fundamental issues and principles at stake go much deeper. They are more broadly about the rule of law and the supremacy of the constitution on one hand, and the need for cooperation and coordination in a true federal structure, as a basis for sustaining and strengthening our fledgling democracy on the other hand”.
Governor Tinubu disagreed with the CBN's position that release of the excess crude reserves to the states and local governments, though legitimate, would lead to inflation; cause a rundown of the nation's foreign reserves; weaken the exchange rate further and run counter to agreements reached with the IMF.
The Governor contended that "in a period of excess capacity and low purchasing power, there should not be undue inflationary pressures from an injection of funds into the economy. Instead, such a development should be beneficial to economic activity and growth, despite the fact that there are supply rigidities and inefficiencies which would limit the potential benefits”.
On the purported likely impact on foreign reserves, Tinubu argued that "in an import-dependent economy such as ours, it is inevitable that an upturn in the level of economic activity would engender a fall in foreign reserves. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Rather, it would be immoral to appear to be building up high foreign reserves in the midst of grinding poverty”.
He stressed further that if the N198 billion released is matched by an equivalent US$1.8 billion, there should not be a fall in the value of the Naira as the supply of dollars would be in place to match any increased demand”.
Tinubu also said it would be unfair for the federal government to agree unilaterally to commit revenues due to other tiers of government, to an agreement with the IMF or anyone else.
Attributing inflationary pressures in the economy largely to the federal government's overspending and printing of money to finance such expenditure, Tinubu said "It is hardly fair for the FGN to overspend and then seek to correct the inflationary effect on the economy by starving other tiers of government of their rightful funds”.
Stressing that there is no basis for CBN or any authority to flout the constitution and deny states and local governments their own share of the Federation Account, Tinubu noted that "the excess crude reserve account is itself an illegality, carried over from the military era, as there is no provision in the law or the constitution for federally - collected revenues to be diverted to such an account”.
Advocating constructive dialogue on the management of the economy Governor Tinubu said "it is time for us to sit down and dialogue about how to move from where we are now, to where we need to get to, while respecting true federalism in fiscal and other matters”.

https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Minister-of-Trade-and-Investment-Mr-Olusegun-Aganga-360x225.jpg
From November, Nigerians will be able to purchase brand new cars assembled in the country without having to pay in full for them as the Federal Government’s vehicle acquisition finance scheme would have taken off then.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, made the announcement at a press conference in Lagos on Thursday.
According to the minister, the Federal Government is currently discussing with local and international financial institutions on how to make the scheme achieve the aim of making made in Nigeria cars affordable.
Though the details are still being worked out, our correspondent gathered that the government was encouraging the partner banks to make available loans for vehicle acquisition at not more than 10 per cent interest rate repayable over four years.
Aganga said, “The government is working on an affordable vehicle acquisition scheme, which will be launched in four months’ time. We are looking at an affordable interest rate of not more than 10 per cent against the current interest rate regime in the banks, which is over 20 per cent.
“We are currently engaging local and international financial institutions to provide the funds. People should be able to pay over four years at 10 per cent. We are still discussing; we have not yet finalised the details.”
However, the minister ruled out the option of the government providing the seed fund for the scheme, explaining that the banks would rather fund it, but that the government was working with them to reduce the interest rate payable on the vehicle acquisition loans.
The attraction for the banks, according to him, is that the scheme will represent a commercial opportunity for them, as many Nigerians will be able to buy brand new vehicles assembled in the country, with the multiplier effect of more citizens being employed by the assembly plants.
Aganga gave an assurance that the local vehicle manufacturers and assemblers had enough capacity to meet the expected upsurge in demand for new cars and would not increase the prices of their products.
According to him, the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Policy will create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities by ensuring the revival of moribund vehicle assembly plants in the country and will raise the standard of living of the citizens.

... To outer space. Mogidi: He delivered good governance hence his protégé was unsuccessful in his bid to become governor. Amaechi is high on grade 1 Buhari urine.
https://www.monorails.org/webpix%203/cnstRivers02.jpg ijekul: As the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the Rivers State Government to probe the sale of valued assets of the state and other matters continued its sitting on Friday, the technical consultant to the state on the monorail project, Arcus Gibbs revealed that he advised former Governor Chibuike Amaechi against continuing with the project.
Managing Director of Arcus Gibbs Nig Ltd, Wiero Viguezang, however said his company gave the advice only after collecting N22.9bn from the Rivers State Government since its services were enlisted in March 1, 2010.
