lalasticlala: Insecurity: Recruit 50 million youths into army, Tinubu urges FG
All Progressives Congress chieftain, Bola Tinubu, on Monday, urged the Federal Government to recruit at least 50 million youths into the Nigerian Army to boost Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, banditry and all forms of internal and external security threats confronting the nation.
Tinubu spoke at the 12th colloquium to celebrate his 69th birthday in Kano State.
He said, “We are under-policed and we are competing with armed robbers and bandits to recruit from the youths who are unemployed —33 per cent unemployed?”
“Recruit 50 million youths into the army,” he stated, adding that “what they will eat —cassava, corn, yam, will grow here.”
The APC chieftain, while reacting to recent statistics by the National Bureau of Statistics that over 23 million Nigerians are jobless, also urged the government to create jobs for youths in the agricultural value chains.
He said, “Don’t talk about illiteracy, anybody who can hold a gun, who can handle a gun, who can rooster and shoot is technically competent to repair a tractor in the farm.”
Fahdiga: It is hard to see a reasonable Femi. Very soon this particular one will kiss power goodbye
I can't imagine anyone being more unreasonable than this supposed pastor Femi. How could he suggest we give up our ancestral land to avoid being killed by El Rufai's illegal immigrant Fulani herdsmen. Can it be too much free food in Asshole Rock that changed his brain?
awakeupcall4all: The Presidency, yesterday, charged those against the administration’s ranching and colony programmes for herdsmen to rethink, noting that they are better off living with the ranches and colonies than dying through the persisting conflicts.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina, speaking on an AIT morning programme in response to a question on ancestral attachments to land said: “Ancestral attachment? You can only have ancestral attachment when you are alive.
If you are talking about ancestral attachment, if you are dead, how does the attachment matter? The exhortation from the Presidency came on a day Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, said that history would be harsh on the present administration if it failed to stop the mass killing of innocent Nigerians.
okeyumez: Go to Kano and see good roads with 5 - 6 lanes on each side built with solid martials. Traveling from Lekki phase 1 to ibeju lekki is just 2 lanes. No connecting bridges. Sands have taken over many portions of the road. The roads are narrow, pot holes everywhere. From sangotedo to Ajah bridge is like passing through hell fire. Too much traffic due to bad roads and heavy trucks. Ajah is just a name. Inner roads are worse. No good water and no alternative routes to V.I These road look substandard. Lagos do not construct quality roads. The only good road in Lagos is the one constructed by Dangote from Oworonshoki to Apapa road. I do not know why the present government in Lagos find it difficult to demolish some structures and expand their roads. Akowonjo road is too narrow due to illegal structures from vulcanizer bus stop to egbeda. Ikotun and shasha road are worse than all roads in Central African Republic and Somalia. Most times i wonder what the LASG does with the money they generate through IGR
Does Lagos also have more area boys than the almajiris in Kano? What is the essence of competing for roads when the children are not educated, thereby being potential terrorists and thieves in future? Na which kind sense be that

The lack of state-owned pipe-borne water in the homes of Lagos residents has continued to be a source of concern, a non-profit group, Corporate Accountability and Public Advocacy Africa (CAPPA) has said.
At a press event to mark this year’s World Water Day, the group said its monitoring team’s visit to state-owned waterworks showed that most of them are not operational.
The group said the waterworks it visited include the ones at Maryland, Mushin, Ikorodu, Obalende, Agbowa, Onikan, Ikoyi, and Amuwo Odofin.
Only the one in Ikoyi is producing water, according to CAPPA.
Potable water still luxury 23 years after return of democracy
WHILE the Federal Government continues to proliferate the country with dams, it is such an irony that a state like Lagos, with its massive, constant boast of being a megacity, cannot provide its residents, thereby forcing the bulk of them to take solace in the arms of water boreholes.
At regular intervals, the two major waterworks in the state, the Adiyan, and Iju get grounded leading to the non-availability of water. In April and May last year, for instance, they both produce less than 10% of their installed capacity.
As of today, Eti-Osa, Apapa, Victoria Island, Badagry, Ibeju Lekki, Surulere, Ikorodu, Agege, Ojo, Mushin Kosofe, and most locations in the state are without access to clean water. Consequently, millions of residents now rely on boreholes, rivers, rainwater, as well as comprised wells for their water needs.
On its website, the LWC claims that it has a total installed water production capacity of 210 million gallons per day (MGD), which is far lower than the current estimated daily water demand of 540 million gallons per day.
Also, its plan to produce 745 million gallons per day by the year 2020 through the Lagos Water Supply Master Plan fell flat with the actual number of citizens having access to potable water dropping, rather than increasing 11 years after the launch of the master plan.
A senior staff of LWC, who preferred anonymity said that at present, its agency only supplies water to Lekki, parts of Ikoyi, Victoria Island (VI), Ojodu, Iju, and some parts of Ikotun.

