I got this from someone and I think it makes good reading..... Nigeria Exports Religion, India Exports Cars. The biggest country in Africa that the United Kingdom colonised is Nigeria. The biggest country that the United Kingdom colonised in Asia is India (which then comprised the present Pakistan and Bangladesh). When the UK came into Nigeria and India, like all other countries they colonised, they brought along their technology, religion (Christianity), and culture: names, dressing, food, and language, among others. Try as hard as the British did, India rejected the British religion, names, dressing, food, and even language, but they did not reject the British technology. Today, 80.5 per cent of Indians are Hindus; 13.4 per cent Muslims; 2.3 per cent Christians; 1.9 per cent Sikhs; 0.8 per cent Buddhists, among others. Hindi is the official language of the government of India, but English is used extensively in business and administration and has the status of a subsidiary official language. Interestingly, it is rare to find an Indian with an English name or dressed in suit.On the other hand, Nigeria embraced, to a large extent, the British religion, British culture “ names, dressing, foods, and language “ but, ironically, rejected the British technology. The difference between the Nigerian and the Indian experiences is that while India is proud of its heritage, Nigeria takes little pride in its own heritage, a situation that has affected the nationalism of Nigerians and our development as a nation. Before the advent of Christianity, the Arabs had brought Islam into Nigeria through the North. Islam also wiped away much of the culture of Northern Nigeria. Today, the North has only Sharia courts but no Customary courts. So from the North to the South of Nigeria, the Western World and the Eastern World have shaped our lives to be like theirs and we have lost much or all of our identity.Long after the Whites and Arabs left Nigeria, Nigeria has waxed strong in religion to the extent that Nigerians now set up branches of their home-grown churches in Europe, the Americas, Asia and other African countries. Just like the Whites brought the gospel to us, Nigerians now take the gospel back to the Whites. In Islam, we are also very vibrant to the extent that if there is a blasphemous comment against Islam in Denmark or the US, even if there is no violent reaction in Saudi Arabia, the Islamic headquarters of the world, there will be loss of lives and destruction of property in Nigeria. If the United Arab Emirates, a country with 75 per cent Muslims, is erecting the tallest building in the world and encouraging the world to come and invest in its territory by providing a friendly environment, Boko Haram ensures that the economy of the North (and by extension that of Nigeria) is crippled with bombs and bullets unless every Nigerian converts to Boko Haram's brand of Islam. We are indeed a very religious people. Meanwhile, as we are building the biggest churches and mosques, the Indians, South Africans, Chinese, Europeans and Americans have taken over our key markets: telecoms, satellite TV, multinationals, banking, oil and gas, automobile, aviation, and hospitality industries among others.Ironically, despite our exploits in religion, we are a people with little godliness, a people without scruples. It is rare to do business with a Nigerian pastor, deacon, knight, elder, brother, sister, imam, mullah, mallam, alhaji or alhaja without the person laying landmines of bribes and deception on your path. We call it PR, facilitation fee, processing fee, transport money, financial engineering, deal, or whatever. But if it does not change hands, no show. And when it is amassed, we say it is "God's blessings." Some people assume that sleaze is a problem of public functionaries, but the private sector seems to be worse than the public sector these days. One would have assumed that the more churches and mosques that spring up in every nook and cranny of Nigeria, the higher the morals in our society. But it is not so. The situation is that the more religious we get, the baser we become. Our land never knew the type of bloodshed experienced from religious extremists, political desperadoes, ritual killers, armed robbers, kidnappers, internet scammers, university cultists, and lynch mobs. Life has become so cheap and brutish that everyday seems to be a bonanza. We import petrol even when we have crude oil in abundance. We also import rice and beans that our land can produce in abundance. We even import toothpicks that primary school children can produce with little or no effort. Yet, we drive the best of cars and live in the best of edifices, visit the best places in the world for holidays and use the most expensive electronic and telecoms gadgets. It is now a sign of poverty for a Nigerian to ride a saloon car. Four-wheel drive vehicles are the in thing. Even government officials, who were known to use only Peugeot products as official cars as a sign of modesty, have upgraded to Toyota Prado as official vehicle without any iota of shame, in a country where about 70 per cent live below poverty line. Private jets have become as common as cars. A nation that imports toothpicks and pins flaunts wealth and wallows in ostentation at a time its children are trooping to Ghana, South Africa and the UK for university education and its sick people are running to India for treatment.India produces automobile and exports it to the world. India's medical care is second to none, with even Americans and Europeans travelling to