Nigeria’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew 3.4 percent in 2021, the strongest since 2014.
The figure is the first annual growth above 3 percent since President Muhammadu Buhari won the 2015 election.
In 2014, the economy grew 6.3 percent.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said this in its fourth-quarter GDP report released on Thursday.
According to the report, the GDP also posted a strong recovery of 3.98 percent in the fourth quarter of 2021 — but lower than the 4.03 percent in the third quarter.
“Nigeria Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 3.98%(year-on-year) in real terms in the fourth quarter of 2021, showing a sustained positive growth for the fifth quarter since the recession witnessed in 2020 when output contracted by -6.10% and -3.62% in Q2 and Q3 of 2020 under the Covid pandemic,” the report reads.
“The fourth quarter growth indicates a steady economic recovery accounting for annual growth of 3.40% in 2021.
“The Q4 2021 growth rate was higher than the 0.11% growth rate recorded in Q4 2020 by 3.87% points and lower than 4.03% recorded in Q3 2021 by 0.05% points. Nevertheless, quarter on quarter, real GDP grew at 9.63% in Q4 2021 compared to Q3 2021, reflecting a higher economic activity than the preceding quarter.”
The report showed that in Q4, aggregate GDP stood at N49.27 million in nominal terms.
“This performance is higher when compared to the fourth quarter of 2020 which recorded aggregate GDP of N43,564,006.29 million, indicating a year-on-year nominal growth rate of 13.11%. The nominal GDP growth rate in Q4 2021 was higher relative to 10.07% growth recorded in the fourth quarter of 2020 but lower compared to 15.41% growth recorded in the preceding quarter,” it added.
“The 2021 annual nominal growth stood at 13.92%. For better clarity, the Nigerian economy has been classified broadly into the oil and non-oil sectors.”
According to the report, the non-oil economy grew by 4.73% in the quarter from a year earlier, bolstered by 3.58 percent growth in agriculture and 5 percent in services. The oil sector contracted by 8.06 percent in the fourth quarter and an annual growth rate of -8.30 percent in 2021.
Governor Udom Emmanuel on Tuesday, February 15,2022 fled Uyo to the Republic of Ghana for a spiritual retreat and to meet with one of his strong prophets and ask about his succession plan. An aviation source at the Lagos airport said he abandoned all his security team in Lagos and entered the private jet alone to Ghana.
Before leaving Lagos, the source said he was angry with the huge amount of money he has spent on the endorsement of Pst. Umo Enoh as his choice for the 2023 polls. The Governor was said to be angry with his Senior Special Assistant, SSA, Mr Isantim Kenneth Okon for demanding #100 million from the government before the Youths will endorse Pst Umo Enoh for 2023.
The source said the demand for #100 million got the Governor angry. The Governor was said to have asked that when Akpabio brought him out for the 2015 elections, he did not spend too much money but that he has spent close to #20 billion on Umo Enoh’s endorsement alone. He was said to be angry that if he has to spend this much money on endorsement, how much will he spend at the PDP primary and the 2023 Governorship election.
Governor Emmanuel in dropping his security team in Lagos and travelling alone, our aviation source said was to prevent a leak of information on his whereabout or who he meets in Ghana when he is there. Even if the decision is a breach of his protocol and safety, he still went to Ghana alone and is expected back in Nigeria on Thursday, February 17, 2022.
The aviation source said the Governor who was monitored in Ghana through a Pastor who is close to the powerful prophet said the Governor is still worried about Umo Enoh winning the 2023 election. He has asked the prophet to perform some spiritual assignments for him in Ghana for his plans on Uno Enoh to succeed.
The Ghana source said Gov. Udom arrived Ghana with a lot of stress and confusion, a sign that all is not well with him and his 2023 plans. He said since he arrived he has been undergoing spiritual assignments and what he is now doing in Ghana is something he was told to do before presenting Umo Enoh as the Governor and Umo Eno had visited the prophet late last year.
These pictures are from a few months ago. The brand new Ikom Bridge under construction, in Cross River, to replace the old one, which I believe dates back to the Colonial era. You can see the old and new bridges side by side. #infrastructure
Note that this bridge leads to Cameroon and would increase trade between Nigeria and the neighboring country.