Master stroke of thieves? Or what did Kwankwaso do with all the money of Kano people apart from siphoning it and looting like a loony Starboy Kwankwaso who left Kano almajiris begging but spent billions in Niger Republic for phantom schools.
elbinmanny: Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State has disclosed the intention of his administration to build an exclusively female bilingual college in Niger Republic.
Last year, Governor Kwankwaso spent over N1 billion on the building of the Kano-Niger Republic Bilingual College in Niamey.
Kwankwaso said the gesture was part of efforts of his administration to consolidate bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Niger Republic.

itubaba001: Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria, has been ranking as one of the worst places to live in the world for the nine straight years, a BusinessDay analysis shows.
Data from the 2019 Global Liveability Index published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the world’s leader in global business intelligence, shows the city has been within the range of 137th-139th position out of a total of 140 cities in the world from year 2011-2019. Last year, Nigeria overtook India as the country with the largest number of people living in extreme poverty, thereby becoming the world capital of poverty, according to the Brookings Institute. This year, the number has risen to 91.6 million from 87 million in June 2018. Every minute, six Nigerians enter the group of extremely poor people, according to the World Poverty Clock.
Batam: I thought you be Igbo, you no dey support Obi ni? You prefer a fulani to ya brother.
Firstly I am not Igbo. Secondly, I am Yoruba but since some years ago no longer into tribesmen politics hence my support for Atiku over and above Tinubu.
Even in governance Atiku beats Tinubu hands down with the successful deregulation of the telecoms sector that has provided millions of direct & indirect jobs, related business opportunities as well as his priority for education as a private sector operator having worked with Obasanjo for UBE law. The only area that Tinubu is a heavyweight to Atiku is in stealing the people's commonwealth.

ivandragon: There was heated exchange between Nigeria’s communication minister, Adebayo Shittu, and a presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, on a public affairs radio programme in Ibadan on Saturday.
Mr Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, was in Ibadan in continuation of his campaign efforts. He arrived Lagos from the UK earlier in the week.
The programme, monitored by PREMIUM TIMES’ correspondent, held on Fresh FM, Ibadan, owned by foremost broadcaster and musician, Yinka Ayefele. The interview had barely kicked off when the debate became heated.
“Minister, it is great to see you. This is the minister of an outgoing regime; the Buhari regime will be kicked off power by 2019,” Mr Sowore said shortly after the programme began.
He had barely concluded his introductory statement when Mr Shittu fired back, saying the Sahara Reporters’ publisher is a dreamer.
“By your wish or by God’s wish? You are just dreaming. You are a day dreamer” he said in response to Mr Sowore’s claim to which the presidential hopeful replied saying, “By the wish of the people of Nigeria, Sir. It is not a dream. It is the realisation you’d wake up to on February 15.”
Mr Shittu retorted: “Sowore, what’s your electoral worth? Whether in your Ife (sic), home or any part of this country.” Mr Sowore replied: “My electoral worth brought you to power in 2015. Nobody even heard about many of you in 2014.”
The minister thereafter said the Sahara Reporters publisher didn’t know about him because he was inconsequential in politics. “You are inconsequential…” he said. In defence, Mr Sowore said he was consequential because Mr Shittu and others came to power by the efforts of young Nigerians like him.
He said, “I am consequential because you came to power on my back, on our back… on the back of young people who invested a lot of hope.”
In response, the minister described the publisher as a mere noise-maker. “What did you invest? Did you invest more than me, No? I will not sit here and allow someone make noise…You are just a noisemaker. You are just a noisemaker.”
YourRealFather: Ifeanyi Okowa is the best choice for pdp
Very much so. He seems to be a very strategic politician who has worked to displace Ibori as the Delta landlord going by the outcome of the PDP primaries there. Peter Obi lost it when he hurriedly left PDP instead of stepping down at the primaries for Atiku. Hopefully he can still retrace his steps back and get the SGF or ministerial post.

msmon: The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday unfolded its power agenda should it presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, be elected.
The party plans to generate at least 20,000 megawatts (mw) of electricity in four years to surpass Nigeria’s consumption level of around 15, 000mw.
In a statement, the party’s Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCPCO) expressed dismay that the Federal Government under President Goodluck Jonathan had only added 1.400mw to the national grid in four years.
The statement by Mallam Garba Shehu, the spokesman of the campaign, quoted Gen. Buhari as saying that while he will not run a witch hunt government, he will not hesitate to deal decisively with cases of impunity and corruption. No probe of any government official, he added.

