Mehn I open up this page early momo to see more horror stories, it is well.

We had a story here of a woman whose bag was searched thoroughly , as in in and out, ever scrap of paper was scrutinized, i cant remeber who it was but it was Nairaland pre-tsunami.

Per the phone search, I don't know the legal right for that, definitely feels like invasion of privacy, but when you want to enter another man country, na wetin your eye go see. At best you can fight the case later (if indeed it is a crime) but still, at that very point in time, you are at their mercy.

So this Chicago business...a friend of mine was delayed fr about 2 hours at Chicago, but she was eventually let in mainly because of the letter from the embassy.

I suspect that what is happening is that the POE guys are getting used to seeing that letter, so the person whey no get am, it will now be as if the person is hiding stuff. Meanwhile the letter is said to be optional, and there is no obligation to tell them blah blah...better safe than sorry.

Even the people that got the visa specifically for childbirth, it wont hurt to still get the letter.

Generally, I don't think there's any cause to fear sha. Lots of ppl hv also had great POE experiences at the same houston. Fear can make us make some irrational decisions that will cost us more eventually. Please be at peace and God will give us wisdom and guide us appropriately. I'm flying BA to houston and I'm at peace.

Summary: All was fine. I enjoyed the care rendered until after delivery. When the effect of the epidural had worn out, the pain from the tear arose. then i was told i had a 4th degree tear with a 3.58kg baby. the delivery was just badly managed.
i was already dealing with the pain when 2 weeks later, i started bleeding. i bled till i passed out, and the ambulance was called. rushed to the emergency, scan showed remnant of placenta tissue. and i had a d and c.
and life continued.

What! I'm so upset! 4th Degree tear with a 3.58kg baby, plus retained placenta!

Like freshface said, there is perineum guarding during labour, as medical students we were taught to diligently examine the placenta for completeness before discarding, if that placenta is not complete no one is going home for the day because of the repercussions of retained placenta...I don't even think this should happen in a Naija hospital.

this is definitely grounds for suing them.

I am so sorry about this, I am sure you just want to come home but still, please threaten to sue, even if it is just to get a reduction on the amount to pay, or for you to pay nothing at all!

I am just angry this early morning. Negligence at such a high cost to the victim...sad

I will like to inquire on how upgrades on a flight work. i will be using BA and I would like to request for an upgrade to world traveller Plus (premium economy) during the flight. Would I be required to pay extra cash? Or is the upgrade in this case done at the discretion of the flight attendants?

its both, you can pay upfront and guarantee the seat, or hope and pray that your flight attendant will be magnanimous. Also if the flight is full, free upgrades are more difficult to come by.

There's something I have noticed on this thread for some time that's not cool.I have noticed that some people are just tagging wherever the breeze blows them.From the beginning of the thread till now,some people have changed doctors and even hospitals 3 or 4 times.I am not saying this is bad cos I have seen people here who have genuine reasons here maybe cos of VBAC,CS or even price.Where I have issue with is someone who hears Dr A,collects details,tags along and then Dr B starts trending,they tag along as well and then we hear of Dr C and those same people are still interested. Some people here will continue to be indecisive no matter what happens but please if you are interested in 3 or 4 doctors,kindly do let the various people know via pm so that we don't open a new page and see that it doesn't have a single useful info.
NB-It's just my opinion.Please let nobody chew me raw

I don't think this matters at all. Apart from sharing info, this is a public forum where we have come to be "friends" of some sort.

As long as the thread is not being derailed, everyone has a right to share info / voice opinions.

You can always ignore irrelevant info to you, you never know when someone drops information that you would need.

There is no excuse for the anesthetist not showing up considering it was in your package, however the thing is that all these package deals that we are talking about here, it works best when everything goes fine. If anything goes wrong (like your pre-eclampsia showing up after delivery), then one feels the real impact of the American healthcare system.

Once again I commiserate with you, thank God everything went well,your baby is fine and your bills did not skyrocket to the tens of thousands...

I guess everyone has to sit down and make their own decisions weighing EVERYTHING - cost, accommodation, rating of the hospital, ratings of the doctor, nearby family e.t.c e.t.c

Like my husband, even though price is a consideration for us, he would always check the ratings of the hospital and the malpractice history of the doctor. These things are important too.

This cannot be right. Informing the embassy is a personal choice, it really is not the business of the airline, their own business is to transport you, they are not visa officers.

How will it work anyway, is it when you are about to fly that they will call the embassy?

The one of measuring, they have every right to do that if they believe you are too far gone and past their limit but if you are within their limits, and u have your supporting letter from your doc, you should be good to go.

@anonymousmum I asked and the lady told me that it's a promo they are running until the 29th of October I.e one has to book before then. Changes can be made but subject to fees depending on the change. Also, I immediately requested and booked for a bassinet for the journey back to lagos. I was asked to pay an additional 19k to secure an economy comfort seat which is where a bassinet can be used.

