PoliticsGowon Is Not The Enemy: Nnamdi Azikiwe Is Why Biafra Has No Legal Right To Seced by ardeks(op): 7:55am On Oct 23, 2024
The recent comments by Peter Obi labelling former Head of State, General Gowon, as an 'enemy' to be 'forgiven' has emboldened many of his closet IPOB supporters who now wear the tag Obidients (which in reality is the political arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra movement) to revise history and make fallacious and salacious claims.

One such claim was made by a certain Onyekwelu, who asserts that Biafra has a legal claim to secede and is being extrajudicially held back in Nigeria by domestic and international powers, especially the British government.

But the truth is that by virtue of succeeding Nigerian Constitutions, beginning from the Independence Constitution of 1960, no part of Nigerians had or has a right to secede from the country named the Federal Republic of Nigeria. For that, we have Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe to thank if you believe in a united Nigeria, or blame if you support Biafran secession.

The idea for a secession clause was mooted by Chief Obafemi Awolowo in 1954 during the Lagos Constitutional Conference, but Nnamdi Azikiwe rejected it and galvanised a majority of the conference attendees to kill the idea.

After this was rejected, Chief Awolowo again wrote to the then Governor General of Nigeria, who rejected the clause on the grounds that the majority, led by Nnamdi Azikiwe, was not in support of it.

It was because of Nnamdi Azikiwe that section 86 was inserted into our constitution with the proviso that if any region should secede, it would be an act of treason.

Nnamdi Azikiwe himself wrote about this in an essay that was published by the New Nigerian Newspapers in 1975. It has since been republished by other papers and by Mr Azikiwe himself.

The funniest thing is that those now accusing the North of forcefully keeping them in Nigeria are unaware that the North actually supported Chief Awolowo for the inclusion of a secession clause.

The essay was republished under the title 'Why I opposed Awolowo on secession'. For the benefit of those who have been misled by the likes of Peter Obi and their fellow fantasists, I will now republish Mr. Nnamdi Azikiwe's essay word for word, without adding or removing anything.

'My opposition to secession

By Nnamdi Azikiwe

When the 1954 constitution conference started, my good friend, Chief Obafemi Awolowo tabled a motion to the effect that in the new constitution, provision should be made that any state which feels like seceding should do so. I was opposed to it and said ‘no’ and said that once we have a federation, we are indivisible and perpetual.

That was when we began to use that expression – ‘The Indivisibility and perpetuity of the federation’ – and that to secede would amount to treason. And so, a debate ensued.

The Secretary of State then was Oliver Littleton, later Lord Chandos and he was very much interested and that was his first time in saying that the people of African descent were people actually debating at a high level.

So a full day was given to Chief Awolowo to make his points. He spoke brilliantly as a lawyer. He made his points why secession should be incorporated in the Constitution. He cited the case of the Soviet Union which is a federation, and that secession is written there so that any state in the Soviet Union can secede at will. He also cited the case of Western Australia and eventually he finished his case and was applauded.

Lord Chandos said that on the face of the arguments before him it would be suicidal to incorporate secession in our constitution and that is why we have section 86 in our constitution that if any region or state should secede, then it will be an act of treason.

We adjourned. The next day, I had to reply. I availed myself of the opportunity to, well, demolish the arguments of my friend and I cited the case of United States which based its constitution on that of the Swiss Confederation. That is Switzerland. I pointed out a case, I think, that of Texas versus White, where Mr. Salmon Chase, the Chief Justice laid down the principle – he was really an arbiter – that the union was intended to be perpetual and indivisible and that any attempt to divide the union by secession was treasonable.

The North (NPC) supported Action Group. The question was then: Should we have secession? The Colonial Office came to our rescue. You know, the usual principle of Britain – ‘divide and rule’ (laughs) but this time, it was in our favour. So, the colonial office backed us.

Lord Chandos said that on the face of the arguments before him it would be suicidal to incorporate secession in our constitution and that is why we have section 86 in our constitution that if any region or state should secede, then it will be an act of treason and that was what led to this war, because Col. Ojukwu seceded and so violated the constitution."