I remember the noise made over the Railway leading to Niger and how some people ignorantly said it was due to tribe. I guess the people here are also Fulani.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) will begin the acquisition of 24 Italian made M-346 fighter attack aircraft, adding the new fighter jets into its inventory as it looks to offset its older Alpha Jet Fleet. This was announced after NAF received a Federal Government approval for this purchase.
Out of the 24 ordered units of the M-346, NAF will take delivery of 12 units this year, with NAF hoping for the remaining 12 units to arrive from next year.
“We have already signed agreement for the supply of 12 and be rest assured that we are going to get 12 this year and the remaining ones will be supplied by next year,” said Director of Air Force Affairs, Ashibel Utsu.
According to multiple sources, pilots and engineers are to be sent for training at the International Flight Training School of Galatina, Lecce and Decimomannu Air base, Sardinia in Italy.
The combat capable M-346FA can perform ground attack, homeland defence and air policing missions and reconnaissance.
Various munitions and stores can be carried, including IRIS-T or AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles, various air-to-surface missiles, anti-ship missiles, free-fall and laser-guided bombs and rockets, a 12.7 mm gun pod, reconnaissance and targeting pods, and electronic warfare pods. Weapon aiming is performed using the Helmet Mounted Display and the multifunction displays.
The NAF is determined to get the right mix of military aircraft for its future inventory considering the idea of the new fighter jet which falls somewhere between fourth- and fifth-generation airframes – meaning it could easily be upgraded throughout its life.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) also began taking delivery of the first six of 12 Embraer A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft from July 22, 2021.
The A-29 Super Tucano will support flight and combat training, close air support operations, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), armed over-watch, counterinsurgency and irregular warfare scenarios. NAF will take delivery of the second batch before the end of the year.
Nigerian Air Force get ready for the first batch of M-346FA attack jet, aquired to replace the Alpha jet in the light ground attack role. With a price tag of $1.2 billion (for 24 aircraft) it is the single most expensive acquisition in the history of the Nigerian Air Force
The M-346FA will come between the Super Tucano and JF-17Thunder to become the workhorse of the NAF by complementing the Counter Insurgency warfare carried out by the A-29 Super Tucano
and provide air to air/ air superiority support to the JF-17 Thunder for strategic air defence and deep strike missions.

Professor Olayemi Durotimi Akinwumi, Federal University Lokoja (FUL) VC, Enmeshed in Sexual Scandals and Drunkenness
The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, is in the news again, not for anything different, but he has become associated with the same sordid acts. Information on the VC hobnobbing andallegedly having intimate relationships and carnal knowledge of female students of FUL within the confines of his favourite hotel located in Ganaja have overshadowed discussion. Our investigation revealed the Professor of History has areputation for hosting nocturnal drunken parties, an extravaganza held with his gang of friends in which young female University students are delivered from the Institution he leads.
One of the female students, an attendee, informed us she was invited by a friend for a night out at the NUJ hangout spot in the GRA area. And the student was astonished to arrive and see other colleagues, her VC, another professor she referred to as within management. She later realised that another of the older men was a friend of the VC from Nassarawa State University were all getting high. On another night, at a hotel in Ganaja area, the lady narrates that he began frolicking and propositioning me, to which the student claims to have succumbed. Scrutinising one of our sources reveals she was happy to speak to us on record as a friend of hers had replaced her as a favourite. To buttress how lousy and intimate the relationship between the girlfriends with Professor Akinwumi, they refer to him as ‘Psquare’ (aka Professor of Pussy). A nickname it is claimed he is called in banter by his randy pals and enjoys his girlfriends calling him.
Upon investigation, we have gathered these were the same sort of allegations that trailed him while he was with the Nassarawa State University that almost got him sacked if not for the efforts by the VC then to suppress the reports. A former colleague of his wondered if the FUL authorities carried out any due diligence before his selection – this would have come to their knowledge as his philandering with female students is well known in Nassarawa State University.
We gathered the randy VC, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, had daredevil gunmen attack the location on one of his regular nights’ rendezvous, partying and drinking in the Ganaja area of Lokoja with his friends and girlfriends. And the VC almost got kidnapped if not for the efforts of his many security detachments of Police, DSS and Civil Defence, who exchanged fire with the shooters and bundled the drunk professor into his official vehicle and sped off. The knowledge of these escapades is said to be well known by members of the University Management and Council given the security complaints and reports within the University.