Omo, i hail you, fear no go gree me buy dis kain ticket...

But seriously guys, at the risk of pouring water on a sweet deal, please read the terms and conditions wella.

How much is it to modify itinerary on this particular class of ticket? Can you change dates easily, add an infant, etc etc?

Yes o. #teamsugarland #teamrichmond I will be staying in Sugarland so I am leaning towards Dr. Le, but Dr. Fagbohun's package seems clearer and cheaper.

However the distance from Richmond to Sugarland may wipe out the savings (transport et al) so will probably decide when I get there.

I think there's other people with similar plans e.g raii, kykes etc.

Hello dear I got ma visa last week, we had chose a date b4 hubby's office set dat same date 4 training. My son & I had 2 go alone. So he changed his date & will b doin his interview nxt month. D VO asked mi who will tk care of my son while i'm birthing anoda I simply told her dat i'll employ d services of a nanny & ma hubby will b there 2 assist b4 my due date. So I tink dat he can apply @ any time. I'll advise he goes early God forbid sha. If dem reject am he can always reapply again b4 u give birth.

If you got your visa way before you got pregnant and wrote to the embasy, he can apply ASAP.
Just didn't want that discrepancy of one stating she's going ALONE for birthing (and even claiming the hubby will be too busy at that time to accompany her), only for the hubby to come applying few weeks later. They might feel that wifey wasn't very honest during her interview. Its just better to play safe.

Times differ, you never know how soon or otherwise your appointment may end up being. So it's wise to get cracking and get the whole thing done with. And in the event (hopefully not) of a refusal there should get enough time to reapply....

You can get him to apply anytime. It doesn't matter but personaly I would say its Preferably now.... So you get an appointment date that may not be way after your edd..

Thanks madameU...do you mean appointment date as per at the embassy? I got mine in Lagos (about a year ago) in like 2 days. Does it take time like that?

- Did you get your visa solely for childbirth? If yes, were you asked if you will be travelling alone? What was your response?
If the above is in the affirmative, then wait to get to Houston before he applies. Ensure you scan your receipt of your payment to him. He should just say he's going to witness the birth of his child. They might ask if you've paid your bills. This is where the receipt comes into play.
They rarely deny them as long as your (the wife) records are clean.

I got my visa for regular visit, used it once last year, then decided to use it for childbirth this year.

Sent customary email to Lagos and Abuja embassy, got the regular response so I believe I am good to go, every other thing is clean.

Makes a lot of sense for me to reach there first and start paying the bills...I did not think of it that way.

Hello folks, I have a question this fine Saturday evening...

My husband does not have a US visa, and wants to apply, reason being to witness the birth of his child. His travel History - UK multiple times, and Dubai.

My concern is that, should he apply after I successfully land in the US (I will be travelling mid-Dec to Houston)?

Or should he apply now? i.e does it matter. In my mind, I feel he should apply after I get there but he thinks he can apply any time.

Decided to throw it to the house for your candid advice and useful wisdom as usual (no be washing )

Also i have noticed I only come here when I have question to ask, i know my sharp eyed people for dan notice, no vex o, I will try to change my ways and contribute more.

I have settled on either Dr Le (Houston Methodist Hospital in Sugarland) or Dr Fagbohun (Oakbbend Medical Centre, Richmond), and made all my ticket plans so I am just in waiting (and cash gathering!) mode, so I am just reading posts to keep up with things...

For those asking if they need UK transit visa when flying BA to usa, you are exempted if you are travelling to usa, Canada and new zealand.

St Nicholas does not charge anything for medical report & fitness to fly. I can attest to that. Just tell your gynae what you want so he's aware coz he has to sign it and the send an email to their records departement. Its free. They will even scan your entire file for you and send you soft copy if you specifically ask for that. You don't need a printout of your ultrasounds for dr huynh, a scanned copy will do.

Lol, not a chance. Simple print out of my first scan, they said no, the hospital charged me 1k.

But really, just thinking about it o, the HMO should be happy to pay for it because if I stay back in Nigeria, they will be picking up the heftier bill of the entire delivery.

Tvegas: We use St Ives and that hospital can bill for Africa,Cost of delivery is N320k,with that amount wife can birth in Alabama. St Nicholas cant be that high.

Reddington is like 1milla for the total package of ANC and delivery. I dont know how much it is for St. Nicholas because I am under HMO.

I sign for about 30k at each ANC visit sha (consultation and meds)

With regard to the medical records, the contents of your records is your property, however the actual documentation i.e your case file, and the test results is the property of the hospital and they can charge any amount for copies to be made.

Medical report (a one-pager ) from LUTH / other general hospitals is 15k.

Like Tvegas said, ur leaving them is a loss of income for them.

I use St Nicholas and I am just waiting for a hefty bill when I want to request for all these docs, wetin man go do.
