Someone doing a single menial job in the United States working a standard 40 hrs a week at $10 per hour is expected to bring in $1,600 before tax. Anyone earning $3,000 before tax is doing to three jobs. Now a bricklayer or service doing a menial job in Nigeria brings in 6,000 naira daily. Let's say he works for 20 days of the month, he is expected to bring in a total of 120,000 naira. Even if you are married you should be able to save 50,000 monthly. I hardly feel sorry for those begging for 50,000 salary when they can learn a skills and make triple that amount monthly. Do you know how much normal tailors bring home daily? My cousin is one and sew up to 5 clothes daily. Do the math yourself. The myth that Nigerians is broke is one big fat line, that's why you always see long queues at ATM all the time. Most Nigerian workers have more than 200,000 in savings and that's more than the $500 65% of Americans can't come up with.
lol your analysis is very wrong not all bricklayers get 6k per day depending on the state besides it is not everyday they work some may not even work for a week if there is no customer

which yeye skill/trade you dey yarn, The most skill and trade in Nigeria is Tailoring, bricklayer, mechanic, re wire, barbing, after few month they will celebrate their freedom, having learnt nothing then they open one small shop to ply their trade.

At 18 u are expected to leave your parents house and go hustle on your own, in Nigeria reverse is the case, person go still dey with hin parent they chop food " mama thank You" at 35 years..

for your information i bought a house in VGC and majority of my neighbors are people who live abroad mostly people living in america so which one u dey shout VGC like say na heaven, guy park well no let me change am for you e be like say ur brain wet..

I see your braveness. If you ever get an approved American visa, you should please tear it.. Now,
My brother, cousins and i are making it quite well in corporate America and not a single one of us will contemplate spending one night in Nigeria if it can be helped. No system is perfect, but you cannot convince me that Nigeria holds any value to anyone who appreciates real living (as against merely existing).

You comparing an American menial worker and a Nigerian bank manager is bullshit. Why don't you do it this way;
* An American menial worker versus a Nigerian menial worker.
* A Doctor or Nurse in America with those in Nigeria.
* An American taxi driver to that of a Nigerian grin list so endless.
We pay tax, oh yes and we fucking love it. For about a decade, light went off like once, and that was during a hurricane in my city before which I already got an e-mail informing me on that. I have peace, security, justice, know i can drive at night, alone, on impulse, and have zero fear of armed robbers or area boys or bad roads. I go back to my abode, knowing i won't have to struggle to find kerosine to cook, that i won't need candles as my source of light, that i will turn on the tap and water will flow and that my biggest problem would be what to cook rather than if i will get to eat or not. Oh please fvck it, you can't compare tongue

The average 18-year old American kid can take a backpack, pick a ticket to anywhere in Europe and fly out... with nothing but a few dollars in their pocket. In Nigeria, successful middle class adults have to provide tax forms, letters from employer, return tickets home, bank account information, invitation letters, cram visa interview questions and answer + 7 day fasting and prayer, just to spend a few days in South Africa of all places. My brother... America isn't perfect, but i'm sure glad i live here and not in Lagos.
Now you can continue Argueing with your village people tongue
hahahahaha I am just laughing out loud here guy u Don finished dis ppl

Show me where i called dangote or otedola on this thread? Young man, in every single street in Nigeria we have millionaires. People with countless houses and business. Every single street in lagos, ph, delta, kogi, benin, anambra etc. I am not even talking about places like GRA in those states. Just normal places, you will see people with duplexes worth over 35 million upward. Unless you are not a Nigerian
and do you know what this few people do for a living?or you think all there business are legit?

Nonsense. Its dis same crappy mentality that make u pple feel entitled to evrything in life.

Life is not meant to be difficult for u to prove your sucess. Education doesnt have to be hard and suffocating. I'm sure d worst uni in uk is way better than your stale OAU u keep shouting.

OAU old glory. The world is your competition. Not your low standard school. Stop being myopic.
God bless you for this comment even the best university in Nigerian which is university of Ibadan don't brag like how this OAU ppl shout on nairaland....

What's the ranking of that school in the UK? huh

With the right sponsorship and a little bit of luck, some 2:1 students from any of Nigeria's top 10 universities can pull that stunt in any backwater UK university undecided

And please drop all that stuff about her being best in WAEC... she is a brilliant girl no doubt... But how are we sure her ''miracle center" school had nothing to do with manipulating her results?

