Religion / American Evangelist, Morris Cerullo, Is Dead by AprokoGirl: 5:12pm On Jul 11, 2020
Legendary American preacher, Dr Morris Cerullo, is dead.

The televangelist died on Saturday in San Diego, California, United States at 88.
Born on October 2, 1931, Cerullo impacted many with his inspirational words and Christian teachings that spanned decades.

As an author, he published more than 80 books.

The preacher, who started evangelising at the age of 16, would be remembered by many as a torchbearer.

Founder and Presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, Bishop Mike Okonkwo, who has invited Cerullo several times for preaching engagement expressed shock over his death.

He wrote: “My father – Dr. Morris Cerullo! Like a good soldier of Christ, you fought a good fight, finished your course and kept the faith (2 Tim 4:7).

“Our consolation is that you lived an impactful life, raising men across the globe for Jesus. Adieu Papa Cerullo! We will miss you dearly.”

Born in New Jersey to a Russo-Jewish/Italian family, Cerullo attended and graduated from divinity school in New York state in 1953, and began ministering with the help of his then soon-to-be bride Theresa, and was later ordained in the Assemblies of God.

He ministered in several countries of the world including Mexico, Brazil, The Philippines, Korea, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Indonesia, Netherlands and many others.

Crime / Deaconess Oyewole Arrested For Torturing A Girl - Graphic Pictures by AprokoGirl: 4:58pm On Jul 11, 2020
Deaconess arrested for torturing a girl kept in her care and forcing her to sleep on toilet floor

A deaconess with the Living Faith Church, Barnawa, Kaduna State, identified as Mrs. Iyema Oyemola Oyewole, has been arrested by Operatives of the Kaduna Police command for torturing a 14-year-old girl, identified as Princess .

The victim has been living with the Oyemolas for a year now, Her father, who is friends with the culprit’s husband, had honored his friend’s request for her to stay with them since he doesn’t have accommodation due to the unrest in southern kaduna.

The picture of the girl here is that of a young Princess. She is fourteen years old from Kuturah in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Her father moved his family to Kaduna town when the neighboring village was attacked by the forces killing our people.

Mrs. Iyema Oyemola otherwise known as Mrs. Oyewole or so whose picture appears above is a Refinery Staff. She is also a Church Deaconess with the Living Faith Church Barnawa. She has five children.

Mr. Oyewole begged for Princess to come and stay with them. The father single-handedly gave the girl to the woman. The woman even used holy water when he handed his daughter to the woman. He thought she was a good Christian woman.
A month later, he called to speak with his daughter; the woman said he must speak with her in English and not Hausa. She knew the daughter would likely spill.

She would now put the girl on the speaker to monitor her. Meanwhile, the girl was sleeping in the toilet all these while with not even a wrapper. The woman gave her a cup and told her that whenever she’s thirsty she should fetch water from the toilet to drink.

In the interview video clip, you’d hear the girl say, “They would now give me leaves like an animal” while in the toilet before the girl would come out to work her ass off.

The father said, “I did not collect or want any money from the woman. All that I wanted to be was for my daughter to go to school.” But in reality, for the past one year, Princess has gone to school just a week.

When asked, why did you go to school just once? And she replied, “The woman opened my bag one week after I commenced school and saw a carrot that I had put inside to eat during break and beat the living daylight out of me. Since then she stopped me from going to school…”

Check the scars on her face? The woman puts a knife on a burner or stove and when it’s hot, she would place it on her face. Her face used to be very swollen.

When the parents insisted on seeing her, she refused to let anyone have access to the girl. The mother, months ago went to the house to see the girl. It was raining, and for three hours, Mrs. Oyewole refused to let her see her daughter. She told her she would not allow her into the house because she does not want the woman to bring in corona into the house.

When the mother refused to leave, she opened the gate for her and let her see the daughter from the gate of the house. She told her, “You can see your daughter is alive right? Now leave my house!”

The grains that the woman brought for the family, the woman instantly gave it out to the security men at the gate.

When the girl’s father was told of the inhumane treatment, he then realized that something was wrong. He made contact with the relevant people on how to get his daughter back but every effort proved unsuccessful. The woman told them that the girl was in Abuja.

On Monday, the Uncle to the girl called the woman and warned her that she had just six hours to return the girl and here we are today.