Here ends the essay by Mr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.

Biafra would have had the legal right to secede if it had not been for Azikiwe.

Moreover, even before that conference, Mr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, in a speech he gave at a caucus meeting of the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons on Monday, May 12, 1953, threatened the Northern Region of a blockade and denial of access to the sea if they should attempt to secede from Nigeria.

His exact words were as follows:

"It may lead to economic nationalism in the Eastern Region, which can pursue a policy of blockade of the North by refusing it access to the sea, over and under the River Niger, except upon payment of tolls. It may lead to economic warfare between the North on the one hand, and the Eastern or Western regions on the other."

Those who would like to read the full speech of Mr. Azikiwe threatening the Northern Region can do so here: https://www.blackpast.org/global-african-history/1953-nnamdi-azikiwe-speech-secession/

On February 23, 1966, Isaac Adaka Boro declared the secession of the Niger Delta Republic from Nigeria. After he did this, there was outrage in the Eastern Region, which almost resulted in riots. Please go and research it. The then Head of State, Major General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, quashed what he called the Isaac Boro mutiny using primarily troops of Eastern Nigeria origin.

When his 'rebellion' was crushed twelve days later, there was celebration in the Eastern Region. The other regions were not so enthused.

My question to you, Onyekwelu, is this: If Isaac Boro's declaration of the Niger Delta Republic was seen as a crime by the then Head of State, Major General Ironsi, and the Government of the Eastern Region headed by then Lt. Colonel Ojukwu (Isaac Boro's part of the Niger-Delta was then under Eastern Nigeria), why should the declaration of the Republic of Biafra be seen as lawful?

Lt. Colonel Emeka Ojukwu himself was the military Governor of Eastern Nigeria who first moved against Isaac Boro with the assistance of the Ironsi central government. If both Ojukwu and Ironsi fought Isaac Boro for attempting to secede from Eastern Nigeria and Nigeria, why are some of Peter Obi's supporters blaming Gowon and Nigeria for fighting Colonel Ojukwu when he declared Biafra?

PoliticsJAGABAN the 21st Century Tactician by Ayekooto Akindele. by ardeks(op): 8:51am On May 01, 2023
Atiku went to the 2023 election with the hope of benefitting from the possible division of the South owing to emergence of Two major candidates from two major tribes in the region. Atiku saw himself as the only force from the North capable of getting maximum votes from the North and picking a few votes from the South. He openly asked the North to vote for Northerners at Arewa House in Kaduna to formally launch what eventually turned to be the most politically tribalistic campaign of this century! Atiku also engaged the Ulamas in the North not just to pray for North to continue to rule after 8 years of President Muhammadu Buhari(only because he wanted to be the beneficiary), he also asked them to speak with other crowd pulling Northerners to step down for him so that North can put its votes in one basket. Atiku and his supporters were seeing bragging on all media outlets about this strength and their arrogance became unprecedented when they called the bluff of their G-5 Governors. Atiku didn't stop there, he stopped his campaign temporarily towards the end of 2022 to strike another deal with elements in the Presidential Villa opposed to power shift to South especially to Bola Tinubu, this deal will be Atiku's masterstroke to destroy the APC from within using economic hardship as the game changer!

Suddenly, these elements allegedly served the President the meal he loves most ANTI-CORRUPTION. They sold him the cash confiscation tragedy which was aimed at damaging the image of APC few weeks to a major election, inflicting injuries on common man and putting the lives of front line desk officers of commercial banks at risk. Not even the Supreme Court could stop them! Immediately this policy was having these anticipated negative effects, Atiku and his supporters rolled out massive supports for it, their media outlet especially 'Arice' was at the forefront of this support, treating Emefiele like the economic Pope who will eventually stop Tinubu from winning the election. Gullible Obi also embraced it, that one hardly know his left from right in politics.

But not surprisingly, Atiku's campaign in the North was telling the traders that APC deliberately took away their cash to punish them. They urged Northerners to vote against APC so that Atiku can return their cash to them.

