Even though I posted what specialization would look like between frontend and backend Here's the breakdown of what we are currently learning for the next 9months. It is actually hilarious because we're still in git, emacs, and shell. Meaning we haven't started. I'm glad cause these days I do my project ahead of the D-Day and get to study more. 1 Like 2 Shares

Good Morning guys I try as much as possible to post infos I feel would benefit anyone into making a decision as to whether to go for the program or not! I'm about to post pictures of specialization after the first 9months. It was actually on my dashboard but I noticed it today! After the first 9months of foundation, the remaining three months is to pick your specialization between frontend and backend. Below is what you will be taught based on your pick. 1 Share

I finished today's project and went ahead to do the projects meant to be sent for tomorrow. Listen guys, if you have spare time, check your dashboard, go to "planning", in there you will see the projects that were sent to you today and the ones that will be sent to you tomorrow. I already did tomorrow's project and currently learning the projects for next tomorrow (9th). That way, I'm on track and won't be caught by surprise. From the pictures I sent, the first picture shows the projects sent today and the one for tomorrow. The second picture is the checker that will check your code to ensure you did the project like you were told. It scores your project. The third picture was after I was done with my shell project. That green marks shows I have done the project that it was scored. Always ensure your project is scored before moving to the next. 4 Likes

FOR THOSE WITHOUT LAPTOP I chatted with one of the ALX mentor concerning the fact that I don't have a laptop and how it slowed my progress. I was advised to visit a Cyber cafe whenever I want to do my projects. And I think it's cool and convenient. Rather than lamenting and begging for a laptop when you can't afford the fund, you can read the materials on your phone, and do the projects on a Cyber cafe. This is great because you don't need to download any software. Just use chrome and log into your ALX intranet account, open the sandbox and do your projects!! Just saying since I know there are people out there who really wanna go for the program but don't have a system. And you know in the cyber cafe you pay by hour, depending on the location, so I see this more like an opportunity than a burden. And I know they're people out there who would complain that *"why should I visit a Cyber cafe for the next 12 months?"* Well that's left for you to decide! Just the little time I have been in the program, I have learnt a lot and associated with great people. Plus if you are resilient enough to finish to the end of the program. IhateRetards:My tutorials? Let me give you an instance of what the materials are like using C. The texts with red are links that would redirect you to the web to read or watch the materials. I don't have any materials to share with you guys except the pdf on C. Just check on google or YouTube for materials. For those asking for materials, please make use of Google or YouTube. I only have pdf file of C programming language. The rest are links, it's nothing special, make use of the materials online.

The pictures below are meant to preparing the new cohort starting on the 6th of this month. The first picture contains the first week of projects you will be getting. As you can see, they're basics projects to get you familiar with the community, intranet, growth mindset and more. The second picture contains the editors and command lines you need to know in order to do coding projects. Might look simple but if the checker fails, you might have to destroy your sandbox and start all over again. I'm not trying to discourage anyone but always have it at the back of your mind that no project is easy and try to ask your peers questions if you get stuck. The third picture is all about shell. If you notice, I didn't do a lot of projects. Through an advice from a certain person, I decided to re-register. So I'm going to start with the next cohort starting on the 6th. This is because I delayed some projects which reduced my mark. Anyways, I'm already familiar with them, so I'm looking forward to it. Always Make Sure To Do Your Projects Early! The fourth picture contains projects for this week. We're already on C programming languages. Lol I'm tempted to do it but it's of no use. Anyways let's have a blast guys!

Derrylatei:Then. I will be blunt with you to make things easier. Go and watch tutorials on Shell, Git, emacs and vim. These are important editors and command lines that will be required of you to do your projects. If you have time, check out the materials sent on your mail pertaining C language. On the first week of the onboarding program, you won't do much(basic projects to inspire you and get you involved in the community) and people tend to let their guards down until the second week, then the third and then you realize... ALX SE program is HARD! If you want to succeed in this program, always have it in your mind that the program is hard! Because the second you forget that and procrastinate a little, your grades will keep going down while your projects will keep piling, which is one of the reasons why people quit. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

So make sure you apply today because if you apply tomorrow or next, you will be joining a different batch(Which will take a month or two) but if you apply today, you will start on 6th of this month. ABUPHARM:Indeed I make use of my phone most of the time and only use a laptop at work. I have gotten a hang of things that you need if you wanna make it to the first month. - Never be shy to ask questions, being confident is good but overconfidence can ruin someone. - Always use the SANDBOX for your projects!! This cannot be overemphasize. I did my projects on Git bash and wasn't graded so please note that. - whenever a project is out, even if you don't intend to do it immediately, go through the materials and questions, just to have an idea of what you will be working on. 10 Likes |

It seriously hasn't been easy. One thing I wanna explain to all those intending to apply. Please get the materials and prepare ahead. This message is not to discourage anyone please but to help individuals who intend to finish the program. A friend of mine told me that last year, out of 24,000 students that applied for his set, only 4000 graduated. Not because they weren't serious enough to continue but some had to drop out probably because they didn't make up to 80% score in the first month. Some because of the workload and projects. Let me give you a break down using python as an instance. You will be sent materials to read and watch on python with several projects to do for a couple of days. You aren't just getting projects from python alone, and at most you're required to finish reading the materials in a day or two. Then comes to projects. All emphasis is that you should always prepared five steps ahead. My grade has not been good not because the project is too difficult but because of chance and at times, the checker drives me crazy. I finished my projects on Git with my working laptop, though I didn't do it on the sandbox, I did it with git bash and linked it to my GitHub only to realize I wasn't scored!! I had to redo it all over again using the sandbox. From the picture below was how I realized that I wasn't scored that day. 1 Like |

I just felt like saying this for those that intend to go for the program. You have to be PREPARED! Emotionally, mentally, and physically. For those without laptop, don't just give up! I don't laptop and I know there will come a stage where it will be needed but I hope before then I'm able to get a laptop. Before ALX, I was learning frontend using my phone, I used an app called "SPCK" to build projects. Check it out on playstore. 3 Likes |

While on a project, I was redirected for a test. A general test involving HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, SQL, C, Linux, Data Structures and Algorithm. My mind was like *"wtf bro, I'm still a noob on data structures, Linux and few others"* Well the score is not really important according to them. Mehn... Been up since 3:45 trying to complete last week's project. Mehn... It's not easy! It just keeps returning error from my phone, I don't know if it is because I'm using my phone for it but I don't think that's the case. I haven't done yesterday's project and another ones were sent today. I intend to finish git and work on Emac today. I'm trying not to over push myself cause it had an impact on me last week Sunday. Could barely open my eyes and the headache felt like my head was going to explode. Anyways I reached out to the community for help on my issues, and I have been getting help. I also noticed the number of participants have dropped, probably my imagination and from the announcement I read this morning, it is certain we're now on the real deal!