It will be recalled that the University Vice-Chancellor was confronted by the Governing Council on allegations of corruption, malfeasance in the running of the University and outright abuse of office. This led to the VC, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, being issued a query by the University Governing Council and the National UniversitiesCommission. The VC we gathered escaped sanction after efforts of Kogi State elders who lobbied council members to save the VC from being booted out disgracefully. A source within the DVC’s staff lamented how Professor Akinwunmiwent round council members, screaming, wailing and rolling on the ground, begging to be spared, which some members took advantage of the opportunity and extorted him of millions, illegal employments, promises of favours and contract awards. Professor Olayemi Akinwumi is in history to be the first VC in Nigeria to have been queried for Corrupt activities within less than one year in office. Our correspondent gathered the prevailing belief is that the VC is not in control of the Institution and is viewed as a minion. He is teleguided and led astray by his self-overrated deputy on behalf of– a committee of self-serving and ethnic champions.
Within less than a year in office, the VC has reduced the JAMB cut-off mark from 180 points to 150, lowering thequality of students admitted for raising internally generated revenue irrespective of caution on the impact of such on standards. A recent visit to the University medical centre, when students who were victims of an accident at University gate, the staff revealed the lack of availability of hospital supplies/drugs led to students’ avoidable and irresponsible deaths. The frayed nerves of student leaders had to be calmed by compromising their leadership. The same complaints are prevalent in the departments where lecturers grumble aboutusing personal funds to buy supplies. Yet, the management squanders university resources on frivolities of University management such as the travel allowances for the large numbers of details/aides and staff that the VC, DVC and Bursar junket around weekly, leaving essential issues and mails attended to by inexperienced subordinates. Interestingly, TETFUND places of training and scholarships are the new reward system for staff, based on their affiliation to a particular leaning or cooperation, causing disaffection within the ranks.
Despite touting the recently contested University rankings that showed astonishing progress in FUL ranking, sources within the University reveal: even though the past administrations made significant progress in infrastructural facilities, promotions and recruitment of expertise, and expansion of the university programmes that have brought the ability of the University to move to the permanent site, the current administration led by professor Akinwumi with less than six months in office at the time of the ranking had no noteworthyachievement, especially in the criteria for ranking Universitiesto warrant such as a major change in positioning. The information at our disposal shows that the University bought its way through the ranking. It paid two and a half million through the overzealous and inept current Head of Department/Director of Quality Assurance in June 2021 to gain the position obtained and much-touted as progress despite no tangible achievement to show despite one year in office now. Messages and call put the VC’s official numberfor comments on the grievous allegations went unanswered.
The University Governing Council is urged to investigate these weighty allegations to return dignity to a system pervaded by moral decadence. We can provide documents, recordings and pictorial evidence to help if necessary.
In an old interview, Bola Tinubu reacted to different accusations from Nigeria's Main opposition party, PDP and he spoke about how the IGR of Lagos has risen from "an ordinary 600 Million Naira a month to 20 Billion Naira a month"
When he was asked if he truly gets 2 billion naira monthly from the IGR he described it as mere accusations that cannot be proven which he can ignore or go to court and described it as "Envy" and "Lack of knowledge"
He also spoke about how his administration in Lagos was the first to look at the option of bonds and approaching the financial market for funds which almost all PDP states and the federal government have approached in his words, "you must activate the financial markets"
He then spoke about how Lagos state funds were invested in Econet and he was heavily criticized for it but it reaped a whooping N15 billion naira profit. In his words, "we used N4 Billion to bring N19 Billion back to Lagos state" and he then questioned the intelligence of the PDP
He said "when you are superior to them in knowledge, intellectual capacity, in professionalism, you expect that you are wrestling with the pig, you'll get a little bit of stain"

One of the foremost automobile assembly plants in Nigeria, PAN Nigeria Limited, has dismissed reports that its Kaduna-based factory has been bought over.
The auto firm stressed that it is operationally doing well in its auto business as a separate entity from Dangote PAN.
