No fewer than 8 people have been killed in two separate attacks lunched by Fulani militias in Benue state.

It was gathered that the sad development occured Iye village, in Uvir council ward, along Daudu-Gbajimba road and branch Udei, around Yelwata axis in Guma local government areas of Benue State.

The herders had earlier issued a threat to the Tse Torkula community, asking them to leave the village or face dire consequences, an eyewitness account said.

The eyewitness further narrated that the militias came on motorcycles and without any herd of cattle, they started shooting sporadically into the air before breaking into the houses of their victims who were already fast asleep.

The sad development was confirmed in a statement by the security Adviser to the governor, Col. Paul Hemba retd,.

He said that eight people were murdered, stating that, “Six people were killed in Iye village along Daudu/Gbamjinba road. It happened in the early hours of this morning (Thursday) at branch Udeyen, close to the water in Yelwata. Two other people were also killed.”

This is coming barely 48 hours after suspected Fulani militia killed over five persons in the Ahentse, Nzorov council ward in same local government and wounded many.

salemgists gathered that the attack took place at Fumigi Street, Ungwan Galadima, Gonin Gora, Chikun Local Government Area of the State.

The ugly development was confirmed in a statement released by the state chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. John Joseph Hayab.

According to him, the attack went on for about an hour without disturbance by security operatives, adding that those killed by the bandits are Aminu Bege and his son, as well as a neighbour.

A source at the scene of the incident stated that there were gunshots all over the place.

He said that the bandits operated freely and left with their abductees. He said:

“The bandits are now killing their victims in order to put fear in the people.”

Kebbi state Deputy Governor, Col Yombe Dabai (Rtd) escapes death, following bandits attack on his Convoy.

The deputy governor’s convoy was attacked along Kanya village in Danko/Wassagu local government, salemgists learnt.

The ugly development was disclosed I’m a statement by the Special Adviser to Kebbi state Governor on Security matters, Rabiu Kamba.

Kamba stated that the Deputy Governor was visiting areas affected by bandits activities in the state when his convey ran into a large number of bandits operating in Kanya community.

He said the bandits were robbing shops and rustling cattle in the surrounding villages in Danko/Wasagu including Kanya, adding that the deputy governor was traveling with military personnel who decided to intervene and helped the villagers who were being harassed by the bandits and in the process a fierce gun battle ensued.

He said, “some of the soldiers attached to the deputy governor lost their lives in the battle as the camp of the bandits also suffered heavy casualty,” he added that the “Deputy governor was whisked away from the battle ground and he is hale and hearty without sustaining any injury.”

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a notorious drug dealer at Nukai market, along Jalingo-Wukari road in the Taraba state capital, Jalingo, Micha Godwin, during which the anti-narcotic officers came under attack and at least seven of them were injured and one of their vehicles damaged.

Despite the attack, the officers however managed to arrest their target after recovering some quantities of illicit drugs from the suspect and thereafter retreated to take the wounded to the hospital for treatment.

Following intelligence, the operatives on Tuesday 8th March stormed the market at about 2.30pm to arrest the drug dealer and evacuate illicit substances in his warehouse. Soon after the arrest of Micha, miscreants mobilised from the community to attack the officers and vehicles with dangerous weapons.

A reinforcement from the state Command of the Agency and other security agencies was able to move in to rescue the operatives from the scene of attack.

In custody, the drug dealer said what happened today is bad because this is the second time I have been arrested and brought here but the first arrest was not like this. I dont know who invited the boys who attacked the NDLEA officers

Reacting to the incident, Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) condemned the attack and directed immediate switch to new operational guidelines that will make officers and men well positioned to defend themselves adequately in the course of carrying out their duties. He again warned that henceforth any obstruction or attack on NDLEA operatives in line of duty by suspects or their supporters would receive commensurate response.

A lady, Miss Oluwabamise Ayanwole, who went missing after boarding a Lagos Bus Rapid Transit vehicle, has been found dead.

The sad development has been confirmed in a statement by one of the 22-year-old’s relatives on Monday, March 7.

She said, "We are at the morgue. We have confirmed the corpse.”

Salemgists learnt from sources that her corpse was dropped on Lagos Island by a BRT vehicle and a jeep.

Upon sighting the corpse by the roadside, an unknown man reportedly informed officials of Ebute Ero Police Station on Saturday evening.

The corpse was later taken to the Mainland Hospital mortuary, according to reports.

The relatives added, “An autopsy will be carried out to confirm if any part of her body is missing.”

President Muhammadu Buhari jets out from Abuja to London, UK for his medical trip on Sunday, March 6.

Last month, Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, had said Buhari would visit his doctor in London for “routine medical checks that will last for a maximum of two weeks”.

A young man identified as Henry Ehiz was found dead in the early hours of Wednesday, March 2nd, 2022.

Henry who is a 300 level student of Actuarial Science in University of Jos was discovered dead with a suicide note beside him.

An eyewitness at the scene of the incident told salemgists that the deceased wrote the suicide note before carrying out the act.

The suicide note which was left by Henry was addressed to his family where he expressed his love for them and bid them farewell.

As at the time of this report, what triggered the suicide is still unknown as it was not stated in the suicide note.

Angry mob reportedly burnt two suspected robbers to ashes along the Onitsha-Owerri Road in Anambra state.

Salemgists learnt that the robbers who were operating in a tricycle attempted to dispose a lady of her valuables at gunpoint when an angry mob caught and descended heavily on them.

The angry mob set the two robbers ablaze at Romchi Transport Park along the ever-busy road on Thursday, March 3.

An eyewitness at the scene of the incident said that the robbers have been using tricycles to carry out robbery attacks on unsuspecting victims on the road for quite some days now.

He said three robbers were apprehended, while two were set ablaze, the remaining one managed to escape through a nearby bush.

The eyewitness said:

“For some days now, a robbery gang has been using tricycle to rob unsuspecting passengers, pretending to be tricycle operators. They would pick passengers from Upper Iweka going to Oba and in the middle of the journey, they would dispossess their victims of their belongings at gunpoint and push them out.

“Luck ran out of these ones today as they brought out a gun and were trying to dispossess their passenger, a lady, of her handbag, phone, and other items, she shouted, it was her shout that attracted people to the scene. The three of the robbers were apprehended, while two were set ablaze, one managed to escape through a nearby bush.”

The development was confirmed in a statement released by the PPRO Anambra State Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu Anipr.

He said Police Operatives have recovered a tricycle, handbag and infinix phone that was allegedly dispossessed from the female victim by hoodlums.

He stated:

“Upon police arrival, angry mob had already set 3 out of the hoodlums ablaze and the fourth person escaped. Meanwhile, Police operatives are already on ground and efforts are emplace to bring normalcy to the area and possibly to apprehend the fleeing gang member.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police CP Echeng Echeng frowns at such act thanked the members of the public for assisting the Police in apprehending suspected criminals also urged them to always exercise restraint by not taking the law into their hands.

They should endeavour to take such suspects to the nearest Police Station whenever they are apprehended. This would afford the Police the opportunity to conduct appropriate investigation into the nefarious activities of the suspects; and bring them to justice in accordance with extant laws.”