Another joker by the elements in Aso Rock was deliberate fuel scarcity. This was initially the dessert served before the naira confiscation main meal. However, kudos must go to the Group Managing Director of NNPC for his great sacrifice and efforts to ensure that the pain wasn't as horrific as planned. Kyari ensured that this fuel scarcity was fought, although it was hard for him but he was unrelenting. Unlike Emefiele, Kyari was never political, he resisted economic sabotage of the country.

On the other hand, Obi used the remnants of Professor's strategy during APC Primary, Religion! Knowing fully well that SE will vote for him based on sentiments, he realised that SE votes are not enough, therefore, he major on Religion. One, he thought one Christian should be able to defeat two major Muslims if his propaganda is well oiled! He confirmed this officially with his popular statement "Church Take Back Your Country". This was a message that easily elated many Pastorpreneurs in the country and Nigeria Suddenly became 'Jerusalem Above', so they all forgot that Jesus said 'My kingdom is not of this world', the black clothed angel has given them a better verse, newly created to fulfil a personal agenda. The choice of Tinubu's running mate further confirmed to these guys that indeed this is a 'Religious war'. Obi moved from church to church, spare part market to computer villages preaching the gospel of Religion in a political contest. Major well known Pulpit cabal confiscated the Word and rolled out false abysmal prophesies like spiritual manifesto, some were threatening their customers during their services. Front pages of major newspapers were filled with Prophecies of Obiism! Social media picture of a black angel descending from heaven was everywhere. He didn't stop at that, he recruited several IPOB Propagandists who are experts in chaotic write ups and computer manipulations to finish the remaining job. From doctored pictures to Bala-Blu, social media became the home of fake news and slandering!

However, Bola Tinubu was never perturbed. Having won a hard party Primary against all odds from army of educated betrayers, he was ready for more daring battles. Tinubu had over the years established a longstanding relationship with the North. This relationship is not an emergency pseudo relationship of a parasite, it was long, tested trusted. Tinubu chose his friends well. Again, Tinubu had prepared well before he struck, he never gambled. Since he became the Governor of Lagos State, he was conscious of his performance, he deliberately performed well for future reference. He also ensured that his legacies remain in Lagos permanently by ensuring positive political continuity, whereby, Lagos government has been run by members of Tinubu's cabinet since 2007 when he left office. This made it impossible for his adversaries to erase his masterplan!

Tinubu knows that Muslims are minority in the South, and he is a Muslim, becoming president for him may be too herculean but he didn't give up! Tinubu, after winning his Presidential Ticket, chose another Muslim from the North. This he did to avoid a 100% minority Ticket that may likely end up in disaster. Tinubu knew where his critics would come from before the campaign kicked off, however, he has been a victim of negative criticism since 2003 when he was the only opposition Governor in the South! He knows the battlefield very well but his eyes are forever on the ball. He has been Governor of Lagos, under him, there was no religious war in Lagos, no discrimination. In fact, mega Churches began in Lagos under his administration. He is never a fanatic. His wife is a Christian before they married and after they married, the wife became a pastor in a pentecostal church. The man who was using religion to campaign was also Anambra Governor, a state with one religion, yet, the Man still managed to cause war between the Catholic and Anglican. So, Tinubu knows the truthful and honest Christians will vote for him, besides, his jokers were his antecedents and relationships. He didn't look at tribe and religion. He went straight for politics of track records!

TINUBU didn't stop there, he took the full advantage of PDP's division, raked the chunk of G-5 supports, benefitted from Kwankwaso's stance against Atiku and also, inherited the profits from Obi's kindergarten politics that wasted SE votes. These are the reasons why Emefiele thunderstrike couldn't stand Tinubu's hurricane! The Cabal bowed and Pastorpreneurs defeated. Endsars faded and all evil alliances perished!

The JAGABAN should be studied by those who cherish success and are determined to fulfil destiny.

Good morning to all Progressives only.

PoliticsObi Vs Britain: Silence NOT Golden by ardeks(op): 8:08am On Apr 20, 2023
Why has Peter Obi not called a press conference to explain to Nigerians, particularly his teeming Obidients what led to his arrest and detention in London, and his subsequent deportation to Nigeria?