A source at PAN Nigeria Limited disclosed that the Kaduna-based auto assembler has ceased to be assemblers of Peugeot vehicles in Nigeria and now evolved as a multi-brand assembler of reputable international brands.
PAN Nigeria, which incidentally will be marking the 50th anniversary of its incorporation in Nigeria during the year, will be rolling out exciting new brands designed to meet the high expectations of its target market.
It was learnt that PAN had already signed deals with two leading Chinese companies, Chery Automobile and Higer Bus Company, which specialize in the production of passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
While Chery is a leading manufacturer of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) and Sedans, Higer is a reputable producer of mini and city buses. The assembly of multiple brands at the PAN plant, will increase capacity utilization, create new jobs, and promote local content development.
A source from the plant said, “we have a wide range of exciting new products ranging from pickups, buses, sedans, SUVs, and ambulances which will be produced in our plant to serve needs of the important segments”.
He also disclosed that the new products would be competitively priced, offering high value for money in the PAN Nigeria tradition.
To this end, the source said that the company would bring its extensive experience as the foremost auto manufacturer to bear on the production, distribution, and maintenance of the new brands.
An appeal to nullify President Muhammadu Buhari's victory in the 2019 election, was on Wednesday, adjourned by the Court of Appeal in Abuja to May 18, 2022.
Recall that the Incorporated Trustees of the Civil Society Observatory for Constitutional and Legal Compliance (CSOCLC) had filed the appeal against the Buhari government, seeking the sacking of the incumbent and installation of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who came second in the 2019 Presidential election, as the President of Nigeria.
According to CSOCLC, the affidavit made by Buhari in the 2019 general elections was false.
But the three-member panel presided over by Justice Haruna Tsamani, during the hearing on Wednesday, adjourned the appeal to enable Buhari's administration to reconcile sort out an issue regarding the right legal representation for the President.
This was after two lawyers, Oluwole Afolabi and F. O. Amedu, announced appearances for both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Buhari, each claiming to be the genuine legal representative.
Due to the confusion, the court, therefore, adjourned the case till May 18, 2022.
Last weekend a longtime friend and I had a rendezvous to share drinks, discuss about business, life and most certainly banter.Topic after topic, we eventually got to discuss the Nigerianpolitical sphere and the 2023 elections – with emphasis on who and who are the most ‘qualified’ to lead this nation of ours. My friend holds the view that for justice and equity, the next president of Nigeria should emerge from the Southern part of the country, since the current President is of Northern origin. He further stated that political parties should give priority to those from the South East since they remain the only region in Southern Nigeria that hasn’t produced a President in this current democratic dispensation.
Despite rooting for the South East, my friend expressedreservation about the ability of the South East to maintain a united front in producing a candidate that possesses the political clout and pedigree that is of national appeal – in view of the constitutional requirement of certain percentage of national votes across states needed in order to win a presidential election. This observation made me to reflect on the possible personsfrom the South East whose presidential candidacy can allay the fear of my friend and others in his school of thought. I carefully began to access the profiles of the various Presidential hopefuls from the zone and their acceptance outside the region and went ahead to ask my friend what he thought about Senator AnyimPius Anyim’s chances.
Born in Ishiagu, Ivo LGA of Ebonyi State, on February 19, 1961to a modest family, Senator Anyim obtained his Bachelor of Laws Degree from Imo State University and was subsequently called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989. The need for continuous personal development spurred the young lawyer to embark on a post graduate study at the University of Jos, thereby obtaining a Master of Laws Degree in 1996. He has also had a stint in private legal practice.
Although Anyim had held several public leadership positions prior to 1999, these were not in elective capacity. His first shot at elective political office was his election as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the age of 37. While representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District, the distinguished senator did not allow his youthfulness to serve as a hindrance to his political advancement, as he would later by unanimous decision of his colleagues, emerge as the Senate President on August, 10, 2000.The unanimous support of the Senate, which is representative of the various constituencies that make up the Nigerian federation, is a testament of the national appeal and acceptance which the distinguished senator possesses even as an individual who was fairly new to the political space.
