Greetings all,
Please i need your advice on the below:

I got married to my wife who happens to live and work in UK..She has her bristish passport too. she is currently making plans for me to join her in UK but the issue now is that she is heavily pregnant and we cannot meet up with the travel requirement that she has to earn £18,600 per year. I have no idea with the traveling things. Please i need your advice on what to do please or best way to go about it..please.
NOTE: She earns less than £18,600 per year. she has rented her apartment. What should we do..pls
Congrats on the baby. However, as much as I don’t know too much about the process, I think the £18,6 is a major rule and it has worsened with the fact that she’s preggy, because now you need £22,4 or so. An alternative would be for her to save up to £16k, in her account (I think).

There’s another way I read about, where she can emigrate to another European country then have you visit her while she’s working there then after 3 months or more, you and your family will emigrate to the UK without wahala. If she doesnt earn up to the £25k due to the baby, and your own savings cant also reach that sum, then the emigration way might be a better option.

This is the situation i was referring to before, he needs a letter from the landlord and co-occupants since the bills are shared.
Your response is much appreciated. I will tell him to get the letter from his landlord

Anyway congrats to the people that have gotten their Yes’s. God bless your new beginning immensely.

@Aphrodite007 My case is quite similar to yours. When my hubby wanted to put up his application this year, I got a 2 bedroom with my younger sister and the rent and bills was shared between us and we had both our names on virtually all documents related to the house but i was made the lead tenant. She only wrote a letter of consent that she is aware my husband was coming and it was very okay with her for him to live with us. I called a company to carry out a housing inspection with a supporting certificate or letter from them and i provided all my sisters details required in the application form. We got no letter from the agent or Landlord.
Thank you so much. I have munched this already for hubby. I really appreciate.

My heart goes out to you. I just can’t imagine myself in your situation right now. I would just be crying, the distance is not easy at all.

Anyway I think the decision is solely yours to take and not the house’s. If you’re willing to risk losing that £1500 then why not, submit the certs and see. However, If it’s a huge amount to lose, then you should reconsider. Maybe hubby can return to Nigeria and redo another wedding with you (it won’t cost so much if he is of Nigerian descent but if he is white, lol God will provide, those Abuja registry people wanted to use us and do money-making venture!)

So think deep, pray and decide, but remember, peter walked on water (nothing beyond God).

@justwise and house, I am seriously confused if I and hubby should go ahead with submitting of our UK spouse visa application this week because of our local government issued marriage certificate and church certificate. Hubby is currently in UK and all this is sooo confusing especially since we have been putting documents together all through the year and finally ready for submission huh

You might have added that and got your visa because you saw other people who did, however many did not add it and still get their visas.

If i'm renting 1 or 2 bedroom flat and paying all my bills why would i need to ask the landlord if my wife can live with me?

If my rent is bills inclusive or in case of multiple occupant accommodation then i will need a letter from my landlord because additional person will increase the bills.
Ok please help me get clarity on this case @justwise. My hubby stays with his besty in a 2 bedroom duplex and their bills are exclusive and shared between both of them. Do I still need a letter from his agency stating that I can stay with him?

Its good that you raised this issue because i also wanted to find out if British embassy rejects marriage certificate issued by local govt.

@lamakinde can you explain that?
I think I read it somewhere that the embassy doesn’t recognise local government marriage certs. It’s might have been under this topic or elsewhere. Regardless, if the federal republic of Nigeria doesn’t recognise weddings conducted by the LGs (because they have been labelled unfit to conduct marriage ceremonies by the govt) then I don’t think it’s safe to assume that the UK would recognise the LG certs.

Lamakinde:
I concur. Thanks.
Hi @lamakinde i re did my application and was able to sort out my IHS, for some reason, I filled out a part of the form that I wasn’t meant to, seeing as my spouse is a citizen. That is what incurred the £2603. When I refilled the form, I got a fee of £650 or so for my IHS. Just wanted to give you feedback and extend my gratitude to everyone. If not for this forum I would have made my hubby pay such a ridiculous amount.

It pays to read carefully. lol. Cheers

Thanks so much I really appreciate I will get on with this now and ask questions later and do I need to take d English test? So I can get that out of the way before the application is ready.. or what do u suggest.
I did a master’s in the uk, so I don’t need to take the test, but the test is very important. You can go the NARIC way if you have a Nigerian degree or take the IeLts life test (I think it’s called). Please scroll back 3 pages and read from there someone mentioned the tests and another mentioned the method with NARIC. Some gentle man even posted a way to get your transcrip faster if you scroll up my response a bit.