It was then she started treating the girl with iodine and ice to dry up the wounds.

Mrs. Oyewole has a son who beats Princess at will. Punishes her even under the rain. When all of these happens, the husband locks himself in his room and pretends like nothing is happening. Her children Tito and Nifemi would hold the girl’s neck while the mother would burn her buttocks and vagina with lighter.

They hold her down while the mother inserts a stick into her private part at the same time burning the vagina. They also put pepper in the vagina and over the wounds.

When asked at the police station, why did you treat the girl so, and she replied, “I didn’t know the fire was burning very well like that!”

Her Church had settled the matter. But luckily, Alheri Magaji and the rest have got other NGOs involved.

The Church in Nigeria is as culpable as anyone else. You settled this case and wanted that girl back to that woman’s home?

An 8 month pregnant wife had a little quarrel with her husband this morning which got physical. She grabbed a kitchen knife and amputated the man's penis. When next you want to advocate against domestic violence, remember that it can be both ways.

Politics / Chris Ngige Visits Ochanja , Onitsha Fire Outbreak Scene - Photos by AprokoGirl: 6:53am On Oct 21, 2019
The Minister of Labour and Employment , Dr. Chris Ngige , wept on Saturday when he visited the scene of the tanker fire accident at DMGS roundabout in Onitsha , Anambra State and saw the volume of books destroyed by the inferno .

“This is the destruction of a generation . My daughter bought a book here for her medical course. This was after we searched for the book in many bookshops across the country without success ,” Ngige lamented .

No fewer than 10 houses and 30 vehicles were razed in the inferno .

The minister also wept over the destruction of books in two law chambers in the area .
Chief J . C . Mbanugo , Chairman of Joeson Bookshops Limited , a tertiary books dealer , whose shop was razed by the fire , told the minister he was still in a state of shock .
He said , “I cannot quantify the cost of books consumed by the fire because most of the tertiary books on display are very costly.”
Ngige , however , assured the Onitsha fire victims of the support of the Federal Government .
The minister , who described the destruction as massive , said the Federal Government would find a way to come in to assuage the pains of the victims .

“This is painful. We are all in pains and agony . What took us many years to build just vanished within few minutes . You won’ t suffer alone . We shall all come in to assist . The Federal Government will come to assist through the National Directorate of Employment .

“This fire incident should not be the end of the world for the victims . I saw electronics and bookshops burnt to ashes . I also saw law chambers and residential homes burnt beyond recognition and we have a scheme under the NDE to assist in rehabilitating such victims .

“ I will direct the National Directorate of Employment , which is a department of my ministry, to come down for an assessment tour of this scene, after which we shall see how we can assist in rehabilitating the victims and repair or replace their burnt properties ,” the minister stated .

Ngige , who thanked God that no life was lost , accused the state government for poor fire -fighting initiative .

He condemned the situation where the state would continue to be relying on fire - fighting arrangements from neighbouring Delta State .
The minister condemned the siting of filling stations in residential areas , adding that the Federal Government would come up with a regulation to stop such act .

He advised the Department of Petroleum Resources to consider occupational safety in siting new filling stations .

Business / Re: Seven Banks Fail Cbn’s Stress Test by AprokoGirl: 1:09am On Oct 19, 2019
Islie:

•N18.9b lost to fraudsters

THE funding positions of seven commercial banks are inadequate, the result of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) stress test released on Thursday, has shown.

The financial stability report signed by CBN Director, Financial Policy and Regulation Department, Kelvin Amugo, showed that in the less than 30-day period analysis, seven banks were not adequately funded, while in the 31 to 90-day period, nine banks had funding gaps.

The report, however, said the cumulative position for the industry showed an excess of N4.8 trillion assets over liabilities.

The seven banks were, however, not named by the apex bank. Nigeria has 24 banks.
The report, which covered the period ended December 2018, showed that six banks accounted for 82 per cent (N252.00 billion) of total placements and 86 per cent (N 266 billion) of total takings, of which 71 per cent (N190 billion) was provided by the top four placers of funds.

The stress test result revealed that, after a one-day run scenario, the liquidity ratio for the industry declined to 34.69 per cent from the 51.87 per cent pre-shock position and to 17.55 and 13.48 per cent after a five-day and cumulative 30-day scenarios.

