TravelRe: Before You Move To Canada by arena07: 6:25pm On Jul 26, 2018

Don't come to Canada with super high expectations or you will be disappointed quickly. If you have a great job with good benefits where you are, pls. stay there. A lot of high skilled immigrants I've met as an employment counsellor who helps to find jobs in Canada are demoralized as they can not find equal level jobs they left back home. Know this, your skills are not considered comparable. Period. You will start from the BOTTOM! Discrimination exist covertly. Your accent, communication skills, your ability to convey knowledge/ experience in the Canadian context might differ from what You are accustomed to. You will have to be on top of your game. It might be about who you Know. Networking is sometimes key. Know your job description well. Interviews are not about knowing your skills. It's also about that and more. Chance are you don't don't have appropriate answers. What they need, want to hear. Chances are you did not know what they want because you did not read, research and learn about the company and industry and job duties, you did not research the Canadian context of the job. It's cumbersome if not prepared. Another idea per my experience, remove countries you've gained experience or worked in from resume to gain attention clear and void of what's deemed foreign experience, not canadian experience. I came here in 2007. I speak well. Even with a good amount of good American accent in Canada, unless nervous then it shows. I know my shit! In fact my name could never tell that I am black, African. I get the interviews but once they are my black face, all else changed. So beware folks! Unless your life is threatened in your country. If you have respect in your profession and a good job where you are, stay put. North America, Canada is no joke for those educated people, secure in your knowledge, you will have to start from the begining even with Phds. Medical doctors. Master's from abroad… think carefully before you come! Consult an employment counsellor and even they can not predict your future. I have been there. Just saying!
I need urgent reply what advise can you give someone that earn 50k in naija with no future prospect with the job and he has the opportunity to migrate to Canada through skilled program shd he stay back in Nigeria and move over to canada?

There are a lot of opportunities in Nigeria that cannot be seen with a shallow mindset. There are so many things you can do in Nigeria. You only need to be dogged and creative to make money in Nigeria. I won't advise the op not to travel to Canada, but he should consider his age. Canada is good for immigrants who are below 25 years old. If you are 30 years and above, your body will soon wear itself out with the survival jobs you are most likely going to get ( except you are lucky and favoured to get a Professional job 5 months after landing in Canada ).

Op, think deeply smiley smiley smiley smiley and you will find solid businesses you can do in Nigeria. Stay Blessed.
from your point of view it is not advisable for anyone above 30 to travel out of country even if the opportunity arise?

It also increases sometimes. The sure thing is your capital won't be hurt whatever happens since it is invest in FG bonds and etc. ARM also does it.

Imagine you invest 500k. Do the maths
13.5% per month or per year?

TravelRe: Preparing For TOEFL, Already Taken TOEFL Come In Let's Discuss. by arena07: 5:36pm On May 01, 2018
hilaryxoxo:
I want to start by saying that the TOEFL is a very very very easy exam - especially for native English speakers. The average person here is done with secondary school, where we studied English as a subject for 6 years. We've spoken English for over 20 years (assuming no one here is below 20 and has been speaking English since birth).

So what is difficult in an exam that just wants to test our ability to use English? - The reason people fail or do below their expectations is: (1) Inadequate preparation (2) Inadequate practice

I have written TOEFL twice. I scored 100 the first time (R24 L25 S24 W27) with less than 1 week of preparation because of my very busy schedule at work. In fact, most of my preparation was done the night before my exam (you better don't try this), where I practiced only reading with the TOEFL software on ETS' website. I was very disappointed with my score as it didn't even meet the cut-off for the school I was applying to. I registered to take the exam for the second time and scored a 101 (R26 L25 S24 W26).

Coming from someone that has written the exam twice, I can tell you that if you practice very well - with the right materials, you'd score well. My score didn't improve because my preparation was very very terrible.

Based on my experience, I'd make recommendations based the little things I did that worked for me and also based on the things I wish I did that I didn't do.

1. Notefull videos: I watched all the free videos on their website here https://www.notefull.com/content.php?pgID=575 all you need to do is to complete all the video lessons there. It is very very short. you can actually finish it in 4 hours. just take note of all the tips and tricks and templates!!!!!!!!!!