I would implore you to go back at least 10 pages from this, to see what you can gather.

Feel free to post questions, even if I might not be of much help, someone will.
TravelRe: UK Spouse Visa/Appeal Process-part2 by Aphrodite007(f):

That is easier for me. Ask as many questions. He members here would pick anyone they can answer and answer it for you. But to start from the beginning and advice what to do is just quite complicated.

Google VAF Appendix 2 and fill the form. When you’re done, then go here, https://www.gov.uk/apply-uk-visa scroll to then end and create an account. Then log into your account and fill it. When I’m back at work, I will copy and paste my list of supporting documents, so that you can make yours similar.

Also you need to get a sponsor letter/introduction letter where your sponsor will explain how you met and how they have been visiting you.

Gather up some photos of both of you Cos you need them. Gather up a few of your chats on WhatsApp, bbm, whatever and wherever App you chat on- (I munched a few of mine at least 4 screen shots per month, I munched my whatsapp call log too as proof, then packed plenty kissy photos and my wedding photos for them).

At the moment, my hubby is trying to get a letter from his office stating his salary and how long he has worked for them, then he will also try and get a document from his agency about the house. He has all his payslips and would get his statement of account few days before sending the documents to Sheffield.

Just ask questions when you’re confused.

I believe you should use the name on your passport and documents, though you could include the publication showing a change of name which you are yet to effect on your passport. Is it your IHS that summed up to $2603 or your visa fees?
I can remember someone paying $600 plus for IHS when she did hers before mine on this forum and I ended up been charged $816, I don't know their criteria for how much they charge.
When you fill your forms online, you can leave one with errors if you are yet to pay your visa fees, it will clear off your page in like three months or so and won't get to UKVI.
I abandoned the one of Settlement - Marriage because it didn't give me the option to pay for IHS then.
I really appreciate your response. It was just the IHS o, I want to believe that it’s an error or somewhat, Cos it was unbelievable . I will redo my application meticulously. Thanks a lot again.

Hi @Aphrodite007... pls I don't know if you or any nairalander that has submitted their application for a settlement visa can be kind enough to walk me through mine... all these lawyers out there are as good making a donation to charity if you go through them. I will really appreciate it. Thanks
I actually wanted to help but how to start is the problem. Normally, members would ask you to start reading from the first page. Even though this might be mean, it has got its perks because you will get to see lots of mistakes and learn not to make them. But I think it would be nice to write down a fresh process.

I don’t think I can help much as I’m also starting an application like you. But I will write down the preliminary information when I can.

I will still advise you to read from the beginning.

good morning good people,i am filling the VAF4A Form just came across the this question

1.do you and your sponsor have any shared financial responsibilities? see the screenshot please am i to provide evident for this? if i a
m what evidence will be required?
2. does anyone other than your sponsor live in the property? the answer to this is yes my wife stays in a 3 bedroom flat with
2 other flatmate ,they have given her the names and age but might not be willing to give their passport number is this a problem
3. Going by the thread and the mistake made as under category settlement i am the husband( applicant )here and my wife is over there( sponsor)-is the right entry settlement-husband since am the one going to join her

just want to be clear and want to get it right ,my questions might look foolish but i had rather ask stupid questions than go through the stress.
No, you don’t share any responsibilities unless you have kids.

It’s ok. I have figured it out. So happy! However I’m still curious about how my IHS was $2603. I picked settlement-settlement-wife.

I had this issue while filling my application online so I left that one to fill another one. I did settlement - marriage initially then later did another one of settlement - husband as the right one because the first one didn't take me to IHS payment which I learnt was needed. I paid $1918 while IHS was $816.
Hi Lamakinde, I was honestly hoping for a smooth ride with my application after reading up everything under this topic from the very first page but I still have a lot of questions. One of them concerns the IHS.

Now I got my masters in the UK so I’m quite familiar with the IHS, however after filling my form on the IGS page, I was prompted to pay $2603 which is just ridiculous! Worse still, it’s not letting me undo/redo just incase I might have picked a wrong option somewhere. Kindly advise on how I can undo this or start a new application (it’s not even letting me do this!).

Also if you can answer in the name that I am meant to use for my application. I’m a lady, I got married recently, he is a British citizen. My passport and documents carry my maiden name, should I just continue with it or use my marriage name (I have the newspaper publication to prove my change of name).

Please I really need help!

Oh and thanks to the ever so kind people that keep this group going, God bless all of you immensely for all your advice.