The hallmark of leadership sagacity of the senator was evident from his ability to manage a highly polarized Senate that saw three leaderships emerge within a single dispensation. The distinguished Senator Anyim was able to bring his leadership skill to bear by galvanizing the divers interest in the Senate thusallying the fears of perceived marginalized groups. Despite spending less than three years at the helm of affairs as Senate President, the Senate was still able to create landmark legislations such as: Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC) Establishment Act; Onshore/Offshore Dichotomy Act;Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act; Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Act, etc.
Although, the distinguished senator did not seek elective political office after he left the senate, he still remained a party faithful of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Even when the party’s decision to settle for a consensus arrangement for PDP Chairmanship in 2007 wasn’t in his favour, he remained a commited party man in an era where it is fashionable for politicians to defect from one party to another – depicting him as a statesman who is politically stable. Perhaps, this may be one of the factors which influenced his consideration and appointment as the first non-career civil servant to be appointed as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) by the President Goodluck Jonathan in May 2011.
Apart from his dutiful performance of the functions of his office as SGF, Senator Anyim gave stellar administrative support and was instrumental to most of the landmark achievements of the Jonathan administration. He was the administrative coordinator of the Justice Belgore chaired National Constitutional Conference in 2014. Sen. Anyim was in charge of the Presidential Committee of the national centenary celebration that same year. The Transformation Agenda of the administration was coordinated by the office of the SGF. In recognition of the need for transparency and self-appraisal in government, the Senator formulated and implemented the trailblazing mid-term report which highlighted the activities of the administration.
Outside political positions, Senator Anyim has also demonstrated his selfless and humanitarian disposition through the establishment of the Senator Anyim Pius Anyim Service Library Ltd/Gte, a testament of the Senator’s desire for educational advancements, youth mentorship and human capital development. As a trustee of the Chioma Anyim Foundationfounded in 2008, Senator Anyim has been able to make funds available for young persons who are in need of scholarship, personal needs, health needs, housing needs and capital support for business start-ups. They also provide welfare support for elderly people aa well as other vulnerable categories of persons. There is no doubt that this social welfare disposition of the distinguished Senator would get even better replication at theNational level upon his emergence as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Nigeria is in dire need of this form of leadership, given the rising rate of vices and decadence amongst Nigerian youths of late and the growing need for better living conditions in the country.
Having considered the rich profile of Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, the conclusion of the matter to me (and certainly a lot of other Nigerias), is that the cap fits Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.

It is no longer news that Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, formerSecretary to the Government of the Federation, President ofthe Nigerian Senate(2000 – 2003), a man on whose shoulders the responsibility of stabilising the 4th Senate as well as shoring up public confidence in the red chamber rested, has formally joined the 2023 race for Aso Rock.
Anyim, who was elected Senate President at the age of 39, is a vigorous problem solver and crisis manager with a decade of experience in social justice activism prior to his election as a Senator. His candidacy is indeed a welcome development andcan be described as the best way to accomplish his mission as a statesman as well as to render service to his people and country.
Speaking at a South-East briefing and consultation session in Enugu recently, Anyim stated “I have been privileged to understand our national problems and appreciate their enormity and peculiarities in the last twenty-one (21) years from my vantage positions in both the legislative and executive arms of government; therefore, I have a clear view of the task ahead as well as the solutions needed to advance the cause of our country.”
Anyim, 61, has remained a loyal member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from inception. His commitment through good and bad times has seen him become a member of the Party’s Board of Trustees (BOT), National Caucus and the National Executive Committee (NEC). He has also served as a member of the PDP’s Reconciliation Committee and had once declared his interest to become the Chairman of the Party. He ran a principled campaign and enjoyed the support and endorsements of party members across the country, however a consensus agreement reached to zone the chairmanship to another geopolitical zone (other than his), prevented him from clinching the party’s top job.
Senator Anyim believes in building strong institutions rather than personal pursuits of power or position. Having inherited a crisis-ridden and factionalized Senate, with the solid support of other Senators, he enhanced the dignity and integrity of the legislature as the bastion of democracy. The Senate, under his watch, was focused, cohesive and productive. By the end of his tenure as President, the Senate was reestablished as a fierce defender of democracy and a catalyst for good governance.
