£25k salary is small. About 10 years ago I started on £28k and that wasn't even considered great then. His/her statement was not out of place.

Graduate jobs are 24k. A reputable company offered me 26k as a graduate staff. I have friends that earned 17k now they are on 35-44. My first job in the UK was 22k (3 years ago) but now, omo!

So no, 28k is a good salary when you’re starting. Let’s learn to be grateful and to build from small to big.

please can you help me out with the this info. i want to apply for jobs in uk as an embryologist too. pease information regarding this will be so much appreciated.

Our elders say if you beat a child with your left hand, you bring them close with your right hand. My lovely thread mates have done the job of the left hand, which I wholly support (especially as JW told you to read backwards), but now, I’ll do the job of the right hand.

Firstly, Chris was right, if you think 25k is too small, best not to come. Min wage is 19800.

Secondly, You can google cities around Manchester centre and write down those names, then google “rent homes in *city*” to check if that city is affordable for you. Keep doing this until you find your preferred city. I’ll add that you should also check transportation links from work to your choice home (google maps), to make sure you can easily get to work.

Thirdly, bringing your family is up to you, but personally, I don’t advise this. Come first and experience it first, before you move your family. If you don’t even know the minimum wage in the UK and think 25k is too small, it means that you have a lot to learn about the UK and settling in may be hard with a family.

I started from the graduate entrepreneurship ( now startup visa), for which I had to get developed a business plan and have it endorsed by my Uni.
Then visa, business development, monthly progress reports to the uni. Then endorsement for extension, followed by visa, business development, monthly updates with the uni.

The graduate entrepreneurship (startup visa) was for 2 years. Before I switched to the T1 general.

Docs required/used

Proof of business activities
Proof of business registration
Proof of maintenance
Proof of investments
Reference letter from university
Company accounts
Share certificates
Etc
Etc

Can't recall the whole list

Nice one. Thanks. Sorry about the typos, I spell so badly when I’m multitasking or in a hurry.

I guess that that reference letter from a uni will be optional, because not everyone is a student. Cheers

And when wahala starts its only you that will carry that cross. What worked for someone few years ago might not work in 2021 .however when the advice is made it doesn't factor that the system is changing as well to be more equipped

For example HMRC now has a "better" real time PAYE reporting for employers , making it much harder to work under the table. HMRC has also implemented better system to match your earnings with NI and that info is accessible during visa renewal

Omo!! You know funny enough this is the reason I steer clear advising students, because things were different then, if I say something and they enter trouble, I’ll now be the enemy.

Boss come and put me through the T1. I’ve been planning to do it before the end of the year. I’ve read up what I need to know, but just to hear from someone that’s done it. Did you have to join an accelerator (I’ve forgotten what they are called, an example is Barclays) or were you helped out by your uni? Did you have to show tax papers and company docs? Etc

Hi all, need your suggestions/advice

also, because of the huge cost of applying for 3 children with hubby's flr m, we have decided to apply for just his. the children are still in nigeria.
is it possible for them to apply with him when applying for ILR instead? and what application will that be please? ilr or settle as a dependant.

because to us, application for them when he applies for Ilr will save us paying 2x for application (2.5yrs then ilr) and the huge health surchage fee.

advice please.
thanks

Standing ovation for you. I like people with financial understanding. As far as the kids are safe in Nigeria, leave them there for now and bring them later. It doesnt matter when they want to apply. If the dad has ILR, and there’s a birth certificate showing that he is their dad, they can join anytime when you’re financially able to.

By His Grace, you both may even have the money to bring them even before the ILR. He is lucky to have a wife like you that understands priorities.

Good afternoon all, What happens after paying for visa and ihs fees, are there other fees to pay before doing biometrics?

I like you, you have plenty money. After spending on visa and ihs, you still want to spend. Please do give away for us.

The answer will depend on the visa. If you’re in Nigeria, you’ll pay your flight and anointing oil for prayers. If in UK, no shaking.

who told that tier4 student cant be self employed.
students on 2 year Master course with PLACEMENT year nko?

I know how many people University themselves don sponsor for self employed I dont want to mention.

Dont know why we black people are full of discouragement.

u a will always look for a way to tackle and find fault not to appreciate a good idea.

You are a very interesting person. I’ve been reading your comments, and I initially thought to hold my tongue (abi fingers), but you’ve gone a bit too far.

It’s ok if you want to encourage people. Please do. But don’t stop others from sounding warnings to the person. Your own is to give your advice, then leave others to give theirs.

Btw, you’re right, nothing stops a student from being self employed. I was self employed in uni, but under an umbrella company. If a student wants to then be self employed on their own, that’s risky, however, I like experience being the best teacher. Just so you know, Your bank can call up anytime and ask for company papers and tax docs. Then you’re exposing yourself as a student to HMRC. But what do we know, you know pass us.

About paying 50% then coming to study in the UK. I had a friend who did this. He worked every damn day. He still couldn’t come up with the money to complete his fees which I ended up lending him a huge amount, then he paid back. What if your friend doesn’t have someone to lend them?