the country for medical treatment. India has joined the nuclear powers nations. India has launched a successful mission to the moon. Yet bicycles and tricycles are common sights in India. But in Nigeria, only the wretched of the earth ride bicycles.I have intentionally chosen to compare Nigeria with India rather than China, South Korea, Brazil, Malaysia, or Singapore, because of the similarities between India and Nigeria. But these countries were not as promising as Nigeria at the time of our independence. Some would say that our undoing is our size: the 2012 United Nations estimate puts Nigeria's population at 166,000 million, while India has a population of 1.2 billion. Some would blame it on the multiplicity of ethnic groups: we have 250 ethnic groups, India has more than 2,000. Some would hang it on the diversity in religion: we have two major religions, Christianity and Islam; but India has many. Some would say it is because we are young as an independent nation: we have 52 years of independence; India has 65 years. Apartheid ended in South Africa only in 1994. I am a Christian, and nothing can change me from Christianity. But I think that our country is daily sinking into religiosity to the detriment of godliness. Our land is sick and needs healing. "If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land" is still a saying that is germane to our current situation. We need more godliness than religion; more work and less of hope; and more action and less of words.Let everyone tidy up his or her corner first and demand fervently that our leaders tidy their areas of governance. Our nation is degenerating at a fast pace and we need to save it now or it may be too late. |

This is the continuation of my postings that FOD and Naijacutee have been hiding in both UBA Africard threads. The earlier portion has been repeatedly hid... I said earlier that you do not have to fear the merchant having access to use your card later. This is because if you use your card on the right website, the payment page where you enter your card details should be starting with a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) of https (denoting secured website) instead of just http. So depending on the level of security and encryption (64-bit, 128-bit or 256-bit), entering your card details will only be looking coded in binary forms to the back-end of the merchant support (just like your asterisked password) and not readable to them. So they do not have your card details. In fact, redirecting you to GTB site for entering token (if possibly required) does not guarantee that they cannot see or use the card. More so, some merchants in the West only need your card number to debit your card for orders you place by telephone banking and not necessarily your 3-digit security code at the back. But GTB told me they do not release your fund to any merchant that do not present your 3-digit security code when claiming their money from an order you placed and authorized on their website. Other banks may have different style over there as per not being strict with what they need before releasing your fund from your card to the merchant's banker. While GTB holds the amount you authorize on a site from your available balance until the merchant's banker claims it successfully, it may take about 30 days to automatically refund it to your card if the merchant does not claim it due to any problem. For example for not supplying your 3-digit code at the back of card in its claim, GTB will not release the fund. |

Ozonna: Guys I've been having problems trying to get a UBA africard for some days now. I'm told that my requet is being rejected for no just reason ( I'm not an internet fraudster). You are not clear with your statement. Is it the bank staff that rejected you when you went there to apply for Africard and on what basis did they reject you or are you talking of rejection online after getting the card? Be explicit with your question please. Meanwhile, you do not need to be a GTBank DOM account holder to have mastercard since the card itself is a naira funded card. |
no bank is doing it free yet or have u seen one? at least as at sunday that i withdrew, i saw deductions. |
israel007: Please can someone help me out here. I just incorporated a limited liability company and about going to open an account and I see a TIN number (tax identification number) on the bank form so I thought I'd ask. Is TIN included in the package alongside your certificate? If no, how do I get it and how long would it take. If yes, how do I find itI would not know if you are talking of USA, UK or Nigerian kind of incorporation. The TIN is the same as the EIN in case of the US. If you have social security number (SSN) as a resident of the US, you can apply online for EIN after incorporation of your company via their website at http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-Businesses-&-Self-Employed/How-to-Apply-for-an-EIN and you will get your EIN immediately. You can also call to get it. But if you do not have someone with SSN to apply for you but through a company as agent, you will need to pay an agent company to apply and obtain it. I applied for my EIN as a non-resident by faxing my application from London to the IRS international handling center in Philadelphia . The IRS posted my EIN number letter to my PO Box in Ikoyi Lagos since I did not include a fax number to receive on the form. In case of UK company incorporation, the HM Revenue and Customs immediately sent my Taxpayer number after Companies House informed them of my company registration within hours/days. So I would not know which of the countries you are particular about. There are some company registration agents that will include tax number and even bank account opening in your package anyway, depending on how much they charge you. |
