Princecalm:Unfortunately, you are the one who doesn't know a thing about Economics. |
You don't have to judge anybody after all, they work for it. If you were as rich, would you do differently? Well, I don't like people that show off but you know, when you complain people would say you are doing so because you are poor. Nigerians flashy and lavishing lifestyle is down to inadequate education and poverty of the mind. Take a look at Brad Pitt (Achilles in TROY) and other American celebrities, they lead a very simply life, humble, generous and very refined. |
I agree with you bro except on some points, please indulge me as i will make it very concise. Your bread and beans analysis does not really support your case as it is only a reflection of the dynamics of price index. You will agree with me that Nigeria is an open economy that operates a flexible exchange rate regime which is highly sensitive to global pricing of goods and services. Do not forget that Naira was once at par with pounds sterling and yet we were worse off then than now. Economic growth can never trigger negative development as you pointed out even in the face of corruption. Economic growth is a necessary condition for economic development but may not be sufficient. You emphasized that there is no correlation or direct relationship between fall in oil price and the demand for foreign goods. This fairly contradicts your Philip's illustration of imported inflation vis - a - viz foreign made commodities and their elasticity coefficients. Of course the effect of oil glut has weakened our local currency which makes foreign made products more expensive to procure. it is this simple. I have never been an advocate of devaluation as local currencies can still adjust automatically irrespective of the degree of devaluation. Nevertheless, your piece deserves front page any day and can stand the test of political and economic times. |
giantimpact:You do not apply for exceptions, the Institutes grant them based on what you studied in school (University or Poly). And yes, you can start the program whilst still in school but you may not be excepted for any course. I am a graduate of Economics who works with one of the leading Insurance Brokers in Nigeria. I qualified in less than three years even though i was only granted one exception (DO4). So in all, i did eleven out of twelve courses. For those of you that studied Insurance in school, you would be excepted from at least six courses and that leaves you with 5 or 6. Piece of cake right? I would be very serious and dedicated with my lectures if i were you as these courses are not to be taken likely. Be very wary of Insurance Law (DO5)- Diploma stage and other numerical courses in the final stage (Advance diploma). I strongly advise you attend lectures usually organised specifically for the exams. Ironically, i never attended any class as i am a very fast reader who thinks covering three chapters on your own is always better than spending hours on one chapter in the class. People differ in this regard. Again, it should be taken seriously as becoming an an associate member will definately boost your chances in the Industry. Qualifying between two to five years may be regarded exceptional as some people spend up to 10 years and more to get chartered. Good luck. |
I still remember vividly a course in year 3 where my friends cheated off my work as they had always done (not blowing my trumpet) from year one. When the result was released, most of us had our scripts missing. Of course I knew i was going to make an 'A', although i would always tell my friends that i was expecting something below but i knew better. My friends as mentioned earlier checked their results and they all had 'A' except one of them who was only able to write three out of the four answer's she copied from me. So, i thought my 'A' was already in the bag. To my shitty amazement, the stupid lecturer gave me a 'D'; he randomly distributed grades to students whose scripts were missing, some were happy whilst some were not. I only recorded one 'C' all my days in the university, so I was very shocked, and to think that my friends who cheated off my work ended up with 'A' added to my frustration. I stubbornly approached the lecturer for a redress but he asked me to check for my result on top of a palm tree. I insulted him blatantly and dared him to repeat such act again. My friends were happy my outstanding result streak was broken and i was surprised they were ingrates and that stupid. That was in Delta State University Abraka. |
austinvsb1:. You don't know shit about Buhari's history. Trust me. |
Disclaimer:And you don't know the difference between an adjective and a noun. |
This has little or nothing to do with the presidency, it is solely due to the plummeting oil price. Although, we should have diversified by exploiting other sectors but we are too myopic and reliant on oil for sustenance. The balance between injections and leakages into our national income equation cannot be accounted for as corruption has taken lead in the queue of leakages. That is by the way. For those of you who still clamour for naira dollar parity sighting examples of the early 80s where Nigeria was more or less a closed economy; you should understand that the structural adjustment program which was part of Babangida's economic policy designed to revamp the economy that was taking a similar downturn changed the exchange rate regime from being fixed to flexible among other things. The fixed exchange regime allowed Nigeria to peg the naira against the dolar for any rate it pleased, then naira was valued more or at parity with the dollar. The flexible exchange rate allows the naira to find its 'realistic'value in the market which is majorly determined by the interplay of demand and supply. This is better for any country that has embraced globalization as the flexible exchange regime is like a shock absorbed capable of insulating the domestic economy from external price perturbation. China are able to peg their exchange rate because they have more favourable trade terms than many countries. Conversely, Nigeria are vulnerable to all the negative fall outs of fixed exchange regime since they are majorly an importing economy and have less favourable trade terms with world powers. So unless we effectively minimize corruption, reduce subvention to govt parastatals, embrace and optimize other resources at our disposal, commercialize and privatize some govt owned organisations, coupled with other monetary and fiscal policies, our economy will still be at the mercy of more catastrophes. So this is wholly not the President's fault but an inherited culture. |
I concur bro giantimpact: |
I made a very good 2'1 (Economics) at Delsu, perhaps I should have done better. Don't just stop at studying your books, study your lecturers as well and know what they want. Trust me, undergraduate courses, even masters degree courses are way easier than professional courses where you are meant to read beyond scheme. My principle and secret: If i can recite a story that i was told, why can't i present what i have learnt at the expense of my parents' financial comfort knowing it will do me a lot of good in the long run. We all have the same IQ level, forget what science says about its diversity. What we don't have in parity is our ways of thinking and that's the key. Love you all. |
Well I am not an advocate of metaphysics but there was something I saw in 2005 that stunned me. It was very late, somewhere around 1:00 am. I was walking my girl friend home through corners to avoid being seen by vigilantes, just by the market square, I saw saw a creature in 'wiliwili' shape standing tall, all in white by a tree. Since I didn't want to spook my girl, I just drew her closer to me, turning her head away from the movie whilst I gradually increased my acceleration but not in a way that would ignite suspicion. Just some distance away therefrom my girl broke her silence, "Do you think I didn't see that"? My fear heightened as I expected some kind of fearful reactions from her. The following day, I asked her about the whole thing again but she wouldn't take it serious and considered it as just one of those things. If not for her confirmation thereof, I would still question the reality of that episode. Although I still don't believe in ghosts and spirits, yet I keep pondering and wondering what that was (definitely not human). |

What is the estimated cost? |
My Toyota Corolla (2003) Passenger's air bag has 'bursted' and I need to replace it. I want to know where I can effect the replacement in Nigeria and how much it will cost. Also I need to know how effective it will be thereafter. I await your advice. |
OK. |
Na lie.. |
That's a quasi form of term Insurance, but like you said, it lacks validity. |