2. After completing all the notefull videos, go straight to practicing. This was where I personally missed it. I did not practice at all - apart from the day before the exam, where I started noticing most of my mistakes and weaknesses. PRACTICE LIKE HELL! The software I used to practice was the Official Guide (Interactive Software) which you can find here http://www.gregmattoeflnigeria.com/resources/TOEFL_PC.exe and the TOEFL sampler which you can find here http://www.gregmattoeflnigeria.com/resources/TOEFL_Sampler.exe

3. Once you're done exhausting all those practice materials, you are good to go - trust me. MAKE SURE YOU PRACTICE SPEAKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND DONT FORGET THE SPEAKING TEMPLATES THAT YOU'D LEARN FROM NOTEFULL!

If you still have more time and you want to practice more, you can use this free TOEFL online course that you can find here https://www.edx.org/course/toeflr-test-preparation-insiders-guide-etsx-toeflx-4 (mind you, this course was put together by ETS - the makers of the TOEFL exam). You can also practice with some of these other Free Test Preparation Resources on the ETS website that you can find here https://www.ets.org/toefl/ibt/prepare and you can also use Barron (I have heard good things about it)

I will leave with this final remark. "all know the way but few actually walk it". I wish everyone the best and I am open to questions.

I also have a ton of materials that I downloaded a while ago and have never opened if anyone sees anything specific they want, they can send me a PM or drop their emails asking for what they want in particular. I would make dropbox link to these materials soon.
Thanks for this post ,these are the materials i need
1)Kaplan TOEFL bit 2007-2008 edition
2)Baron's how to prepare for the TOEFL bit 12th edition
3)Notefull
4)Learning express-TOEFL exam essentials
5)Answers to all TOEFL essay questions
6)TOEFL-150 TOEFL tests

This whole thing is getting scarier than i tot.i have a female friend.she manages a hotel.ee speak from time to time.she told me that infact marriage is nt too important to her anymore.and i ask her why.she said.hmmmm infact the people dat patronises their hotel more re married people.old man versus young girl nd old old woman vs young boy.the sanctity of marriage have been destroyed.people nw see marriage as a contract nt a binding covenant.she said even young couples re nt spared.i was in naija last year.my ex got to knw abt it.she is married with two kids.pregnant with another one.sshe demanded to come nd stay with me in d hotel nd have fun.she regretted marrying his man.all that crap.Jesus wept!!!!.am supposed to come bck july nd atleast try nd settle down but with d story flying up nd downbon disforum nd what i hear.mehn its disheartening nd scary.d other news was saying d husband came bck to find out that his son he loves so much is nt actually his son.nd he suspected dat because people eas telling him hw d wife jumps from one man to another.i wonder why i would be out here suffering under dis harsh cold weather which is on freezing level jst to make ends meat.cold can even make u cry here.instead of my wife to be supportive.she will be hopping from one bed to another.hmmmmmm.that have been my fear.God should help us oooo
ooh u are very right. So u dey SK?travelling to the country very soon for my masters program my fear is maybe I should get my girl pregnant before leaving or I should just travel maybe I can get better lady in SK to settle down with.

you are a disgrace to public universities grads do you expect those ppl you mentioned above to finished from private universities when it is obvious private universities were not existing back then?

95% of Covenant University graduates I know all had their masters degree from UNILAG or UI.

Whereas most UNILAG graduates I know had theirs from Schools abroad in US and Canada. Some direct PhD programmes.

Why can't they stay in their private schools to get MSc and PhD
keep quiet majority of private universities graduates dominates foreign universities for their post graduates especially US,Canada and UK compare to public universities grads

Frog! And do not forget I will a good job real soon
Now brace up and get off your low self esteem
look at the gibberish you just spewed?it exposed your level of comprehension who asked you all this self appraisal? And do you think private grads care about all this epistle you just wrote?read your first comments on this thread and tell me if it doesn't reeks of hate and jealous...

I attended a federal uni and I must say its the best to me.. Its challenging quite alright but it has really shaped me and made me discover who I am.. If I had gone to a private school I would have been naive. In federal uni you struggle to pass..that's why most times federal uni graduates are very smart and have confidence.. Pls when categorizing this exclude state uni cause its trash.. Private uni too has its own advantages . good leaning environment ,sound lecture rooms etc..the truth about life is ,life isn't all about academics.. Locking on up in a place when he comes to the real world he finds it hard to survive .. Private schools are good but I think public is better
public universities is better to you not to others as a graduate of futa if I had the opportunity I would have finished from private university...
