I have been trying to update the thread since yesterday but Nairaland serve wouldn't allow it. I received a message from ALX SE team today, I guess the countdown for elimination has begun!(Dramatic song plays in the background)... Another thing happened today, someone from the 3rd cohort who specialized in backend was brought in to defend his projects, I really wanted to watch the video but I was a bit late and the link was removed. In other words, whoever finishes the program by luck through "copy and paste" will have to defend the projects to prove he or she did it without copying others before being added to the "ROOM". Lately, my group has been very quiet lol, I understand everyone is trying their best to not get eliminated, which is why I urge the August cohort to put in their best. You just have to give in your all, just imagine for today's C project, we had to study pointers, Array, Strings and basic data structures and still finish the project in 24hrs. It is just overwhelming, which is why I keep emphasizing on studying ahead.

TheTraveler:Please stroll up for the link |

This ALX virtual assistant program cost $750 but is being offered to Africans for free through several partners sponsorship. So don't listen to anyone that tells you to pay certain amount of fees. I think this is the second batch but they already commenced the program today, so if you register now, you will be starting on August 15th.

Hello I know certain questions popped when you saw this thread I'm undergoing the software engineering program of ALX and I don't intend to quit! This thread are for people who applied for virtual assistant. I will be updating this thread with information pertaining to alx virtual assistant program, Incase you want to pursue a career with a short learning duration. ALX Virtual Assistant Program is a two(2) month program, (8 weeks) that will equip you with the skills you need to become a virtual assistant, 40-50hrs a week and 10hrs a day or less. If you apply for the program, you will undergo four stages of test and if you pass, you will accepted on board. If you succeed in the program after 2months, you will be added to the "ROOM" for job opportunities and networking. Below, I will be sharing the brochure and curriculum for better understanding of the program. |
IhateRetards:Alright I will message you then |
Good Morning Everyone I want to start on this note, please don't email me to add you to the group, because I usually read my emails late, so you won't think I saw your mail and ignored it. That was why I dropped the group link here so that anyone can easily access it and join. If the link stop working, I will always resend. You might send me a mail to add you to the group and it might take days before I reply because I hardly open my mail, I hope you won't take it the wrong way, Thanks. The week just started but my work already tripled. So I just checked my email today and saw a mail for something I applied (though I forgot I applied...lol). It was actually an internship offer but I won't be paid, when I'm done, I will be given letter of recommendation and other stuffs. VA program also started today, will create a different thread for it. I slept pretty late last night, was in a google meeting with my colleagues till 11:30pm before we finished. We were discussing on this week's project and how to go about it. Some of the topics we include... (Pointers, Array, Strings). Lord!!! String in C is nowhere similar to string in python. ALX projects even gave me added to my headache yesterday . I had to read and watch different sources to get a comprehensive note. I was just so happy because my colleagues explained it so well, we actually shared the project tasks amongst ourselves so that each person can explain one but whoever explains it wrongly will be assisted by us.

Skyblazer:My apologies I just noticed that someone keeps changing the link This is it below For anyone that wants to join the group, here's the link ( https: //chat.whatsapp. com/Gl5BmRzcf0NIO7SU9Dwn3M) Copy the link to somewhere else and close in the spaces, there should be no spaces. Then you should be able to use it. |
Cyberdotman:Stroll up, you would see the link for the group. Please guys, let's not derail the thread. No need to drop your numbers because the link is up there and if it isn't working, I can repost the link, please... |
IhateRetards:What cohort are you? |
Elevenn:Use use of this one ( https: //chat.whatsapp . com/HV7Ym3W03KxIQdQNkABlX2) Copy the link to somewhere else, close in all the spaces and it should work |
I have once stated here that I opened a private group with few colleagues whom I can associate with during tough projects to help one another. Well guess what? Since we started C project, the group has been dead as hell!! Only few guys have been able to keep it going but I knew it was quiet because of the difficulties of the projects. I also rarely spoke there because I usually do my projects after the first deadline which affected my score and my work has been taking too much of my time (I usually arrive home late by past . But yesterday, I kept sending everyone of them a private message to know their challenges on C, we made a decision to do a Google meeting to explain all the C project from the first project. Everyone were going to participate and talk! That way, they're able to remember easily and feel the responsibility. Because of the rain, network was shitty and it was already getting late (past 10pm), so we rescheduled the meeting to today. We shared materials for this week's projects. So that everyone can read ahead, prepare and participate in solving the task together, that way, we would be ahead. The point I'm trying to derive from this is that, you will need your peers if you want to finish ALX!! David, who got hired by Amazon emphasized the role his peers played in helping him till he graduated. For this week's projects, we will be starting basic data structures and algorithms. Not going to lie, I'm a bit anxious since I have heard all the hypes about data structures and algorithms but I'm also excited too.