But please ignore us, we are the busy bodies that are discouraging others.

I think you need to have less than 6months to be able to renew it but then again Nigeria and rules is not 5 and 6.

Not anymore. My sister had like a year on hers and applied for a new one to allow her travel. They perforate the old one, so it doesn’t matter to them if it’s still valid for a year or more.

Yes you should dear. You told the electoral roll that you live in Oxford. Then you moved to London. Shey you should correct the electoral roll?

If you do, you’ll be able to vote in London, and your credit file will have your current address.

My passport has 6 months validity and I have a valid visa on it. Can I renew it b4 leaving Nigeria? I have not travelled to the UK with d visa but will like to renew it b4 travelling. Is it possible?

Can you renew what? The visa or the passport?

Visa? You’re free to. It’s your money.

Passport? My dear, valid passport is hard to find these days, just renew and save yourself the headache. Still your choice anyway.

No, you basically have to be traveling with two passports until the visa expires

When I returned to the UK with my new passport that had a different name from my visa, they didn’t even ask me for my old one. Dunno why, maybe oversight. But you’re right, it’s safe to travel with the two.

Someone has a visa that is due to expire in August and the passport will expire in July. If the passport is renewed, is there any need to get a revalidation of the visa form the UK high commission?
The plan is to renew the passport in the coming weeks.

No, just submit the new passport. I don’t even know what revalidation means, but you don’t need that. You’ll be asked to upload your passport and then you include the old one if you like.

well,I mean like getting a job in it kinda thing or probably if there is a job market for it in the UK

Yes there’s a job market. It’s a big one because Software compares need UXDs or interactive Designers.

But getting a part time job to meet your 20 hours may not be easy, however it’s doable. An easy way to build your portfolio is to freelance on fiverr. My worry is how you’ll declare your work hours to hmrc which is why working as a freelancer while a student is messy.

There are other ways of proving a couple live together... Bills are important as a means of ID and part what is required for FLR and ILR application etc.

Now, the issue of having joint names on the council tax bill. It is a choice really - sometimes, it is hard add multiple names to the bill itself but declaring all those that live in the property is another.

Usually, a dependant spouse or those on spousal visa have no recourse to public funds, in essence they get nothing from the government and the host/sponsor loses his or her 25% single occupancy rebate. Choices!

But the host is not single if they are married, so why lie?

Yes you may not be caught unless your visa requires that documentation to prove that the couple live together, but why lie? How much is it that you want to save by lying?

Council tax has nothing to do with immigration status. It doesn't influence your visa application.

Fail to pay your council tax and they will send the bailiffs after you. They are very quick and waste no time.
https://moneyaware.co.uk/2018/10/what-happens-if-i-dont-pay-my-council-tax/

Infact, your council tax is more important than your gas and electricity bill. Council tax pays for waste collection, roads, schools, public amenities, etc.

You can decide to have either or both names or none at all on the council tax letter. Totally up to you.

What matters to the council is the money they get from EACH address. Which is why even empty properties are subject to council tax unless you apply for a waiver and the council decides to grant it.

Council tax is not paid per person that lives at a property. It is a tax on EACH address irrespective of the number of adults or children living at the address. Students and under 16 (I believe) are exempted from council tax and if you live alone, you are eligible for a 25% discount.

Paying council tax and being on the electoral roll are two different things. You can be named on the electoral roll and not on the council tax bill and vice versa. Adding your name to the council tax and adding a name to the electoral roll are two different applications. You can decide to do neither or either or both. What matters to the council is that they get their money (tax) from every address from the named person on the council tax account.

If you noticed I said “some” councils, when I commented about the electoral roll. In my previous council, I added myself to the electoral roll but wasn’t yet on the council tax. In this new council that I live in, they didn’t add me to the electoral roll yet, until it went through the council for confirmation that I live in my house. Ergo, if i hadn’t told the council that I lived here (CTax), they may have bounced my electoral roll application. The message I got after applying for the ER, was that my council would confirm to me if I’ve been added or not.

That being said, for people on spousal visas, they may need to add the two names to the CTax, not just for having joint bills, but because CTax gets requested for when applying for FLR (I’ll confirm how they asked for the doc).

Please I need some enlightenment regarding council tax.

I used to think it's paid as part of a household's utility bill. I'm being made to understand that its nice for each person to pay if husband n wife are both employed so that their immigration status can be interdependent on each other. Thus if one person gets frustrated with his job, their immigration status is retained/stable.

I don't seem to understand this
Interesting.. I didn’t know council tax could do such magic haha

Council tax is just a payment you should make to your council for maintenance of that council. It helps to pay it if you’re on a spousal visa. I think people can get away with not paying it on other visas. But it helps with your credit file because some councils add you to the electoral roll if you’re paying.

Also you really should pay your council tax.

Plus those who head and work in the consulates, are also normal Nigerians... who would probably still come to ask "who did this to us?" It's a vicious cycle that we choose to be blind to. We keep doing ourselves, thinking someone is doing us.

They can’t even be good to neighbours but somehow think they will be better leaders.
