Gost65:The uk tries to ascertain a few things, amongst which include: 1) they want to know that you will not resort to public funds. How can you make them believe that you won’t recourse to public funds when recession affected your education in the US. How do you convince them that that same recession won’t affect you again? 2) they want to know that you will leave when you’re meant to leave the UK. How can you make them believe that you will leave when you refused to leave the US by the specified time? Why should they believe that you will obey their laws when you couldn’t obey that of the US? 3) they want to ensure that you aren’t an economic migrant. How can you convince them that you truly want to study and not just make money? After all, you couldn't have overstayed in the US doing nothing, you most likely overstayed cos you were working somehow. These visa officers are humans, so try to put yourself in their shoes. If you can address these issues, maybe you will have a successful application. |
Bourne007:Oh. I didn’t know tier 4 dependent was a different ball game. I just assumed that anything that has to do with joining a spouse is affiliated with the spouse visa. |
Bourne007:Hi. I’m not sure UK banks stamp on every page. They are credible enough. So all he has to do is print the statement and send it off to Sheffield alongside the other docs. My bank is Barclays and they even had a self service till for statements, when I asked them to stamp on it in time, they politely declined. |
Guccigucci:Apologies! I forgot to put the link: https://www.nairaland.com/823869/uk-spouse-visa-appeal-process-part2/343 |
Guccigucci:Oh hi, deep apologies, I might have missed the question. if this is for a visit visa Sending it via post to her would make it more authentic. (This is me assuming that you’re in the UK and she is in Nigeria. If you are in Nigeria, you don’t need to send that to her for a visit visa, it will be scanned at the Visa Office). If, however, this is for a spouse visa, no dear. Please keep your statement and all other documents that are from you. She is the one that’s meant to send everything she has to you (by post), then you will attach the remaining documents to hers and send all to Sheffield, ok? This is the thread for spouse visa, I advise you to start reading from page 320 or 330 so that you are well informed before you start asking questions. https://www.nairaland.com/823869/uk-spouse-visa-appeal-process-part2/330 I hope this helps. |
kolly4gunn:Ok so this. Look for schools that offer the course you intend to do. Pick 5 schools that have 60% acceptance rate and above. Mail these schools’ administrators to ask if you can apply with a HND. kindly put your response here to help people that may have a similar problem. Oh and I hope your GP is strong o, Cos I’m very aware that some unis tell HND students to start from third year in BSc before master’s. |
LagosismyHome: ![]() Ok now I understand the logic. I forgot to switch the steering to the right when I put the passenger close to the curb in my head. It makes sense now. Maybe I just won’t bother driving before I kee person! Abeg! ![]() |
Hayzed212:You’re welcome. Don’t feel bad about his response, tbh, I don’t know how he does it Cos I see some questions and I flip but he calmly answers those people. He had prolly had enough when he replied you, ok, just let it slide. Yes I understand what you mean by carrying everything. Nothing is stopping you from doing that, you can if the payslips are readily available and if you aren’t invadinf the persons privacy to get them. But provided it’s for a tier 4 visa, they wouldn’t care about payslips as this could be some sort of savings. In my application, I put self-sponsored all through and then showed them my account statement, nobody asked me how the money got there or why an unemployed person had so much money. So just relax ok. |
LagosismyHome:I think you made a mistake. UK driving sits the Driver by the curb, not the front passenger. It’s naija/US (normal) driving that sits the passenger by the curb. |
kolly4gunn:Google “list Of US Universities that can accept HND for master’s” You’re most welcome. |
TWoods:Alright, thanks a lot. I’m not so accustomed to funding checks/searches in the US, but I feel it should be similar to the UK where you have the information you need on the website of the school or can just check at jobs.ac.uk (this website isn’t effective for funding in the US). Basically, what I’m asking is if searching for what I want on the Uni’s website will be effective? (US Uni websites always suffer from information overload , most times I resort to finding what I need about a US Uni on google! ). Again, thanks for your response! |
imperiouxx:Haha! Funding/Fellowship/Grant it is- can’t be getting our vocab wrong, can we?! Thanks for your response. |
omoluabiguy:Thank you so much. I’m more confident now. ![]() |
Time2Smile:Oh thank you so much- this is so detailed! I have and can gain access to most of your stated requirements. And yes, google is a very good friend of mine, we go way bck! Thank you so much again! I have hopes on 2020, so I have time to gather. |
