yorubaamerican: Having one Nigerian parent is hard. I came to Nigeria in 2007. I don't understand why people here think I should renounce my 'Americanism'. I always explain that being American and just having American citizenship are two different things, and I let people know that I didn't choose to grow up and be socialized into American culture. I often get called lost or, the one I hate the most, a former - this means I'm acting American. I understand this train of thought because one does come across many wannabe Americans here, but people should get to know me first before concluding. They should know that I have just as many ties to America as any other person who calls themselves American. They should also know that I will correct them when they make fool-hearted assumptions about America. And they should know that I do the same thing to Americans who speak down on Nigeria.I don't think you should bother yourself but to be honest Nigerians in Nigeria can tell if you are from there or not, and it you are not that's when you hear this stuff. Also they should know better based on your back ground to put that pressure on you. |

Do you think Africans should buy back their artifacts? https://www.nairaland.com/1023211/hear-african-nairalanders-save-cultures#11900313 |
i got this inspirational idea from anonymous6's thread, "America Returns 11 Cultural Artifacts To Nigeria". Instead of depending on those white-fellows to act charitable and return it, or on customs department raids, or on the Nigerian Government (or any other African Government) from buying back these artefacts, it is time WE Africans buy back these artefacts ourselves, especially so it is your duty if the artefact belongs to your tribal/ethnic group. i a not telling you to buy everything. even buying one ora couple of ancient artefacts ensures they be brought back to our homeland. ofcourse the ones in the foreign museums is the responsibility of the African Governments. but i have noticed many antique African artefacts going on sale online for relatively cheaper prices. usually due to following economies, falling demand on antiques, house auctions from old homes, colonial esates, etc, selling off private collections to make a quick buck, etc. Therefore i will hereby start posting such genuine rare antiquities yet relatively cheaper artefacts of our history.anyone interested (only African tribals), let me know and ill give you the online link. if the item belongs to your tribe,, and if it is of religious nature (idols, etc), you could build a small shrine for it (say in your home), or donate it or sell it to masqueraders (masks), or if it is not you could give/sell it to the local museum. It is however advisable not to keep them as mere decorations but to give them their due respect and make use of them. my search is on. here goes the first one:
That is a good idea, many people from other cultures particularly Asians are doing this |
^ hmm, well, I'm not expecting no drama.
Well I guess we will wait and see |
I saw the interview, and it was ok to me. She seemed more open to the Oprah interview then the Diane Sawyer interview, but I am not surprised she still misses him though based on how she has acted towards him after that event between her and chris |
more drama, lord have mercy.
well not for her having a baby but who is the father and will she be marrying soon; I am not judging though but that is where I feel when you mean the drama may come from. However we don't know she may have gotten married already legally and kept her business and her man to herself. I congratulate her though and think she is a good actress. |
well congratulations to both of them |
"The talented actress cum business woman has been off the movie scene for a while, but we can now authoritatively tell you Bisi Ibidapo-Obe aka Bisi Omo Logba-Logba is back! Yes she is back with a big bump. The actress was spotted recently looking robust with all vital signs of pregnancy present. Even though there was no news of her getting married, but as we all know this is not an immaculate conception, so the baby-daddy is still under wraps. But should we all start praying no husband-snatching drama come out of this one again? Because when they keep the news hush-hush, suddenly one woman will just show up with pictures and marriage certificate. But in the meantime, from the bottom of our heart we say a big congratulations to her." http://www.gistexpress.com/2012/08/13/good-news-nollywood-actress-bisi-ibidapo-obe-is-pregnant/ https://audionigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/bisi-ibidapo.jpg |