Before this, he had held several executive positions in the Directorate for Social Mobilisation, with extensive experience in drawing up mobilization programmes, strategies and manuals for the Directorate’s operations. From 1989 through to 1992, he served as Social Justice Coordinator, and later,Legal Adviser to the Directorate for Social Mobilisation (MAMSER). From 1992 to 1997, he was Head of Protection Department, National Commission for Refugees. He supervised the refugee eligibility process of the Commission, liaised with local and international organizations on all matters concerning refugees’ human rights, general protection and the creation of awareness on refugee matters in addition to advising the Chief Executive on the implementation of conventions on refugees.
In May 2011, Senator Anyim was appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) by President GoodluckJonathan and became the first non-career civil servant to serve in this capacity. As SGF, he employed his deep experience in managing inter-governmental affairs and wide contacts in the legislative arm to forge a strong working relationship between the Executive and the Legislature which engendered trust and a rancour-free partnership that delivered good governance and effective service delivery by the government. Senator Anyimsuperintended many critical and landmark programmes of the federal government that helped to define the GoodluckJonathan Administration.
His charismatic leadership qualities & experience are a few of many other attributes that make him eminently qualified to become President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, especially at a time as this when Nigerians earnestly seek a succour from the burdens of the present days.
Senator Anyim is at home with ordinary Nigerians whose experiences and daily struggles he easily relates with, being himself, a man of humble beginnings. This consciousness greatly influenced his founding and establishment of the“Chioma Anyim Foundation” in 2008. Through the auspices of the Foundation, Senator Anyim provides funds for various needs ranging from educational needs (scholarship funds) and other needs (philanthropic funds) as ways of rendering assistance to as many people as he can. The funds are also earmarked to support start-ups, housing & health needs and the up-keep of the old and the aged. Since its establishment, the foundation has recorded about 300 beneficiaries per year, from every part of the country.
He has enjoyed grassroots support over the years and the energy of his past campaigns, progressive policies, bills and resolutions(while in the senate) have been broadly embraced. This makes him the candidate with the most advantage; he is not a political outsider and has a country-wide name recognition and dedicated following from his establishedyouth mentorship programme under the auspices of Senator Anyim Pius Anyim Service Library & Museum LTD/GTE. The central objective of the Mentorship Programme is to inspire the youths to break barriers in other to realize their potentials.
His decision to run for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023 is in order to be part of our collective effort to promote national unity and as well oversee economic prosperity. If successful, Senator Anyim has the capacity to ensure the nation moves in the path of peace, development and progress.
Senator Anyim holds the second highest national honour in Nigeria – Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger(GCON). He is a legal practitioner and received his Bachelor of Law (LL.B) Honours Degree from Imo State University in 1987, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989 and thereafter proceeded to the University of Jos where he obtained his Master of Laws (LL.M) in 1996. He is a Christian, has three children and is married to Chioma, who is also a lawyer.

Reprieve came the way of former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, today after the Code of Conduct Tribunal dismissed the corruption allegation against him for lack of diligent prosecution.
The Code of Conduct Bureau had in September arraigned Mr. Tinubu before the tribunal over allegation that he operated foreign accounts during his term in office between 1999 and 2007, contrary to Nigerian laws.
The court however ruled today that the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. But before quashing the charges, the court dismissed the motion by the former governor’s legal team challenging its jurisdiction to hear the case.
Mr. Tinubu’s camp, which has all along blamed his trial on political witch-hunting, erupted into spontaneous celebration moments after the judgment.
The Lagos State chapter of the former governor’s party, Action Congress of Nigeria, quickly issued a statement applauding the tribunal for resisting the temptation to be used to persecute a leader of the opposition.
“By that ruling, the tribunal has demonstrated that justice is still obtainable even in an atmosphere of petty politics and funny contrivances,” the party said in a statement by its spokesperson, Joe Igbokwe.
“We are gladdened that the Code of Conduct Tribunal has dispensed justice without fear or favour in this frivolous case, meant to slow down the desire to do away with the misrule of the PDP,” Mr. Igbokwe said. “We see this as a reinvigoration of that desire and state that nothing will stop our great party from its determination to replace the PDP, which has led the rapid degradation of governance in a well endowed country as Nigeria.”
