Nigerian Journalist and a close associate of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, Ahmad Salkida has faulted the viral claims that one of the sect members killed in a recent battle between the sect and the Nigerian Army was the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau. Salkida, on his twitter handle tweeted that the photo being circulated was in no way Shekau, as he had it on good authority that the sect leader was well and alive. He tweeted thus: ‘’ Mark my words; I have it on good authority that Shekau is well and alive. The picture going round is NOT the person who torments us with this group. ‘’ With this latest tweet from Salkida who is believed to have good relationship with Shekau, the claims by both Nigeria and Cameroonian Army have clearly been put to doubt. DailyPost recalls that Cameroonian Army had on Sunday released some photos of the man it purportedly killed during a cross boarder attack, claiming victory over the sect. Relatively, Nigerian Army had said it would carry out a DNA test to determine whether the sect leader purportedly killed by its men was the real Abubakar Shekau, and as well claiming a landslide victory over sect. Ahmed Salkida’s position has further complicated the controversy surrounding the killing of the sect leader as Nigeria and Cameroon authority have continued to disagree over who killed Shekau. Ahmad Salkida, a Nigerian journalist who now resides in Dubai had previously worked for Daily Trust and Premium Times and reported extensively on Boko Haram. He fled Nigeria to Dubai 2 years ago after being fingered as Boko Haram sympathizer. He said he fled after ‘his life and that of his family became endangered ’ Salkida is the only Nigerian journalist/civilian that allegedly has access to Boko Haram. In the heat of the abducted Chibok girls, Nigerian government flew Ahmad Salkida back to Nigeria to negotiate with Boko Haram on their behalf. However, the negotiation failed to yield any fruitful result as the girls are still being held hostage. The claim by the both Cameroon and Nigerian Army has further endangered the lives of the abducted Chibok girls, as many fear the sect members may harm the girls in retaliation. There was confusion around the Rivers State High Court premises as scores of policemen escorted the most senior judge of the court, Justice Daisy Okocha, into the premises. The State High Court, which has been under lock and key since June 10, 2014, due to the strike embarked upon by judiciary workers in the state, was forcefully opened by security operatives. As at 10am on Tuesday when our correspondent visited the Bank Road location of the State High Court, over 50 armed policemen blocked the entrance of the two gates leading to the court premises with over 16 Hilux vans. Journalists, who tried to move close to the gates were told by security agent manning the place to step backwards. The meeting of the state High Court judges led by Justice Okocha was ongoing as at the time of sending this report. Source: http://www.osundefender.org/?p=188065 |

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has predicted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the presidential election in 2015. Addressing APC local government party chairmen from the 36 states, who gathered in Owerri to celebrate his 52nd birthday, Okorocha stressed the need for APC members to be aggressive in order to flush out the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its members from power, adding that PDP’s time in the history of politics in the country was over. His words: “In 2015, APC will be in Aso Rock, we must be aggressive to drag PDP and its members out of Nigeria.” Owelle Okorocha assured them that he had the capacity to stir the ship of the country and made it clear that PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan could not defeat him in the forthcoming general elections. Okorocha, who said he would not run unless the masses ask him to run, regretted that his mission in the country had not been actualised due to the activities of the elite who denied him several opportunities to serve the people. He told his guests that he had fought kidnapping to zero point in Imo State and assured that if given the opportunity to rule the country, he would end the activities of Boko Haram through decentralisation of power to the grassroots. The governor stated that what inspired him to join politics was to render humanitarian services to the less privileged in the society, including the introduction of free education from primary to tertiary level in the state. This post is about helping you let go of complaints about your partner/lover. So let it all out! But remember to keep these ideas private from your mate, because ultimately, the biggest thing you can do to impact your relationship/marriage is worry more about your issues than your spouse’s issues. As for me, I would help her find something she is really passionate about. She bounces from one thing to the next not ever refining any skill set. It would be so useful because when a person has passion they can use it in other aspects of life. |

The order banning the setting up of Police roadblocks nationwide is still strictly in force, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has said. In a statement Sunday, Force Spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the police boss has sent a directive to all commands and formations of the Force nationwide asking them to immediately dismantle “all semblances of Police roadblocks and permanent checkpoints reportedly re-emerging in some parts of the country, especially in the South-East, South-South and South-West geo-political zones of Nigeria”. - See more at: Mr. Ojukwu further quoted Mr. Abba as describing the reemergence of roadblocks as a serious violation of subsisting order on the matter and threatened severe sanctions on any police commands, formations and personnel who violate the order. While charging the state Commissioners of Police and Heads of Formations to ensure total compliance with the order, the IGP further ordered extensive visibility patrol and effective surveillance on Nigerian roads. Meanwhile, as Nigeria joins the rest of the world in marking World Peace Day on September 21, 2014, the Nigeria Police Force has restated its resolve to work assiduously for the enthronement of genuine peace in the nation. “As peace officers and frontliners in the drive for a peaceful world, the Nigeria Police understands the dislocation and trauma that happen to families, homes, cities and businesses in the event of disturbances,” the Force said in a statement. The statement added, “In line with the above, the Nigeria Police will train more officers on conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation. Our Family Units and Juvenile Welfare Centres will be reinvigorated to cater for the needs of hurting family members, widows, orphans, displaced persons and the vulnerable. The Police will pay more diligent attention to early warning signs and improve response time to crises and distress calls. “The Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Suleiman Abba urges all citizens to embrace peace at all times, and to assist law enforcement agents in the preservation and maintenance of peace nationwide.” - Source: https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/168423-police-ig-suleiman-abba-orders-dismantling-of-all-police-roadblocks-nationwide.html#sthash.OSU8uDlK.dpuf |
Choosing whether to be your child's full-time caregiver can be a complicated emotional. If your partner could make more money, would you stay home with the kids? |
Seriously, there are two reasons, closely related 1) Religion (and probably sex) are the closest and most personal things a person can think about. Religion can be the core of a person; it encompasses their set of values and beliefs. An attack on a religious thought is seen as an attack on that person, and that in turn is seen as something to be defended - to the death, if need be. You attack a religion, you are attacking the core of a person's self, and that causes controversy. 2) Religion is closely related to power - in many religions, the most religious have the most power. Power corrupts - no question about it. So the powerful look for ways to assert their power, because power that is not used is not power at all. So religious leaders, convinced of the rightness of their beliefs, use their power to force religion on others. (see: Crusades, any number of ethnic and other skirmishes, etc.) Discussing it one-on-one at work, or at a party, is just a microcosm of the points above. If you questions your friend's religion, you are threatening his core identity. People have killed, shunned, ostracized, and sacrificed themselves for it. Why? |
Does your partner continuously degrade or belittle you? If you think that just because you aren't being physically abused nothing is wrong, think again. Emotional abuse can have devastating consequences on both physical and mental health. While emotional or psychological abuse may be difficult to pinpoint, examples abound. Here are some characteristics: * Using economic power to control you * Threatening to leave * Making you afraid by using looks, gestures or actions * Smashing things * Controlling you through minimizing, denying and blaming * Making light of the abuse and not taking your concerns about it seriously * Continually criticizing you, calling you names, shouting at you * Emotionally degrading you in private, but acting charming in public * Humiliating you in private or public * Withholding approval, appreciation or affection as punishment Here comes the question, Why Do People Stay in Abusive Relationships? |