The result also revealed that, under five-day and cumulative 30-day run scenarios on the banking industry, liquidity shortfalls declined to N1.58 trillion and N1.98 trillion.

The results of the stress test of default in exposure to the oil and gas sector showed that the banking industry could withstand up to 50.00 per cent default as the post-shock Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) remained at 10.24 per cent.

The results of the stress tests on the net position of interest sensitive instruments showed that the banking industry would maintain a stable solvency position to interest rate shock of up to 1000 basis points downward shift in yield curve as the post-shock CAR declined marginally from 15.26 to 13.41 per cent.

The industry pre-shock assets and liabilities maturity profile at end-December 2018 revealed that the shorter end of the market less than 90 day buckets were adequately funded.

Contagion risk from the unsecured transactions in the interbank market was moderate at end- December 2018. The results of simulated conditional counter-party default from unsecured interbank loans indicated low risk as the banks, except two, maintained post-shock CAR above 10 per cent.

The Implied Cash Flow Analysis (ICFA) assessed the ability of the banking system to withstand unanticipated substantial withdrawals of deposits, short-term wholesale and long-term funding over five days and cumulative 30 days, with specific assumptions on fire sale of assets.

The test assumed gradual average outflows of 3.8, 5.0 and 1.5 per cent of total deposits, short-term funding and long-term funding respectively, over a 5-day period and a cumulative average outflow of 22.0, 11.0 and 1.5 per cent of total deposits, short-term funding and long-term funding respectively, on a 30-day balance. It also assumed that the assets in Table 3.10 would remain unencumbered after a fire sale.

Also, reported cases of fraud and forgeries by banks increased to 25,029 at end-December 2018 from 20, 774 at end-June 2018. However, the total amount involved decreased to N18.94 billion at end- December 2018 from N19.77 billion at end-June 2018.

Similarly, actual losses declined to N2.21 billion at end-December 2018 from N12.10 billion in the first half of 2018.The total number of reported fraud cases in OFIs stood at 754 at end-December 2018, while the actual loss of N120.98 million was recorded during the same period.

Automated Teller Machine (ATM) and mobile channels recorded the highest incidence of fraud. To tackle this trend, bank customers were continually sensitised on safe banking practices while banks were encouraged to implement strong authentication controls and carry out comprehensive infrastructure risk assessments.

A total of 1,612 complaints from consumers of financial services were received in the period under review, indicating an increase of 173 complaints or 12.02 per cent over the 1,439 received in the first half of 2018. Of this number, 1,602 complaints or 99.38 per cent were against banks, while 10 complaints or 0.62 per cent were against OFIs. The complaints were in various categories, such as Excess/Unauthorised charges, Frauds, Guarantees, Dispense errors, Funds Transfers.

A total of 1,496 complaints were successfully resolved or closed in the period under review, compared with 4,723 in the first half of 2018, indicating a decrease of 3,227 or 215.71 per cent. Total claims made by complainants during the period amounted to N7.995 billion and US$1.767 million, while the sums of N3.093 billion and US$1.724 million were refunded to customers.

Amugo said the banking industry’s outlook is positive, given the expected enhanced capital base for most banks arising from the capitalisation of year 2018 profits in the first half of 2019.

However, banks’ exposure to the oil and gas sector as well as the implementation of International Financial Reporting Standard 9 (IFRS 9) remains a threat to overall profitability.
“The CBN will continue to collaborate with the fiscal authority and other financial services regulators to address the observed challenges towards ensuring that the gains made are sustained to reinforce financial system stability,” he said.

During the review period, seven banks were categorised as Domestic Systemically Important Banks (D-SIBs). The banks were selected based on the D-SIB supervisory framework, given their size, interconnectedness, substitutability and complexity. The D-SIBs accounted for 63.80 per cent of the industry total assets of N35.10 trillion and 65.23 per cent of the industry total deposit of N21.73 trillion as well as 66.00 per cent of the industry total loans of N15.34 trillion.

The examination revealed that the D-SIBs were largely in compliance with the regulatory requirements, including capital adequacy and liquidity ratios. The average CAR for the D-SIBs stood at 19.82 per cent, while liquidity ratio stood at 46.29 per cent. There was an improvement in non-performing loans ratio from 11.31 per cent at end-June 2018 to 9.82 per cent at end- December 2018.