japajapa2canada:I am quite confused of how you can use Nairaland programming section to comments but not ask questions when you're stuck. Nairaland aside, is stack overflow a joke to you? You don't know discord? Quora? I have been stuck a lot of times and simple googling and reading different sources helped me find my way. It will be difficult for you if you want it to be. The only thing I can admit that makes physical classes good is the commitment. Since you have a mentor who frequently check on your progress, you know your way about and keep progressing but then again if you can't be motivated enough to code on your own, then I rather not be impolite but maybe it's a waste of time. |
chukwuebuka65:If I speak in the context of ALX, he can easily screen where he got stuck, paste it on ALX slack community and tag mentors or his peers for help. Besides if you are learning on your own using YouTube or PDFs, you can always reference stack overflow, Nairaland, Quora for help. If you speak from experience then I assume you never optimized google to be of good use to you. |
demmyhandsome:But a lot of people joined this morning Try this one ( https: //chat.whatsapp. com/Gfja1lMN9Dh0yLTbahl5PT) Copy it and close in the spaces |
chukwuebuka65:Lol So if he enrolls in a bootcamp,.he won't need to google? Or having a mentor automatically means he won't make research? Lmao this is hilarious I admit self-learning requires a lot but from your post, I don't see the point you're trying to make about him enrolling in a bootcamp. Won't it still be online? Or if given a project, is it his mentor that's going to do it for him? There are aspect that requires a mentor and there are aspect one needs to do on his own |
ABUPHARM:I can agree and disagree on this depending on how I chose to go about it. The whole essence of being on slack is to bond with your peers and meet them for help if you're having any difficulties. I for one am in a lot of ALX groups which helped me. It's not 90% study. Some of us held google meeting and explained the concepts of what we have learnt previously. I'm not disputing the fact that you have to study on your own but whenever you are stuck and you meet your peers, they will help you! Unless you feel too shy to ask for help |
Socrates1111:Wow... I'm glad to hear that you applied Meanwhile I already dropped the link for the group up there, so you might have to stroll up and look for it. Looking forward to seeing you all join |
ajerimitan:I just added the link so y'all can join |
demmyhandsome:Good Morning ( https:///Gfja1lMN9Dh0yLTbahl5PT) Omo Even if you email me, I won't be able to reply immediately. That's the link |
It's the weekend and you know what this means... No projects! Will make use of the opportunity to study C, write some articles and read more. Lately my score has been going down because I keep doing my projects after the first deadline, which is why I'm reading ahead to prevent that, doing my project after the first deadline will automatically reduce my score from 100% to 65%. We had an evaluation test yesterday (Questions were set from C language and shell), didn't think it was important but it was and the score was added to my foundation score as "Evaluation quizzes", oh Bleep! I have been quite careless this last week I woke up early to study C because it has been frustrating me. I once had a misconception that it was easy because it had similar syntax with python, oh hell no!!! It's not! The difference are clear now and I'm suffering from every project. Even my weekend plans be looking too tight cause I have a lot to do with little time. At this point, I'm tired of emphasizing that you study ahead (August cohorts), I'm pretty sure experience will be your teacher. Gotta go continue my learning
|
demmyhandsome:Alright |
Galapagous:Well send your number to my email |
demmyhandsome:I actually revoked the link some guy joined the link, copied everyone's contact and kept spamming their dm. |
Geofavor:I will now. |
learning22:Which of the ALX course did you apply for? Cause I know of a new batch of software engineering that would be starting on August. I understand your point of view, which is why alx is great because you will added to a community of great minded people who share the same goal as yourself. |
Belkid01:Hollup let me get the link (https:///FyS3np1EyCL9bg4b6Th7i0) That's the link for ALX August cohort |
Geofavor:Well... At first it wasn't easy but I was able to make it work. Let me give you a breakdown of how it works and I will drop pictures of how they look like when I use them. - Termux - Termux for me is like a mini terminal for phones. It has it's limit but when I link it to my sandbox, I'm able to do my projects just fine. - Sololearn - Sololearn is a very good app for learning and practicing what you learnt. I use it to practice my C coding And if we start python, I already have an app for it. Here are the pictures below - Pydroid for Python - Termux and - Sololearn

Honestly I'm no longer conscious of date and time. The only days I ever look forward to is the Peer learning days(PLD) because it's like a spare time to study more and review previous projects. Yesterday's rain really stressed me out and increased my work, I couldn't find time to study and the little time I had wasn't enough. Got home late and slept off with the thought of waking up by 3am to study and do my projects. Instead, I woke up by 6am, Omo I just tiya. It was even worst because I missed the first project deadline, but there's a second deadline which would end in three days. Might sound like a good thing but my score will be reduced from 100% to 65%! As if that wasn't enough, I checked my email today and saw a message from the SE team. It was a reminder that they would be dropping people on 15th of this month. Those who didn't make up to 80% and here I am getting my score reduced. Since morning I have been on YouTube, geeks4geeks, reading and taking notes. Yesterday's project was a no joke oh. A lot of people I know couldn't finish because of the requirements for the project. I plan to go to work late as long as I achieve my aim. Please August cohort, it would really sadden me that anyone of you would follow this thread and end up dropping out. This was the reason why a group was created, read ahead!! There won't be enough time because there is much to cover. Please help yourselves.
|
Odogwu002:Actually an ALX group was created for those that will be resuming on August. I usually post materials from alx in there. You can send your number to be added there or send me your Whatsapp number so that I will send you the materials. |
learning22:You can reapply with another email |
