[quote]https://soundaza.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/334.jpg @SOUNDAZA THE Osun State candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in last year’s governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke, will be arraigned today in Abuja, the police said last night. According to Force spokesman Frank Mba, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DCP), the senator was arrested and being detained in connection with ongoing criminal investigations touching on his person. He, however, declined to give the exact charges against Adeleke. A police source told The Nation last night that the senator will be arraigned for forgery. A statement by Mba reads: “Senator Adeleke is currently in police custody. He was taken into custody in the evening of today yesterday (6th, May, 2019, in connection with ongoing criminal investigations touching on his person. “Meanwhile, in the best tradition of natural justice and fair hearing, he has already been served with the relevant charge sheet containing his alleged offences in the presence of his attorneys. “He will be arraigned in a competent court of law tomorrow, 7th May, 2019.” But the PDP yesterday alleged plots to poison the senator. According to it, Adeleke was arrested and detained by the police yesterday evening, in what the party described “total disregard for the extant order of the Federal High Court.” At a news conference in Abuja, PDP spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan, described the senator’s arrest and detention as highly provocative, an invitation to anarchy and recipe for a very serious crisis not only in Osun but also in the judiciary and the nation as a whole. The statement said: “The arrest and detention of senator Adeleke is a direct act of violence against our laws, the institution of the judiciary and the 1999 Constitution (as amended). “This is part of the grand plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to coerce Senator Adeleke to relinquish the mandate that was freely given to him by the people of Osun state, which was further established by the election petition tribunal. “The plot is to drag Senator Adeleke before an ostensibly compromised magistrate court, over the same issues of alleged forged school testimonial that is already before the Federal High Court, with a view to using such corridor to secure a stampeded trial and hurried conviction, and put him out of circulation, over trump-up charges. “The heinous calculation by the APC is to ensure that Senator Adeleke is not free to be sworn in as governor of Osun state as they know he will surely obtain justice and retrieve his stolen mandate at the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. “The police arrested Senator Ademola on the guise of an invitation despite the direct orders of the Federal High Court, restraining it or its agents from arresting and detaining him on account of statement of result and testimonial duly issued by the Ede Muslim Grammar School, Ede, pending the determination of the originating summons pending in the court. “Senator Adeleke, as a law-abiding citizen, honoured an invitation by the police only for him to be arrested and detained in a dingy facility in Maitama, in direct affront to the order of the Federal High Court. “The PDP holds that any arraignment of Senator Adeleke in a magistrate court, for a matter that is already being heard by the Federal High Court, is a calculated plot to cause crisis in the judicial system, enmesh the matter in unnecessary controversy as a pathway to truncate the course of justice in his matter. “The PDP therefore demands forthwith, the immediate and unconditional release of Senator Adeleke by the police. This demand is predicated on fears already in the public space that there are plots by certain elements to poison him in detention.” SOURCE: https://thenationonlineng.net/detained-adeleke-to-be-arraigned-in-abuja-today/amp/ |

@SOUNDAZA For the second consecutive year, the annual report produced by the World Health Organisation (WHO) reveals that a reduction in malaria cases has stalled after several years of global decline. Nearly half the world's population is at risk of malaria – a disease that killed 435,000 people in 2017 and still kills a child every two minutes. The WHO African Region is the hardest hit, bearing 93% of malaria deaths, with Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo accounting for 36% of all malaria cases. According to WHO, the continued rise of malaria in countries with the highest burden of the disease and inadequate international and domestic funding represents the greatest threat and reasons for the current setback in malaria control and elimination. It is estimated that annual malaria funding will need to increase to at least US$ 6.6 billion per year by 2020 to reach the Global Technical Strategy 2030 targets (reducing global malaria incidence and mortality rates by at least 90% by 2030). Last year, just US$ 3.1 billion was invested. Malaria has a devastating impact not only on the health and wellbeing of people around the world but also on business, economic growth and stability. The economic impact of malaria is estimated to cost Africa $12 billion every year, due to malaria-related absenteeism, loss of productivity and treatment costs as well as loss of investment and tourism. Every year that we don't eliminate malaria is another year of unfulfilled human and economic potential. This day, April 25th as we commemorate World Malaria Day – is an opportunity to highlight our progress against malaria and assess the challenges and our efforts as a continent and as a nation to eliminate malaria. Despite a stall in progress since 2015, the global malaria response is in a much better place than