Why?

Or better still: Why has Obi not gone over to AriseTV to explain EXACTLY what the British said were the reasons for his arrest?

Why are Nigerian media houses having to write to the British government for details of why they "INTERDICTED" (Yes, I used the word) the former Anambra governor and Labor Party's presidential candidate?

Is it true, as it's being rumored in some places, that drugs and/or money laundering are parts of the investigation being carried out by the British?

Come to think of it: Shouldn't Obi, as a major presidential candidate, be traveling on at least an official passport, if not a diplomatic one? Could it be the reason he was deported instead of being arrested?

The only person who can give quick clarity now and douse all speculations and rumors is Obi himself.

Why is the usually talkative politician quiet now?

I am genuinely concerned. I don't want the British or any other country to think they can embarass our presidential candidates anyhow.

It could be me tomorrow.

Silence is NOT golden on this matter.

Today, many of Trump's headless mobs are gone. The lucky ones are imprisoned. Trump is walking freely and positions himself to run again.

OKOATA:
No mind them, some will say what if I win the 36 states and don't have 25% in Abj but it doesn't make sense bla bla bla. How can someone win 36 states and find it hard to win FCT? You will 36 states but can't win FCt, no be rigging be that? Some people no dey think.
Olodo ni e. The FCT is not the representation of Nigeria as a whole. It's just like every other state in Nigeria.

Let me educate you and your likes this morning
The constitution says a presidential candidate has to win the highest number of votes[b/] and also has to [b]win 25% of the votes in not less than 24 states of the federation and the FCT before he/she can be declared the winner. Right?

If you put the second conditional statement up there in another way it will be: the candidate has to win 25% of the votes in not less than 24 states of the federation including/excluding the FCT.

The above statement can only lead to another argument because it can be misinterpreted. How? It simply can mean 1) Election may not hold in the FCT because result there is inconsequential. 2) The people of the FCT have no say on who becomes the president of the country.

So the best that can be adopted of the conditional statements regarding the 25% of the FCT is the one that's being adopted presently by the constitution. If I have 25% in 23 states and the FCT, the two summed together is 24 states which gives me winning. In the other way, if I have my 25% in 24 states already and I don't have 25% in the FCT, I still win.

Capeesh?

Deprofessional:
For those asking what's so special about Abuja.

Abuja is special for 2 reasons:

1) It is the Federal Capital Territory, ie the seat of power

2) The president is it's governor.

Thus, the constitution is clear that you must have at least 25% of the votes in Abuja. This shows acceptance by the people you intend to govern.
Na like this you dumb reach? Even if it's so, can't you do some research before coming here to display your dumbness? Anyways, for your information the president is not seen as the governor of FCT as you claimed the political office holder seen as the governor is no other than the FCT MINISTER.

While the Southsouth helped Tinubu get the required statutory 25% of 2/3rd of states to win the presidency the Southeast vehemently and openly worked against him, and gave all their votes to Obi who promptly lost to Tinubu.

The jungle has now matured. It's time to reap where you sowed, and the Southeast, not retrospective over why they are out of the power equation again, are asking Tinubu to reward them with the Senate Presidency at the expense of the well derserving people of Southsouth for what they call "national unity" reasons.

Didn't they know that there was something called "national unity" before and during the elections? How can you work for Hero Beer and ask MTN to pay your salary? How can you refuse the offer of Unilever shares, go ahead to buy the shares of Next Supermarket, and after Next made a loss, you ask Unilever to deprive their shareholders and pay you their dividends - all because you suddenly remember national unity?

You cry marginalization when nobody ever deprived you of anything you earned in Nigeria, but want to be rewarded with fruits of the labour of the people of Southsouth as if they don't matter or are non-existent as far as you are concerned?