He continued, “By dismissing this frivolous case, nurtured and cooked in the chambers of vindictive and petty politics, the Code of Conduct Tribunal has shown a desire not to be employed as a hatchet to prosecute the selfish partisan battles of the PDP, we are happy that the tribunal is showing that signal at a crucial stage of our national life when the nation longs for a fresh air from 13 years of unmitigated misrule. We salute the courage of the members of the tribunal and we state that by this ruling, the tribunal has shown the way on an impartial approach to issues.
“We congratulate the National Leader of our great party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his latest victory, which is just one out of the strings of victories that he has recorded against those that hold Nigeria by the jugular. We salute his raw courage and audacity to lead the time honoured quest to rescue Nigeria from the hands of rapacious political predators that want to keep Nigeria hostage till eternity. We want him to see this as just the beginning of the battle for the soul of Nigeria , as we pledge our unalloyed support to him.”
As part of efforts to achieve youth inclusiveness in governance and policy making, the #SupportMeToLead movement is set to engage young Nigerians aspiring for leadership positions in country through its mock elections.
The convener, in a statement on Thursday said the movement was formed out of the “quest for good leadership” and to “enthrone a Nigerian democracy with more dedicated leaders while ensuring adequate representation of youths and the vulnerable in the society.”
He said that the movement will produce capable leaders by ensuring active participation of more Nigerian youths in politics through its political enlightenment and campaign sponsorship programmes.
He highlighted poor campaign funding and high cost of nomination forms for various electoral offices in the country as major hurdles for youth representation in politics and governance.
The convener said: “From our indebt research, we discovered that 80% Nigerian youths lack the financial capacity to fund campaigns given that major donors and godfathers usually prefer older men whom they believe have more chances of winning, young people are naturally disenfranchised.”
He disagreed with the narrative that youths are too young to run but rather are “too poor to run and in dilemma as to how to mobilize sufficient funds to be eligible to contest elections.”
The statement read: “#SupportMeToLead is an evolutionary and purposeful democratic social movement organised with the goal of giving political voice to Nigerians particularly youths, using ‘mock elections’ as a yardstick to identify/determine emerging and ready youth aspirants/candidates. SupportMeToLead also posits that the initiative will provide the needed information and platform to mobilize campaign for funds ahead of the actual elections.
“Lowering the accessibility barrier to youth inclusiveness in our contemporary democracy and governance. It has the unique possibilities to redirect the future of our country by ensuring that young people actively participate in decision making at the helm of the affairs of our country.
“In our quest to ensure fairness and level playing ground for all eligible political aspirant like in other climes where the young are given preferential treatment all policy making and decisions which translates into socio-economic growth, it is important that all critical stakeholders should encourage #SupportMeToLead.”
ABUJA – The House of Representatives has called for the establishment of more industries across the federation as a means of checking increasing unemployment and social vices among the youths.
The House, therefore, mandated the Committee on Labour Employment and Productivity to develop a comprehensive industrial revolution template featuring both economic and social impact projections and report back within six (6) weeks for further legislative action.
It also mandated the Committee on Legislative Compliance to ensure implementation of the resolution.
These followed the adoption of a move brought by Hon. Chinedu Emeka Martins, wherein he noted that the “unprecedented rate of unemployment is the root of the social vices currently experienced in the country and 33.3% unemployment and the 28% youth unemployment rates amounting to over 11 million unemployed youths, verifies the lack of cottage industries in the country, which should have played a critical role in engaging youthful energy positively in the production of raw materials as well as semi-finished products, thus distract young people from taking up social vices as the only alternative for survival and social mobility.”
The lawmaker also stressed the need for a comprehensive industrial revolution saying, “an intervention at this point in the history of our nation, given the recent developments in the political, social and economic spheres of the country which re–emphasize the fact that youths are important stakeholders in the Nigerian project.”
He said, “the predominance of industrial clusters in South East Asian countries has motivated industrial growth in the form of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and massive decline in unemployment, making way for stability in the economy, political leadership and lower crime rates as a result of their remarkable success in industrialization.”
He said a similar strategy of building cottage industries has worked agreeably in some African countries like Rwanda, Mozambique, Ghana and South Africa, an indication that grassroots industrialization produces an array of positive economic and social impacts.