femi312:Hi, @Ezeigbo1ofImo @time2smile and anyone that can help. Wow I had no idea that STEM students could get a PhD Scholarship in America, I’m utterly impressed by that! I can so relate to the pain of paying for studies while everyone is on a scholarship- We were 6 in class and I was the only one that paid a tuition, it was so painful! I have been silently considering a PhD in the US mostly Cos my field of computing (cultural computing/user studies) is more acknowledged in the US than the UK. So do you guys think someone with a 2.2 and merit (BSc & MSc respectively) would be considered for a scholarship. That BSc result makes me not even bother with scholarships at all, and I was honestly preparing to pay the PhD tuition until I saw your comments. God bless you guys plenty. |
justwise:Im telling you! I have realised that people going to study, most times do so Cos they just want to leave Nigeria and see studying as a pathway (to be honest, I don’t blame them, Nigeria is just hard!) Before my application, The excitement alone made me learn almost everything I needed to know about my school, the county, bus routes, trekking time to school from my accommodation, big cities around my county, the weather/temperature, the airport and transportation arrangements from the airport! Funny enough, I was asked all these during my interview. This is why it annoys me when people don’t do their own research but are going for a master’s/PhD, you will now wonder how will intend to cope with assignments (that rely on research). The US thread is the most annoying as some students even ask for courses they can apply for/study as a master’s! ![]() Don’t get me wrong, I love nairaland and I love that people are patient and ready to answer questions, I myself am very happy to help with my limited knowledge but it kind of helps to know that the person you’re helping is also helping themselves too. |
Hayzed212:No. I didn’t use any payslips. While filling your application form, they will ask what your folks do, provided they are working and can afford such an amount (even if they saved it for years), it will fly. Nobody asked me for payslips. Even letter from my dad sef, I didn’t carry. My birth cert didn’t even have my folks names on it. So just claim your dad gave it to you if you are asked (doubt you will be, but what do I know!) |
justwise:Yes I concur with this. I wasn’t working and I had what was left after paying the tuition and accommodation. They didn’t query how I got such an amount even though I wasn’t working then. |
Tamzwillie01:The UK is simple. Pay the full tuition and you won’t have credibility problems. You guys are lucky that you even have nairaland (God bless the founder and the mods), I didn’t have anyone to help with mine so I did everything myself but paid the full tuition and accommodation for a year (dumb move yeah but I had no one to advise me otherwise). My interview was like me gisting with a friend and in 8 working days I got my passport back (didn’t do priority, didn’t even know what it meant) then left 2 days after. I read the advise and suggestions on this thread and I cringe knowing fully well that I didn’t do half of them. Which made me come to the conclusion that UK visa is the easiest visa to get. Just relax and sound confident. Speak like you love your course (which you should) and keep telling them how your knowledge of the course can help Nigeria (I think this can help). |
justwise:Lol, not to worsen the case but I really don’t like it when people as basic questions. It’s worse knowing that he moved to the uk but doesn’t even know where to get the preliminary info from. What’s more weird is that the person might be doing a Research -intensive course (PhD or Master’s). Oh well! |
Tamzwillie01:Once you’ve been denied a visa, even if the super is raised to the power of 10, They will treat the application as regular because they have to investigate your refusal. a lot of people seem to have problems with their oral interview, I don’t know how it’s done now but mine was via skype, she asked me why I wanted my course, why my school and where I was going to live. At some point in the convo she was really laughing at my responses, Cos they were funny to her. So first tip is to relax, this is a school you wanted, this is a course you wanted (not your mum or dads choice) and I’m sure you have investigated where you will live and the distance to school, so answer calmly, speak slowly but fluently and smile (don’t show teeth). Second tip is to investigate as much as you can,l about the course, the school and the environment, it makes them see your passion and genuineness. I hope this helps you. |
LaaJiblik:True |