Meanwhile the useless Jagbajantis Lagos landlord is singing Emilokan (it's my turn) because he packaged the Bubu BS as chocolate for us in 2015. What kind of empty barrel entitlement sense is that Where is that Fashola sef? He has stopped being loquacious as his incompetence has been exposed on the federal level.
pendy79: Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Sunday evening boasted that he could provide uninterrupted power supply to Lagos residents between six and eight months.
Fashola spoke at the commissioning of 8.5 megawatts Lekki Independent Power Project (IPP), the fifth of such power projects in the last five years in the state.
The governor said the addition of the Lekki IPP was a testament to the fact that stable power does not require rocket science to achieve in the country.
While challenging power distribution companies in the state, Fashola said, “Let the Eko DISCOs sign a contract with me, giving part of their concessioning to the state government, in about six to eight months, there will be power in all homes in Lagos State,” Fashola said.
He added, “So, let no one say that he has no money to deliver power for the entire country. This is the limit to which the law allows us to do, but we have done this to make a statement that power can be generated. So, when they come with lies that power is impossible, you can tell them that we have power here; we make it possible”.
The project, courtesy of the state government, in partnership with Heritage Bank, is to serve Lagos State Water Corporations in Lekki Phase 1, Oniru, Victoria Island and Ikoyi, as well as over 25km of public lightening in the Lekki axis.
Commissioning the project, Fashola said he felt fulfilled with the conduct of youths that delivered the project, despite the difficulties in getting to the finishing point.
He said it also showed that the money to improve the Nigerian economy is here, “since we don’t need the World Bank to come and do this for us.”
Also, General Manager, Lagos State Electricity Board, Damilola Ogunbiyi, said the state had shown that reliable and sustainable power projects are possible through the youths.
Ogunbiyi said though it had been a successful story, the state was just scratching the surface in its “aggressive development plan” in the area of power.
Promoter of the project, Faruk Agoro noted that the new IPP was an innovative idea of world-class natural gas-fired power generating facility, sold to the government by youths and it was bought into, to support government institutions, especially in the area of water supply and security.
The Lekki IPP is 8.5 megawatts, with the capacity for 30 megawatts.
This brings the Lagos IPPS to a total of 47 megawatts of electricity in total, powering several public institutions around the state.
The generated megawatts is however still a far cry from the over 10, 000 megawatts power deficit in the state.
On his part, the State Commissioner in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Taofeek Tijani, said the new addition was about continuity in public infrastructure programme of the state government
Was that how he collaborated with Thiefnuibu to steal Lagosiains commonwealth through the Alpha Beta consultancy for tax collection Awon ole barawo gbogbo jatijati.
SalamRushdie: money laundering Dapo Apara, a Nigerian chartered accountant, has accused a former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu; a consulting firm, Alpha-beta, and a former commissioner in the state, Akin Doherty, of money laundering, fraud, tax evasion, and sundry corrupt practices.
Mr Apara, in writ of summons deposed to at a Lagos high court, claimed that Mr Tinubu and Alpha-beta reneged on certain agreements reached in the past about the management and control of the consulting firm.
Alpha-beta is a consulting firm handling the computation, tracking and reconciliation of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in Lagos State in return for a commission.
Mr Apara, who claims to own 30 per cent stake in the company, alleged that Mr Tinubu “has directed and dictated the affairs” of the company by diverting assets to himself at the detriment of the claimant (Mr Apara).
Mr Apara claimed that apart from owning 30 per cent stake in the company, other stakeholders are Michael Ogunmola, trading under the name and style Mono Consulting (40 per cent); Tunde Badejo, trading under the name and style Ebo Consult (15 per cent); and again, Tunde Badejo, trading under the name and style Intergrev Services (15 per cent).
He also claimed that the company was being used for “massive corruption purposes including tax evasion, bribery of government officials, diversion of funds” and money laundering.
The 40-page writ of summons, seen by PREMIUM TIMES, was issued by Mr Apara’s lawyer, Tade Ipadeola.
Details of the claims include an order compelling an account of all sums due to Mr Apara from 2010 till date; an order tracing all funds and assets due to him from the inception of the company to date; an order of specific performance of certain clauses of the partnership agreement that created the company by extant partners; an order for payment to the claimants by the defendants, all sums adjudged to be due to him on the submission of the accounts; and payment of 10 percent interest on the sums adjudged to be due to him.

Obasanjo’s propaganda to exonerate himself from culpability in the murder, which allowed him & PDP to get south west votes in 2003 Why did he not arrest and prosecute the killers for the six years he remained president after the killing?
There had been, and there are still many intellectuals among the yorubas...
And lf these particular people are allowed to rule..it would be fortunate for us all...
Really? So what stopped Awolowo from ruling Yoruba nation only like the Singaporean leader, Lee Kuan Yew? Awolowo was not intellectual enough to do that even though he was dribbled politically several times by the Fulanis since 1960 when he and Azikiwe allowed NPC double their own party’s parliamentary seats even though NPC was 3rd in the election? In 1963, Tafawa Balewa created the Mid West region out of the Western region but didn’t create the South South and the Middle Belt regions as discussed before he locked up Awolowo in jail. Nevertheless intellectual Awolowo agreed to join Gowon in fighting the Igbo people in 1967, expecting to be president when democracy returns. So where is the Yoruba intellectuals if south west states have regressed on governance deliverables since 1960? Deliverables like water, free education, healthcare, roads, electricity etc