Viguezang spoke when he appeared before the commission to explain the role played by his company in the monorail project being probed by the commission.
While being cross-examined by counsel to the commission, Dr. Zaccheus Adangor, Viguezang, stated that the monorail project was no longer tenable considering the shortfall in the state’s revenue and the inability of its original technical and equity partners, TSI Nig Ltd, headed by the former military administrator of Rivers State, Brig-Gen Anthony Ukpo (Rtd.), to fulfil its obligations to contribute 80 per cent of its equity holdings.
He disclosed that the state owes his company N1.1bn for its services. He also said the company had in a letter to the Rivers State through the ministry of transport, in April, made a six-point recommendation to the Rivers State on how to unbundle the monorail project in such a way that the state government can salvage some financial benefits out of the N33.9bn so far invested in the project. The monorail project was originally estimated to cost about Euros2250m.
The technical partner had in its sixth point of recommendation suggested to the Rivers State Government to unbundle the monorail project and approach the manufacturers of the mechanical components and rail tracks in Germany and exploit the possibility of reselling components at a lower price to the manufacturers.
He said the company also advised the state government to consider the option of using the monorail facilities for other commercially viable purposes, mentioning the spaces between pillars and surrounding areas of the monorail project, stressing that the area between Azikiwe Road and the UTC axis could be put into very fruitful commercial purpose. Viguezang also told the commission that his company and the state government had planned to unveil the monorail project last April specifically to mislead the people of Rivers State into thinking that the project, which has gulped N33.9bn, was still on course.
He admitted that his company wrote a memo to the commissioner for transport to arrange the unveiling of the project essentially for media coverage since the project was “technically uncompleted”.
According to Viguezang, “We actually wrote to the ministry of transport in January, to arrange for the governor to unveil the monorail project in April for the attention and coverage of the media based on the expectation of the people of the state.”
When asked to clarify if the unveiling was to deceive the people of Rivers State into believing that the controversial monorail project was ready, Viguezang admitted; “It was to deceive the people into believing that the monorail project was at last ready”.
The managing director, however, stressed that “apart from the media coverage and public attention that it is expected to generate, the monorail was not technically and commercially ready. Only phase 1a within phase 1 of the project was ready. So, there was no way the public would have been able to use the monorail as at April when we asked the ministry of transport to unveil the project to the media”.
Viguezang admitted that the Rivers State government enlisted services of Arcus Gibbs at the cost of N600 million from March 1, 2010 to December 1, 2010, after the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with TSI collapsed because TSI could not raise revenue to fulfil the payment of its 80 per cent equity share capital.
He stated that part of its role as the technical service provider to the Rivers State government concerning the monorail project was to evaluate and assess the activities of TSI and give an independent opinion to the Rivers State government.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major - General Tanmi Dibi, said his men were on regular patrol across the state. He said the Army at the weekend began its routine "show of force", which is an exercise embarked on whenever there is election. He debunked the allegation that soldiers laid siege to Tinubu's residence, arguing that Governor Fashola was aware of the ongoing patrol across the state. He said: "How can anyone accuse the army of laying a siege to Bourdillon or Asiwaju Tinubu's place? That is most untrue. Soldiers attached to the security outfit Operation MESA and other task forces have been on general patrol across the state."The entire Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki are being patrolled. Even on the Mainland, my men have been patrolling. They have been keeping awake while the masses are asleep to ensure that we continue to enjoy the peace and security we have in Lagos. "Even the governor is aware of these patrols or is he now saying he does not like the efforts being made by security agencies in the state? Is he saying they don't like the peace and security we have been working hard to sustain? For three consecutive days, helmet-wearing and battle-ready soldiers have kept surveillance at the Ikoyi home of Bola Tinubu, a leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, a statement from the politician's media office claimed Tuesday. Mr. Tinubu is also a former governor of Lagos State. According to the statement issued by Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser on Media to Mr. Tinubu, soldiers numbering up to 30, riding in three patrol vans and army trucks, and stationed close to the entrance of Mr. Tinubu's home, had become a permanent feature. The statement said Mr. Tinubu was the target of the patrolling soldiers. "The soldiers were first noticed on Sunday a few minutes to 11 p.m. in an army truck. They stationed about 500 meters away from Tinubu's gate," said the statement. "Later they moved close to his gate as if making efforts to enter. The stern-looking soldiers were around for hours on Sunday and returned on Monday to continue their surveillance. "Monday night about 10.45 p.m., they returned to the residence in two army vans and were there throughout the night. Some of the soldiers discharged from the van and walked back and forth in front of the house and around the house in what is clearly some casing effort. "This morning, Tuesday, two vans from the army were stationed on both sides of the house along Bourdillon road their missions shrouded in secrecy. There were no signs of security forces when PREMIUM TIMES visited Mr. Tinubu's home Tuesday evening, save for an empty van belonging to the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, parked outside the compound. An unarmed police officer sat at the gate, while the evening breeze rocked gently giant posters of Mr. Tinubu and that of his wife, Oluremi (who is seeking a second term at the Senate), stationed outside the fence.