are you saying that western union charge is now more than the usual 25 or 30 dollars? i doubt if normal bank transfer would be cheaper than that. anyway, you may transfer from your swedish bank account to your zenith. what your sender bank will need in addition to your zenith account info may just be your bank swift code, which is zeibngla. |

Today is World Radiography Day. November 8, 2012, marks the 117th year since x-rays were discovered. On November 8, 1895, Professor Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen of the University of Wurzburg in Germany first observed X-rays quite by accident when experimenting with vacuum tubes. He discovered that these rays could pass through paper, wood and human skin. He produced an image of his wife's hand which clearly revealed her wedding ring and her bones on a photographic plate. He called them "X-RAYS" and the name has stuck till today. Despite his objections, many of his colleagues suggested calling them Roentgen rays. They are still occasionally referred to as Roentgen rays in German-speaking countries. This discovery signaled the beginning of imaging in Medicine and the evolution of Radiology. By January 1896, X-rays were used to set the broken arm of a young boy in Dartmouth, New Hampshire. In 1896, Genzo Shimadzu Jr. succeeded in taking radiographs under the guidance of Prof. Muraoka of Kyoto Higher School. Since its discovery about a century ago, Radiographs, variously referred to as ‘The Eye of Medicine’, ‘The Fastest Diagnostic Tool’ and ‘The window to total Healthcare’, have brought tremendous progress to health care. Science has moved from Conventional/Plain Radiography, Fluoroscopy through Computed Radiography to Computerized Tomography(CT), Digital Radiography, Interventional Radiology/ Image guided Surgery, Spiral Whole body C.T, Conformal Therapy, Therapeutic Radiography (Treatment of cancer), Radio Isotope, and more. Roentgen, who won the first Nobel Prize in physics in 1901, declined to seek patents or proprietary claims on his discovery and its applications. He did not profit financially from his discovery and died in poverty during the World War 1 inflation at the age of 73 years. We hereby honor Roentgen for these achievements. Practical points to note: • Imaging (often using x-rays) is an essential diagnostic tool. • Physicians are aware of radiation risks, and will only request imaging investigations if they are considered beneficial. • If you are seeing multiple Physicians, let them know your history with regard to exposure to radiation. • Excess radiation may be harmful, so do not undertake imaging investigations unless it is advised by a Physician. |
Unique!:Ordinarily, recent phones will automatically adapt to whether you are within 4g, 3g or edge network coverage as you move around. This is because the newer technologies are backward compatible. But I can see from your case that your phone is not switching automatically, if I am right. I can see it sees slower network and shows from full EDGE to lower than edge or even gprs but you said when it does, it does not browse automatically. Right? That means you have to be setting it to the current signal strength of network where you are. But the baffling thing is when you said it browses from your airtime credit at 3G signal whereas it browses from your data bundle when down to EDGE. Right? I feel that if you have subscribed to a data bundle, your phone supposes to browse from your current data bundle subscription automatically whether the network signal you are receiving is 3G or EDGE or edge or gprs. It is the speed of your data throughput that supposes to slow down and not that one connection (3G) is removing from airtime credit while another connection strength (EDGE or GPRS) is deducting from your data bundle. |
lower than gprs is the old dial up modem, with speed levels range of 19.6kbps, 32kbps to even 64kbps analogous to code division multiple access cdma u have in those earlier starcomms table top phones. What u need to take note is that all these speed levels are that of ur hardware be it phone, tablet, pc or even the adjourning cables thru which data will pass. The most important part is ur network signal data throughput, which determines what data gets to ur device per sec. Most of our networks that are boasting of 3.5g like mtn, 3.75g like glo, airtel or 4g like swift, mobitel and so on, do not even give a consistent data thruput of 384kbps for 5 mins. They use non constant burst speed to advertise or give excuse of fair share policy because they carry more users than their data speed until many sleep at night. The nokia phone i am typing with now is hspa+ 4g capable and glo or airtel shows 3.5g signal or 3g for mtn in my area, yet none of them gives data thruput up to 200kbps. Note that my swift 4g network at home has never given beyond 300+kbps and more consistently at less than 200kbps, yet it streams youtube video with no much draw back. So the networks and internet service providers need to give better data thruput and stop deception. |
phlopholly: I wan be like you oI am just a newbie depending on people like bommaster. The pasted one is the little I could do on my own without confidence, which is the reason you can see I staked small money all through the trades. |