it was at the start of the 21st century. Over the last decade, substantial progress has been made in the control of malaria in Nigeria and the rest of Africa, through investment from the government, private sector and other partners... But progress stagnates and the benefits reaped by malaria control efforts over the years can be lost unless durable investments and commitments are made to ensure continued success. To get the reduction in malaria deaths and disease back on track, the WHO calls for the adoption of “high burden high impact” model, which emphasises increased political will, increased funding, especially domestic funding and implementing a coordinated country response. It is more critical than ever for all stakeholders in the global health community to come together to unite around a common goal: to accelerate the pace of progress, especially in high burden countries and eliminate malaria. In addition, I would encourage countries to take more ownership, by committing more funds, developing strategic partnerships, new strategies, and new tools towards ending the scourge of malaria. As the UN Malaria Ambassador for Nigeria, I'm committed to this fight; and as an organization, malaria remains a core focus for Dangote Group of Industries. Our strategy is hinged on prevention and control starting from the workplace to communities. We are currently rolling out a comprehensive malaria-training programme for staff aimed at increasing awareness, prevention and control of malaria as well as reducing related absenteeism at selected Dangote workplaces, these and more we are doing to contribute to the fight. But I cannot do it alone, no organization or sector can achieve the ambitious goal of malaria elimination alone. I, therefore, want to call on all stakeholders, public sector, private sector, donors, non-governmental organisations, and others to redouble their commitment and join me in this fight to eliminate malaria. Together, let us save our children, family, nation and continent. #ZeroMalariaStartsWithMe ALIKO DANGOTE, GCON United Nations (UN) Malaria Ambassador for Nigeria Source: https://soundaza.com/world-malaria-day/ https://soundaza.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/dangotegroup_25_4_2019_9_47_32_762.jpg |

@SOUNDAZA In recent times, a number of people on social media have made it their duty to call out corrupt or questionable practices of some religious leaders, particularly pastors. In a video that is now making the rounds on social media, a man who seemed to be a pastor was spotted kissing his female church member during a deliverance service. In the short clip, the 'pastor' held on to a young lady’s face and kissed her for some moments before finally letting go. Interestingly, the supposed man of God repeated the act after he was seemingly unsatisfied with the result of the first kiss. https://soundaza.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/ahaa6s7a76s6.png @SOUNDAZA President Muhammadu Buhari has dismissed claims by PDP’s Atiku Abubakar that he won February 23 presidential election, stressing that he is more popular and acceptable among the electorate than the ex-Vice President. Buhari, in his response to the petition filed before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja by Atiku and the PDP, challenging the outcome of the February 23, 2019, presidential election, noted that Atiku has never won any political contest with him (Buhari). The president wondered why the PDP presidential candidate thought he could secure victory on the platform of a political party (the PDP) he (Atiku) had previously derided and described as a dead party, and one which was beyond redemption. Buhari, in his response filed on April 16, 2019 by his team of lawyers, led by Wole Olanipekun (SAN), said : “At every previous instance, whether at intra-party or inter-party contests, where he and the 1st petitioner (Atiku) had vied, he has always been the preference of the electorate and/or delegates. “In particular, at the primary election conducted by the 3rd respondent (APC) in 2014, to pick its presidential candidate for the 2015 election, the 1st petitioner and the respondent (Buhari), amongst others, were the candidates; and while the respondent polled 3,430 votes, the 1st petitioner came a distant third with 954 votes. “The 1st petitioner was at all material times prior to his decamping to the 2nd petitioner (PDP), shortly before the presidential election, a member of the 3rd respondent (APC). “The 1st petitioner contested the presidential primary election of the 3rd respondent with the respondent in 2014 and after the respondent (Buhari) defeated him to a distant third place, the 1st petitioner joined the campaign train of the respondent immediately after the primary election, traversing all over the country and rightly declaring to all and sundry that respondent was the best choice available to the country for the position of President. “On joining the 3rd respondent, the 1st petitioner consigned the 2nd petitioner to the grave, describing it as a dead party that is beyond redemption.“The 1st petitioner could not have won the presidential election under the platform of a political, which he abandoned and described as having gone beyond redemption. “The respondent enjoys a wide acceptability across the federation and is more popular and acceptable to the electorate than the 1st petitioner, leading to the respondent securing more votes than the 1st petitioner, even at the latter’s polling unit in Adamawa State.“In the polling unit where the 1st petitioner registered for the election, while the 1st petitioner polled 167 votes, the respondent scored 186 votes.” SOURCE: https://soundaza.com/i-am-more-popular-acceptable-than-atiku-buhari/ cc; lalasticlala |