Look at the facts and tell me who deserves to produce the next Senate President between the Southeast and Southsouth:

1. Southeast gave Tinubu 0/5 of their states.
Southsouth gave him 5/6 of their states

2. Southeast gave Tinubu 6% of their votes.
Southsouth gave him 30% of their votes.

3. The Southeast senators that won their seats selfishly worked for themselves only in the election and neglected Tinubu. Thus they had huge numbers for themselves while Tinubu had almost nothing from their places.
The Southsouth senators that won their seats worked for both themselves and Tinubu. Thus they both had huge numbers from their places.

4. The entire Southeast zone gave Tinubu a paltry 127k votes.
Cross River state alone which is not even the highest in their zone, gave him 130K votes, and as a zone Southsouth gave him 800K votes.

5. The trend of APC's votes in the Southeast is falling in every election since 2015.
APC's votes in the Southsouth has been rising in every election since 2015.

6. Southeast has not forgiven APC for the loss of the presidency by their "son" Jonathan when they defeated their beloved PDP in 2015.
The Southsouth have moved on, forgotten about 2015, and are embracing APC. Their body language suggests that they don't want to be in opposition anymore.

7. According to the present trends, with the Senate Presidency, the Southeast will still NEVER vote for APC in the future. Their unwarranted hatred for the party is too deep.
According to the present trends, with the Senate President, the Southsouth have a chance of becoming another APC stronghold in the near future.

If politics remain a game of numbers, why should APC deprive the Southsouth zone which is becoming a fertile land for them to garner higher votes in the future, of the Senate Presidency in order to placate the Southeast which is determined to remain a political desert that irrespective of how much they are appeased, cannot yield the party any useful number of votes going forward?
PoliticsAnambra Is A Yorubaland by ardeks(op): 9:20pm On Mar 12, 2023
Anambra is a Yoruba land according to history. A Yoruba man who founded Anambra went to market but he got a call that some visitors were waiting for him, on his way home, he saw a shop where they were selling bras and decided to get for his wife which took him longer than necessary. When he got home and they asked him why he returned late, he said 'àn ńá brà' (meaning we were bargaining bra price) that's how they came up with the name, Anambra.

Shebi all of us are now historians, let's continue that way.

Sayyiduna Jaabir (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said:

Iblees places his throne upon the water (i.e. on the ocean). Thereafter, he deputes the various units of his armies (throughout the world to misguide people). The Shaitaan who has the closest position to Iblees is the one who causes the most mischief. One Shaitaan comes to Iblees and says, “I did this and this (e.g. I prompted someone to steal, etc.).” However, Iblees replies, “You did not do anything (remarkable).” Thereafter, another shaitaan comes to Iblees and says, “I continued to make effort on a certain man until I managed to separate him from his wife (i.e. causing marital problems).” Hearing this, Iblees (becomes overjoyed,) brings him close to him, hugs him and says, “What an excellent thing you have done.” (Saheeh Muslim #7106)

From all the different wrongs that a person can become involved in, one of the wrongs that is most pleasing to Iblees is that of marital discord. The reason is that this wrong is not an isolated one – rather it unleashes in its wake a whole host of other wrongs.

When marital discord commences, the spouses generally begin to engage in gheebah (backbiting) or even slander one another. They may even betray the secrets of the spouse that was an amaanah entrusted to them. They may speak to each other in a hurtful manner or conduct with bad character.

Furthermore, the families of the spouses inevitably become entangled in this mess, also falling prey to the gheebah, slander, fighting, etc. In the case where the couple have children, they suffer from witnessing their parents fight, bicker, quarrel and hurl insults at one another. In some cases, the children then begin to fight with each other as the parents vie for their support and force them to take sides.

In essence, the single spark of wrong that Shaitaan ignites between the husband and wife soon grows into a raging inferno that consumes entire families and communities as more and more people become involved. In other words, Iblees regards this to be an ‘investment’ with tremendous returns, and it is for this reason that he finds marital discord so delightful.

Hence, we should make every effort to maintain the understanding and harmony in our marriages. At times, this may even entail overlooking the faults of others and sacrificing our rights. If we do this, we will not only save our marriages – but will save many other people from wrong as well.

If we are unable to save the marriage, then our concern should be to conduct ourselves correctly and avoid falling into the sins mentioned above as well as other similar sins.