justwise: when countries like Ireland, France and Canada give you one to two years post study, UK added two months to the 4 month initial limit (for selected schools o) and are proud of themselves - it’s not their fault!Ok, as they have increased the stay, will they reduce the restriction on employing international students? So the two extra months is for the student to continue their retail or care job for longer? Silly country! Don’t know why students still bother schooling in the uk. If I had known better, I would have waited patiently for Canada. |
emyemconcepts:There’s no need for that because the man that disowned his family just to be able to stay in the uk cannot help your friend unless your friend is UNDER 18. If the son changes his age just so his “dad” can help him out, or the “Dad” suddenly gets reunited with his family, the UKBA most likely will not believe the story and could deny the visas. But he can try and come back and tell us what happened. |
fatima04:lol, when I was in school, I couldn’t even cross the road or ride my bike without shouting apologies at people for riding on the wrong side or crossing without looking . |
Hi everyone. Thanks for your I put. I have high hopes of my brother schooling on the US by 2018, but we have been having problems getting his transcript (for his application) from UniBen. So can anyone please advise on a way to go about this? I really hate federal universities, they make things so difficult. |
timesup234:Smh! It’s only kids that argue this way. We are talking about a country that offers security, certainty, light, livelihood, medical care with empathy and this one is talking of car! As in, car! Damn, I admire your level of intelligence boss. I hail! |
mcstan18:Tbh, I think everyone should just ignore him. I understand people wanting to promote nigeria as a good place to stay, but to compare it with developed countries is just out of place. Like someone advised him, if he cares so much for Nigeria, he should start a thread for youths to gather and work towards better governance, unless he is too daft to realise that Nigeria lacks good governance. I love intelligent arguments but his is just plain dumb. So I would advise that no one responds to him! |
stealthtiger:Like you said, he is an IT guy in the UK, I’m sure he will answer better, but this is my own answer: 1) python and JavaScript are great languages, I have a personal preference for python (I am allergic to gibberish). But the most jobs I see are more incline to C and java. 2) yeah I have heard of azure and I think cloud computing is quite good. It’s not specially tied to a job title, as this is a skill (probably just a cloud computing expert). Some jobs do request for knowledge of azure. I’ll advise you like someone did, the best thing to do is to look for IT jobs in the uk that you would love to do and then try to match your skills to their requirements. If you want to become a developer/programmer, search for the job title and look through the requirements of the ones that come up. Jot down the skills you lack and work towards acquiring them. I hope this helps P.S: how to go about it is to search for free online IT schools that can teach you the skill you need. I think there are some free ones such as Udemy, even YouTube. You can learn whatever you want online, all you have to do is search for it. |
Chevronstaff:A job in IT that pays higher will solely depend on your desire to constantly develop yourself. It’s IT- it’s everchanging; there’s absolutely no safe net. I studied MSc IS, and till date, it’s one of the best things that has happened to me. It’s a mixture of business knowledge, HR knowledge and IT knowledge. My job is to make, manage and upgrade systems and processes so as to solve problems in an organisation. My background is in Computing so I wouldn’t have picked finance and IM as that would need an accounting/audit/finance background. In summary, it’s your choice what you want to study; If finance is your strength, F&IM will be perfect, if Computing and analysis is your strength, IS will be perfect. |
imconfused:Hi. Been reading this thread and I really like your input. Concerning your interest in IT, I will advise you to enrol for an ECDL class (European Computer(/ing) Drivers License, or so). It covers the basics of MS Office and would test you on what you’ve learned. This way you have your basics in check. Whether or not you want a career in Computing, this will give you an advantage at work. The Comptia trinity is meant for people that want to go in-depth into IT, it helps to have a passion for IT first. A+ is for Computing architecture and covers knowledge of how to fix hardware problems (opening of your laptop/desktop and software/hardware diagnostics). N+ is for basic networking. (It’s not as lucrative as it once was but the knowledge would still be good). S+ Is for security (which is currently one of the most lucrative parts of Computing). You must not learn a language, however having basic knowledge of one is good (it’s like a doctor having knowledge of first-aid application/procedure). I hope this helps. Apologies for derailing the thread. |
yow17:Wow big congrats. |
. Although uk has more manual cars than auto and manual are slightly cheaper