PREMIUM TIMES kept watch outside Mr. Tinubu's Bourdillon, Ikoyi, home between 5.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m. on Tuesday. A bus filled with what looked like party supporters was parked outside the gate. A man seen outside Mr. Tinubu's home however said he saw "just two army officers" earlier Tuesday and not a truck filled with soldiers. He said the two personnel later left. At the road median outside Mr. Tinubu's home, campaign posters of President Jonathan were hung on lamp holders. Vehicular traffic along Bourdillon Road flowed freely.

Dollarization Of The APC Primaries: How Amaehi Vanquished Atiku #saibuhari
The blogosphere was inundated with reports of the excessive sharing of dollars at the All Progressives Congress which took place during the latter part of last week.
One APC supporter and Special Adviser to Osun Governor on Environment, BolaIlori had blown the scandal open after he saw the beginning stages of the dollarization in action.
He took to his Facebook page and scribbled, “Crazy things are happening here!!! Some of these cannot represent the change Nigeria is yearning for. Excessive dollarization by one of the aspirants to is to say the least obscene. I have been involved in political process for decades now, I have never witnessed this volume of raw dollarization of party primaries. I only read about this kind of things in PDP primaries. A question been asked by conscientious delegates is that whoever can be giving out between $2000 to $5000 to…delegates certainly does not represent the kind of change Nigerians want…those who contributed to the pauperization of Nigeria now revel in dollarization… majority of Ondo delegates are still standing with Buhari but have been reduced from 85% to 70% within 24 hours…the remaining has gone with dollars ooo.!!!!!”
One has to wonder how Buhari was able to win the primaries in this era of stomach infrastructure where dollars are like the Biblical manna that God sent down from heaven to nourish the Israelites as they made their way to the promised land.
Sources close to the APC with knowledge of the way the Primaries unfolded have revealed that it was Rivers State Governor, Amaechi who flew back to Rivers State and returned to Lagos on Thursday morning with enough dollars to make Benjamin Franklin blush.
It has been revealed that Atiku offered the delegates $5000 each, but Amaechi doubled it to $10000 a pop. Thus turning the tables in favour of General Buhari.
Since his adventure into the APC, Amaechi has gone out of his way to prove himself a party loyalist, always the first to shoki or azonto at the many events the APC holds, which he himself is usually the chief sponsor.
According to party insiders, Amaechi has overtaken Tinubu as the major financier of the party. One does not need to wonder why he is always at President Jonathan’s throat over misappropriated oil wells or other such business. Anything that diminishes from the State’s coffers will have a ripple effect on his funding budget for the APC.

Why ban their business of cattle rearing when they have no other means? Why criminalize the fulanis as if all fulanis are killers? There are bad eggs amongst every tribe, why do we make it look like violence is exclusive to northerners only. The people we should frown at are cattle rustlers who steals cattle from fulanis and use them as disguise for their evil deeds. The fulanis are peaceful people who go about their business in peace and we all know they control their herds of cattle with mere sticks. Even though we call them primitive, how many southerner can rear cattle for national consumption like the fulanis? Without them how do we see beef to consume? The rustlers are armed terrorist escaping from the north east to the south. What fayose should have done is to forbid any herdsmen from moving around with weapons, not banning cattle rearing completely. If all states cooperated with the FG on creation of grazing reserves throughout the country, there will not be a single cattle left on the streets looking for grass. Instead we chastised president Buhari's brilliant policy in the name of islamization. The ripple effects are the incessant attacks by the rustlers. The grazing bill remains the best and safest option. Not unnecessary bans Did he ban grazing or he said they must PAY for grazing just the same way we pay them for the meat from their cows, not so Why are we so lawless people? Why should you and others encourage cows to roam in cities anyhow and destroy people's farms without compensation? Rather than compensate the farmers they even kill them and our president says NOTHING? |