May Allah Ta‘ala save us all from marital discord and falling into wrongdoings. Amin.
IslamPoints To Assist A Declining Marriage by ardeks(op): 7:28am On Dec 16, 2022
The Hadith questions the manhood of a person who beats his wife up during the day and derives pleasure from her during the night. Good marriages require patience, kindness, humility, sacrifice, empathy, love, understanding, forgiveness, and hard work. Following these basic principles should help any marriage to improve. The essence of them all can be summed up in one sentence: Always treat your spouse the way you would like to be treated.

Amidst busy schedules and tasks on the parts of both women and men, Muslim husbands and wives tend to forget the real reasons behind marriage and likewise the rights of each other. Subsequently, they deprive themselves, their mates and their children of the happiness and tranquility that is the bedrock of a successful family. This unbalanced vision towards a couple’s ideal relationship is bad enough to plunge the family into a situation laden with troubles and worries.

▪️Negative Relationship between Husband & Wife

Some Muslim spouses relate to each other like adversaries rather than life time partners. The husband assumes the position of dictator, and whatever he says is not law. The wife on the other hand feels that she must squeeze everything she can out of her husband. Some wives do not express their gratitude to their husbands irrespective of how much the man may do for her. Instead they adopt an attitude of ‘never enough’ and make the husband feel like a failure if he does not provide every want and desire their extravagant lifestyles dictate. Some husbands speak very harshly to their wives, humiliate them, and even physically abuse them. Their wives have no voice or opinion in family matters. Moreover certain husbands become so cold and miserly that even the basic expenditure for the house is difficult to come by.

▪️Nikah – A divine institution

The Nikah bond has been divinely established for the welfare and upkeep of a healthy and progressive community. This divine prescription has been unjustly utilised as a vehicle to perpetrate oppression, deception, humiliation, and abuse. Allah Ta’ala describes marriage very differently in the Noble Quran: ‘ And from his signs are, He created for you wives from among yourselves, so that you may live in tranquillity with them, and instilled love and mercy between your (hearts) . . . “(30:21)

▪️Head of the Home

The position Islam has accorded to the man as the head of the home is a responsibility which will be accounted for, rather than a privilege which should be abused. We are taught to treat our wives well. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) has reported to have said: ‘ The person possessing the most perfect faith is one who has excellent behaviour, and the best among you are those who are best towards their wives” (Mishkat)

▪️Be Partners in Decision Making*

Follow the principle of ‘Shura,” (consultation) and make decisions as a family. Implementing this Sunnah within the home increases harmony and love between family members. It will also assist in enhancing trust and loyalty between spouses and the children.

▪️Abuse

Abstain totally from every form of emotional, mental, or physical abuse to your spouse.

▪️Watch Your Words

Be very careful what you say when you are upset. The wounds afflicted to the heart of a person by words will never heal and remain a lifelong memory. Sometimes you will say things that you would never say when you were not angry. Apply the directives found in the Hadith for suppression of anger.

▪️Communication is Important

Talk to each other, communicate, have a dialogue, but do it respectfully. Husbands and wives need to talk to each other. It is better to deal with problems early and honestly than to let them pile up until they explode.

Live Simply

Do not envy or cast your gaze towards those spouses who seem to be living a more luxurious life than your family. Be pleased with what you have. The grass will always look greener on the other side. The wealthiest person is the one who has attained contentment of heart. To develop the quality of contentment, look at those people who have less than you, not those who have more. Repeatedly thank Allah Ta’ala for the many blessings in your life.

Admit Your Mistakes

When you make a mistake, admit it. When your mate makes a mistake, excuse him or her easily. If possible, never sleep angry with each other.

Past Problems

Everything that has happened is history. Repent for the past and live for the future. Do not focus discussion on the past unless it is something that will make both of you laugh.

The Duaa for a blissful marriage: “Allahumma rabana hab lana min azwaajinaa wa zurriyyatina qurrata a-ayun waj-alna lil muttaqeena imaama (O Allah! grant us such wives and offspring who will be a source of coolness for our eyes, and make us leaders of the Allah-Fearing)