He however expressed worries that Nigeria is yet to positively harness the human capital resources accruing from its youthful population through the creation of industrial clusters to engage the youths.
He believes that “it has become imperative for government to re-strategize by establishing industries in the 360 federal constituencies, which would play a critical role in curbing the unemployment problems and boost the country’s Gross Domestic Products.”
He argued that “such an Industrial Revolution Scheme, if implemented and sustained will entrench the culture of hard work and regrow moral values lost in the wake of cybercrime, human trafficking, kidnapping and drug addiction.”
“The siting of Industries in the 360 Federal Constituencies will facilitate Federal presence at the grassroots and positively impact lives of rural dwellers through employment, infrastructural development. Envisages a comprehensive industrialization scheme targeting both extractive and manufacturing stages as well as the processing of agricultural produce into semi-finished products for internal consumption and possible export, while establishing cottage industries based on needs assessment and viability in the 360 Federal Constituencies of the Federation to combat unemployment and drive grassroots industrial growth.”

The bill we signed reads Not Too Young To Run, not the elderly must die. -Segun Showunmi
*The bill we signed is Not Too Young To Run, not the elderly must die*
When President Buhari signed the Not Too Young To Run bill on 31st of May 2018, it was a welcomed development as it lowered the age to give more access to those wanting to contest. I do not see any clause in it that says age is now a disease or an impediment to anyone aspiring to be anything in our country, Nigeria.
I have listened and watched with nauseating amusement, the fixation on age as the only parameter, especially to the high office of the presidency, under some silly assumption that the presidency of Nigeria is a stone quarry where the occupant is expected to use Stone Age Tools to chip mountains into chips for building. Hello friends, get busy and come to the table with ideas and snap out of these bully tactics directed at the elderly. No one, and I repeat, no one, is stopping anybody from aspiring for any office of their liking. We do not have an age ceiling on eligibility to contest.
I have seen wet trees die while the dry ones live much longer, the mortality experience of humans does not justify this lazy frenzy. Do the young not die just as much as the elders? Do the infirmities of health not affect all humans? I don’t get it. Thankfully each and everyone that is qualified is free to aspire. The reality of what the contest demands will manage the garrulousness of infantile lackeys of the kindergarten wannabes.
So it is Waziri Atiku Abubakar or Asiwaju Bola Tinubu that these lots are hoping to bully of their ambitions with the screaming and shouting about age.
Shall we not examine their scorecards on the assignments and opportunities granted them.
We know those younger leaders that can bring something to the table, and we know the unstable over-ambitious office seekers who are simply deceiving themselves. Time will tell.
Their story is like that of the leach that wants to kill the dog it feeds on, forgetting that once the dog dies, the leach will cease to exist.
If Atiku Abubakar is often in the news while the consultation is still ongoing, I tell you again he will be one of the issues in the build-up to 2023.
When nations are looking for leadership in a democracy, they look for who can get the job done. In our case, the demand is more, for we will be on a fools gambit to think the challenges the country faces is child’s play.
Some of the big issues before us are 1. Structure of the federation. The issues are deep rooted in old suspicions and animosities. A deep knowledge of the historical background will be required. It calls for some experience. 2. High stake international renegotiation of our debt obligations. Be not deceived, serious influence and access which comes from long term participation in such, creates an advantage, this yields to experience too. 3. Putting together a team that accommodates our diversity requires a reasonable knowledge of the country and the players. 4. Security. It is very easy to think some knowledge and experience on troops deployment is not required. I hold the view that it is.
Enjoy yourselves, kids. Your elders are busy on the field.
The immediate former Governor of Imo State, Hon Emeka Ihedioha, has termed as deliberate falsehood reports on social media alleging that he has switched his Christian faith.
The former governor said the claim that he switched Christian faith for Islam is a gross misrepresentation of facts.
The former Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives was spotted on Wednesday praying inside a mosque during the funeral rites of the elder brother of Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.
In a statement by his media aide, Chibuike Onyeukwu, on Friday, he maintained that the claim is a “harebrained act of desperation that is as malicious and wicked as it is puerile.”
The statement reads: “While His Excellency has great respect for all faiths, everyone knows that he is not only a committed Christian but, also a Knight of the Anglican Church.