Just like her, I got admitted to study law as well in OAU.... And I graduated from the school as well.. . and having a CGPA of 4.53 in 1st year wasn't all that hard for students in the faculty because the courses taken then, apart from SSC102, were all out-of-faculty and pretty basic... La Cram La Pour sturvs... At the end of my 1st year in the faculty of law in OAU, my cgpa was 4.36...and I wasnt even among the top 30 in my class sad.....

Shitt started getting real in 200 level when we started taking majorly law courses... none of us made it out of the faculty with a 1st class..... And some of my class padis who had exceptionally high scores in JAMB and Post-Ume didn't exactly blaze any trails either...

Point is.. .. She is a brilliant girl who had the chance and resources to study abroad in some kinda lowball university.... If she had achieved this feat in one of the top 10 universities in the UK, then I will truly applaud her.. What she has achieved doesn't make her better than her mates who graduated from OAU with a 2:1... Some of them may have done same if they had the opportunity ...Alumni of OAU like myself will understand what I am saying smiley
shut up,you are not brilliant than this girl,no matter what you can't have that excellent result through miracle center.show us your O level result...ode
CareerRe: MSc In UK Versus N183k Job Offer: Advice Please by arena07: 10:41am On Sep 08, 2017
No
DanXplore:
Please, i could use some career advice from great nairalanders. Please tag monikers that you think would be of great help, as i am at a crucial point in my career.

I am a graduate of chemcal engineering but for 2years now, have not gotten any engineering related job. The only job i got was at KPMG (audit), which i resigned after 3 months due to some personal reasons. I am currently an Area Sales Rep with a poultry feed production company that pays 183k per month (net take home after tax and other necessary deductions), though i could use up to 20 to 25k to fuel my car monthly.
Now, i just got a PTDF scholarship offer to study Advanced process integration and design in UK but not really sure if it is worth ditching my current job for it.

I am not very confident about securing a job once i finish msc because only a handful of opportunities come for chemical engineers. more also,UK rarely retains Nigerians.

Please what are your advices, especially from those who have done Msc in Uk.

I need your advices, i dont want to make a costly mistake.
does the scholarship involve monthly stipend and free accommodation? Will they allow you to work at least 4hours per day? If so try and save up during the duration of your program and after the completion of your studies usain bolt to Canada or Australia from Uk

But the sorry aspect of this is that many unemployed graduates refused to apply during first phase while employed dudes applied.
They are just applying now that they realised that the scheme is real. We take things for granted in this country a lot. Why beefing smart dudes who were under employed and just decided to argument their income? Did they responsible for your failure to apply when it was easier to get on the payroll?
don't mind those shouting fish them out,if they have the opportunity there own will be worst.. All I see here is jealousy

I know that you will mention NUC here as if what they are ranking is of the best. What they need to based their ranking is the products coming out of these tertiary institutions and not money been paid to them. Unilorin that was the best university thrice always record high rate of jamb applicant every year. For good ten years now they have been recording that which shows high level of impact the lecturers are impacting the students. Not to talk of UI etc.
So the ranking is sham?what about world ranking?

yes everyone is entitled to obtain their masters or PH.D to obtain their degrees in foreign universities. It is matter of choice likewise there are students too that will obtain their degrees from undergraduate level to PH.D level here. It is matter of choice. Yes the crop of graduates here didn't show they have things upstair to show the populace. In as much your school employed public university lecturers you have to give the school they came from respect cos they gave you the grades you want.
point of correction they gave them grades they merits besides u have not answered why the same private universities graduates performed excellently well abroad..pls check the latest university rating by NUC and the latest most sought after graduates in Nigerian by employers

why should I trust you when I know you don't know what u should know.

Uniben is far better than convenant university and such anomaly in first class will never take place there, just like it wouldn't in OAU, UI , ABU and other supposedly top higher citadel of knowledge in the country....

First class isn't only overrated, it's becoming stale, boring and at times useless.
so because they merit the first class the school shouldn't have given it to them?and that makes uniben better than CU?it means majority of private universities graduates that travelled for masters program abroad who finished with good grades don't merit it and uniben is far better than schools in UK,USA,Germany.etc besides have you checked the latest university ranking by NUC?

you can't be defending your school and not saying the truth. Besides this schools are christian schools. As it stand it is money money. Once you have your money you are good to go. Grades aren't difficult to get. Why can't you ask your lecturers which school they came from.
the same graduates are the ones that full foreign countries for their master's program and they performed excellently well are you saying they got the grades through money from foreign countries?until you realised that those public universities lecturers are wicked to students in public higher institutions simply because nobody can question their misconducts
